Jasmine's POV
Where was my husband to be?
I was in my pure, beautiful wedding dress and felt ashamed in front of the priest's questioning eyes.
Everyone was waiting for Jake to arrive with the rings he had claimed he wanted to pick up, but he never showed up, and the fear that he wasn't going to was beginning to taunt me.
"Ava, is there something I should know? The guests are beginning to get tired," the minister asked discreetly. No one needed to tell me; it had been over four hours. It was funny, especially since my stepmom seemed so calm, and surprisingly, Gwen, my step-sister, was absent.
That's when Sarah gasped and brought my phone.
"Is that Jake?"
Looking at her eyes, my heart fell before I took steps backward. "What is it saying, Sarah?" I heard my stepmom yell, and the others around her seemed to concur.
"Jake won't be coming here," she shakily said, gasps filling the hall; while still shaking, I snatched the phone from her hand and called him.
"Jasmine baby... Please don't tell me you are still there?" Jake asked as if he didn't have our wedding to be present before anything with a familiar voice in the background.
"Wait, you thought I was going to get married to FAT PIG like you?" he burst into laughter; my hands trembled as I clutched the phone, and slowly, the tears dropped down my eyes. "Jake? Are you okay?"
"What is going on?" I whispered in confusion while holding back my sobs.
"You're a fool for thinking I'd ever marry you," his voice sneered on the other end.
"You're nothing but a pathetic, clingy, desperate—"
"Jake, please, not today or now? I would do anything," I pleaded, falling to my knees.
"No, look at yourself in the nearest mirror. The dress you are wearing now doesn't even fit, and you want to compress me like you have compressed your belly rolls… not happening!"
"It's over. I'm done with you, and don't even bother trying to reach me."
The line went dead, leaving me stunned and humiliated.
Upon looking up, I could see everyone's pitiful stare, making me realize they had heard my call.
As Jake's words rang in, the room began to spin as I realized the truth: she'd been stood up, rejected, and betrayed. It was funny how it had been a day after I signed everything for him.
The guests' murmurs grew louder, their faces filled with pity and curiosity.
He had no right to do that to me!
With tears rolling down my eyes, I stood and heard a tear. Without caring which part of the gown had torn, I fled the altar, Sarah calling after me.
"Take me to Jake's place," I ordered my driver. Jake couldn't do this to me—at least not after making me wait five years of my life, then pampering me with love talks and singing about how he didn't care about my weight.
I looked like a mess. I could feel my mascara and mascara become smoggy because of how messy I was crying, but I didn't care!
Was this his surprise?
Jake was a monster to have done this to me!
It's incredible that after signing over my mom's company to him yesterday, I paid for the home we were to live in with him as the sole signatory and then borrowed money for the car he bought.
I had reduced myself to nothing for him. What did he do?
Dump me on our wedding day!
As I walked into the house we were both supposed to enter today, the dirt word he had called me over the phone kept ringing. Something was wrong….
Jake had never been like that, and I am confident he loved me. I dragged my dirty gown inside as so many good memories caused more tears.
There was no way; he was in his right state of mind.
I mean, he loved me. A loud giggle caused me to pause. I was sure that that voice sounded so family, and I prayed it wasn't what my heart was already screaming at me.
My heart began thumping so loud I feared he heard.
"She would be so broken, and you can't imagine how much I would kill to see her break," Jim mocked as I approached the door.
"How she could think she would end up with me…We are opposites, and to think that without me asking, she had handed me everything I wanted on a fucking platter of GOLD!"
"You did good, baby; I never knew she was so ignorant… losing her mom's property because you merely said you loved her?" a very familiar voice moved, and I almost lost my flooring as my heart missed a beat.
What was this I was hearing?
"My ignorant and, I have to say, foolish step-sister would probably be…"
"Gwen?!"
"Jake?! What the fuck is going on?"
As soon as their eyes met mine, they burst into laughter, and I felt my whole world crumble around me as their cruel laughter echoed in my ears. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. The insults cut deep, each word a razor-sharp blade slicing through my heart.
"Why?" I begged, my voice shaking with tears. "Why are you doing this to me?"
Jake sneered, his eyes glinting with hate—an emotion he had never shown me. "You're just so gullible, Yas. You thought I loved you? Ha! You were just a means to an end—a way to get your money and your house."
Gwen snickered, her voice dripping with venom. "And you're so fat and ugly, no one else would ever want you, not even your mother did." My heart shattered into a million pieces, and I felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair. How could they be so cruel?
Jake's voice cut through my thoughts, his words like a death sentence. "Pack your things, Jasmine. You're no longer welcome in this house. You signed everything over to me, remember? You're nothing now."
My eyes widened in horror. I had trusted and loved Jake, and he was betraying me in the worst possible way.
"I will help her to the door, baby; I already packed up her clothes and disposed of the rest that looked like rags." Jake laughed and spanked her, causing her to giggle almost as though I wasn't there.
As she walked past me, she leaned in and whispered, "You deserve this bitch!"
The reality hit me as I rushed to him before falling down unceremoniously, "I can't do without you; I would die... please don't do this to me!" I sobbed harder, but his following words had me stunned, "Then DIE bitch!"
I let her drag me down the stairs and push me out of the gate of MY HOUSE!
Outside, the rain poured, mirroring the storm inside my heart. I stood at the side of the road with my thumb raised in a desperate escape bid as the rain soaked through my gown, which I was supposed to wed in.
Tears mingled with raindrops on my face as I cried out my pain and betrayal. The universe seemed to be conspiring against her, mocking me with cruelty.
Finally, a car stopped, and I stumbled in, but as I arrived at my parents' home, I was met with a slammed door and a hail of insults.
"You won't be entering this house, Jasmine," my stepmom yelled while standing at the door.
"Please... Today..."
"It has been nothing but an embarrassment, and it is all because you are so stubborn... Your dad asked you to make him the signatory, but you... you had to make us go through Jake."
"You're a disappointment!" The tears flowed down as I didn't dare raise my head; all I could hear were their words, each forming a heap.
"You're a failure, Jasmine!" my father's voice boomed, and without saying anything, he left me still standing under the rain.
My stepmom's voice said, "You're just like your mom, always making poor choices!"
"Gwen had always been his; you were just too blind. In case they did tell you, she is pregnant! So you should go far away to where you blog, the gutters, or better still, die! The world would be a better place."
My fragile heart, already shattered by Jake's betrayal, was further crushed by my parent's rejection. The people who should have loved and supported her unconditionally instead chose to inflict more pain.
With their thoughts ringing repeatedly, I found myself standing at the edge of the bridge. The river below seemed to call to me.
A disappointment
Gwen pregnancy!
Fat Pig!
Pathetic! Clingy!
Those words made jumping seem much more effortless. I did nothing to deserve this level of embarrassment and betrayal.
DIE BITCH!!. These words kept chanting in my head.
Without hesitation, I jumped, the onlookers' screams and shouts fading into the distance as I plummeted towards the water. The impact was swift, the river's icy embrace enveloping me.
I felt a sense of peace as the water closed over my head.
"Jasmine..." I heard someone call, but it was too late; I chose this darkness.
Jasmine's POVI was dead, at least to everyone in this hall.Just roughly three years ago, I had been dumped at this alter, but here he was, marrying my sister after taking everything away from me.With a smirk on my face, I walked in just as the priest had said, "If anyone present knows of any reason why this couple should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.""Who is that?""I can't remember seeing Gwen's friends looking this hot. The slit I had asked the designer to add was doing a perfect job of showing enough skin.My eyes met Jake, and I flashed a smile at him. "Who is she?" I could still hear, and seeing an audience, I decided to enjoy the attention, making sure my heels clicked well against the floor."Is she here to stop the wedding?" Someone whispered, causing my grin to widen. It was funny how these people cared more about nobody walking to her seat than about the wedding that was taking place."Could she be…" I blocked out those whispers as my eyes met a
Jasmine's POVWe arrived at the reception, where I overheard one of the gossip ladies whisper that it would go on until midnight. It was going well until Mr. Blackwood started to suspect me. He asked me questions I didn't want to answer without Jake or Gwen nearby. His sudden interest made me feel uncertain about my plan.He was hanging around me to keep me at arm's length. At first, I was sure it wouldn't be so hard to lure him, but judging by how he acted, I was beginning to doubt him."You didn't tell me how you got an invite?" he asked, pulling me out of my trance as I watched Jake and Gwen dance while praying one of them fall. His question was unexpected, and it took me off script. There was no way I was going to tell him Gwen had sent an invite to my burial ground, where she had mocked me for being six feet under while she was using Jake to climb the ladder and how much she was using out of my company's stock or a wedding that she had stolen... at least not now."Tell me why yo
Jasmine's POV “Jas…” his soft call pulled me back to the present.I don’t know how much I cried, but I did so in his arms; he didn’t judge me, nor did he say anything… he just held me in his arms and let me.“Do you want to get out of here or perhaps go in?” He asked, and I sniffed before answering, “Home?”“I was hoping you wouldn’t say home; you can’t let their words get to you… you are beautiful, and I don’t know how my stupid son could let go of you so easily, but leaving proves them right”.“What are you saying?”“You seemed to have grown a nerve, but it isn’t enough. You are my date tonight, so we’d go in, and you’d do your best to stay away from your sister,” he whispered.“Why?” I asked him as he wiped away the tears from my face with his face towel.“Why what, kitten?”“Your son…he did this, but you are helping me? You should be taking his side.” I asked, confused. Everything was going according to plan.Ignoring my question, he pulled me closer to him before whispering, “L
Jasmine's POV. "Have you lost your mind?" Mr. Blackwood stared at me with bulging eyes flickering with various emotions that made me realize that he was going through a lot of internal turmoil–the most prominent: shock! He probably hadn't heard something like this in his life. I was glad to see him in such a confused state. "It's a pleasure to see you stunned, Mr. Blackwood." He pinched the bridge of his nose as he tried to gain momentum. "Let's just say that this is remotely true, why the hell will you proposition me?" I smacked my lips cheekily, winking at him afterward. Men were often not accustomed to the fact that ladies were now taking charge of certain situations. "How is that a problem, darling?" He stared at me in shock and I couldn't help but burst into laughter. Pointing at his face with one finger, I smacked my second hand with the other. "My goodness, you make me laugh! You should see your face!" I laughed. He crossed his arms over each other while sho
Jasmine's POV.From the way his brows creased in confusion, I knew that I had an opening. It was now up to me to seize it with both hands or just keep staring at him without answering any questions. "What the hell do you mean by that?" "Exactly what I said, baby..." I drawled, smirking lightly. A flicker of emotions ran through his face causing me to chuckle softly. "That's the most ridiculous thing that I've ever heard. I know that you're cross with Jake which is understandable but spinning lies on him, is too low for even you don't you think?" He accused me. I sighed and rolled my eyes in frustration at the way he was handling things. I was sure that he was feeling a certain way but that didn't mean that I was lying. "You know what? Why don't you just call him and ask if I'm telling the truth or not before writing me off completely. We've come a long way." I drawled again, knowing that it would piss him off. It went accordingly. His eyes narrowed angrily at me and I chuckled.
Jasmine's POV. The sound of people talking animatedly woke me up and I groaned as I tried to understand what the hell was happening. I looked at the television and saw a few reporters arguing over the GDP and whatnot.I hissed, reached for my phone and unlocked it with my fingerprints. It was still a few minutes shy of noon. I had slept for so long. A good three hours. I forced myself to go into the bathroom and wash myself clean of the previous escapades. Who would have thought that I would proposition a man? Not just any man, my father in-law! Now that I thought about it, it sounded so weird to me and I was a bit worried for what this could mean. It wouldn't be an easy task convincing him to agree to my terms and conditions, seeing that he was probably straight-laced and would see this as a mess. I just wanted to get back at Jake but I wanted it to be in a way that he left expected. I knew that he would have been shaking in his boots after hearing this but I wished I was there t
Jasmine's POV. When I got downstairs I adjusted my sunshades so that I didn't get easily recognized. A bodyguard ushered me to the car waiting at the curb and I rolled my eyes when I saw a Lamborghini sitting prettily waiting for me. The driver opened the door as soon as I got closer and I walked in. Mr blackwood looked straight ahead, pretending not to see me, and I rolled my eyes again. If we were going to have a conversation where we had to team up he had to reduce his ego because it wasn't going to work for me. "Who thought that I'd see you again?" I inquired from him stylishly, acting like I didn't know he was angry or needed that information so badly. "Maxwell start the car." He ordered. I was happy hearing his voice, so I decided to tease him a bit by placing my arm on his thigh. A flicker in his gaze showed me that I was unto something. "Do you realize that this is inappropriate? You are not under any influence so I would not excuse your behavior." He sna
Jasmine's POV Now I was fuming! We appeared right before the elevator and I rolled my eyes angrily. I wasn't expecting that he would speak to me at least just yet. "Don't smile at anyone." "You're not my boss." I replied and he looked at me with a small smirk that would seem unnoticeable. "I am not but if we are going to venture into marriage, we need to set some ground rules." His eyes flashed with heat as he took a sweeping glance across me from head to toe. "What?" "Yeah... This is exactly what I imagined you to be like. It's not going to become a good business if we don't set some ground rules. I know that you're always ready to fight me and stuff like that, but this won't work if we don't do the right thing. I won't allow you be the boss, darling." The elevator dinged and I turned toward him. "you are kidding me right now." I muttered and he grinned at me, his eyes gleaming with an emotion that I couldn't place my finger on. "What the hell?" I repeated. "We d
