Alexia’s POV
A look of satisfaction crossed Ethan’s face as I signed the contract. I handed the contract papers back to him and he accepted the file and placed it on his desk carefully like it was some lottery ticket. “Good decision, Alexia. You won’t regret this.” Ethan said as he leaned back on his chair and steepled his fingers. “Now about these embezzlement charges. I believe in your innocence Alexia, there’s no way you could have done this, I have worked with you for years now and I don’t know you to be the materialistic type. Which is why I will have a discreet investigator look into your case. Someone who won’t raise any alarms within the company.” I sighed with relief. Ethan believed me and that was all that mattered. I believed with Ethan on my side, I could have a chance of clearing my name. “How will that clear my name?” I asked curious to know about Ethan’s plan. “Let’s just say there might be ....irregularities in the accounting department. Discrepancies that could cast doubt on the initial accusations against you. Once my investigator uncovers these, we can approach the board and my father with a revised report, effectively exonerating you.” Ethan said as he let out a thin smile. “What kind of irregularities? And who could be behind them?” I asked intrigued that Ethan could come up with a seemingly quick solution. “That’s for the investigation to reveal. But rest assured, once you’re my wife, clearing your name becomes my priority. As long as you follow the terms in the contract.” Ethan stated and I gulped nervously. “What if I don’t follow a clause in the contract?” I asked curiously “Let’s not be pessimistic Alexia. I have no doubt you will follow the terms of the letter.” Ethan chuckled and I didn’t know where he got his confidence from. I decided not to press the issue and just replied with a weak nod. “Now, with the legalities out of the way, we need to address the wedding. Next week is a bit tight but achievable. We’ll keep it small, a private ceremony with a few witnesses. You can invite your kid brothers but that’s all. I’ll handle the arrangements. You just focus on getting ready, Mrs Blackwood-to-be.” Ethan rose from his seat. “How do you expect me to just tell my brothers that I’m getting married next week?” I asked helplessly. “You’ll figure it out. I’ll see you later Alexia. You can take the week off from work, I’ll come up with a suitable excuse for you in case anyone asks.” Ethan stated as he walked towards his shelf to arrange some documents. I took this as a sign to leave so I said a quiet thank you to him and I walked out of his office. I made my way through the massive company and ignored the accusing fingers and pointed looks from my co-workers. I knew that the rumors of the embezzlement must have circulated through Blackwood Enterprises but I didn’t care. As I continued to walk towards the reception, a familiar voice called out my name and I turned around to face her with a smile on my face. “Alexi. Wait up.” Bridget, my best friend, called after me as she made her way towards me with quick steps. I couldn’t help but notice her expensively stylish outfit. Sometimes I wondered why a trust fund kid like Bridget took interest in me and made me her friend. I was way below her class but she still warmed up to me when I first came to work in this company. I smiled and felt a sense of happiness gust in me when I saw her approach me. “Hey, Bridget,” I replied. “I heard about what happened, is everything alright?” Bridget asked with a look of concern on her face. I had the urge to tell her what transpired between Ethan and me but Ethan clearly warned me that he wanted this to be a secret. I gulped up the words that I initially wanted to say and let out a wry smile. “I’m fine. Ethan said he’ll investigate this further and so I’m on suspension for a while.” I came up with the perfect lie while shrugging my shoulders. “I’m so sorry Alexia,” Bridget said and she enveloped me in a tight bear hug. “You know I believe you right? You would never do something like this. I promise I’ll try my best to find out who did this.” My heart warmed up when I heard the determination in Bridget’s voice. “Thank you, Bridget.” I choked out, holding back the tears that threatened to spill out. “There’s no trouble Alexia. Is there anything you need? Anywhere you want to go?” Bridget broke off the hug and stared at me with those big beautiful grey eyes of hers. I was very sure that if I asked her for a trip to Paris to chill and unwind, she would get the plane tickets ready in a heartbeat. “No, you’ve already done enough. I’ll just go home and I’ll sleep it off. I’ll be better by tomorrow.” I shook my head, declining her offer. I was about to get married next week, I needed some alone time to sort out my thoughts because right now, my thoughts were in chaos. “Alright dear, I’m just a call away if you need anything.” Bridget nodded and after one final hug, she bade me farewell to go back to her department. I hurriedly made my way to my car and pinned the door shut. The emotional turmoil of the day finally sank in and I burst into tears. I let the tears roll down freely as I thought about my impending marriage and the accusatory stares of my co-workers. The image I had built with blood and sweat was threatening to unravel and I just hoped I made the right decision to agree to the contract marriage. “Hey miss, miss are you alright?” I heard a knock on my door window and I looked up to see the worried face of Charles the security guard. I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes and rolled down the window to flash a fake smile at him. “I’m alright Charles. I just had a rough day.” I said in the sweetest voice I could muster. Charles nodded and walked in the direction of his security booth. I let out a heavy sigh and started the car ignition. I put the car in reverse and I left Blackwood Enterprises. As I drove home, my mind was preoccupied with thoughts of how I was going to break the news about my impending marriage to my brothers.Ethan’s POVA content smile spread across my face as Alexia left the room. This was it, I would finally get what was rightfully mine from my insufferable old man. The kind of rules that man set are just so damn hilarious. I mean I could understand the rules he set in place but why on earth would he include marriage as a necessity? I mean who does that these days? I had already proven to be a worthy heir to the company but he insisted I must settle down before I could think about inheriting the company as the new CEO.Marriage wasn’t an issue; even though I wasn’t feeling the idea of being with a single person for the rest of my life, if I had to get married out of necessity then I would. The real problem, however, was the ladies that flocked around me. All of them, the whole lot of them were a bunch of gold diggers heavily intent on spending my money. Unluckily for them, they end up falling in love with me and they expect a lifelong commitment after I’ve seen their true colours. Th
Alexia’s POVOne week later I sat in the bridal suite surrounded by the soft glow of candles and the sweet scent of flowers. This was it, today was the day I would be married to Ethan. My pure white wedding dress hugged my curves in all the right places, it felt like it was tailored just for me. The lace details sparkled like diamonds against the ivory silk, and the veil cascaded down my back like a river of moonlight. It was simply an expensive work of art.I couldn’t believe he had sent this two days before the wedding. I had already decided to use my mother’s wedding gown when he sent this with a simple note that read: This would suit you perfectly. He wasn’t wrong, it wasn’t too tight and it wasn’t too loose. It was just perfect.I glanced at the mirror at my right to stare at my reflection. My makeup was applied with a light hand just as I requested. My red hair was styled in a chic low bun that showcased my bare neck.Tears misted over my eyes as I began to think about the c
Alexia's POV“I object to this wedding! Alexa is a fraud and she has bewitched Ethan” A beautiful brunette with the body of a model declared vehemently, eyes flashing with barely restrained rage as she walked to the front”I was shocked by her allegations since I am quite sure I have never met or spoken to her before. Turning away from the intruder, I met Ethan's gaze, quietly asking him to explain what in the world is going on here and why is there a stranger accusing me of being a fraud!“Alexia please calm down, I will handle this! Just give me a minute to seek this out” he whispered to me, and with a louder voice, “If you would excuse me for ten minutes Father, I would like to sort out this misunderstanding” he said addressing the Priest, who in turn nodded his understanding.“I should come with you”“That won't be necessary! You just wait here, I will be back before you know it” Without waiting for my response, he strode off to meet with the strange lady, who had been joined b
Ethan's POVThe reception party was in full swing, people dancing and everyone celebrating while I stood in a corner completely mesmerized by Alexia's beauty. I knew that gown would look perfect on her the moment the stylist I paid to get the dress, sent a picture to me. It hugged her beautiful curves in an addictive way and brought out her hair color. She was so engrossed in dancing with her brothers that it felt like she was the only one there, the way her body moved with reckless abandon. This is the first time I've seen her act so carefree. I wished I was the one dancing with her. I know the whole getting married to me so abruptly is still difficult to process, I practically gave the poor girl an ultimatum. Marriage or prison. I don't know what my mother and Lisa's plan was. Like why would they think it was smart to try and disrupt the wedding? I need to apologize to Alexia when we finally get some alone time.I get tired of watching her dance because I'd rather she dances with me
Alexia's POV The drive to the Blackwood mansion started quiet and depressing. I had a lot of doubts in my mind. From leaving my brothers alone to moving in with his family knowing how much they dislike me. I must look like an opportunistic gold-digger to them and I don't want to think about myself in that light.I thought it would continue being depressing but luckily for me Ethan noticed my mood and tried to cheer me up. I can't deny the fact that his method of cheering me up worked. I would say being a playboy made him have such a good way with words.Despite Ethan being a well-known playboy, I know he is a good person. I have worked with him for years and even though he has tried to flirt with me multiple times after I drew the line he stopped. He didn't become mean or anything, he just stopped trying to get me into his bed except for the occasional jokes he'd make. Now look at us, together. Married too but not in love. Never, Ethan and love can't be put in the same sentence. We f
Alexis's POVI wake up feeling slightly refreshed but still very much exhausted. I search for my phone and see it's still 4 am. I look at the other side of the bed where I can't help but notice Ethan's absence.I don't even think he slept here last night but I can't think of where else he would be. Out with his other women! That nagging voice screamed in my head. I shouldn't care what Ethan does with his life; the contract gave him that much liberty but I can't help but feel slightly annoyed. Like couldn't he wait one more day before trying to get away from me?I sigh in frustration. This is not the married life I dreamed for myself but then like earlier stated I had dreams and this is the hard cold reality.I drag myself from the bed to get into the ensuite bathroom. Perks of being married to a billionaire I suppose. I take a nice long relaxing shower that helps calm my nerves. After that, I feel much more refreshed and ready to take on whatever the day has for me. I walked out of th
One week later…Alexia’s POVIt’s been a week, and one thing I can say with full confidence is that I hate being married to Ethan. The funny part is Ethan isn’t even the real problem. The problem I have is his family. They find new ways to make me uncomfortable.Mr. Blackwood has barely said ten words to me which is at least better than his wife who never misses an opportunity to insult me. I think the highlight of it for me was the day I tried to do something nice and cook for the family. This woman spat in my food. I remember what she said like it happened just yesterday. That is because it did happen yesterday, silly. My inner voice mocks me.My mother-in-law said, “This is the biggest abomination I have ever tasted. Can you do anything useful at all?” her words stung more than I’d care to admit. Ethan had said absolutely nothing to defend me. His father remained silent while Mrs. Blackwood dropped insult after insult on me. I don’t know what I did wrong to this woman except for ma
Ethan’s POVI sigh feeling accomplished. I managed to bag a date with Alexia. At first, I wasn’t sure she’d say yes but she pleasantly surprised me. I felt guilty for not defending her during the whole dinner fiasco. My mother was the one at fault. I mean Alexia’s lasagna was exquisite, you could only find cooking that good in very few places. My mother just decided to be petty and hurt poor Alexia’s feelings. I was helpless though. As much as I wanted to help, I still had to factor in the fact that she was my mother. I wanted to avoid conflict and, in the end, Alexia was the only one affected.I finish up with work quickly needing to pick Alexia up. It’s already past 6 but if I leave now, I could make it a little after 8 which to me is fair enough. I leave my office and get into my car. I gave my driver the day off so I have to drive on my own. That’ll give us privacy at least. Halfway through the ride, my phone starts ringing. I plan on ignoring it but as the ringing refuses to sto
