Seven years had passed. Seven years of working hard to make ends meet and take good care of my babies. Claiming a new identity, a new name, and finding a purpose. Aunt Silvia had been of great help and treated me like her daughter ever since, even after Sarah’s death, and I was glad that I wasn’t utterly alone in this world. However, it still made my heart ache to date that I couldn’t save Sarah. I owed everything I was today to her.
“Don’t forget, Tricia, you must convince him to partner with us. The company depends on it. Your job, too.” Alpha Lee Drakon, the company’s CEO, reminded me as he rolled in his chair, stroking his mustache. The light from the window reflected on his bald head. He was a plump man who had unending rules that I always seemed to overcome.
“Alright, sir,” I mumbled. “I promise,” I added, and he waved me off.
STRINGS was a tech company, and we competed with two more companies that seemed to want Mr. Evans’s sponsorship. Having someone like him on our team would give us many advantages, so they said. However, I didn't know what he looked like. According to sources, he was a man of secrecy. His Beta Ryder had attended all his meetings.
I awaited his driver, whom his Beta had said would pick me up. My phone rang in my brown leather bag, and I pulled it out to see Aunt Slivia calling.
“I was just about to call you,” I said the second I picked up.
“Mummy, it’s me, Cooper.” His sweet little voice echoed through the phone, and I smiled. “Grandma said you aren’t coming back home tonight. Is that…” His voice trailed off, followed by several cracks.
“Mom. Mom. It’s..”
“Caleb.” I completed it and heard him giggle.
“How do you know?” He sounded excited, and it made my heart flutter. Growing up, there had been a lot of commotion concerning who was who, which made the boys figure out their pattern of doing it. They were pretty smart for their age.
“Because I am your mother, and I love you.” I heard the others grumble, and I quickly added, “All of you.” I heard them laugh.
“You should come home early. Could you meet our Math teacher? He is handsome and single.”
I let out a sigh. It had been three months already of them trying to match me with men they believed was right, even though I kept explaining to them that I did not need a man, not after everything I had to go through.
“Promise you will when you get back. Meet him, we mean.” Caleb’s voice jotted me back to reality.
“Please, Mummy, don’t say no. Every other kid has a dad, and yesterday, the school held an only Dads activity, and the other kids made Charlotte cry.” Cooper chirped in, and it made my heart break into tiny bits. I felt so bad that I had to keep them away from their Dad. I had to lie to them that he died, even though it was all for their good.
A black car pulled up before me, and the driver plopped out his head.
“Miss Tracia?” He said, and I gave him a nod.
“Alright, darlings, when mama gets back, okay. I have to go now. I love you, all.” I hung up and placed it back into my purse. At that moment, I realized that I didn’t get to speak with Charlotte and Aunt, too. That would have to be later. I sighed as I got into the car.
After fifteen minutes, the car parked in front of one of the most luxurious hotels in town. BEYOU, it read clearly. I stepped out with the Beta standing outside the White building.
“Come with me. He is a busy man, and he is just in town for business. He awaits you in the lounge. Last floor.” He informed me, escorting me to the elevator. The always-occupied hotel seemed too quiet today, as though no soul existed, and it made me wonder what type of man he was, but I was at least grateful that he was meeting with me directly. It would make the negotiation easier.
My heart raced slightly as I approached the lounge, and I wondered why. With every step I took, the pace increased.
“He is here.” My wolf whispered, causing my heart to stop, as well as my legs.
I knew who it had to be. My nemesis. It was impossible. I couldn’t let him meet me. Not when I had to pretend to be dead to escape him years ago. I had to hold my breath and wait till I was buried to run off with the help of Sarah. I made them believe that I had poisoned myself from the fear of him. I couldn’t let him see me. Quickly, I turned around and made my way back to the elevator.
“I believe you came here to meet me.” I heard his oddly familiar voice, and my breath hitched. I gripped hard onto my dress as my heart raced. My feet were oddly stuck. I couldn’t move even when he got closer. “Hi, Beatrice. It has been forever. Missed me?”
I gulped down a lump of saliva and slowly raised my eyes to meet his. A smile spread his thin lips.
“Can we proceed with the meeting? I have somewhere to be in ten minutes.” He said so casually and strolled away as though he wasn’t shocked to see me. I walked behind him even though every single voice in my head was telling me to run as fast as I could.
But my job was on the line. All I had to do was sign this and leave, never to see him again.
I played with my fingers as his eyes ran over my proposed plan. He looked as breathtaking as always. His eyes. His lips. That night…
“I’m afraid I must turn down your company’s proposal. You suddenly show up from the dead. Who knows what other secrets you have.” My jaw dropped as he spoke, and I got up. “I spent years blaming myself for your death. I’m glad you are safe.” His eyes softened before he walked out of the lounge. Leaving me overwhelmed with shame and guilt
XANDER’S POVMy eyes ran over the scorching sun as I puffed another smoke in the air, letting the stinging taste of the whiskey burn my chest badly. This was just a glimpse of what I deserved for what I did to my mate. Even though It had been seven years, I still couldn’t stop blaming myself for showing up in her life. If only I had let her be. If only I never got down from the car the other day. Suppose I had ignored my wolf’s endless pleas to meet her just on my way back from a meeting. But her smell had grasped me, welcoming me as I approached the bar. Yet, with each step I took, I could feel my anger boiling at the thought of another man touching her. I felt a wave of relief just seeing her sit there alone, drowning in her sorrow. Somehow, I felt something tearing at my chest, and I could feel her pain, her sadness, and at that time, I had wanted nothing more than to take it all away.I ran my thumb over my neck where her name was tattooed, Beatrice. It had taken a few punches to
XANDER’S POVHow does one feel when the one mate you have awaited for years treats you like a fool? She tricks you into hating every core of yourself, then shows up without a feeling of remorse.I grunted as I squeezed hard the wine glass I held. This was the seventh glass I was taking, and every single time, her face came back clearly in my mind. Her two-timing yet pretty face. A face that I was going to make shed tears. I lowered my head to see my blood drop on the tiles. The broken glass had penetrated my palm, yet I felt no pain. I had been through worse. Pulling out my phone, I dialed my Beta, and his voice came through in a second.“Get me all the information on her,” I ordered and hung up before he could respond. Wrapping my palm, I headed out of the hotel, straight to one of the bars I had found in town. The whole place was rowdy, with the smell of alcohol and sweat consuming the air. The loud music blared from the speakers, and I settled in the corner of the VIP room, overloo
BEATRICE’S POVThe date the night before had been a disaster. It had taken every strength in me not to ditch him and run. Was it the way he kept calling me pumpkin? Or trying to act like we were so much in love. The only reason I had stayed back was because Aunt Silvia made me promise to get through this one date. For the sake of the kids, she had said. However, it came in handy when my worst nightmare decided to stroll through the room like he fucking owned it. Every step he took had my heart pounding because I could tell from the hotness of his gaze on me. It burnt through my skin and threatened to search my soul as well. But above all, I knew he was dangerous, and I knew better than to let myself mingle with him beyond business level. Or to let him know that my babies exist. “How was the date?” Aunt Silvia finally asked as she poured herself a cup of coffee and settled beside me. I had expected the question all day, yet it was late afternoon. I felt something wrong with how she mo
BEATRICE’S POVMy eyes darted around the restaurant as I awaited the arrival of whoever the owner of the message was. Something about wanting to partner with the company: yes, maybe doing this without the knowledge of the boss was absurd, but if it turned out to be a potential client, then I wouldn’t have to put up with the annoying attitude of Xander. All we needed was someone willing to invest in ‘Dreamland’, our company’s new project. I glanced at my watch again. Thirty minutes had passed, yet nothing. I let out a frustrated sigh the second the voice in my head reminded me that it could have been a prank.“HI, Beatrice. We meet again.” The overly familiar voice vibrated in my ears, and I felt my heart flip multiple times. My breathing got stuck the second our eyes met. “Did you miss me?” He laughed dryly. “Kai. What are you doing here?” I was in shock. How was he five hours away from his pack? Why?“Oh, baby. Is that the ‘I miss you’ I get after so long?” He was dressed in a whi
BEATRICE’S POVThe dreadful day that I had long avoided slowly slipped in like a thick fog consuming the sky, and now I knew it was either I faced it head-on or lost my job, and the latter wasn’t an option. I patted my face with the powder foam for the umpteenth time as my heart thumped loudly against my rib cage. It was funny how I had changed my hairstyle into something more elegant, just like my son advised. But what could Xander be up to this time? What was his plan? Did he know about the kids? My hands trembled at the thought, but I straightened out the unseen wrinkles on my Red gown. The choice of colour was the only way to intimidate him, accompanied by my red lipstick. Call me unprofessional, but I wasn't about to let him have the last laugh. The meeting was due in an hour, and the company was forty-five minutes drive from my house. “You don’t have to go if you don’t want to. I can always support you and my grandkids.” Aunt Silvia reminded me the second I got into the sittin
BEATRICE’S POVI said no word to him as his car drove on. Being this close to him made the air thicken with tension, and I could barely breathe. He said nothing, but I could feel his eyes on me. My heart thumped against my ribcage, and my fingers trembled. “You look good today.” He muttered out of the blue, causing me to look at him. His eyes were as beautiful as always.“Thanks. You too.” I responded, nervousness munching off me. According to the books I had read, giving back compliments like these meant I didn't see myself worthy of it. Nevertheless, I look out the window again. Soon, we arrived at the tall White building, and his car was parked. I watched as his driver held his door open to let him down, then proceeded to do the same for me, and I caught Xander shaking his head.“We are here.” Xander’s voice pulled me back to reality. He was holding my door open with his left hand stretched towards me. “Hold me.”Something about the way he said it made me transfixed for a second, b
BEATRICE’S POVJust like every other normal day, I got up and got the kids dressed for school. All was going just fine until I opened my front door to find flowers sitting right there. Every single space was occupied by one. Flowers of different colours and kinds.“Oh, Mummy's got an admirer.” My kids' excitement pierced through the air.“Waw! He must like Mummy to bring all of this. It must have taken him all night. It is just like Cinderella and the prince.” Charlotte awned. While I just stood there transfixed. Their words must have caught the attention of their grandma because soon, she was standing beside me.&l
Beatrice POV. “You have to be kidding, sir. How is he the CEO?” My voice quivered as I watched him sit there with his shoulders squared but Alpha Lee didn't seem bothered. He shrugged his shoulders and then stroked his chin.“Nice question, Beatrice, but this is my company, and I'll rule it as I deem it first.” He bellowed, then laughed dryly when Xander gave him an eye. “Sorry, I mean, was my company. Besides, Mr. Xander here was nice enough to take this shithole of my palms. Too many debts. Phew!” He sighed. “I’m free.” He added a cackle.“Sir, you can't be serious about letting him take over the company. Can't you see he has a motive? He has a motive, sir. You cannot do this to us. You can't do this to me.” I was shaking as I spoke. I was on the verge of breaking down. Things were spiralling too fast, and somehow it felt like the goddess was mocking me.“My decision has been made, Beatrice. He is the new CEO. I will be in the background to coordinate everything to ensure this coll
Beatrice's POVI couldn't even wait for the bell to go off in the office so I could go home and meet the apples of my eyes.I walked into the house, my mind exploding in different Angles. Everything just happened in a little period. I'm sure Xander was stunned that I could confront him just like that, but the sad reality is that I still can't get out of that company because even if I hide in a hole, Xander will find me. So I think relocating is the best option. I have to discuss it with Sarah, and everything will be done. I needed space and time, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter how hard I tried, it would follow me.The kids were in the living room, laughing and playing, completely unaware of the tension that had built up between their mother and their father — the man who had always seemed to be a constant, whether I liked it or not."Mom!" Charlotte shouted as I walked through the door.I forced a smile, trying to push away the discomfort in my chest. "Hey, sweetie.
Xander’s POVI sat on the chair in my office; the office seemed oddly quiet today, or was it my imagination? The weight of my decisions today still made my heart feel heavy. It was as if my whole body was shaking internally— probably a travel of anger from my confrontation with Beatrice. I wonder if I kept doing this to her. Every time I got home, I sniffed her clothes and longed for her body, but anytime I saw her, my cruelty was not under control. She's even my mate, for that matter.Oh my Goodness, I'm so exhausted! It had been hours since I had rejected her proposal— this should be her fifth attempt to impress me, though I fully knew nothing was wrong with the first proposal.I closed my eyes and leaned back in the chair, taking a long, slow breath. I had thrown the proposal aside without thinking, frustration clouding my judgment. But now that I was alone, the anger had dissipated into something deeper—something I couldn't quite understand or fathom. Maybe it was guilt. Maybe i
Beatrice’s POVI didn’t know how long I could take this in this office. I had to work overnight on this proposal, and it was rejected with only one word: re-do it. Who does Xander Thane think he is?He owns the company—not me or my hardwork!I can't even explain how I'm feeling. I've had no sleep or dinner, yet everything I worked on got rejected. I made my way to my cubicle, where everyone looked at me from time to time and whispered, but who cares? I have to rewrite this proposal!I think I'll get the ideas from the last proposal and edit it. I moved my cursor to bring out the extracts and implemented them, then went to the demon's office to tell him I was done. I knocked on the door and opened it. I was about to submit it when he said to re-do it, but... You haven't checked it!“ I am the boss here, not you."I immediately turned out of the office before I broke into tears. I buried my head and stared at the colourful tiles until I got to my cubicle. The office lights buzzed ove
Beatrice’s POV The moment I stepped into the house, I felt so tired, from my temple to my whole legs. This Xander of a man is committed to making my day at the office miserable Every Time. I felt like that was his main purpose on this earth.Every single time, he keeps overloading me with work. The fact that he pays a high salary doesn't cover the fact that he acts rudely toward me. I'm so darn tired of him and the office as a whole. The only thing keeping me upright was the thought of my babies—the only light in my dark, chaotic world.I tiptoed inside, careful not to wake them. The streetlights dimly lighted the living room. Outside, because the triplets must have slept, it cast soft shadows across the furniture. The triplets lay curled up in their beds, their small chests rising and falling rhythmically. A soft smile tugged at my lips despite my fatigue. They looked so peaceful, so untouched by the cruelty of the world. I can't imagine the day Xander will find out about them becau
Xander’s POVThe office was eerily silent. Everywhere felt as if I was in a burial ground. Let me use this period to analyse myself. “Was I really harsh to my employees?” I asked myself. Well, it's a me—to—me conversation; I can't get to know the truth like that.I leaned back in my chair, my eyes narrowing as I flipped through the latest financial reports. Something seemed off.No matter how I tried to work, there was always a nagging pain at his claw cheAnd I knew exactly what it was.Beatrice...I don't even understand again, or am I falling for her? That annoying woman. She had been a Thorn to me since she stepped into my life and this company. And yet, for reasons I couldn’t understand, I couldn’t look away.I told myself it was hatred. That I wanted her to suffer. I needed to remind her what she was—an omega, a weakling, a woman who had suffered from her ex-husband and never got the respect she needed from the pack. But then why did I feel this tightness in my chest every time
Beatrice’s POVThe day had drained every ounce of energy from me. I was very sad about today's turn of events, and I've never felt more humiliated than before today. All eyes were on me as I stood quietly to serve Xander. This man was just the definition of cruelty. Was I sure this was the man I had given my virginity to? After exiting the car a few blocks from my house, I stumped my feet on the ground. I yelled out loud; I HATE XANDER THANE. May you be miserable forever and ever. When I finally walked through my apartment door, my body ached from exhaustion, and my mind felt numb. It wasn’t just the long hours at work or the weight of my responsibilities—it was him. Xander. The way he treated me. The way he made me feel so small as if I were nothing more than a disposable piece in whatever grand scheme he was playing, I had made up my mind never to let him discover my three treasures. If he discovered they were his children, how would he react — he can't kill them for sure.Differen
Xander’s POVThe room was filled with tension. Every eye was set on me, but my temperament didn't change. I could feel Beatrice reeling in frustration, but I don't care now—she was the first person to hurt me by leaving. Even though I hated her, one part of my mind still felt like telling her sorry. I wanted to push it aside, to tell myself that it was all part of the game she had started—my way of asserting control over her. I had been doing it Since all this While, after all, manipulating, controlling, pushing her to the edge. Yet, today, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t the one in charge here.As she sat beside me, I saw the whispers in the eyes of the others, the subtle glances exchanged, the way they tried to pretend they weren’t watching. But they were. They always were. My reputation preceded me, and no one dared to challenge my decisions, not even if it was as trivial as ordering someone to serve me at a business lunch. When she poured my drink and returned to her s
Beatrice's POVImmediately after I left the office, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Xander hated me so much. Is this confirmed, or was he just trying to be possessive? No, I don't think he could ever be possessive; I was just like any other woman to him, a one-stand woman, but wait; if I should think about it carefully, this was the man that deflowered me, he was the one I was under once upon a time, screaming out my lungs.Different thoughts exploded through my mind, but I did my best to push them out of my mind as I made my way home.My treasures were waiting for me, and no matter what happened with Xander, they were the ones who always made me happy effortlessly.I was met with a chorus of voices when I walked in, each beaming with smiles. I dropped my keys immediately onto the table, and the tension I had been holding onto all day dissolved instantly with their voices.“Mom! You’re home!” Caleb said, rushing over to hug me, his small arms wrapping around me. “We missed you."
Beatrice’s POVThe moment I stepped into the house, I braced myself for what was coming.I could feel three pairs of eyes watching me. Their expressions were filled with disappointment and something that felt like irritation. My triplets—Caleb, Cooper, and Charlotte—were wide awake despite the late hour, sitting cross-legged with their arms folded. When I was upset, they looked exactly like me, which made my guilt worse.Charlotte was the first to speak, her voice sharp. “You’re late again.”I sighed, kicking off my heels and setting my bag by the door. “I know, baby. I’m sorry.”“You always say that,” Cooper muttered, turning his face away.Caleb, ever the observer, tilted his head. “Did you at least eat dinner?”I forced a smile. “I grabbed a little something.”His frown deepened. “Liar.”I winced. He wasn’t wrong.Charlotte let out a dramatic sigh. “Mom, we waited for you.”My chest tightened at their words. It wasn’t like I had a choice. Work had run late, and I couldn’t exactly a
