Chapter 84: Save

Stacy:

I jolted and awoke, gasping as if I had been drowning. My heart pounded as if I had just surfaced from deep underwater. I blinked rapidly, trying to clear the dark fog that clouded my vision. My breathing was shallow and panicked, and my body trembled as though it had just been pulled from an icy grip. For a long moment, I lay still, my mind clouded with flashes of cold water and the sensation of being dragged under it.

I blinked my eyes several times, I was certain I had drowned.

My hands flew to my chest, expecting to find it soaked and heavy, my lungs full of water. But there was nothing just the rise and fall of my breath, coming in gasps. The room around me was still unfamiliar, but the scent lingering in the room smelled familiar. A single beam of morning light streamed through the window, casting long shadows across the floors. I still couldn't recognize the room, the room felt foreign and welcoming, as if it existed in another world, far from the riverbank where I last
