Chapter three
Karen POV Two years later...It's been two years since the demise of mom, and somehow, I'm already getting over it, but it's still difficult to forget about it completely. I've been working as a broker to Mr. Ryan, the young CEO of Ryan empire, a construction company.
It's been almost two years since I started working for Ryan, and I must confess that it has been the best experience of my life so far. Ryan is a nice handsome dude but can be very crazy, and for that, I always do my best to avoid having any issues with him. I'm a crazy type myself, and it wouldn't be a good turn, having issues with him.
It's Friday today, being the last working day of the week. All I'll need to do in the office today is work on the activities of the past days, work on my boss's schedule, and contact his clients too.
I've been busy all through the week, going to one meeting or the other, since my boss has been busy with some things lately, the responsibility of the meetings shifted to me, and I must confess that I've been stressed out.
"Bye, dad."I hugged dad partially, before leaving for work. Stepping out of the house, I walked over to the parking lot, and hopped in on my favorite pink sports car, before driving out of the compound, and in the next few minutes, I was already on my way, driving to the company.
As I drove on the road, I kept glancing at my wristwatch, to make sure I was not late for work. The last thing I want now is to get on my boss's nerves, I don't want him acting all crazy today.
After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally got to the gate of the company and drove inside. I parked at the parking lot, and alighted from the car, before striding to the entrance door. As soon as I stepped into the company, my colleagues kept waving at me, as I walked through the lobby. I finally got to the front of our office, and I sighed softly, before pushing it open, after which I walked inside, and I'm happy I'm not so terribly late, as there were a few staff around.
"Hi, Karen."They all greeted me excitedly, and I smiled at them, before walking over to my seat.
"Finally you're here, I've been waiting for you. I've missed you so much."My crazy friend, Mavis whined, as she stood up from her seat, and came to hug me. Gosh! She's so crazy.
"Oh please, don't be so clingy. We saw each other yesterday, so stop making it look like we haven't seen for long."I rolled my eyes, and she huffed.
"Can you be appreciative for once?"She scoffed, as she ruffled my hair, and started running away.
"You!"I grunt in between gritted teeth, as I pointed my finger at her sternly.
The sound of my ringing phone distracted me, and I glared at her, before reaching out to my phone, and sliding the answer button, not even bothering to check who the caller was.
"Meet me in my office.'' A familiar voice came, and the call disconnected immediately. I gasped sharply, and glanced at the screen of my phone, before grimacing, I know I'm in for some shit now.
I stood up sluggishly from my seat, and arranged my messy hair, before walking briskly towards the door.
"Where are you going, Karen?"Mavis yelled after me, and I stopped walking, before tilting my head to look at her with a smirk on my face.
"Going to report you to the CEO. You're playing on duty, be ready to get your sack letter in a jiffy."I winked at her, and with that, I walked out of the office and closed the door behind me.
I walked through the hallway, till I got to the front of his office, and I rolled my eyes at nothing, before twisting the doorknob, and peeked in to see his secretary, sitting behind his desk, typing away his life on the desktop. I wonder what kind of human being he is, he never gets tired, when everyone is resting, he's always working, I doubt if the annoying and crazy boss is even paying him double of other worker's salaries. I think I need to ask him for confirmation.
"Hi, Jeffrey."I smiled, as I greeted almost in a whisper.
"Karen."He called surprisingly with a smile on his face, as he raised his gaze to look at me.
"You're working this early morning again? Do you ever get tired?"I cupped my cheeks, while giving him a pitiful look. He must be going through a lot.
"Yeah, I have a deadline to meet up with."He smiled and resumed working.
"Is this always happening? Anyways, how much is the CEO paying you?"I asked curiously. Honestly, I don't know when I turned into a talkative, but I'm really curious right now.
"Huh?"He gave me a questioning look. I believe he wasn't deaf when I asked that question just now?
I opened my mouth to talk when my phone came ringing, and I ended the call, without even checking who the caller was.
"Didn't the boss send for you?"He asked with a smirk on his face, and I gasped sharply. Gosh! I have forgotten that I'm here for something.
Walking over to the door to the CEO's office, I placed a soft knock on it many times but got no reply.
"Is he in?"I turned to Jeffrey and asked confusingly while pointing at the door. I don't think he's in, because if he is, he should've answered, or maybe he has lost his sense of hearing.
"Yes."Jeffrey nodded, and I gave him a confused look, before I finally pushed the door open, and peeked in to see him standing at the window side while looking out. Wow! So he's been here all these times that I've been knocking?
"You sent for me..."
"Why the heck, did you decline my call?"He asked calmly, as he stayed in the same position, and I stared at his back confusingly. I didn't remember him calling me. I gasped sharply, as it dawned on me that I ended a call just now, gosh! How could I not have known that he was the one calling?"I'm sorry sir, my mistake,"I said almost in a whisper.
"Get ready, you're going to be meeting a client in thirty minutes."He said, and I snapped my head up. What! I have a lot of work to do today...
Chapter 19Wondering who called me earlier? Well, it was my girlfriend, Amy. Yeah, you heard that right. Though I'm a bad boy, but I can still fall in love, right? I know you may be thinking that how can I say I love her and still have an affair with other ladies, well, screw that! You can think whatever you wanna think, not that I care though. I love her and the most important thing is that I respect her, by not letting her know the shitty stuffs I do behind her back, that would've been the height of it all. I and the beautiful young lady have been together for a couple of years now. Yes, you heard that right. We started dating right from high school, our love bloom until we graduated from high school, we managed to gain admission into the same college and yes, it was really fun. Those memories are what I will never let go of. The feeling of getting to school with your partner and get to spend time together, that's fun, right? Amy is the daughter of multi billionaire, the CEO of Tr
Chapter 18He shut his eyes tightly as the water dripped from his face. What the heck just happened? Meanwhile, Mavis stood glaring at him with the glass cup she had emptied the content on his face, in her hand. Well, she had been looking for a way to meet the arrogant young man, and now that she had finally met him, there was no way she was going to let this slide. After Karen had told her about what happened, though she had never met the man before, she had been looking forward to the day she would finally meet him and teach him a lesson. "What the heck was that, miss?" He snapped at her angrily, as he finally opened her eyes and she smirked at him. Kingsley just stood watching the whole drama in shock, wondering what his beloved cousin must've done to the crazy girl, to deserve the crazy treatment from her. "You...""Mavis!" Karen called surprisingly, rushing over to her where she was standing, but stopped abruptly as she beheld Dylan. What the heck! Her friend had just messed t
Chapter 17He stared at the security guard as he bundled her out of the gate, and he couldn't help cracking up. He had been at home taking care of his dad for days now, and now that he came to work today, this young lady thinks she can just pop out from nowhere and ruin his day? No way! He wasn't going to allow that. He shook his head unbelievably before he turned around and headed to the entrance door. The door rolled open as he got close and he made his way in. His workers stood up to greet him as soon as he walked in, but as always, he ignored them and headed straight to his office. They can save their greetings for who needs them, he wasn't in the mood of replying to any of their greetings. He walked elegantly and gracefully to the elevator, which took him to the floor of his office, and as soon as it opened, he stepped out and walked into his office. Henry, his secretary stood up to greet him as soon as he sights him, but he just waved him
Chapter 16With anger rushing in her veins, she sauntered to the car that just bashed her car, but before she could get there, a guy dressed in a black trouser and a red button down Polo fitted his body perfectly, with the two up buttons opened, revealing his hairless masculine chest, his thick black soft hair curled on his forehead, covering one of his brown eyes, his pink lips was wet from whatever he did with it. She stopped to recall where she had met the guy before, but it seems that luck wasn't on her side, as she found her brain dumb and couldn't recollect his face, but anyway, not that she gave a damn about where he came from, she was sure going teach him a lesson for messing with her."What was that nonsense all about, huh?" Karen snapped as soon as he got to him, venting all hid anger on him. She wasn't in a good mood, and to think that the guy got her more pissed, keeps getting to her, as she felt like transferring her aggression over to him.
Chapter 15Hearing a familiar voice behind him he was forced to look back, but pulled a puzzled and shocked expression as he beheld the most despicable person he ever hated with passion, Karen. He scoffed angrily before he finally turned to face her, his hands were tucked in his pockets, as he waited for her to get to him."Good morning Mr Dylan." Karen smiled, trying look confident, but her heart didn't stop racing as she prayed silently that what happened before doesn't repeat itself again."Keep it for who needs it. The last time I checked, I told you to never show your face in my company, ever again or don't you understand what is meant by that?" He asked calmly, but with anger resounding in his voice, and she could only bit her bottom lip, trying to control the sudden anger that surged through him. She couldn't believe that someone as handsome as Dylan can be so arrogant, but what hurts her the most, is the fact that she still nurses
Chapter 14Karen POVStaying at home, doing nothing has been the most horrible thing that ever happened to me. For these past weeks, I've been to Dylan's office for like ten times, but was always told that he's not around. I'm starting to get worried about him, I don't know if he's fine or not. I'm just going to give up trying anyways, not that he's going to sign the contract. The time I was given has elapsed, so there's no point.Letting out a frustrating sigh, I fell on my back on the bed, while staring at the ceiling, thinking of my whole life, I don't know of it'll ever get any better, I lost the most precious person in my life, which is mom, now I lost my job and my colleagues, who have been my only companies after the demise of my mom, am I not a bunch of bad luck? The sound of the knock on my door pulled my attention back to reality, and I rolled my eyes, knowing Lara is the one. Dad is not around, he has already
