Moments before, Max could feel something heavy on his head. After a few blinks, the man began to detect pain in the back of the skull. He had no choice but to close his eyes again.

Not long after that, the heavy weight suddenly shifted. Faintly, Max began to recognize the voices of the couriers. Along with his hearing, the man's sight gradually returned to normal. The walls no longer moved. They were still, just like Gabriella's body lying nearby.

"Gaby?"

Holding his head and squinting, the man got up and checked. As soon as he found the woman's heartbreaking condition, a sigh of disbelief escaped his mouth.

"Gaby?"

Without wasting any time, Max lifted the defenseless body into his arms. The pain in his head had been forgotten, replaced by an overwhelming fear.

With tears hanging down the cheeks, Max looked at the woman's pale face.

"Gabriella, wake up," he sighed with quivering lips. Some of his voice lingered in the very dry

With his chest shaking, Max grabbed the doorknob. Sadness and anger in his heart still clashed against each other, burning the air in his lungs. “Stop crying! Gaby can't be worried," Max thought, making suggestions. A few moments later, the man was finally able to catch his breath and put on a calm look. Having managed to remove the creases on the brows, with red eyes, he opened the door and curled his lips. Seeing her husband emerge from behind the door, Gabriella's eyes suddenly widened. Ignoring the pain all over her body, she tried to sit up straight. "Max," she sighed. Her vision was starting to blur with emotion. The closer Max was to her, the hotter her thick eyelids became. The longing and worry were almost undamaged. When her hand managed to touch the man, tears spilled from the dam. "Are you okay? You didn't hurt at all, did you?" Gabriella asked while holding her husband's shoulder and examining him carefully. A seco

“We have received the results of the examination from the hospital. Is it true that you only suffer a blow to the back of the head, while your wife has injuries almost all over her body?” Max's heart fluttered at the question of the man wearing the police badge. With tightly clenched fists, he nodded. "Right." "And you suspect that Mrs. Gabriella was more seriously injured because of trying to protect your head?" Once again, Max cleared his throat, overcoming the burning sensation in it. "Yes." The man in front of him spontaneously narrowed the eyes and straightened his back. "Is there a logical reason why the perpetrator didn't hit your body like he did to Mrs. Gabriella?" At such a question, Max's face suddenly stiffened. A thought had crossed his mind. “Apparently, that person knows about my head injury. I had a concussion and the doctor advised me not to get hit again.” "It's a little confusing. Why did the perpetrator attack your

As soon as Gabriella saw Max, a smile immediately greeted. Although her face was still pale, the woman stretched out her arms excitedly."How busy are you? I've been waiting for a long time,” Gabriella as she was impatient for her husband to embrace. While maintaining the slight curve of his lips, Max hugged his wife and rubbed her back very gently. "Forgive me. I have to finish the hospital administration and give information to the police.""Has there been any progress?" the woman asked as their eyes met."Not yet," Max said, shaking his head. He felt very guilty because he had to lie to his wife.A second later, the man took a quick breath. The direction of the conversation must be diverted immediately. "How is your condition? Has it gotten better?” he asked while tucking a strand of hair that dangled, behind Gabriella's ear.Without thinking, the woman nodded. "Yes. Snowy and Smiley takes good care of me. Carefully, Max led his wife to the toilet. When he arrived at the door, the woman smiled at him. “The only thing that hurt is my back, Max. I can walk alone,” Gabriella said casually. "But you still have to be watched," the man implied with a wrinkled brow. Patting her husband's hand, the woman pursed her lips. "I don't want to be a spoiled woman. So let me do it alone. If there's anything, I'll definitely call you." "But—" "I'm just peeing, Max," Gabriella said, raising an eyebrow. After taking a deep breath, the man finally let go of his wife's hand. "Don't lock the door." The woman chuckled and nodded. "I'll be fine," she said before entering. For a moment, Max stood with his brows furrowed nervously. The doctor had explained that the bleeding would still occur. He was really afraid that Gabriella would be shocked and shaken. "Max?" Gabriella suddenly called. The man was startled and wide-eyed. "What'

Witnessing the silence of his wife, Max's heart was getting worse. Gently, he pulled Gabriella into a hug."This isn't your fault, so don't punish yourself. Understand?" the man whispered as he was terrified of the possibility of losing his wife too.Strangely, a few seconds passed, Gabriella didn't answer at all. The woman's gaze was still on the horizon. Her teary eyes refused to shed any sorrow. Every now and then, she sighed. However, still no sound was heard. Her response raised a big question mark for the man."Gabby?" Max called while stroking the head that was leaning against him. Again, only his own sobs could be heard. While fighting the tightness in his chest, the man checked the woman's expression. As soon as he saw the pale face that was so flat, his brows furrowed deeper. "Gabby? Are you okay?"Slowly, the woman's gaze shifted towards the man. When they found each other, Gabriella finally moved her lips."So, we've lost the Lit

When Gabriella's eyelids began to vibrate, Max immediately got up from the chair. With a reassuring curve of lips, he greeted his wife. "How are you, Gaby?" he asked, stroking the pale face. For a few seconds, the woman just blinked slowly under the furrow of her brows. After taking a deep breath, she replied, "What happened?" "You had a high fever last night. Don't worry. It's getting better now. Are you dizzy?” Max asked, raising an eyebrow. "A little," Gabriella said hoarsely. “Then, does your back still hurt?” With a weak motion, the woman shook her head. "It's been much better." After one breath, the man's smile broadened. Carefully, he kissed the forehead of the woman who never left his sight. "Then do you want to get out of here?" Max whispered before returning to his cheerfulness. Receiving the unexpected invitation, Gabriella's brows furrowed deeper. “Out of this hospital?” "Yes," the man nodded

Gabriella lay with sad eyes fixed on the setting sun. Her breath was as calm as the ocean. No more rumbling choking the throat. There were no more conversations or sighs of laughter. Silence had accompanied the couple who were unmoved to greet the guest. "How are you, Max?" the man asked with the corners of his lips raised stiffly. Hearing the familiar pretentious tone, the man who was still holding his wife's hand instantly snorted. "What are you doing here? Are you sent by your father to kill me directly?” he replied sarcastically. With a guilty expression, the uninvited guest shook his head. "It is not like that. I come here of my own accord.” "What for?" Max asked as if he didn't know how to be friendly. Instead of stating his purpose, the man with furrowed brows only blinked, looking for the courage. "Whoa!" Cayden sighed as his father placed him on the back of a pony. With round eyes, he surveyed his height from the ground. Even though it was not much, the toddler in the cowboy hat still showed a happy smile. “How is it, Little Evans? Are you happy?” the woman who held the horse's rein asked. Not daring to move much, Cayden nodded at a limited angle. "Yes, Greta. I am happy. It's thrilling!” he answered enthusiastically. “Thrilling?” Gabriella muttered, furrowing an eyebrow. While continuing to rock her niece, the woman expressed astonishment. “Where did you learn that word, Little Prince?” "Daddy often mentions it," the toddler replied, successfully making his father wince. "Daddy said that the nights spent with Mom were always thrilling." As Gabriella glared at her husband, Greta burst out laughing. "Gosh, Max. I think you should be more careful now. Your genius son can absorb all the words you speak.” "Right. I'll be more caref

"If you kept avoiding me, I would really quit the company," Julian said, successfully freezing Mr. Hunt's steps. The old man was then blinking, digesting the words he thought he heard wrong. “Actually, my position as a CEO is being threatened for some reasons. I tried to keep it a secret from all of you. I didn't even let Mia know. But as it turned out, it wasn't easy at all. My mind became adrift. And because the burden was too heavy, my emotions finally exploded. I'm so sorry it had to happen in front of you." Hearing the tone that seemed honest, Mr. Hunt slowly turned his focus. Two seconds later, he saw the tears slide from the grandson's eyes. "I've tried to be strong and tough, Grandpa. I thought I could solve all problems. But it turns out, I haven’t found any solution yet. That's why I was angry when I failed to find Grace and you at the cemetery. It got me think that I am a useless man," Julian explained with the gloomy eyes landed on the grass.

Where should I look for him?” the man thought as he couldn't erase the wrinkles from his face. The burden in his heart was too heavy to ignore. After a few moments of struggling with the noise in his brain, Julian finally shook his head and blinked strongly. "No, no. Grandpa must be there. I'll take him home and things will automatically return to the way they were before," the man nodded, fostering hope. Ignoring the anxiety that kept swirling in his mind, he went faster. Unfortunately, as soon as Julian passed the cemetery gates, his steps were frozen. His jaw was dropping while his eyelids were lifted to the maximum. What he had hoped for quickly turned into disappointment. "No way! This is impossible!” he curs

“Greta, have you prepared delicious toast for us?” Cayden asked as the hostess opened the door wider to welcome him. "Sorry, Julian. I took Grace to see your grandmother for a while. Now, I intend to take her home. Even so, his hoarse voice was able to touch the hearts of the listeners, apart from his grandson. "But the way home is over there, Grandpa!" Julian snapped, still with eyebrows raised to the max. The young man didn't feel sorry at all for the hunched back that was getting weighed down by guilt. "I really can’t understand what’s on your mind. Don't you realize that your recklessness can lead to trouble? Didn't we agree to go together? Why did you secretly take Grace away?” he continued, thickening the wrinkles on his grandfather's forehead. Sensing her father's anger, Little Princess began to furrow her brows. Arriving at the cemetery, Julian was taken aback. What he saw was completely beyond expectation. There were no old man and baby among the tombstones. The grandfather and Grace left absolutely no trace. "This is impossible," Julian muttered as he quickened his pace. Neglecting his initial attempt to remain calm, the man sped toward the direction Greta had given. After searching for a while, he finally found the grandmother's name on one of the stones. “Right, this is the place. They should be here," Julian sighed, sounding desperate. With deep furrows, he circled around, trying to find any trace of either his daughter or Grandpa Hunt. Unfortunately, as far as the eye could see, the two remained off the radar. I should have walked more calmly so you wouldn't wake up," he whispered in between his ragged breaths. After her face had been dry, Grace rested her head on Mister Hunt's shoulder. Blinking slowly, she pursed her lips. The furrow of her tiny brows indicated that she still wanted to roll up in the blanket on the crib. The baby wondered why she was with her great-grandfather, sitting on a long bench at the edge of a path. “When I was young, I only need fifteen minutes to arrive at your great-grandmother's grave. But now, why does it feel so long and tiring?” Mr. Hunt grumbled as he wiped his forehead with one hand. After one quick breath, the old man stood up again and held Grace in his languid arms. Although the baby was a bit heavy, his lips still curled up warmly.
