Rhea's POV

Ginny was glowing.

Like, she was literally glowing. It was like there was a halo behind her head, shining over my eyes. She must have had a good time yesterday.

The moment our eyes met, she beamed at me, “Rhea! You're back!”

She hugged my arms tightly, her fake sweetness bursting like syrup, she was about to say something when my mother suddenly stomped towards me like a hurricane.

“Where have you been?!” She screamed, her voice high and shrill. All heads in the living room turned toward us.

The maids stiffened. The butler lowered his head awkwardly.

Even Ginny recoiled a little, stepping back with an innocent blink.

“I asked you a question, Rhea!” My mother’s voice cracked.

Before I could even part my lips, she slapped me.

Hard. The sound echoed through the room, leaving a painful sting across my cheek. I staggered back a step but didn’t fall.

“Mom…” Ginny said timidly, trying to intervene.

But my mother wasn’t done.

“You slut!” She spat, pointing a shakin

Chapter 20Rhea's Pov “An engagement?” I repeated, frowning, “Between the Vale's and us?” “Yes. The Mistress said you should come out immediately to see them, it is you that they are asking for.” The maid finished, her head going lower and lower the more she spoke. She had realised that power was possibly going to change hands very soon. “Alright, take me there.” I motioned for her to move. Though I was a bit confused, why did they come now? There was still quite a lot of time before the Vale's sent the engagement letter. Or was it because I met Alaric in that hotel? Had he checked my background and decided to rush the engagement? The sitting room was already filled with people that I didn't recognise and on a lone chair, the one my dad normally sat on was Alaric, his aura was practically visible in the air, he had a cold and blank expression on his face but there was a slight twitch of his lips. He was annoyed. I couldn't help the small giggle that escaped my lips at his expres

Rhea's POV “I didn't know that I had turned into a pimp, I should thank you for the new title, shouldn't I?” The room froze. Rachel’s mouth dropped open. Ginny gasped audibly, clinging to Rachel’s sleeve in panic. Even the messenger’s eyes widened in horror. I blinked, stunned for a second, before I smirked. Oh, this was even better than I imagined. “You…” Rachel stammered, her face rapidly losing color, “T…That’s impossible! Rhea… She… She must be lying to you! She seduced you!” Alaric’s expression darkened dangerously, “You’re accusing me of being easily seduced?” He asked quietly, his voice carrying a terrifying edge. Rachel paled even further, falling silent, “N… No, that's not it. Rhea… Rhea, she…” “Rhea with all her kindness has taken care of me until this morning as I fell unconscious without asking for anything in return and you should have been proud of her. Yesterday night, after I took Kevin to the room I had told The to go to, I found out that she wasn't there, it was empty. At first, I was angry that my plan to take a video of her having sex with Kevin, blurring his face and release it to the whole was destroyed, but then, I started feeling hotter and hotter as the minute went by. I didn't even realise the moment that I took off my clothes and asked Kevin to sleep with me. I had left the room before Kevin woke up and I ly went ba

Rhea's POV “I'm going to be late.” I muttered under my breath, checking my watch again, 9:40 AM. Twenty minutes until our marriage registry appointment. Twenty minutes until I was supposed to officially tie my life to Kevin’s. The taxi crawled through downtown traffic, each inch forward feeling like a cruel joke. Today was the day that my fiancé and I were going to register our marriage. I was happy, really, however… I stared at the rear view mirror, frowning at my red rimmed eyes which I tried to cover with makeup, to no avail though. Kevin didn't come back home last night, again. It was the fifth time in a row that I hadn't seen him, he said he was busy. “Emergency merger negotiations. Don’t wait up..” His words echoed in my mind like a cruel joke. My nails dug into the soft leather of my handbag as I stared blankly out the window. Business. That was Kevin’s go-to excuse, and maybe it had worked once. Maybe even twice. But the fifth time? I might have believed previously an

Rhea's POV I needed to move out of the house, despite the fact that it was under my name, I couldn't bear staying with him any longer. When I got home, I started packing my things, however, I hadn't gone far when Kevin came back home, his shirt rumpled and he had the smell of Ginny’s perfume all over him. I scrunched up my nose in disgust when he came into the room. “Why isn't dinner ready yet?” He questioned. “I'm tired. Make it yourself.” Kevin frowned, stomped forward and took my wrist, holding it so tightly that his hands dug into my wrist, “So just because I left you hanging today, are you still mad with me?” My voice cracked, “Tell me something, Kevin, you were with Ginny, weren’t you?” Kevin froze, the cocky glint in his eyes flickering for a brief second before he scoffed and let go of my wrist. “You’re being ridiculous again.” He muttered, turning his back on me, “So what if we went out? She was really upset today, you know how sensitive Ginny gets. I was jus

Rhea's POVKevin has come to his senses? Has he realized how heartless he just was? I hesitated, unsure whether I should give him another chance. A few minutes later, I stood in front of the mirror, fingers hovering over the white colored dress Kevin asked me to wear. It was the same one that I used to wear when they first met, three years ago. Kevin had always said it was that “soft moonlight” look that made him fall for her at first sight. Then Ginny moved in and started buying the same dresses. I glanced at her reflection in the mirror. It was the same white dress but now it felt like a poor imitation. For a few minutes, I was confused on whether to go, or to ignore but despite the fact that I called off the marriage, I just couldn't let go of my feelings, I had loved Kevin for three whole years, so I decided to meet him. By 6, I was standing in the middle of the park, waiting for Kevin to arrive. But time passed. 6:10. 7:00. 8:00. The street lamps flickered one by

Rhea's POV In the distance, the Ferris wheel exploded into a shower of heart-shaped fireworks. My breath caught. It was her birthday. Of course. Kevin must’ve arranged the show, another grand gesture. A pretty, sparkling display to celebrate the girl who had everything, even if it meant someone else had to bleed for it. And that someone was me. I felt cold. Not just on my skin, but deep, in my bones. I was going to die. I knew I had stab wounds all over my body, how I was still alive, I had no idea, but with how cold I was, I knew I was going to die. “GET OFF HER!” A voice roared and my blurred vision flicked toward the sound. I could barely lift my head. Then, everything happened at once. The weight on my back vanished, yanked away by a blur of movement. A sickening crack echoed as someone tackled my attacker to the ground. “Get him!” The same voice said again, panicked this time. I collapsed fully onto the ground, unable to move, pain pulsing through every nerve

Alaric's POV “Watch your mouth, Alaric.” Richard warned, his eyes blazing. “Father, this is the last time I will warn you.” I retorted, walking closer to him and leaning downwards, I whispered to him, “From now on, think of us as rivals, as that company that you do desperately want to yourself, will never be yours. Mark my words, Richard Thorne, your greediness will be your downfall, and I'll make sure of that.” In my past life, I was able to take the company from him, although there were a lot of sacrifices on the way, but this time, none of that would happen. Stepping backwards, I continued, “Grandfather said he wanted to see mom and I, so I'll be taking her along with me. You don't need to ask the servants to prepare dinner, we'll be staying over at Grandfather’s.” I informed him as I walked into my room, shutting the door with a bang. A few seconds after, I could hear the shattering of plates. “Woah, I could literally feel the electricity buzzing around back there.” Natha

Alaric's POV I stared at Rhea until she left the room, my eyes on her frame as she disappeared. After she left, I stood up, walking towards the mirror. There I stood, gazing at my reflection. “This is crazy.” I muttered, raising my hands to touch my face. I was younger, much younger. The years of hardship and working hadn't befallen me yet. I hadn't been betrayed by all the people who left me, and Rhea hadn't died, she was still alive. “Boss! Boss, are you okay?!” A frantic knock came from the door, and someone burst into the room. “Nathan…” I whispered, the face of my best friend who died two months after taking over the inheritance came into view. His shaggy red hair was still as I remembered it, his warm red-brown eyes were filled with confusion. “Hey…” Nathan paused, and then covered his body with his hands, “Why do you look like you want to eat me? I've told you before, I'm not gay so take your playfulness elsewhere.” He said and I deadpanned at him. “Why did you have

Rhea's POV “R… Rhea? You… You're alive?” For a moment, I thought he might have been hallucinating because the raw disbelieving way he said my name made my heart ache. “Um… Do you have me mistaken for someone? I'm alive, I didn't die.” He blinked slowly, as if trying to make sense of reality. His brows furrowed, his lips parting like he wanted to say something, but no words came out. Instead, his hand moved, weakly reaching toward me, almost hesitant, like he was afraid I would disappear if he touched me. I caught it before he could strain himself, my fingers curling gently around his. His skin was clammy, fever-warm, and yet the touch sent a shiver down my spine. “You…” He started, but caught himself. Alaric closed his eyes and shook his head, groaning, “I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else.” He apologised and looked away, “Why are you here?” I narrowed my eyes, “Is that the first thing you say to the person that saved you?” I crossed my arms and huffed at him. “You sav

Rhea's POV “A… Alaric Vale?” I whispered, my jaw dropping. Grunting, I tried rolling him over to the side and promptly froze, it was really him. With trembling hands, I slightly caressed his face, running my fingers down his handsome face. He was younger than the last time I saw him, before I died. I touched his closed eyes, frowning slightly, these eyes that had cried for me despite our relationship, despite my scorn for him and his circumstances, and yet… “Mhm…” He groaned, pain filling his features as he turned his head slightly to the side. He was feeling uncomfortable. But I didn't know what to do! “Okay think, Rhea, think.” I muttered under my breath, shaking my head. I looked around desperately and spotted the bathroom door slightly open. Maybe if I could get him into a cold bath, it would help bring down the effects of the drug. But first, I had to get him there. Somehow. “Alright, big guy.” I huffed, crouching beside him, “You are lucky I'm the one you met.” Bracing my
