I had no idea where my feet were leading me. I left him but I still had a silly hope, maybe he’d realise his mistake and chase me but my hopes died down with passing hours. I roamed aimlessly on the busy streets until the dusk appeared in the sky, enveloping everything in the early darkness. I had no place to call mine in this big city. I had no friends of mine except Liam but I couldn’t go to him or it’d only concrete Sebestian’s doubts on our friendship.
My stomach grumbled. I hadn’t eaten anything since morning and this little life growing inside me needed nutrition. I shuffled my handbag and found only a little amount of money. My pride reborn in a very bad time. I refused to take anything from him when he generously offered me anything I desired for. I could had at least taken some money to survive for a few days.
My phone vibrated in my handbag and my heart leaped thinking it could be Sebestian but when I saw the caller id, my face fell. It was Liam. I wanted to talk to him but I coulnd’t let him know about what Sebestian had done. I ignored it and kept sitting on a corner bench of a park which was mostly deserted and closed my eyes to think about my future without the shield of my husband Sebestian. I gave up my dreams and accepted the role he wanted for me because I loved him blindly and it was my punishment. My future was misty.
I couldn’t go back to my father and step-mother. They cut all their ties with me when Sebestian refused to feed their greed by his hard earned money. I was unwanted in everyone’s life.
“Please, help me. I..I..can’t..breathe.”
I heard a painful whimper and it forced me to look around and spotted an old man sitting on the other bench, he was clutching the left side of his chest, his face was covered in sweat and he was breathing with difficulty. I wasted no time to rush in his direction.
“Hello, Sir. Do you need any help?” I asked him and mentally cursed myself. He was begging for help.
He raised his head to look at me and his eyes widened for a flash of second before he clutched his chest again and his eyes rolled back. He fainted there but I held him before he could fall. Panic travelled through my blood. I quickly called an ambulance and took him to the nearest hospital.
“What is your relation with the patient?” The doctor asked me once they shifted the old man in the emergency ward. He was looking at me suspiciously so did the rest of the hospital staff.
“I found him in the park. He was in the need of urgent medical attention so I called the ambulance because he was all alone there.” I told him the truth but he didn’t look convinced.
“Do you know who he is or you’re just pretending to be an angel for him?” the doctor asked me and I finally lost my patience with him. Instead of treating the old man, he was interrogating like I was a wanted criminal.
“Excuse me but you should be focusing on the patient rather than questioning my humanity instinct. No, I do not know him personally.” I said with a pointed look.
“If you’re claiming to save the richest man in the country then you’re indeed an angel. You helped a man who can change your life forever. You should wait for him to wake up so you can tell him that you just saved him from a minor heart attack which might be life threatening for him if you didn’t rush him here on time.” He said and it was my turn to get shocked. What did he mean by the richest man of the country? I pressed my mind and tried to remember his face. He looked familiar. I had seen him in the business parties from afar.
“Don’t press your brain, Miss. He is the great business tycoon Mr. Carlos Montgomery.” The doctor said and in the next few seconds I saw many guards surrounding the area.
“I can’t believe. It feels like a dream.” I ran my fingers through my hairs. The day started with me finding out about my unexpected pregnancy when the doctors told me that the chances of me getting pregnant again were very less but I conceived the token of our love, accused by my husband of adultery and signed divorce papers. I was homeless when I bumped into the richest man of the country.
Just great!
I didn’t want any more surprises.
“Who brought Mr. Montgomery in the hospital?” A nurse walked out the ICU asking about me.
“It’s me.” I waved my hand and she navigated her way towards me. “He has gained his senses and he’s asking for the girl who saved him and I assume it’s you, Miss?’ She gave me a warm smile.
“He wants to see me?” I asked her in shock.
“Yes and he wants to see you right now.” She informed me.
My heartbeats rose. I helped a man in need and the God was paying me back like this. However, with anxiety brewing inside me, I followed her inside the private ward after the security team gave me a green signal.
The old man who had a regal personality, was laying on the hospital bed. He looked tired but still radiated power.
“How are you feeling now, Mr. Montgomery?” I asked him very cautiously as I couldn’t take the risk of displeasing him since I knew who he was.
He opened his eyes and looked at me. A warm smile stretched on his wrinkled face when he saw me.
“Come here, my dear.” He gestured me to come near him and I found myself obeying him quietly.
“I need a moment alone with this young lady.” He said in a authoritative tone to the doctors and nurses.
“Sure, Sir. We’ll be back to check upon you when you’d be done with your private talk.” They said and left.
I shifted on my spot awkwardly.
“I can’t believe it’s really you, Charlotte, my sweet Lottie.” He addressed me with a nick name I never heard in my entire life and what did he mean?
“Do we know each other?” I blurted out without thinking twice.
“Yes and no.” He replied but it confused me even more.
“I don’t understand, Sir,” I said truthfully.
“Please come and sit here. We need to talk and I want you to stay calm when I tell you how we’re related to each other but I am glad that my search is finally over. You are here, in front of my eyes.” He lifted his shaky hand and placed it over mine.
I felt a connection, a warmth filling me instantly.
“Charlotte, you’re my granddaughter, my only daughter’s child and my heir. I had been looking for you since your mother died and your father seemed to be vanished from the earth’s face but you’re here and I’d not be letting you go away again. From this moment onwards, you’re my legal heir, the owner of a trillion dollars empire.”
As soon as these words left his lips, I was left flabbergasted.
Holy Jesus! I became the richest person in a blink of a moment.
“You’re really my biological mother’s father, my grandpa.” I gasped.
“Yes, Lottie, I am your grandpa and you’re not alone in this world. Your grandmother is waiting for you at our home in our hometown. I will take you away from this place where that bastard of your husband lives. I know what he has done to you and your unborn child. You have my words, Lottie that one day he’ll regret his actions.” He patted my hands but his eyes reflected wrath he had for Sebestian but I was more shocked to learn that he gathered all information including my baby in less than a few hours from a freaking hospital bed.
“Don’t stress yourself, dear and focus on your future. You’re going to lead the Skylark Group in next two years when I’ll take official retirement.” He declared.
[ Sebestian ]I stared at the papers which my wife signed a while ago and felt a strange sensation twisting my heart. I clenched my fists. The woman who once stole my heart, made me fall in love with her on the very first sight, the woman with whom I exchanged holy vows.Charlotte Richards, she agreed to free me from our marriage. She was desperate to leave me so she could be with Liam, her true love and I had been a fool who neve loved me.I felt my heart constricting in my chest. She left a deep void in my heart. My blood boiled when my eyes landed on the pictures that my most trusted PI sent me. They looked mad in love, lost in each other and their chemistry was mocking at me."Bastian, how long will you keep punishing yourself?" Victorine's voice broke the eerie silence of the air."I want to be alone for some time, Vic.I hope you understand." I said quitely. She sighed and placed her hand on my shoulder,"You have to accept, Bastian. She made her decision. I am not trying to turn
[ Charlotte ]The excruciating pain surged through my lower region, I yelped as it became unbearable with passing seconds. The wait of nine months was about to be fruited. I went into labour at the wake of the night and now it had been ten hours, the doctors were waiting for a natural birth but I didn’t think I could do it. I was all alone in the ward.I missed Sebestian, who didn’t try to contact me again. In a corner if my heart, I had a faint hope that he’d somehow find about his baby but with passing time, I gave up the idea of ever seeing my child’s father again.“Ahh..I can’t do it.” I cried as another contraction hit me.“We can’t wait anymore, if we don’t perform C-section now, we fear the baby wouldn’t survive.” The doctors looked at me with pity. They knew about my divorce and also that I had no one except my old grandfather. My blood ran cold upon hearing their words. It was my worst fear since the beginning of my pregnancy. The doctor warned me that it’d be full of complic
[ Sebestian ]Days changed into weeks and weeks into months and months into years but I didn’t hear from Charlotte like she had disappeared from the face of earth. The manor felt like a lifeless place, every corner reminded me of her but I couldn’t stay with my parents either. They weren’t tolerable for more than spending time on dining table.“Bastian, I am calling your name for last five minutes but you’re lost in some other world. What’s the matter with you?” Victorine’s voice reached into my ears, forcing me to divert my attention on her. She looked really pissed off by my lack of response.“I am sorry, Vic. I am just tired. Can you repeat whatever you were saying?” I rubbed my face and tried to focus on the deal we had to discuss. She scoffed and slid a folder in my direction, “I think it’s better if you see it yourself, Bastian.” She said with distaste. Her sour mood reflected how angry she was.I gave her a plain look and opened the folder which definitely contained some bad n
[ Sebestian ] “What is it?” I asked my secretory, James as he placed a silver invitation card on my desk. The young man adjusted his glasses and opened his mouth to speak, he clearly looked intimidated by my presence, “Miss Baxter ordered me to deliver this to you, Sir.” He replied. “How many times do I have to tell you that don’t bring unnecessary stuffs on my desk. Now leave.” I yelled on him. He didn’t waste another second and scurried out of my office. I again looked down at the beautiful card which had the name of the host; Alessandro and Aitana De Niro. I couldn’t miss this party even though I hated being alone during public appearance since I got divorced. Alessandro was a good friend and my presence was mandatory. I opened the card to read it, they were celebrating their 10th anniversary. They threw a charity gala to donate for the orphan children across the globe and it was tonight. “Fuck! Victorine never tells me about these events beforehand.” I muttered and pressed the
[ Charlotte ] I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The woman was looking back at me was no longer the girl who was a puppet in the hands of men but the brain behind a billion dollars empire unchallenged in the IT sector and now we were about to step in the construction business. We got our maiden project by the government and by defeating Blackwood Corp. Charlotte Montgomery, that’s what people would call me after tonight. Grandpa’s dream would come true in next few hours. Tonight, I’d reveal my identity to the world and tell them that it had not been Jonathan but I, who took the Skylark Group on the zenith. “Mommy, see, how am I looking?” Son’s cute voice reached into my years and it forced me to turn to him. A wide smile stretched on my lips by looking at my young man who wore a black suit and a shirt matching my champagne red dress. My heart again clenched. He looked exact like his father as he grew up, a constant reminder of the man whom I desperately want to forget. “You
[ Sebestian ]“Why the hell are we even here? This party is nothing but an extravagant pomp and show of wealth. We won’t gain anything except to devour the expensive wine. You are going to pay for this prank, Victorine.” I whispered to Victorine in annoyance. I was running thin on my patience. The party was as boring as the others I attended. I knew most of the guests and talking business with them or answering them on the unexpected defeat by the hands of their host had worn me out mentally. Why people judge one by his one failure despite a thousand success before? The answer I knew.“Have some patience, Bastian. The CEO is coming in our way only. Let’s confront him. He can’t walk away with what’s ours.” She whispered back.Jonathan Carter, who was greeting his guests, turned towards our table. The smile on his face irked me.“It’s my pleasure to host the two most important brains behind the most successful construction company in the country.” He said to both I and Victorine or I sh
[ Charlotte ]The endless cue of receiving greetings from my guests, mostly wrapped in surprise and envy, my eyes searched for the Blackwoods, who were yet to meet me. I knew them. After spending three years with them, I knew one thing about them, they’d not let this success crown on my head.My wait seemed to fruit as Mrs. Blackwood sauntered in my direction with a flute of champagne in her hand. She still managed to ageless even in her late fifties except a few fine lines near her eyes.“Congratulations on the way, Ms. Montgomery. I am shocked to see you after a very very long time.” She smiled at me, her thin lips curved upward. I couldn’t comprehend whether it was a compliment or a pun.“Mrs. Blackwood, it’s very nice to see you after a very long time. Green is your colour.” I complimented her matching her eyes, she wanted to see the same scary girl in me who couldn’t speak properly in her presence. Her brows twitched, she indeed looked amused and somewhat displeased.“May I know
[ Sebestian ]The blood in my veins boiled as the filthy bastard snaked his arm around her shoulder and she was actually comfortable with him but my touch was making her feel awkward a while ago. The masculine ego inside me revoked, this woman belonged to me, married or divorced.“Why would I molest my own wife, Mr. Carter?” I smirked unaware of the blunder I just spat out and saw her body turning stiff.“Mr. Blackwood, I think you’re crossing your line here. My friend doesn’t have a husband.” Jonathan spoke in her behalf which worked as a fuel in the blazing jealousy.“She was once my wife, Jonathan and we had a very passionate marriage but it’d be very inappropriate of me to share the details with you. Let us have a word in private. I’ll free her in a few minutes.” I said as calmly as I could despite the fact that I was desperate to smash his face and break his arms into pieces.“I am sorry but I can’t stay here, Mr. Blackwood. This is my party and Montgomery family is well known fo
[ Arienna Blackwood ]"Don't run, Aria. Mom is tired and she wants a hug from her princess." I shouted and heard soft giggles of my five years old daughter from behind the curtains.A smile stretched over my lips as I spotted her shadow. She was the source of light in my life whom I found during my trip to Mexico and instantly fell in love with two years old orphan who was abandoned by her birth mother at an orphanage. It took me an year of struggle and legal procedure to adopt her officially and bring her to home."Mom got you." I grabbed her and tickled her.The little girl wriggled to get out of my hold while laughing. I showered her pretty face with kisses."Stop Mama, it's ticklish." She pushed my face away."No, Mama wants a cuddle with Aria." I pulled her on my lap and hugged her."I am angry on you, Mama. You promised to come back early but you're two days late." She pouted with grumpy face."I am sorry baby but you know my work. I am the CEO and it's mandatory for me to be
[ Arianna Blackwood ]"Anna.."Rafael's low voice rang into my ears. So, this man can also feel remorse!"Come and sit, Rafael. We need to talk on certain matters." I said in a flat tone."Please, let's just sit together and-" He tried to say something but I showed him my palm."I do not want to spend even a single moment with you, Mr. Martinez but we must clear a few things before we part our ways." I finally shot my blank eyes at him.He looked vulnerable, his eyes were puffy and red. By judging his appearance, I bet he hadn't been resting properly."Please, Arienna. Don't do this. It was my fault. Our baby died because of me." He said in a croaked tone, I observed his adam's apple bobbing up and down."It was my baby. It doesn't give you any right to call it yours just because you fucked me for once." I snapped at him, the bottled up anger and resentment was threatening to spill. He lowered his gaze and shook his head, "Alright, I won't. Please, calm down. We can talk once you get
[ Arianna Blackwood ]It's been four days.Four long days since I lost my baby, the last hope of my future. I am stoll trying to accept this news but my heart denies my loss. My lower body aches every time I move or shift, a constant reminder of my cruel fate.I don't deserve happiness since my birth. Why does God punish me? What did I do to deserve only grief and misfortunes in my life?"Ari, my princess." Dad's soft voice forced me to pull out of my mourning solicitude."Dad."I barely whispered as mu throat was constricted due to crying for hours since doctor broke the devastating news to me. I predicted my loss when I felt the pain during my argument with Rafael but a part of me hoped for a miracle to happen."I have brought your dinner. It's your mother's home cooked recipe, one of your favourite dishes and healthy." He placed a tiffin box on the table. He was trying to cheer me up. That's all my family could do, they stood like a pillar around me. They're my everything and I'd f
[ Rafael ]I have been waiting for two long hours, still no words from the hospital staff how Arienna is doing after miscarriage. Yes, the doctors declared the baby dead as soon as they admitted her and they had to perform emergency surgery to remove the dead fetus.Arienna lost too much blood which caused her to lose her consciousness for a long time.Miscarriage, a simple word with eleven syllables but it has so much pain and shattered hopes within it's depth. It has the power to bring even the bravest heart at the bottom.I lost my child, my first child despite several warnings from the doctors. Yet I let her go through the trauma, not once, not twice but everytime we talked. She's right, I killed our baby. I don't deserve it call it mine because Arienna tried her best to be there for our baby but I was busy hitting my head on the wall of past. I became so mad that her pain got unnoticed by me."How dare you?"A voice roared and I got punched on my face, it was a hard blow. I stumb
[ Arianna Blackwood ]After my conversation with my mother, I found myself drowning into more conflict. I couldn't live with Rafael as long as he keeps harboring hatred and vendetta against my family, on the other hand, I was drawn to my husband.I was screwed and back to square one."Anna, you're back?"Rafael's surprised voice reached into my ears and I turned around to find him standing at the threshold of main door."Yes, I guess. Sorry, if you're disappointed to see me here. Well, I won't take long. I came here to talk on certain matters." I said in a clipped tone. His features softened. He rushed towards me and grabbed my shoulders, "I don't want you to leave, not now not never, Anna. I can't imagine my life without you, my love. Please, forgive me. I am ready to talk to your parents if it makes you feel better." He sounded vulnerable and desperate.I detatched myself from him and looked away."Let's talk, Rafael. I don't want us to live in continuous uncertainties." I said in a
[ Arienna Blackwood ]"Mom, I want a divorce with Rafael. I don't think this marriage would work. I am sorry I didn't think wisely when I decided to marry him." I said to my mother who was calmly sipping her coffee. She didn't look affected by my decision, instead, she poured some in my cup."Please, say something, Mom. Your opinion matters to me the most." I gave her a pleading look."You want my honest opinion?" She finally looked up at me while placing her cup down on the table.I nodded my head in impatience. She pinched the bridge of her nose, "Are you afraid of the boy you once knew, who cared for you a lot or the man who is blind in vengeance. It's your take?" She asked me and I was left shocked."How..how..do you know?" I couldn't find proper words to ask her how did she know everything about Noah."I am your mother, Ari. Of course, I know everything about my children. I wouldn't have let you marry him if I didn't know about your groom. I ran a background check on Rafael and i
[ Rafael Martinez ]"You didn't have to take a stand for me. I can fight my own battles and it wasn't the first time my grandmother bullied me. She has always been like this. I thought you'd of all people would understand her nature." Arienna said curtly over the dining table.I gave her a blank look. She was only playing with the food on the plate."I had to show her that she can't boss around in my house and demean my wife." I replied. I heard suck a deep breath. "I am sorry for the morning. I shouldn't have said those things." I said after a momentary silence. We were back to square one because she didn't respond and resumed eating small portions from her plate."We're inviting your parents tomorrow at the breakfast. I don't want to live this cat and mice life anymore." I said."Don't drag my parents in your dirty games, Rafael. I will deal with them." She said in a flat tone and stood up."Finish your food, Anna. You can't ignore your health." I reminded her and our eyes met for
[ Rafael Martinez ]Arianna's outburst kept replaying in my mind like a record. Her eyes reflected her sedimentated anger and hatred for me and it broke my heart to see those emotions in her eyes. I made her hate me even more and probably ruined my every chances to be with her. She'll not stay quiet and tell her family about my identity and about my parents. "Come on, son. Are you going to say something or sit here like a stone statue. I know something has happened. This red mark on your face is telling a lot." My father said, his eyes were darted on my cheek.I touched the stinging area and looked away. "She's a poison in your life, Noah. Why are you with her? You're successful and young. You will find a thousand women at your disposal if you go for a bride hunt. Just leave her. You will get your child. I trust you." Mom again repeated the same dialog."Mom, please, I'm already frustrated and clueless. Yesterday, Charlotte Blackwood confronted me and it's not wrong either. She hel
[ Arianna Blackwood ] I sipped the ginger tea, enjoying the ghostly silence of the living room. The weather was still bad, the downpour changed into soft drizzle but the sky was grey and gloomy depicting my own mood. I heard footsteps. I recognized them so I sat unbothered and sipped the tea. "Good morning." I heard his grosggy voice. "Good morning," I wished him back curtly but didn't spare him a glance. "A cup of coffee please!" He yelled to his staff and sat across me. I stole a glance at him, he was in a t shirt and trousers. "I am sorry, the last night was unintentional. I never get this much drunk often unless I'm frustrated." He kept talking but I only listened. I remained quiet. "Look, if you're intentionally ignoring me then it won't work, Arianna. We can't go like this." He said in a little frustrated voice. Meanwhile, his coffee was served. "I am not in a mood to talk. I hope you understand." I said without looking up. "Alright, take your time to sort out your moo
