Jaxon's test

I held back the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes. I had sworn to myself not to show any sign of pain at Jaxon’s words, but it seemed I was presently doing a bad job at it.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

"I appreciate your concern Alex, I replied, my tone steady even though I didn't feel okay. Whatever is going on here is my choice and you have to respect that. Jaxon and I will take care of our personal affairs.”

Jaxon was silent, all the while staring intently at me,like he wanted to know what was on my mind. His face, a conflicting range of emotions - mockery, joy and something else I couldn't quite detect. I was sure he wanted to ask questions….. maybe why the sudden change in my emotions as we had agreed on a no love arrangement so I guess he was right to have made that statement….. I didn't even understand why I felt the way I did.

As the atmosphere in the room calmed, I felt the weight of the situation weigh in again. I was overwhelmed
