Mirabelle's POV:

I stared at the documents, letters and photographs sprawled out on the table before me, my fingers trembling as I flipped through each page again. The weight of betrayal sat heavily on my chest. Noah had done this—plotted, schemed, and orchestrated my downfall. But why? To what end? My head throbbed with a mixture of anger and despair.

Confronting him now would only tip him off, and I couldn't risk that. If I am going to win this fight, I need to be smarter. I can't just react emotionally. No, this is my chance to play by his rules and beat him at his own game.

This is my fight!

I glanced down at the papers again. Samuel's involvement in Noah’s schemes was undeniable, but was he truly repentant? Or was this just another tactic in their game?

I picked up my phone and dialed Officer Carter’s number. He answered on the second ring.

“Mrs. Sylvester.” His voice was clipped. “What can I do for you?”

“I need to meet with you.” I said, keeping my tone calm despite the

Mirabelle's POV:The board’s spokesman, a middle-aged man named Mr. Jenson, cleared his throat. “Mrs. Sylvester, we’ve received evidence that you’ve been involved in illegal activities—both abroad and here. It’s alleged that you’ve been acquiring shares and companies through illegal means.”“That’s absurd!” I exclaimed.“There's evidence, Mrs Sylvester. Enough evidence to back up the rumors.” Mr. Jenson countered. Sighing, I asked. “What evidence could you possibly have?”A woman at the table tossed an envelope toward me. “See for yourself.”I opened it, my stomach twisting as I pulled out photographs and documents of call recordings. The documents showed threats of violence, coercion, even blackmail involving a child.“This is ridiculous!’ I exclaimed sharply.“These are all fabricated, these are all lies meant to discredit me. Who is responsible for this madness?” I said, slamming the papers on the table. “Someone is framing me.”“Mrs. Sylvester.” Mr. Jenson began. “Several members

Mirabelle's POV:I was about to speak when one of the board members interrupted me. “Mrs. Sylvester.” He said, his voice icy. “It would be wise for you to step down as chairman. Sell off your shares, leave the country, and save us all further embarrassment.”His words hung in the air like a death sentence. “And if I don’t?” I asked, my voice calm despite the storm raging inside me.“Then we’ll have no choice but to pursue legal action against you.” He said, his lips curling into a smirk. “You’d spend the rest of your life behind bars, and frankly, we’d prefer that outcome.”A nod of agreement passed through the room. I looked around at the faces of people I had once trusted—now filled with anger and hatred. “You’re all jumping to conclusions without giving me a chance to defend myself.” I remarked. “I have done nothing illegal. This is a coordinated attack to discredit me.”“Is that so?” Mrs. Patel snapped. “And what about the news reports? Are those fabricated too? Your reputation is

Mirabelle's POV:I felt flushed, caught off guard by how much care Ken was showing me. It wasn’t like him to be so thoughtful, not the Ken I remembered, at least. Clearing my throat, I decided to break the silence. “Why did Michelle leave?” I asked, trying to steer the conversation to safer grounds. He glanced at me, pausing as he cracked an egg into the sizzling pan. “She didn’t leave...” He said casually. “I kicked her out.”The answer stunned me. My brows furrowed as I set the coffee mug he’d poured me down on the counter. “You… kicked her out?”He nodded without looking up from his cooking. “Yeah.”“Why?” I pressed, unsure if I even wanted to know.He finally turned to face me, leaning against the counter, his arms crossed. “I guess I finally understood that if I wanted to start something new with you, I needed to let go of the past. And that past was Michelle.”The room seemed to freeze around me, his words settled deep in my chest. I didn’t know why, but I felt a flicker of happ

Mirabelle's POV:“Ken.” I whispered, my voice weak.He turned me around to face him, his hands resting on my hips. His eyes searched mine, and slowly, he leaned in, his lips inching closer to mine.Fear shot through me. At the last second, I shoved him aside, grabbing my bag and keys. “I’m sorry.” I blurted out, my voice shaky. “I can’t do this.”Before he could respond, I bolted out of the house, running to my car. My hands trembled as I fumbled with the keys, finally getting inside and slamming the door shut. I drove away as fast as I could, my mind racing.“How could you let him touch you?” I scolded myself aloud, gripping the steering wheel tightly. “The same man who ruined you! You should be clearing your name, putting Noah behind bars, not… not hooking up with Ken.”But no matter how much I yelled at myself, his words and his touch lingered in my mind.As I pulled into the driveway, a wave of relief washed over me. The reporters were gone. The house looked quiet, just the way I

Mirabelle's POV:“Grandpa?” I exclaimed, my voice louder than I intended. “What the hell—why are you out here so late?”Edward Sylvester, with his ever-calm demeanor, tilted his head toward me from his seat. Even in the dim light, his eyes carried the same warmth that had always comforted me, though they now looked undeniably weary.“I couldn’t sleep.” He said simply, with his hands resting over his cane.“You couldn’t sleep, so you decided to sit here in the dark and scare the life out of me?” I asked, trying to sound annoyed, though the relief that it was just him, and not my mind playing tricks, was already flooding through me.He let out a soft chuckle, the kind that felt like a soothing balm over my tired nerves. “I wasn’t trying to scare you, dear. I was thinking.”“Thinking?” I echoed, crossing the room and lowering myself into the chair opposite him. “About what?”He exhaled deeply, leaning back into his seat as if the weight of his thoughts was heavier than the air between us

Mirabelle’s POV:Not after everything I’d discovered. Twenty-four calls couldn’t erase the lies, the manipulation, or the damage he’d caused. Still, a strange unease settled over me as I put the phone down, shaking my head.Ken’s name caught my eye again, and without thinking, I tapped his number. As the phone rang, I silently prayed he’d still be awake. He picked up on the third ring. “Mirabelle?” His voice was groggy but alert.“Hey.” I said, forcing a calm tone.“Everything okay?” He asked quickly.“Yeah, I’m fine. I just… I saw I missed your calls and thought I’d check in.”Ken let out a soft sigh. “I wasn’t sure if you’d call back. I didn’t want to bother you, but I couldn’t sleep without apologizing.”“Apologizing?” I frowned. “For what?”“For earlier.” He said, his voice filled with regret. “I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable when you came over. That wasn’t my intention at all.”“Ken…”“Let me finish.” He interrupted gently. “The reason I brought you over wasn’t to ta

Noah's POV:The quiet hum of the hotel air conditioner filled the room as I stared at my phone. Another call unanswered. I sighed, leaning back on the plush chair in frustration. "Come on, Mirabelle." I muttered under my breath. "Pick up the damn phone."It has been over 30 fucking hours since we last spoke, and the growing silence between us made me irritated. I had called her more times than I cared to count—twenty, maybe even thirty. Each unanswered ring felt like another stone in my chest, dragging me down.My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. Startled, I straightened up. “Who is it?”“It’s me, Natasha.” Her familiar voice called from the other side.Natasha? What the hell was she doing here so late? I crossed the room quickly and opened the door. Natasha stood there, looking unusually grim. Her expression made my stomach twist.“What’s wrong?” I asked. She stepped inside, glancing around nervously. “You need to see this, Noah.” She handed me a tablet, which was al

Mirabelle's POV: The bathroom mirror was fogged up, beads of water clinging to the surface as I stepped out, wrapping myself in a soft towel. I sat at the dressing table, absently smoothing lotion onto my arms. My reflection stared back at me—tired eyes, pale skin, and lips pressed into a thin line. Who is this woman? A soft chime interrupted my thoughts. My phone lit up on the table, and I froze. A notification. Reaching for it, I hesitated. The screen displayed Noah’s name and his message: “I’m on my way to the airport. I just saw the news.” What the hell? My hand tightened around the phone. Of all times, why now? I wasn’t ready to face him. He can't find out yet—not until I gathered enough evidence to expose him. Not until I am able to make him pay for all the lies, all the deceit. But can I truly do it? Can I really put the father of my children behind bars? My chest tightened at the thought. How would I explain it to the kids? Mika would be devastated. Tyler—he idoli

CHAPTER 109. Noah's POV. My heart stilled and the feeling inside me was burning. I didn't know how to describe the hurt I felt, looking at this picture. It felt like my whole world shattered just at the glance of one fucking picture. Just one fucking picture. This was so fucking tiring, why did I keep getting hurt like this? The words from when I was young started echoing. “You can never be loved, your mother even left you, so who's a stranger to love you?” The words of my step mother seeped in slowly as everything started to look like a black out. I stared at the picture, Mira, my own Mira was in the picture, locking lips with Ken. My mortal enemy. Did she always have feelings for him? Has she always wanted to go back to him all these years? We even have kids, she had kids for me and she told me she loved me so many fucking times. Was that all a lie? Did she just see me as a safe space for her and her children?I felt moisture rolling down my cheeks and I raised my hand up w

Noah's POV. “What?” I exclaimed, leaning forward to my laptop in disbelief. The private investigator I hired some days ago, was here now, telling me a whole bunch of things that I didn't understand properly. His words hang in the air like a suffocating cloud, making it too hard to breathe. “Noah,” He says, his voice calm, but firm. “I've uncovered something's, but you're not going to like them.”I grip the edge of the table, my knuckles white. “Just tell me, stop beating around the bush.” I told him, because I needed to hear the whole information so I would know what to do about it. “And it's Mr Sylvester.” I added. I didn't like anybody that wasn't close to me calling me by name. Hence, the reason I had to assert the use of my father's name. That was more formal, and we were in a formal setting. “I'm sorry about that, Mr Sylvester. I'll take note of that from now on.” He said and I nodded. Urging him to continue. “Natasha Banks, your childhood friend was the one behind all th

Mirabelle's POV. “He was the one that set the fire.” Morgan revealed. The room spun like a hundred times in a row. I gripped the edge of the desk, my nails digging into the wood. “No that doesn't make any sense at all, Samuel is loyal to Noah. He has always been loyal. He wouldn't–he couldn't–”“He didn't have a choice.” Morgan cut in, his voice heavy. “What do you mean he didn't have a choice? Was he forced?” It almost came out sarcastically as a tear rolled down my cheeks. “Natasha forced him, she held his wife and unborn child hostage. So it would make her record clear. He only did it to protect them.” Morgan said. “But he could have come to me or to Noah at that. We would have done something about it.” I said. “Yes he could have, but not when he had a wire tap on him, and Natasha could hear anything he was doing. She also had a bomb strapped to his wife, so it was his only chance.” Morgan explained. How many things did I know and how many things didn't I know. I thought I

Mirabelle's POV. The afternoon sun streamed through the floor to ceiling windows of my office. Casting golden streaks across the polished oak desk. I sat stiffly in my chair, my fingers gripping the armrests as if they were the only things keeping me tethered from reality. My chest still heaved slightly from the confrontation with the board, the adrenaline refusing to subside. A knock on the door made me glance up. Susie peeked her head in, looking cautious. “Mrs Sylvester, there's a call for you. It's from someone named Morgan.” she said softly, her voice almost trembling. I straightened, the tension in my body coiling tighter. “Put him through.” I told her. She nodded and quickly retreated, I would have liked to ask why she has been acting weird since the boardroom but there were important matters to attend to right now. A second later, the phone on my desk buzzed, I reached for it, my heart pounding as I pressed the speaker button. “Mrs Sylvester, it's Morgan.” the investi

Mirabelle's POV. The moment I stepped into the boardroom, a deafening silence descended like a shroud, all eyes turned towards me, wide with surprise and just a tinge of fear. I could feel the tension crackling in the air as I stood at the head of the table, hands on my hips, my smile never faltering. “Good morning.” I said sweetly, my voice cutting through the silence like razor. “I trust everybody slept well, considering you're all here conspiring against me first thing in the morning.”No one responded immediately. Typical. “Well,” I pressed, my gaze sweeping across the room, “Am I to assume that cat got everyone's tongue, or is this just your pathetic attempt at playing dumb?”“Mrs Sylvester.” A portly man near the middle of the table began hesitantly. It was Mr Armstrong, the supposed head of the board and someone I had barely tolerated since the company began to grow. “This isn't what it looks like….”“Save it.” I interrupted sharply. Raising a hand to silence him. “I'm not

Mirabelle's POV The news about Natasha being the one behind the rumors didn't leave my mind; even by the next morning, I was on my way to work, and that was all I could think about. I mean, it wasn't that deep; if she really wanted my husband, seeing as Noah wanted her too, the least they could do was have each other and leave me out of the picture. What was the need to ruin me along the way? That was what I didn't understand. “Mrs Sylvester, we are here already.” My driver announced, and I came out of my reverie; I didn't even realize that the car had come to a stop already. “Thank you, Raymond.” I thanked the chauffeur. Honestly, I didn't know the courage that brought me to work this morning; maybe part of the reason was that I already knew who was behind this, and I suddenly had that courage that I could pull through this without going under. “Are you sure about this, Mrs Sylvester? The paparazzi are everywhere and won't let you have an easy day.” Raymond shared his concerns

Mirabelle's POV.I stared at the phone in my hand, my heart hammering against my ribcage. The number on the screen wasn't saved, but I recognized it; it was the private investigator I had hired after my conversation with Grandpa Ed. For some weird reason, I was scared to pick up the call. It has been twenty-four hours since I got his number and explained the situation to him, and he told me that the next time he called me, he would have an answer. That time was now, and I was scared as fuck. I really shouldn't be scared because this information was important to me; it would help me know the people around me because I just had that feeling that somebody close to me was behind the whole rumor that had been going on about me. The wine I took from earlier churned uncomfortably in my tummy. I took a deep breath and answered. Well, here goes nothing. I thought as I placed the phone to my ear. “Hello.” “Mrs Sylvester?” He asked in a deep baritone voice. “Yes, you're on to me,” I repl

Noah's POV. The evening sky outside my office window was painted in hues of orange and pink, yet I found no comfort in its beauty. Shanghai’s vibrant and alive skyline felt more like a glided cage. I leaned back in my chair, staring at the phone. My fingers hitched to call her again. But I hesitated. I've left over a hundred missed calls the last few days, and she never willingly calls me back. I only see my wife's face when we speak to our children. Lately, every conversation with Mira had felt strained. Her words were curt, her tone distant. I'd replayed our last exchange countless times, dissecting every word, every pause and sigh. “Don't pretend you don't know what you did.” She said when we talked last. But I can't find anything in my brain that warranted the attitude I got from her. It hurt me because I've fucked up many times, but she kept coming back to me, and now I didn't even know what I did. How could I even comfort her when I was thousands of miles away, tethered to

CHAPTER HUNDRED. Mirabelle's POV. I sat at the edge of my bed, gripping my knees tightly, the sound of my children giggling with their father over the laptop carried through the walls. But it only intensified the ache in my chest; why was this so hard? Why couldn't I make sense of what I wanted anymore? I didn't want whatever was going on between Noah and me to affect the relationship with our children, but it seemed I was heading in that direction, and I wanted to stop it. God knows I want Noah so fucking much; he was there for me when Ken and my sister did me dirty, and Noah gave me no space to be miserable, but what was I supposed to do now that I realised that he was the same as his stepbrother, my ex-husband?After all, they were blood brothers. I wish to control my emotions and not feel anything, but unfortunately, that can't be done. The door creaked open, and Mika’s head popped in, her curls bouncing. “Mummy, daddy said he loves you.”She said with the kind of certainty
