CHAPTER 01: COLD EYES

"Hurry up, Evelyn"

"One minute" That was all she could say with her mouth full.

"You should have woken up early today."

"Mom, why are you worried? Ava will wake up later than me and then it will take time her to get re-"

She had not even finished speaking when the front door started banging loudly.

"Hurry up, I don't want to be late on the first day today. Me and dad are waiting in the car."

She informed in a high voice and sat back in the car.

"It seems like she woke up early today."

Evelyn looked away from her parents and said in a whisper. Then she put two more bites in her mouth and hung the bag on her shoulder.

"Do your breakfast calmly, I will drop you in college." His father saw her getting up like this and said.

"No, dad, we had taken a promise that we will go to college together."

Evelyn said goodbye to both of them and ran outside where her childhood friend Ava was waiting for her in the car with her father.

"How are you uncle?"

"I'm fine, how are you?"

"We are excited, dad."

Ava spoke before Evelyn and then they both started laughing.

After all, now she was stepping into college life by saying goodbye to school life.

Both of them had many dreams.

"You remember everything I explained, Ava." Arthur began to make his daughter pay attention to him.

"Yes, dad, why are you worried?"

"You will not do any mischief there and you Evelyn... You will never cover them up."

"Yes uncle."

Evelyn started smiling and Ava rolled her eyes.

After dropping both of them at the gate of the college, he said goodbye and went to his office.

"Wow, can you smell that, Evelyn?

As soon as Ava crossed the gate, she spread her arms like an actress in a movie.

"What smell? I don't smell anything." She started asking with a frown on her forehead.

"Hey crazy. This is the smell of freedom."

She jumped and started to say, Evelyn laughed. Other students coming through the gate would give them a glance and then ignore them.

"Come on Ava. Enough of your dramas. We are already late and we still have to find classes."

She grabbed Ava by the arm and started pulling her. At the same time, she collided with a strong being, but instead of stopping and looking, she hurriedly apologized and ran away from there with Ava.

Someone had watched her walk away with interest.

Ava was clapping and cheering as if Evelyn was running for the Olympics, not the Test.

Her soft cheeks started to turn red with embarrassment, but Ava was shouting the same way.

Many other girls were also included with her who had come for the running test.

As soon as the coach counted to three and then whistled, they all ran at full speed.

They had to complete three laps and Evelyn was in second place. Some girls had given up even during the race.

After the race was over, she bent down with her hands on her knees and started breathing deeply.

After a minute, her breathing and heartbeat started coming back to their normal pace.

Now they only had to wait for the results to see if they will be selected for the college team.

"Hey, you ran pretty well."

The girl who came first in the competition with Evelyn started to introduce herself.

"But not better than you."

She also started saying while smiling.

"By the way, my name is Emma."

"I am Evelyn and this is my friend Ava."

She started introducing herself and Ava. The three of them stood there talking for some time when their coach drew them to him.

Emma, Evelyn and two more girls were placed in their college team.

The joy of all this was clearly visible on Evelyn's face. She had been racing on tracks since childhood, but still lost to Emma by a few seconds.

She had to improve her timing.

"Regular practice will start from tomorrow. You guys will come here after taking all your classes, you can all go now."

"Yes sir"

All the girls picked up their bags and started moving towards the gate.

On her way to the gate, her eyes fell on the boys' team who were doing full practice.

"If your practice will be after all the classes are over, how will we go home?" Ava drew her attention to an important issue.

"No problem, you can leave early from tomorrow. I will tell dad and he will come to pick me up."

Evelyn herself told the solution to the problem.

"But how will uncle come from such far away?"

Her father's office was far away, due to which Ava's father took the duty of bringing her to college and dropping her off.

"Why are you worried, Mom will come to pick me up."

She was talking to Ava when her attention fell on someone sitting on the other side of the ground.

He was sitting alone and lost in his own world, feeling the eyes of someone on him, he shifted his gaze from his book to the person in front of him. When his gaze fell on her, Evelyn became terrified and immediately turned her gaze to the other side.

On her return, she spent her first day's activities in the presence of her mother.

In the evening, her father took her and his wife for an outing.

After coming back, she was so tired that she fell asleep on her bed.

Being the only child of her parents, she was always the center of their attention.

And proper training did not cause any deterioration in her health.

The next day she woke up on time on the alarm bell and then got ready and started waiting for Ava.

"Today is your first day and I am your psychology teacher. Now let's all introduce ourselves and then we will talk more."

Miss Olivia was saying to her new students with glasses stuck on her nose.

All the boys and girls started saying their names. Ava and Evelyn also introduced themselves like others.

When everyone was introduced, Miss Olivia started drawing their attention towards her again.

"Since this is a psychology class, you will definitely enjoy reading this subject. But if you don't understand anything, you can refer to me or my assistant. Now I would like to introduce you to Sebastian who is an M.Phil student and is working on his project in our college. Apart from this, he is also providing his services as an assistant."

She pointed to the back corner of the class and started saying.

That person was sitting so quietly and isolated that no one noticed his presence.

Seeing all the students looking at him, he raised his head from the laptop and his eyes met Evelyn sitting in the middle of the class.

She felt as if she had reached an icy area, so cold was his eyes.

A strange wave rose in her body, the reason of which she did not understand.

The opponent freed her from the charm of his eyes and then stood up.

"If any student wants any help in this subject, he can approach me."

He sat down and again engaged in his work.

"He is so handsome."

Ava started whistling as per her habit. Evelyn glared at her.

That man looked at her as if he had heard what Ava had said, but how could this possible when he was far away from her.

Evelyn panicked and turned her face towards the front again, but she was constantly feeling the heat of his eyes on her.

"Good. Good. Good. One More Lap Girls."

She ignored her ragged breath and began to take another round.

As soon as the lap was completed, she slowed down and then stopped.

She wiped the sweat on her face with a towel and took a deep breath and opened her high ponytail and started doing it again.

"That's enough for today. Now you can all go home."

The coach gave permission and they all left from there saying goodbye to each other.

Her track was at the last corner of the college. Being behind the building, she could easily do her practice.

It was still half an hour before Evelyn's dad came to pick her up, so she was in no hurry like the others.

She took a deep breath and sat on her knees next to her bag. She started to see the stopwatch on her wrist. She needed to improve her time by six to seven seconds.

She took out water from the bag and started sipping it. When she felt someone's eyes on her.

She looked around but she was alone there. Suddenly, at a sound, she turned around with an expression of fear, but did not see anything.

Now she was afraid of being alone there, so she started to pick up her bag, when a wild kitten suddenly came out from among the plants.

At first she jumped in fear, but then she laughed at herself and then started moving towards this beautiful animal.

"Here. Come here, kitty."

She extended her hand and the cat was looking at her hand.

"Be careful"

At a sound, she jumped at once.

Looking back, the same man in the psychology class was now some distance away from her.

Evelyn was scared to see him like this but did not let her fear show on her face.

"Wild animals are dangerous."

He looked at her with those cold eyes and said. Evelyn ignored him and started walking towards the cat.

How can such a beautiful animal be dangerous?

She ignored his warning and stood with the cat in her lap.

"See, nothi-

She was not even able to finish the sentence when the animal bit Evelyn's hand badly and then jumped and ran away from her.

She screamed badly due to the pain.

Blood started flowing from her hand. She could not understand how to stop this blood.

"Show me"

Sebastian quickly moved towards her and took Evelyn's hand.

To stop the bleeding, he put his mouth on her wound and on his action, she froze there.

It took a few moments for Evelyn to regain her senses. She pulled her hand with a jerk.

"What are you doing?

She ran towards the bag without hearing his answer. She put it on her shoulder and ran away from there.

During all this, she did not look back at him once.

If she had seen, she would have been more scared to see the smirk on his face.

He was watching her go away.

Evelyn's blood was still on his lips, which he cleaned with the help of his tongue.

When she came to the front of the building, she slowed down. She took out a handkerchief from the bag and wrapped it around her hand.

"What a dirty person he was."

She shuddered thinking about his actions.

She walked slowly towards the gate. The entire college was empty.

Few staff members were there who were in their respective offices.

She started waiting for her father in the waiting area near the gate.

After some time, she again felt as if someone was staring at her.

She started looking around but no one was there.

"This is just your illusion, Evelyn."

She was contented by reprimanding herself in her heart.
