Chapter 6— She'll continue working

“You do not get the right to kiss me without my permission,” Calvin's irritated voice rang in my ears as soon as I closed the car door and I turned to him at once.

“Really? I do not get to kiss you? Are you a God or something?” Anger laced my voice at how unbothered he stared into space.

Everybody was staring.

While that man, Jayden or whatever, talked, everyone had their eyes on us and were waiting to see if he was right and I did what I thought was best.

But it's this man I did it for. What did I think? He was going to think he's a god.

“It was stated in the contract. You don't get to touch me without my permission. Talk more about kissing me. And especially in front of the crowd.”

“Understood,” I gritted and leaned into the car, “And I hope you stick to it,” and with that, I grabbed my earpods from the purse and my music accompanied me until we were home

As soon as the car stopped in the compound, I was out. “You are here,” Lorraine smiled as soon as I entered the room and I crashed to the sofa at once.

“Yes, it was just for the media,” I replied as I thought about the whole event. After I kissed Calvin, the whole group of people cheered for us and after they gave one of thousands of pieces of information that I had no business with and then the meeting was over.

It was more of a formal event than a fun one.

“Where's Calvin? Didn't he—” Lorraine wanted to ask before the door opened revealing Calvin and he got in, his face expressionless.

As soon as he was out of sight, Lorraine turned to me, “Did something happen?”

“Yeah, I kissed him to make it look real. To help me,” I laid emphasis on the last word, “And he's pissed about it. I should be the angry one here. For being called his wife.”

“Oh dear,” Lorraine walked to me and sighed, “he repels women's touches.”

“Then why the hell did get married to me?”

“It's not his fault, he just—”

“Yeah, it's mine. For trying to help him out. Who cares about whatever reputation he has to keep anyway,” anger laced my voice before I stood and before Lorraine could say another word, I was heading for my room and as I pushed the door open, my lips hung open in surprise.

The bed has been pushed to the right side like I always wanted. It's been that way since I found peace in watching the stars. All the colour pink has been replaced with something more darkly feminine much to my taste.

And the fact that Lorraine got all of this with just the picture of my former room that I showed her in the morning. Oh, how good she is.

Probably working for Logan's family had her that way.

Satisfied with the room's arrangement, I headed to the bathroom tentatively and peeping in, relief flooded my chest seeing only a shower was in. Lorraine really has gotten rid of the bathtub.

Now, I have a complete room. Married to a Billionaire and now known as his wife, the duties have been fulfilled. Now, I should think of myself.

Firstly I have to discuss with Calvin. About my job.

————

“Wow, I didn't know this existed,” I told Lorraine as I plucked a flower. Its fragrance dissolved in my nostrils. “I thought the house had no garden,” I added.

It was evening and after communicating with the last clients I met and we finished the agreement and got my last pay, Lorraine decided to show me the surrounding.

“Oh, Calvin just wanted it to be a full garden rather than plants distorting the look of his compound.”

“It's not bad,” I said before I raised my head up at Lorraine, “does he come here? He doesn't look like one to enjoy this beautiful serenity of these plants.”

Lorraine chuckled, “he does but not so often. But when he does, he spends a lot of time there.”

“What does he do here?” I was genuinely curious. For some thinking? The outside compound is enough for him to do that and Lorraine mentioned there's a pool so that's another place for him if he wanted to think.

“Just to breathe some air,” Lorraine replied so quickly that I had to turn to her.

“Is there something?”

“No. I just can't talk about his personal life.”

I shrugged, completely unbothered by her not sharing to say it. What do I do with it anyway? But personal life. Maybe I should ask about his general life then.

“For how long have you been working for him?”

Lorraine smiled genuinely, “for as long as I can recall. Calvin clocked 30, two months ago and I've been with him since he was 5.”

“5?” I was shocked. “You've been with him since childhood.”

“Correct. I raised him practically. His parents were busy and he always needed someone so I've been with him since then.”

“That's nice,” I muttered before stopping and asking the question, “has he always been like this?”

“Like what?” Lorraine pretended not to get the clue and I rolled my eyes.

“Rude and Cold. Does he mistreat you and is he also rude to you?”

“What? He's never been rude to me.” Lorraine exclaimed like my question was insane. “Oh, only once and he was almost out of his mind that day. Calvin is a good boy.”

“Covering up for him? Humph,” I rolled my eyes. It was clearly a lie. He's only been rude to her just once? No one will believe that?

“That disappointed you didn't get the answer you wanted?” The voice broke into our conversation and my body stilled as the footsteps neared and Calvin's scent filled my nostrils.

His eyes were contorted into a frown that I returned, “Yes. I wouldn't believe that after how I've been treated by you.”

Calvin hissed and turned to Lorraine, “I do not appreciate you giving out my life information to her.”

“What the? It was just a question. And you said he's not rude?” I turned to Lorraine but she didn't even bother.

“Alright Calvin, I'll do better next time,” she patted his cheeks, then walked away, leaving us alone.

“You're not the good boy she tagged you as,” I spotted out immediately and Calvin shot me a glare before settling on one of the benches in the garden.

“I need to be alone here. Leave.”

“Of course I will, I don't even want to be in your presence,” I shot and headed outside before stopping. I needed to talk to him about my job.

“That reminds me,” I turned to him and his frown deepened but I ignored, “I need to get back to my job.”

“What job? You don't need one,” Calvin said after moments of silence and that made me irritated.

“What do you mean?”

“You don't need a job,” he reiterated.

“I had a life before.”

“And I compensated you with that money. You're not working for the months you'll be here.”

“That must be an insane joke,” I laughed dryly and walked up to him, “if you think you can control how I live my life, you must be kidding. I'm married to you, not your maid. You won't dictate my life,” I tilted my head before leaning on him.

“I'm a videographer and guess what, I just got this contract for a birthday party next week so you should know, I'll be travelling.”

“Videographer?” Irritation clouded Calvin's face, “what silly job is that? You're married to me. You're a billionaire's wife. If you think you'll do that under my roof while married to me, you must be joking.”

“Really?” I smiled before laughing. “That's the job I did before you chose me for this goddamn marriage,” anger was beginning to consume me but I managed to keep my cool, “I will travel next week for my shot and you won't be able to do anything about it.”

Calvin stood and grabbed my arm before I could grasp it and by then he was fully angry, “you wouldn't dare.”

“Let's not be in a hurry,” I wriggled out of his hold and patted his collar, “you'll see it yourself next week.”

And with that, I turned. It was another deal one of the clients offered me but I turned it down because I wanted to figure out how I'd start my career being Calvin's wife but him dictating to me?

I was going to show him he was incapable of doing that.
