Calvin's POV
Another day to stand in front of the media. I smacked my lips at the thought. Just like the usuals when I have an interview to attend. The only difference was, I'd be shocking them today. And putting an end to the goddamn rumours. I was one to uphold all my values. How could anyone try to bring me down by spreading false rumors? And I'd do anything to show them the rumours were fake— and which was showing my wife to the media. At that, a chuckle spread over my lips but at the clicking of shoes, my face went back to normal. A floral scented perfume filled my nostrils and raising my head, I stopped at the captivation. Gorgeous red hair curled down and reached her shoulders. What? How could a hair shine so bright? Did I… how'd I miss the colour of her hair yesterday. There Cora was. And slowly my eyes moved down her body. She wasn't putting on the red dress I got but I think I like it. Because in a small top and high waist trousers and a black jacket, she looked exactly like she was made to stand by my side. “Good morning even though you don't deserve it,” she said and settled opposite me and I was suddenly aware of who she was. She was the insane woman that wanted to force me into apologizing when I stated only the fact for her yesterday. “That's not a nice way to greet your husband,” I stated and watched as she dug into her food. “What is the purpose of going out with you, today?” “You don't get to ignore my words,” something close to anger coated my voice. I was the one who gave money out to get married to her. I should have control over her, not the other way round. She stopped eating for a second and raised her head to me, “I did some research on you and I was told you have values. I bet respect isn't one of them.” I shut my eyes, irritation stirring through me. I told Aurelia to give me the softest girl. I didn't know I'd get a woman who would be exchanging words with me. “Are you sure you were supposed to be my bride?” At my question, I saw her pause before she rolled her eyes, “why? You expected someone with no voice of her own?” She had the greatest comebacks. “If you want this to last, you should watch how you talk to me.” I stated and stood. She opened her mouth to speak but I was already heading out. She was a pain in my head and a part of me knew I should have apologised for being late but that should have been on my own accord. Not her telling me to. Goddamn it. My spirit wasn't ready for all of this. In no time, I reached my car and waited minutes before she joined me. “I said where are we going?” “For a party. I'll be introducing you to the media.” “Okay,” she shrugged and relaxed into the car seat and I forced myself not to stare at her because all of her actions were like trained. She was always standing tall and even sitting down and holding her handbag, her composure was standard. My driver ignited the engine and in no time, we were on our way. Minutes later, the car was stopping in one of the famous lounges, and as expected, the paparazzi came rushing towards us. “Now, it starts from here,” I turned to Cora, “You act like my bride from now on.” “Alright,” she gave a forced smile and I watched as the driver came to open the door and I got down. Cameras flashed as I got down with my face straight. Walking to the other side, I scoffed at the idea of being the person to open the door but I did anyway and there, Cora gave me her hand and she got out, a radiant smile on her face. “What? Who's that?” “A female with Mr Calvin?” “Mr Calvin, who's that?” “You look very pretty,” I muttered and took Cora's hand and slowly took my lips to her hand and just like the texture of her lips yesterday, her hand was also soft. She flashed me another smile and I took her hand, heading inside the lounge. Cameras clicked behind and beside us and different questions filled my ears but I wasn't even interested in answering. Me holding this female in my arms will be the answer. “You know you look quite hostile. Are you sure they'll believe?” “They'll know it's fake if I do too much,” I answered Cora. I've not had a female close to me that much in about 5 years. Doing too much will make them question it. “Mr Calvin!” A voice called as we reached the insides of the lounge, drawing attention to us and Cora didn't even seem bothered. “Who —” the old woman turned to her colleagues, “who's this?” “Cora,” I pulled her closer to me, “Meet Cora, my newly wedded bride.” “What?” I watched as the woman's eyes rushed down Cora's fingers and she was more surprised seeing the ring. “You got married?” “Yes,” I turned to Cora and she wore a perfect, genuine and quite shy smile that I'd have believed was real. “She wanted something small. Now that's enough introduction.” “Yes,” Cora chipped, “Nice to meet you Mrs—” “Rodriguez,” the woman seemed surprised but she took Cora's firm handshake and Cora waved at the rest of the women who stared at her like she wasn't real. Those were the ones that believed the false rumours. Now, I have to meet the mastermind. “Is there something I'm missing here?” Cora whispered to me and I paused. “Like what?” “They're all in shock. Do they think you're a player and can never marry or what?” “Something close to that.” It wasn't time for her to know the reason for the marriage. “Oh,” she drawled, “I'd think the same too. You don't know how to treat women after all.” “You—” I wanted to say before my eyes rested on the goddamn idiot. The one who saw me as a challenge right from childhood. “Calvin?” “Oh Jayden,” I turned to him, my arms tight around Cora, “how has the party been going?” “Got a girl for hook-up?” He knowingly asked and before I could say a word, Cora beat me to it. “No of course not, my husband is better than that. He got married to me,” she flashed her ring exactly like I wanted and Jayden's jaw dropped before he burst out laughing. “Is this a joke?” The idiot. Thinks everything is funny? “Maybe since you don't take things seriously,” I shrugged, “at least now, there'll be no rumour anyone can use against me.” “Really?” Jayden took a step towards me, “nice try. At least it's good for the paparazzi. You really use your brain,” he smiled and reached us, “but I hope you don't lose more with your tactics.” “Tactics? What tactic?” Cora asked and he rolled his eyes. “We all know this ain't real.” “What do you mean?” Cora asked and turned to me and before I could grab it, she grabbed my collar and pulled me to herself and at once her lips went on mine. And fuck it. I hate to agree I liked that.“You do not get the right to kiss me without my permission,” Calvin's irritated voice rang in my ears as soon as I closed the car door and I turned to him at once.“Really? I do not get to kiss you? Are you a God or something?” Anger laced my voice at how unbothered he stared into space. Everybody was staring. While that man, Jayden or whatever, talked, everyone had their eyes on us and were waiting to see if he was right and I did what I thought was best. But it's this man I did it for. What did I think? He was going to think he's a god.“It was stated in the contract. You don't get to touch me without my permission. Talk more about kissing me. And especially in front of the crowd.”“Understood,” I gritted and leaned into the car, “And I hope you stick to it,” and with that, I grabbed my earpods from the purse and my music accompanied me until we were homeAs soon as the car stopped in the compound, I was out. “You are here,” Lorraine smiled as soon as I entered the room and I crash
“Ma'am, the event is about to begin,” one of the crew members told me and I smiled. I have been capturing different scenes of people happy and wishing the celebrant. My cameras were already fixed for the next event, the cake cutting.Yes, I went for the videography of the birthday message. Calvin can't control me and will never be able to. “Oh, and it's time for the celebrant to cut the cake!” A delighted MC's voice filled my ears and I smiled as I headed to the perfect spot to capture more of the scenes. The reason I was videoing the whole event was because the celebrant was a cancer patient and the fact that she gets to live another year made everyone delighted including me.That's what I love doing. It makes me happy that people are happy.“One, two, three!” The MC screamed and with the celebrant's boyfriend beside her, they cut the cake.Cheers filled the room and I smiled looking over at the other crew members. Since I don't have a crew of my own, they had to get other people to
Calvin barely said a word to me in the past two days. The only thing he did was nod to my greetings. He obviously was still mad. But what could I have done?Reaching the living room, I stopped for a second as his eyes met mine before they ran on my body and I felt them linger longer on me.“Here, have it,” he stretched a paper I collected and scanning the document, my jaws dropped. What? A Company Certificate? With my name on it?Is he kidding me? How…“You—”“Sign it. After that, you can go see your company.” His lazy voice dropped and my eyes widened.“It's all set?”“All set. Now sign it.”And that moment, happiness bloomed inside of me and I hurriedly scribbled my signature down. I now own a centre? One of my dreams! It was all done, huh? That easy? Oh my god! I was a CEO!“Thank you very much!” I screamed through a smile to Calvin as I looked at him and I saw his brows raised slightly before he nodded and stood, then out of my sight.Bad. He couldn't even say anything. Who cares
Turning to Jayden, I gazed at him like he had gone insane. “Do you realize you're talking about my husband here?” “Quit the acting Miss Cora.”“Mrs Logan.”“We both know you're fake,” Calvin straightened in his seat. “I'll give you whatever you want. 1 million? 2 million? Up to 15 million, think about it.”I wasn't sure I had ever been that irritated in my life. Coming openly to express your dislike for the person's wife was another level of courage and bitterness.Even though he thinks it's fake. That's too extreme.“I don't know what made you think that way but I love my husband, Calvin and you better bet he'd be knowing about this now.”“I don't care. Are you in or not? We'd have an agreement.”“I can never be in!” I stated and headed to the door. “Get out now Mr Jayden.” I ordered and pulled the door open for him and there my phone binged and I turned.Jayden stopped by the table and peered into my phone before he ran his eyes over me and headed towards me.“If you do not agree,
“I'm not interested in meeting with you in any way,” I texted the number in rage before I hit the block button. It was just one contract Calvin got for me, why's she so pissed about it?My phone buzzed and I reached for it hurriedly worried a number could text me even after I blocked them before I saw it was someone else. Ariana.“I'm on my way,” I screamed as I typed before rushing out of my office. It was the day of meeting her and I have been looking forward to it for days now.Reaching the parking lot, I paused. Would I be calling Brandon to take me? No. What if I have a discussion with Ariana and he hangs around to hear? I couldn't let that happen.Immediately, I was boarding a cab and minutes after I had reached the restaurant holding onto my handbag that contained the money she asked for.Not a lot.It didn't take long before I sighted my sister. At the corner of the restaurant like she'd always stay so as to avoid people. There, looking gorgeous and soft. Oh my god, I've miss
Calvin's POV“I asked a question. Are you a divorcee?” My voice was sharp as I gazed at Cora. I had just seen the news about her and her ex-husband. And all what was going on in my head was that that explained a lot about her.A lot about her. She was too extra. I got the hunch something was up.“I asked a question,” I told her and she scoffed.“Yes. Should I be embarrassed about it?”Here we go. I tilted my head at her question while she stared plainly at me, “I always wondered why you were too extra. And I finally have the answer. You were abused.”“That says a lot about how you acted.” My words barely rolled out of my mouth completely when Cora's jaw dropped. She gazed at me like I had gone insane before she shook her head, “what… what did you just… say?”“I mean your past definitely says a lot about the current you.” My words came out just like the thoughts were in my head and I saw Cora swallow hard before she smiled.A sad smile.“Wow, didn't take you for someone to rub someone
“This place is nice. Hmm, such glistening environment,” Cora clicked her tongue, her eyes darting around the premises in satisfaction. We were at the villa for the auction. It was a bracelet that was being auctioned and my only reason for attending was simply because I wanted to be there.“I don't know a lot about prices Mr Calvin,” Cora turned to me, my hand on hers, “tell me how much will a building like this cost, huh?”“Not much. Probably half a billion.” I stated casually and she was still beside me for a second before she shook her head.“I see.”“Hm,” I replied when one of the guards walked towards us. “Can we see the invitation card?”I brought out the card and they let us into the room where the auctioning was taking place. It was filled with only about 20 people, all of them familiar businessmen.Cora simply stayed silent beside me and in less than 5 minutes, the auction began.“So, we have the bid price for 100, 000” the auctioneer pointed at the image on which the bracelet
Cora's POVI stared down at my wrist, the bracelet sitting pretty on my right wrist since my left was still slightly injured.A 500,000 piece of jewelry was on me. How'd that even happen? And he indirectly said he wasn't going to get it. What changed his mind?“So you actually do believe in romance novels then,” I muttered to Calvin who sat beside me. We were on our way to the dinner his mum hosted and Calvin turned to me but didn't utter a word.“And 500,000 for jewelry for me? You opened my company too, Mr Calvin? Is there something I'm missing now?”Calvin ran his hands through his hair, an action I was just seeing him do which meant frustration, “I don't want questions,” his voice was cold and that made me pause.I thought… he was becoming warm. I thought we were.“Don't act all cocky, it was simply a question,” I rolled my eyes and grabbed my earpods but my mind still stayed on the question. Was he a fan of fiction? How'd he know about that familiar scene that happens in every no
