Chapter 26— I don't mind a divorce

Silence reigned in the car while warmth tugged at my chest as Brandon drove home. It felt different. Nobody had ever stood up for me. It wasn't until I began speaking for myself that people wouldn't dare trample on me.

I glanced at Calvin and he had his gaze fixated into thin air while I wondered what he was thinking. And why did he stand up for me? Every problem I created affected him most.

“Thank you,” I said out loud and he turned to me. His eyes ran over me for seconds in a scrutinizing gaze and he nodded. He looked away as fast as he could and ten seconds passed before he turned to me again.

“Come closer.”

Two words and the air in the car became thickened. It was an order and on an usual day I wouldn't listen but I was being controlled after everything Calvin had shown me

I moved towards him, grabbed his arm and slowly leaned on him.

“You will have to be careful with your movement as from today.”
