Chapter 5

"Oh, yes, I told him that I was married to an unfit man, who divorced his wife immediately after his first love came back from abroad. Do you think that such a man deserves me?"

"Now I have someone more capable, tell me why I should consider your family reputation?"

Avery said and wrapped her hands around her brother's waist. This made Abel's heart boil in anger.

"How dare you insult Abel in that manner? You can insult me for all I care but don't insult him. Look, Nicole, it's not Abel's fault that both of you got divorced. It was me that you should blame, I never knew my presence would cause you any trouble. Please forgive me" Riana explained and looked pitiable and innocent.

Riana noticed Sebastian standing beside Avery and became envious.

"How can a village pumpkin like Nicole who has no roots know Sebastian? How did she meet him? Riana thought. A flick of jealousy Sparks within her.

"You think I will stoop so low to barter words with you Riana? Come on Seba, let's get out of here. These two are not important " With that Avery and Sebastian walked out on them.

It took all her willpower to withstand the sight of Riana clenching on Abel's body. She couldn't take her eyes off them. Even though she promised herself not to care about him, she still felt pained seeing him with Riana.

"Why are you here? My marriage with Avery has not been dissolved and it would not be right for people to see us together like this"?

It was clear Abel was venting his frustration on Riana. So she quickly clutched his arms.

"Don't be angry with me Abel, I was only here to find out why you have not brought the wine"  Riana said softly, her face paled up and looked tender.

This was one of the many reasons Abel found Riana attractive.  She looked so innocent,  and pure, unlike Avery who was nothing but a gold digger.

His eyes grew tender, as he pulled her even closer to himself, from the corner of her eyes, Avery watched this. Abel had never showered her with so much affection as he does to Riana.

In the past, he was always cold and harsh towards her. Her heart grew heavy as she thought of it. She wondered why she married him in the first place.

After sending Riana back to their VIP room, Abel found himself in the manager's office to enquire about their wine.

"I am sorry, Mr. Copper, the wine has finished, someone ordered the full carton a while ago. We were only generous to give you the few that you got" the manager said, feeling awkward.

Abel groaned. He was visibly angered by the manager's words.

"Who ordered the wine?"

"How come the wine suddenly got finished? I ordered this wine and you assured me that you would supply it when I needed it. So why the sudden change? Huh!? And by the way, who ordered the wine?" Abel asked.

He was seething, his attitude was a little bit overbearing because the manager never promised to get him a full carton of the wine as he had requested earlier.

"Mr. Copper, I never promised to get you the full carton, I only told you that I would get you the wine despite its scarcity. I am sorry it was not enough for you and your guest. Besides, I can't afford to offend Mr Sebastian. He was the one who originally ordered the drink." The manager explained.

At the mention of Sebastian's name, Abel's stomach reverberates, and the thought of Avery clenching in his arms makes his eyes grow cold and darker.

"What is Sebastian's room number ?"

"He is on the third floor, in the executive room number 38," the manager said in Mallory Avenue, Abel, and Sebastian are two men he could not afford to offend.

Abel hastily went to the elevator and proceeded to room 38. Without knocking, he pushed the door open at the same time, Avery was wiping off the stain on Sebastian's lips. Abel couldn't contain his resentment as he quickly pulled Avery from the couch and yanked her on his shoulder even before Sebastian could understand what was going on he was already at the door.

When Avery fought to get out of his grip, Abel had already fled the room.

Abel entered his room, and slapped the door shut, locking it from the inside before he gently pulled Avery down. He leaned forward while trapping her between his stretched arms. His cold eyes stared harshly at her. Avery could hear his heart beating fast, and his body vibrating.

Until now, Abel never realized how much she meant to him. He can't explain how hurt he felt a few minutes ago when he saw her caring for another man.

But then, when he recalled how Avery quickly accepted the offer to marry him after he mentioned some compensation, his heart grew colder.

What are you doing? Let me go?" Avery yelled immediately the shock of what happened wore off.

"Can't let you go, Avery, because you are spending the night with me. You are still my wife" Abel whispered and drew nearer.

"Why would I spend the night with you? We are no longer married and I have the right to spend the night anywhere and  with whomever I choose and this night, I choose to spend the night with Sebastian not you!"

"There is no way I will allow you to spend the night with that man, while you are still bearing my name"

"I am not your wife anymore and I will never be,"  she said calmly in a composed manner that surprised Abel.

The woman standing in his presence was nothing to compare with the dumb wife he married three years ago. Where did her courage come from? The Nicole he knew would be happy to have him by her side. But right now his sights disgust her and this irritates Abel.

Sooner the word left her mouth, his lips descended towards hers, Avery's heart skipped and started throbbing hard she quickly closed her eyes as she anticipated his lips on hers, but what came on her lips turned out to be his finger, which hushed her up.

The two of them stayed in that position for a brief moment which was long enough to make her face reddish. He quickly removed his finger and strode into the bathroom with the key in his pocket. Abel felt frustrated. Does it mean that Avery now loves another man?

Meanwhile, Sebastian came out and went in search of his sister Avery. He was passing the corridor that led to Abel's VIP room when Raina spotted him. She came out to meet him.

"Mr. Clinton, mind having a word with you?" Sebastian turned and found Riana.

"Where is Abel?"

"Why do you ask about him? He is not here, I hope Nicole has not caused any problems for you. That woman is full of troubles. Do you know she stole from my company three years ago and ended up in prison? She is nothing but a common criminal"

Sebastian knitted his brow and balled his fist.

"If not that I was going to study abroad, Abel wouldn't have gotten married to her. I am glad that they were divorced and I am taking what rightfully belongs to me. But you know what? I don't think she is a good match for you just like she wasn't for Abel" Riana continued not noticing how she had enraged Sabastine

"And yet Abel kidnapped her from me a few minutes ago. If she wasn't a good match, why would he do so?" Sebastian asked and put his two hands inside his pockets.

Riana's face reddened, and she flared up.

"You!!" She yelled, pointing at his face and rapidly walked out on him. She rummaged through her bag, found her handset, and called Abel.

Meanwhile, Abel dropped his phone on the bed before he left for the bathroom. Immediately, he stepped out of the bathroom his phone rang. Riana's name flashed on the screen. He took the phone and moved towards the door. Nevertheless, Avery saw the caller ID and her mind became dull.

"What were you thinking Avery, that he would love you for real? That would never happen"

She never intended to get back to Abel, but somehow, she felt disappointed when he unlocked the door and left the room answering Riana's call without sparing her a glance.
