"Now I need everyone to team up with a partner on this project." Ms. Pearl, our music teacher informed the class as excited murmuring filled the room. "But not with people you know." A collective round of groaning is heard throughout the class.
A rolled-up piece of paper hit the side of my head.
"Psst Kamara!" He whisper-yelled. I knew exactly who that was and decided to ignore him as I focused on what Ms. P was saying.
"Just to be sure this works, I made a list myself." I imagined everyone staring daggers at her when she started calling names and their respective partners.
"Now remember, be creative, it could be a song you love so much or just instrumental music or whatever," she paused, "and no Veronica, no curse or swear words unless an F minus looks good on your yearly report." The class snickered at that. I was paired with the one and only. Drum rolls, please. Chris Marvel. Hurray with an eye roll.
Now don't get me wrong, he was hot, well he was team captain so I'm guessing he had thousands of girls already swooning over him so no way for me there. Pushing that thought behind my head, I headed for my locker to take the books I needed for the next two periods.
"Hi." I didn't need to turn to know who that deep voice belonged to. "I just wanted to apologize on behalf of Luke, what he said yesterday at dinner was out of character," he continued scratching the back of his neck.
I suddenly found interest in my sneakers.
"It's OK." I said in a voice I could barely recognize as my own, "he didn't kn-"
"Chris!" A squeaky voice exclaimed. "What on earth are you doing with that 'thing'?"
I could feel my anger rise. How dare she? I looked up to see the owner of such an irritating manner. I didn't know her but I already knew we were enemies.
"Shut up Elle," Chris replied in a threatening tone I had never heard from him before. "You don't know her and you have no business here." he crossed his arms while standing beside me observing the brunette.
She was pretty but her dress code screamed prostitute. Her skirt was too short for comfort and her shirt revealed too much skin and to top it all off, she was a pretty little slip of a thing.
"No." She said. "THAT THING-" she gestures to me "-doesn't deserve to be here."
"Oh, and you do?" He didn't give her time to respond. "I suggest that next time you decide to talk about Kamara like that, you watch your mouth." He left her stunned as he took my hand in his and led me out of there into the next class which we had together.

A single daffodil was in the plastic flower pot in front of a house I had never seen before. I was sitting on the porch of this house as the sun outside was bright. For some reason unknown to me, I was angry with myself that the flower seemed to be dying. I felt like I was responsible for it. The petals started wilting and the color draining from it. The life slowly slipping away.
Pain shot right through me and tears spilled down my face. I still didn't understand why I was so upset over this single flower and I still couldn't recognize the house on which I sat on the porch. Something happened next and I didn't know if it was just me but I started imagining that everything turning back to normal but little did I know that the flower started getting back its color.
The tears on my face dried as I noticed the flower had come back to life. The smile on my face was one of satisfaction. I was confused as to why the flower didn't just die and how it came back to life. I noticed someone standing on the road in front of the house. A woman. I looked closer. Mom? What was she doing here? I stood up to tell her what I just discovered but my whole body felt like led. I couldn't move neither could I speak. It felt like I was trapped.

"Let me make it up to you OK?" Chris pleaded.
"Chris it's nothing," I said opening my locker and taking out the textbooks I needed.
"So what do you think we should do for our music project?" He asked casually and leaned on the locker to my right. I looked up at him because as I said before, I'm kind of shorter than most girls here but I refused to wear heels because I'd just die before leaving my room. Okay, that was a little too much but you get where I'm coming from.
"Uh, I don't know," I said making eye contact. His eyebrows scrunched up in thought. DAMN. He was so cute and sweet I might have diabetes just looking at him. Okay, that was corny. Where did that even come from?
"Hello?" He snapped his fingers in front of my face. "Stop ogling me and think off something."
"I wasn't ogling you," I lied. I was a terrible liar
"Oh yeah right," he rolled his eyes. "You were totally checking me out," he turned around and I really did check him out.
His hair still in his signature messy style, a blue button-up shirt with the first two buttons undone revealing his toned chest, a pair of jeans that hugged his perfectly long legs. Nice butt.
"You're doing it again," he announced as he crossed his arms over his chest as I realize I've been caught in the act.
"Bye," I said before my face could feel hotter than it had become.
"I didn't hear the bell." He yelled after me.
"And I didn't stutter." I threw back increasing my pace to get to my next class.
"So," Chloe started, "you and Chris." She raised her eyebrows suggestively.
"Really Clo?" I groaned.
"Really," she confirmed, "you have to tell me what you did to him, he's no longer the playboy the school knows." She announced in a 'duh-it-should-be-obvious' tone.
"Whatever," I said ignoring her.
"But-" she never got the chance to go further because the class started.

"Wow," said Chloe. "His brother is such a charmer but he totally ruined his chances with you." I had just told Chloe about everything that had happened with me and Chris.
"Mind if I sit here?" Asked the one and only.
"What are you doing here?" I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Eating lunch" he raised his hands in surrender.
I let it go.
Just this once.

Uh, that doesn't go in there." Ama corrected as Nilo tries stuffing his mouth with three slices of bread. Just one word for me. Gross. I was sitting in the living room with my face sharing the same oxygen with my book. You could also say I was reading but with my siblings here, I don't think I can call it 'reading' anymore."Yes it does." Mumbled Nilo while opening his mouth to show the half chewed bread. "Ewwww." Ama cried. "That's gross." She announced. "Mama, Nilo's eating with his mouth full!" She yelled running to the back yard. "Genilo." Mom scolded from somewhere in the house. "Haven't you learnt anything about manners?" She sounded a little frustrated. "Not really" he had the cheek to reply. I could already imagine mom storming into the room but she didn't. Thankfully."Chi?" Mom called"Yes ma?" I muttered under my breath knowing exactly what she wanted."I need you to quickly get us some milk", exactly what I thought. Why couldn't Nilo do it?. This was another reason I
"Come on Kidjo, just one more""But it's so hard"So here I was climbing stairs with Chris. Yep, you heard right. Climbing stairs. I made a deal with Chris that I'd join him on his morning walks and workout on weekends and I'm regretting ever making this deal.***"Come on, it's just a spider" I said like it was nothing "just pick it up""What if it has poison in it and I end up paralyzed for the rest of my miserable life? " he asked as I watched the visible fear on his face. I just found it really amusing that Mr. Strong and mighty was scared of a harmless spider."Okay, I'll make you a deal" I found myself saying. His eyes narr
She was beautiful. I sighed contentedly as I snuggled in my bed to start my new book. Yes, I am a book lover, who would have guessed."Nice PJs k" I heard the familiar voice as I looked up to see Chris at his window. Today he wore a tank top that showed off his muscled arms and broad shoulders. I became subconscious as I looked down at what I was wearing. A silk top with small straps and short shorts. I looked back up to see his gaze on me."Uh, thanks?""What you reading?" He asked as I listened to his morning voice. No doubt he just woke up but his hair was wet and stuck to his forehead so he must have been up for a while. I held up the back of the book in his direction as I heard him chuckle."What's so funny about my book?" I asked looking at him in confusion"Nothing" he raised his hand in surrender "but how can I see the title if your of your book if you're in there on your bed
Somewhere in the forest ...He flipped his pancakes on the pan whilst whistling to himself. He was the only one living in this lone cabin. Surviving on hunting down the wildlife. He wanted this life. An escape from all the buzz of his turbulent life. His parents couldn't care less about him seeing as he had chose this sort of life. The only close members of his small family were his grandmother, who hated the spot light life and fast cars and Lily, his most trusted st. Bang!!!.I heard a gunshot. It shook me."I didn't know anyone lived in this forest and not this far into it" I thought.I waited after several heart beats before deeming it safe to peer over the large rock which I hid behind and spotted the bear dead where he had stood not too long ago.I gasped as I felt a odd ache in my chest. Seeing him dead and lifeless did something to my being that made me sad and depressed.I ran over to him. Gathering his large head in my thick laps and kissed his head. I don't know how long I sat there cradling his head like I could bring him back before I approached the river gently and with caution because there was a good chance that whoever shot the Bear was still watching. After drinking to my heart content, I splashed water on my face letting it calm my nerves. Ramon sat on a chair beside the bed where the unconscious melanin beauty laid. "You know what?""You were so right about our cheating boyfriends but we were so blind to see through our apparent love for them" Chloe finally concluded. So here I was back in school but we were in first period waiting for our teacher and we decided to catch up.I missed this no matter how much I claimed I hated it. She's that deep.I haven't seen Mark yet or Chris or any member of the baseball team. Sigh."Kamara" Chloe whined "what's on your mind?"I couldn't tell her. Or could I. I weighed the pros and cons. "I think the the Kootaca people will forever be in your debt for helping Maro deliver Kovu and Kulo" Cecilia, one of the vets at Kootaca Zoo."No, it's nothing really" I assured her calmly "she just needed a little help is all"I had just assisted a young Giraffe on her first delivery. The situation was worse because she had twins and they were two weeks early.I smiled while remembering my joy when they finally stood on their shaky legs and started walking a little, testing the grounds but didn't take more than three steps away from their mother. Smart animals."I won't have this argument with you because this isn't the first time you're coming to our rescue" she continued "a vacant spot is always available for you to work with is as a vet""You know I can't" I said lightly "I haven't started college but I am really busy making applications but thanks for letting
"Enjoy the rest of your stay here and no misbehaving" Mr. Green said finally dismissing the class for the last time ever."At last" Chloe said while walking with my to our last lunch at school."Freedom!" She screamed earning weirded out looks from some students but I've got to agree with her on that. No more waking up early. No more snotty teachers and students alike."What are you going in to the graduation party?""There's a party?" I asked clearly confused because the school only arranged for a formal celebration where we were to dress in dresses and suits (horrible, I know)."No dufus" she rolled hey eyes"Ther
Graduation was slowly creeping up close. It was three weeks away. Chloe and I had already discussed our plans for college. I was sad and disappointed to know we would be going to different schools."I'm going to miss you" she pouted" I won't " I said with feigned boredom resulting in my pillow being thrown at me. I dodged easily."I'm kidding, I'll miss you more"I told her as we continued with our assignments."Hey Clo?" I called her with my eyes glued to the textbook in my hands."Do you thi-""Wow" Chloe uttered as she opened my window which I had closed earlier so we wouldn't get distracted and start talking about Chris. I have had enough of him to last me a lifetime."I didn't know your room was directly opposite HIS room" she put emphasis in the his like there was a hidden meaning to her words."Chloe, please come
