Chapter 10

The company building loomed in front of me as I pulled into the parking lot. My heart pounded in my chest as I stared at it, muttering a silent prayer before stepping out of the car. Rachel had lent me her car to get to work, but even in the borrowed black suit I felt stiff and out of place. My palms were sweaty as I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself before heading inside.

The receptionist’s eyes widened slightly as she spotted me. “Good morning, Miss Chloe,” she greeted warmly, her tone respectful.

I nodded, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’m here to see…” I began, but she interrupted.
