Sophia

My mother was cooking in silence, and my father was flipping through the newspaper for the fifth time. I felt like a leaf floating in the middle of a storm directionless, powerless, out of control. Uncertainty loomed over me, and all I could think about were Bright’s words in that letter.

I had spent the whole day avoiding the envelope Bright had sent me. It was left in plain sight on the kitchen table, but I didn’t dare to open it until hours later. When I finally did, Bright’s handwriting was neatly written on the page, filled with heartfelt words.

"I love you, Sophia, and I sent you this note in the form of a letter to tell you that. I don’t consider myself the most romantic person in the world, but I wanted to send a note like in the old days. Take care. With love, Bright."

When I finished reading it, I pressed the letter to my chest, sighing and thinking. But eventually left the envelope on the table. My parents didn’t touch it, but I could tell they wanted to.

SophiaThis isn't my wedding, and yet, I have to look happier than the bride herself. The members and family of the Moonlight pack were celebrating James wedding, the Alpha and my brother. He had found his mate. The scent of expensive wine floated in the air, tempting me to drown my sorrows. Everyone was chatting cheerfully. Some people clapped for my brother and his wife as they danced on the luxurious dance floor. With a glass of champagne in hand I walked through the crowd, wearing a smile that seemed just right."Hey, Sophie!" my aunt called out from a distance. She wore a gorgeous dress, her face flushed with joy. "What a wonderful moment, right?! Look at them! They make such a great couple, and they're so young!"I quickly approached her and clinked my glass against hers. The crisp sound rang pleasantly in the lively atmosphere. "Auntie, you look just the same as always." I tilted my head back and drank the champagne in one go.The bubbles burst happily on my tongue, leaving a b

Sophia"You really know how to ruin my romantic evening, Sophia."The woman was frantically wiping her face. Her delicate makeup was totally ruined now. "Honey, look at what she did!" she choked out andtried to snuggle into his arms for comfort. But Bright mercilessly pushed her away."Get out! Go wash your face quickly. You're a nuisance" his voice was cold, without the slightest trace of warmth.I narrowed my eyes at his attitude. Bright deserved a beating. If I wasn't busy keeping my balance on these stilettos, I'd make sure he knew it."It wasn't my fault. And you!" she shot me a furious look, as if she wanted to kill me, then turned around and stormed out of the room. The sound of her heels echoed angrily against the floor. She should thank me for saving her. I raised the glass, but no drip in it. Bright walked toward me. He crossed his arms over his chest, his muscles subtly flexing. He looked at me with a flash of disgust in his eyes, as if expecting an apology. But at that m

SophiaThe headache woke me up. I rubbed my face and groaned from the discomfort. I don’t know why I drank so much, but I swear this is the last time I touch a drop of alcohol. I turned over in bed, looking for a comfortable position for my body. But I felt something strange. Something wasn’t right. I frowned. My bare skin touched a warm body. What the hell?My eyes flew open.Bright was asleep beside me. His calm breathing matched his relaxed face. His hair was messy, and one hand rested behind his head. The muscle in his arm was perfectly defined. The sheets covered him from the waist down, allowing me to see his toned abdomen.I understood why women went crazy for him. But my heart almost leaped out of my chest when I realized what I had done. The scent of his cologne was all over my body. A shower wouldn’t erase the memory of his fragrance on my skin. A shower wouldn’t erase what we did.Damn it. No. Why was this happening to me?I sat up in bed almost in a panic. I held my head,

SophiaMom took care of the wedding preparations, and Dad paid for everything. Both of them were eager to see me married to Bright after the scene in the hotel bedroom. They pressured me too much to bring the wedding forward as soon as possible to avoid my reputation being hurt. My brother wanted to kill Bright every time he was around.I found myself trapped in a dead-end path. Disappointing my parents wasn’t an option. I was born into a family with strict values and rules. The expensive dress was in front of me. It was an elegant design, with long sleeves and delicate lace. The bouquet of white flowers lay on the metal vase at one side of the room. Everything looked spectacular. My marriage to Bright had to be that way. Appearance. Ours was not real, and it never would be.I got myself into this mess. I had to take responsibility. After all, I was the one who told everyone I loved Bright. When the truth threatened to destroy me, I had to invent a lie. The consequence was maintainin

SophiaI decided to take a break from the madness of marriage. Mom and Dad were constantly pressuring me. They had a specific idea of how marriage should be, and Bright and I didn’t meet their expectations.Bright didn’t pressure me, but my family pressured him. Since we married, my brother has given him too many responsibilities in the pack. I think James wanted to separate Bright from me. I didn’t care, but my brother treated Bright unfairly. Anyway, I know James was trying to protect me from Bright. Since we married, Bright has had to be careful with his affairs. I didn’t mind that at all. I was more relaxed if someone can grab him from me.But faking it was exhausting. My parents constantly invited us to dinner to analyze us. It was stupid.I could barely focus on the conversation with my friends. Comments from the streets reached my ears.“Did you hear? Bright gave up his destined mate to be with Sophia. He’s in love with her and loves her. Who would give up their destined mate i

SophiaA storm was approaching. The air at the border was colder than I had imagined.I clung to my jacket, watching the trees and thinking about Bright. He had forbidden me from coming. I insisted, but I couldn’t convince him to take me and the pack with him. Bright was acting like a chauvinist. Did he really think I couldn’t defend myself?I didn’t listen to him and decided to come on my own. Alone, in the middle of the forest. I have to admit, the thought of disappearing made me uneasy. The disappearances of werewolves hadn’t happened in over a century. Who would dare to make them vanish? Bright’s concern this morning had warned me that the problem was immense. Maybe coming here wasn’t a good idea. But I couldn’t just sit idly by and do nothing. My brother led our pack, and something could happen to him.Bright was in charge of a group of werewolves. And… Dante.Something could happen to him. I would never forgive myself. Dante married another woman, but I couldn’t hate him. If som

SophiaThe tent sheltered me from the cold wind blowing outside. Bright was still with the other members. There were scattered sounds around the tent. I felt alert to any noise. Bright hadn't come back to see me.He left me tied up and defenseless.I was angry with him. It bothered me that he didn’t trust me to be of help. No matter what my reason for being here was, I had useful hands, and I wanted to use them. But he had been clear when he told me that my presence annoyed him. And yet, here I was. Hands tied in a large tent as if I were a prisoner. He had no right to do this to me.I wanted Bright to come back so I could fight with him. Bright had said he didn’t care about me. That was what I deduced after he told me he wouldn’t grieve my loss if something happened to me. If that was true, then he had to let me go.Damn, arrogant bastard.I tried to loosen the ropes binding my wrists, but Bright knew what he was doing. I was trapped.“Damn idiot…” I muttered in frustration. The voic

SophiaBright took my hand and led me back to the tent. I walked past the body of a murdered human. His blood was spilled on the ground, and I grimaced. The tent still smelled of damp fabric and cold earth. My adrenaline had dropped so much that I started trembling from anxiety. They tried to hunt us, and we all could have died. They had weapons and bullets capable of killing those of our kind. The echo of the gunshot still vibrated in my head, making my breathing quicken. I had never seen someone die before. My family had always protected me from all of this.Bright stood in front of me, his face covered in blood, his eyes glowing with restrained rage. He had freed me from the restraints, but he still hadn’t let go of me. His fingers were firmly pressed against my face, making sure I was okay. I nervously played with my hands.Bright wouldn’t stop looking at me. And that only made me more nervous."Stop looking at me like that, Bright," I asked in a low voice.Bright had that typical

SophiaThe silence at home felt more uncomfortable than ever because I was alone with my thoughts. I didn’t know solitude could make me overthink so much, but I guess being terrified about Bright made everything heavier.Although, in truth, I wasn’t completely alone. My parents were here, just as Bright had promised. He spoke to them before leaving for the border, and, as always, his word was enough. My mother settled in the kitchen as if the world wasn’t falling apart, and my father sat in his usual armchair, flipping through the same newspaper from days ago as if he didn’t notice his daughter was falling apart right before his eyes. The guards outside were the only thing that broke the illusion of normalcy, though I’d been living with them for several days now. I knew there were at least four werewolves stationed around the house. I saw them when I arrived, I felt their footsteps at night, and I heard their low murmurs when they communicated through their earpieces. It was a subtle,

SophiaI barely slept, and when I did, it was out of exhaustion, not peace. I had nightmares of Bright and Dante fighting, and the feeling still lingered in my body. I thought it had been real because that’s how it felt. I couldn’t help but think it could actually happen, and I would have to stop it somehow.I still had on the clothes from the day before and my hair was tangled from all the tossing and turning. Every sound, every creak of the wooden house startled me. I kept imagining Bright pounding on the door again, asking if I was okay… suspecting, maybe even already knowing, that there was something I was hiding from him.And he was right. Bright wasn’t stupid. He could tell what I was thinking without even looking at me. I don’t know if it’s because I’m an open book or because he knew me so well that he could just sense it.Dante had left after breaking that vase, leaving me alone with trembling hands, a shattered heart, and guilt written all over me. I didn’t know what to do. I

BrightNo matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get her out of my head. No matter how much I fought it, her name wandered through my mind all the time, causing me emotional turmoil. I didn’t know how to go back to what we used to be because everything had changed between us forever.Sophia.Her name slips into my mind during every moment of silence and sneaks into my thoughts even when I’m in the middle of a meeting with the pack. Her laugh, the way she frowns when something bothers her, the sparkle in her eyes when she tries to appear strong and fails… all of that haunts me. It disgusted me to think about her so much because I was never like this. This wasn’t me. I never liked feeling anything, but the more I tried to erase her from my mind, the more the feeling clung to my heart.Since that night, her image has become a constant echo within me. Something unforgettable. And even though we haven’t truly spoken since then, her presence hasn’t left me. She was tattooed on my skin without

SophiaThe storm had passed a few days ago. Things between Bright and me weren’t bad, but they didn’t feel comfortable either at least not for me.He tried to start conversations whenever we were close, but we hadn’t brought up what had happened between us. I was grateful he hadn’t said a word about it, but that didn’t mean he didn’t want to. I could see it in his eyes, but he was giving me space.I really liked what happened between us again. Every time it happened, it surpassed the last. Now I understand why the women Bright had slept with had fallen so deeply for him: because Bright had a touch that was hard to forget. His damned mouth was enchanted with the most powerful love spell.Ever since I closed the door behind Bright that morning, I knew some things couldn’t be undone. I was left alone on the same couch where we’d shared such an intimate and complicated moment, feeling empty. Not empty of emotions, but of direction. I didn’t know where to go or what to do with the mix of g

SophiaEverything happened too fast, and now my mind had to work twice as hard to process what had happened. My decisions were still random, unplanned, and then the feeling of uncertainty and confusion struck both my mind and body. The tea kettle was whistling, producing a sharp, constant sound, but I didn’t turn it off. I didn’t feel like doing it or moving at all. I just stared at it, as if in that noise I could find answers or at least a bit of mental peace. My chest rose and fell heavily, processing every second we had spent physically united. It had been so intense and exquisite, but the greatness of what we shared also carried a heavy weight on my shoulders.Yes, Bright and I had made love.It wasn’t just sex. I felt it in the way he kissed me, touched me, whispered my name. It was more than a physical impulse. It was like opening a door we had both kept closed out of fear of what we’d find behind it. A door I had locked with a bolt out of fear.Bright entered the kitchen. Insta

SophiaI’d been thinking the whole time about what I felt. There was so much chaos inside me and I didn’t know what decision to make. Everything seemed both right and wrong at the same time. I wanted to divorce Bright to be with Dante, but at the same time, I didn’t want to be with Dante if it meant divorcing Bright. It was incredibly stupid and immature of me, but I couldn’t deny what was inside me.I wanted to stop feeling something for Bright, but the more I fought to exhaust the love that had begun to bloom in my heart, the worse it got. It was like sinking deeper into that love that appeared out of nowhere. It would’ve been easy to rip the feeling from my chest, but I couldn’t find a way. I thought being with Dante would clear my mind, but it didn’t. Dante put everything in an unfair perspective, and I had to face my feelings for Bright every single day.Dante was right when he said I still had feelings for Bright. He was right, and I wasn’t able to accept it. Dante sensed it —he

SophiaIt hadn’t been long since he walked through the door of the house with permission from the werewolves. Bright wasn’t home, so I had to seize the opportunity. I didn’t want to talk about this with Bright anywhere near.I didn’t know how to begin. The words were stuck in my throat because I knew he wouldn’t want to hear what I had to say. I knew how he would react, but I hoped for the opposite. I was afraid, but I gathered my courage.I was pacing back and forth in the kitchen, holding the phone in my hands while Dante sat in the dining room, waiting for me. I had asked him to come over because I didn’t want to hide anything from him. If we were going to have an honest relationship, now was the time to prove it. We both had things to resolve. Neither of us had an ideal situation.I took a deep breath and entered the dining room where Dante was waiting with a cup of coffee in his hands.Dante looked up from his cup when I sat down across from him. His expression was serious, that

SophiaThe storm broke out in the middle of the night. The news reports had announced that a strong storm was coming, but I didn’t think it would be that bad. However, the sky kept lighting up.A thunderclap echoed everywhere. I felt the sound inside my body, vibrating. I felt it in my chest as if the sound had settled there. I sat up in bed and, as if the sky confirmed my suspicions, a lightning bolt lit up the entire room. Then, darkness. Total darkness. The power had gone out. Ever since Bright stopped sleeping in our bed, I haven’t been able to sleep with the lights off. Especially not after those guys almost kidnapped me. I didn’t feel safe being alone in the dark, so I decided I had to leave my room. The bedroom was upstairs, but I didn’t want to stay alone and unprotected. I didn’t know what could happen out there. The werewolves guarding the house had to be more alert than ever because the sound of the rain and the storm wouldn’t let them hear anything around them. For a few s
