In Jessica's world, marriage had to go through one's parents. This was true even though she now regretted listening to her mother. She believed this fact in her very bones.

Kathryn's sudden marriage turned her understanding of the world upside down. And it was a fake marriage too!

When Kathryn heard Jessica ask if she'd been scammed, she felt a headache coming. "No. Don't jump to conclusions."

"Where are you now? I'm going to see you!"

Jessica seemed not to have heard what Kathryn said. Now, she was absolutely worried.

Kathryn said, "I'm really fine. You don't need to worry, Jessica."

"How can I not worry? When Grandma died, she told me to take good care of you …" Jessica choked up.

At the mention of their grandmother, Kathryn felt a pang in her heart. Waves of pain radiated from her chest.

Before Kathryn could answer, Jessica started crying. "How could you not tell me that you got married? It's such a big deal! How am I supposed to keep my promise to Grandma now?"
