Kathryn ordered takeout for Kelly on her phone while the little girl buried herself in Jessica's arms.

In just a short period, she'd gone through her parents' divorce, and now, the fact that she wasn't her father's daughter. That kid's world must have fallen apart.

After the takeout was delivered, Kelly gave Jessica a chicken drumstick. "Eat, Mommy," she said, in a cautious tone that made it clear she was scared Jessica would abandon her too.

Jessica felt like a criminal when she saw how scared her daughter was. "You have some, my dear." Jessica shook her head.

She and Matthew might have divorced, but Kelly could have had a stable life if she was Matthew's daughter. What was she supposed to call this?

"Aunt Kathryn, have some of this." When Jessica refused her, Kelly handed the drumstick to Kathryn.

Kathryn fondly ruffled her hair, then said, "I don't want that. You eat it, Kelly. Okay?"

When neither of them took Kelly's food, fear flashed in her eyes. Jessica took her into her
