Myra
"Raul," I whispered, the name tasted foreign on my tongue, unheard to my ears. I heard him inhale sharply and looked up at him. His intense gaze made me avert mine. His pale skin stood out even more in the darkness, ghostly and grey. My heart clenched at the traumatic experiences that he had faced. It made me angry to think that one person could be cruel enough to inflict such pain on his beloved and his child even if they weren't human and how that person was the sole reason that led Damian to the conclusion that all humans were cruel and heartless. His mother despite being undead, a nocturnal, a Royal was tortured so inhumanly. A little boy who did not deserve such treatment was almost burnt at stake. I blinked several times to hold back my tears.
"Why are you telling me all this?" I couldn't help but ask. We were standing side by side, looking out into the dark wilderness. The lights from candles in the room had long been snuffed out by t
DamianWhen I came back to my senses, the first thing that my unfeeling body felt was the pain. I cried out, my eyes were wide open now. I took in my surroundings while trying to forget the ver-present pain and burning. I was in the dungeon and this was no doubt the Castle. It didn't take me long to realise that my wrists were bound, my knees were throbbing with dull pain. It has been long since I felt this kind of pain. I chuckled despite wincing, this reminded me of the man who sired me. The silver chains encircling my wrist must have charred the skin there. My back also ached, the phantom sensation of what probably was a silver dagger still present. However, my pain addled brain tried to decipher as to why I had suddenly been ambushed or who had the audacity to ambush me. I tried to pull on the chains but that served to alleviate my pain even more."Still fighting, I see." An all too familiar feminine voice made me glance up. Alex
DamianThe pain that was coursing through my entire body somehow felt a distant ache now as I took in the revelation. My mouth fell open as I stared at the High Queen dumbfounded. She steadily kept her gaze elsewhere. Her jaws set in a defiant clench. She was my mother's...If one would think that I felt a sudden rush of affection or felt emotional at this discovery then they would be mistaken. All I felt was anger, the mind-numbing pain that I felt, turned into fury. How could she not do anything for my mother if she was the Queen's only daughter? Why did she let us suffer and let my mother wither away like that?"So you...turned me to save your face? So that the Council didn't question you?" I spat out. Even moving my lips turned out to be a difficult chore as the time ticked. She turned her scathing gaze towards me and huffed out a patronizing laugh, "Well I wouldn't have if you managed to fend for yourself." The last part stung more th
Damian"No....you did not...you...didn't..." I chanted, not believing and not even daring to imagine that she might have harmed Myra. In the process, I was also trying to convince myself that she was at the cottage, safe and maybe waiting for me. My heart twisted in agony. The Queen turned around. "What makes you think that I will spare her?" her question made me flinch. She was an unbiased ruler and her name preceded her. Yet...and yet she had protected me in her own way or for own sake.I lowered my gaze unable to give her a proper answer. My lips quivered as my mind chalked up different scenarios. I screwed my eyes shut. The pain and worry making it impossible for me to shut out the thoughts. She waited for a while, for what? I don't know before I heard her retreating footsteps. I sagged, my breath coming out in laboured pants. Suddenly I had no fight left in me. I did not entertain the notion of being able to save her, it would b
MyraThe first thing, I remotely felt after I came back to my senses was burning pain. It felt as if my entire body was on fire. A scream wrenched out of my lips as I felt the burning sensation devouring my senses like a fire-breathing monster. The next thing I became aware of was that I was no longer on the forest grounds but in a more...civilised place? I felt my fear spike up. Where was I? And why was I not dead?"Ah...I see you are awake." Through the haze of pain and fear, I squint to locate the origin of the voice and then my gaze fixates on Alexandra. I hurriedly sit up and glare at her, "Why am I here?" The burning sensation in my throat makes my voice sound scratchy and hoarse. She sighs but doesn't answer. Instead, she walks up to me and hands me a goblet with a sweet-scented liquid.I eye the goblet before glancing up at her. She raises an eyebrow. "Drink it and the burning sensation that you might be feeling will go away." Her
DamianMy eyes opened to a familiar chamber — my bedchamber. Surprisingly, the pain had disappeared. I sat up quickly but immediately winced at the sudden bolt of sharp pain that coursed through my body. "My lord, you are awake," an extremely familiar voice made me look towards the doorway. Andrew was entering the room with a tray in hand.He must have read the confusion on my face due to which he started speaking even before I had asked him anything. "Lady Alexandra informed me through a missive that the High Queen had taken you into imprisonment. I appealed to Her Highness and told her that, you were...being misled and taken advantage of by lady Myra...so-"But he stopped speaking midway when he noticed me glowering at him. "How. Dare. You?" I was practically trembling with anger. However, Andrew raised his chin a little defiantly. "I apologize for being audacious. However, I deemed whatever would benefit you, my lord." He lowered
DamianI hissed slightly as I felt her fangs break the sink and sink deeper. However, I kept a firm hold on her waist as she sucked on my neck. I understood her desire and so I did not wrench her away but my gaze settled on Alexandra's sagged frame. She was massaging her neck before her gaze locked with mine. Her eyes blazed with anger and contempt. She heaved herself up and sneered, "Deal with her." And with that, she stormed past me. Once again, I focussed on my mate who had stopped sucking on my neck. She pulled away and fixed her gaze on the crook of my neck. I didn't say anything, giving her time to process her actions.Several emotions flitted across her face — shock, disgust, helplessness. She slowly looked up at me, her black lashes fluttering. Pain and anguish was written all over her face. I cupped her face as she continued to stare at me silently. I felt a phantom ache, thinking that if she had been human, her lashes
MyraWhat had I done? I looked at Alice's lifeless body, her eyes bulged out, her mouth wide apart as if to cry for help but that scream, that cry was stifled forever, robbed by me. The inhuman cry that tore out my lips pierced the stillness of the atmosphere. I couldn't cry, I couldn't feel my heartbeat. All I could feel was pain that radiated from somewhere within me.I honestly don't know how I managed to take the life of this girl, the only one who had been remotely nice to me when I came here as a bride. I just had the memory of pulling myself out of Damian's hold and racing down the corridor in search of something, dazed and craving blood. After that whatever happened was blurry and like a whirlwind that destroyed everything in its wake.My eyes locked with Damian's —- my mate. He looked back at me sadly. His pale face held remorse, and I knew the reason behind it. His mate had turned into a monster now. My li
DamianThe glass chandelier shattered on the floor, creating disharmony in the otherwise silent surroundings. But then again it mingled with my mate's cries of pain and anguish which in turn made me want to kill the one who was the root of her misery. Her pain-filled howls weren't audible to the other servants. I had predicted the Council's surprise visit today but they didn't show up. Keeping her in the attic room was primarily because of them but it seemed that it was a good decision for whatever she was suffering from. I had sent Andrew to fetch news but her misery was aggravating me by minutes."Sire," Andrew called, drawing me out of my thoughts."What news?" I murmured. "And it better be a bloody good one.""Marianne has received 200 lashes of the silver whip. Her condition is dire." His tone held a hint of contempt, towards whom I don't know but the news made me feel content. I nodded. "Very good news indeed. How was sh

Damian My threat had its desired effect. She paled, her eyes turned fearful as she staggered back, as if he was about to attack her. "Who-who told you such lies?! I have one no such thing!" My gaze did not waver, but hers averted. Her clenched fists shook with anger. Myra's grip on my arm tightened. "If you haven't then why aren't you looking me in the eye?" I asked. "For all this time, I have been dwelling on grief and guilt. I have regretted nothing more than the heinous act I had committed. Do you know how many nights? Have roamed the woods, unable to find peace anywhere? How I segregated myself from the lot so that I wouldn't have to face something like that again? Do you?" My voice had risen several octaves with each unanswered question, which is why the silence that followed felt jarring. "I..." she seemed o be at a loss for words. I could see how her lips had thinned, how her cheeks had paled and how her jaw had tightened.
DamianRage engulfed every vein in my body. How dare he? I lived with the guilt of killing a dear friend for as long as I could remember, and now, he is telling me that he manipulated me to do so? that I was made to kill someone? Before I knew it, I was charging towards him. I watched as Connor's. eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he retaliated. I punched his face before he could make the first move, after all, I was the Nocturnal between the two. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Greyson approaching. But before he could take any further steps, Myra attacked him. I couldn't help, but smirk, feeling proud o my mate for acting quickly.I barely managed to dodge the spell that was directed at me. But Andrew deflected it with a spell of his own. I watched Myra clearly having the upper hand in the fight. Hybrids were strong like that. However, her moves were a bit sluggish. I twisted his arm, relishing the howl that ripped out from his mo
Myra My eyes darted towards Nora, who had stiffened as well. Her body language conveyed that it was not Connor, and I didn't know whether to be happy about it. And it was then that his scent wafted into my nostrils. Damian. Dread and happiness amalgamated inside me, coiling and wounding around my dead heart. Nora rushed to the door. I couldn't move an inch, even if I wanted to. "Please, no!" I shouted, but she was out of the door. I tried to rankle the binds but only managed to get nicked by the dagger. It burned the area. I hissed in pain and backed away. I feared the worst because I didn't what Nora could do. The urge to cry increased. But that would be fruitless, given how I wouldn't be able to cry anymore. The burn on my neck did not even seem to bother me now. I eagerly stared at the doorway, and then I felt myself sag in the chair with relief when Damian entered through the door. Andrew followed him in. My mate's eyes
Damian"Sire, I beg you to calm down," Andrew said placidly after hearing a sickening crack on the wooden table. My anger did not simmer down. All I wanted to do was rip out Connor's throat and send him to his beloved."Did you get any intel?""I... think that she must have been taken to the plague village," he replied carefully. I frowned and stood up from the chair. The living room rarely resembled like one anymore, but I hardly cared for decorum."You mean the abandoned village near Shadowwick?" I asked. Andrew gave a slow nod. "It's a possibility, and I also heard from the night watchers that they had seen a carriage drive in that direction. The occurrence was unfamiliar since hardly anyone goes there and there is no other stop in between. It was highly possible Shadowwick was not far from here. Connor wouldn't dare to venture into the town because he was still being hunted down, even after all these yea
DamianDread coursed through my body as I scanned the entire house. It wasn't even that big, comprising only two floors and an attic. I knew she wasn't here. I couldn't sense her. "Sire, I assume Connor was here. And another person," Andrew said. His voice tight. I clenched my fists. I knew it! I knew he wasn't as honest as he appeared to be. And yet...I threw the nearest thing across the floor. The ornate vase shattered into pieces. "Sire, you must calm down. We need to find Lady Myra." I heard Andrew's tentative tone. He knew my anger could turn ugly and it will when I meet Connor who dared to take my mate."Sire?" Andrew handed me a letter. "I found it on the mantel," he said. I snatched the letter and tore it open. I was certain it was written by Connor.[Dear Raul,If you have not already guessed it, then let me tell you, I have your mate. I must say that she is feisty. Put up quite a fight. But thanks to my slave
MyraI stared out of the window, into the dark woods. Damian had gone to meet Andrew, and I was awaiting his return eagerly. As time passed, my anxiousness started increasing as well. He had promised that he would come back before the nightfall...I paced around the room, feeling like a caged animal almost since he had strictly prohibited me from going out. Despite being an immortal now, I feared for his life. A bitter chuckle slipped out of my lips. Life? A useless word for me now. Yet I feared for Damian. For what he might encounter, or rather whom he might encounter.I decided to leave the confines of our room and go downstairs. The house was warded anyway. Damian had said that if someone came by, I would be able to see them but they wouldn't. They would only see a dilapidated house. I did not question his faith in Andrew who apparently was a warlock. I went and sat on the settee, my gaze pinned to the window. My thoughts wandered to Co
DamianI stared, absolutely stunned and amazed, at the tiny village that was nestled within the deep woods. Myra, too, looked around in awe. "Are they all...?" Connor nodded, answering my unfinished question. Myra walked ahead. I saw some women looking at us suspiciously, almost warily, if I dare say. I could understand the reason behind such dubious glances and wary flickers of gazes. They could sense that I am a Royal. All the vampires can sense another's rank if they had one."Don't worry, they are friends," Connor said aloud, an affable grin slipping on his lips. It was a reassuring smile, a silent promise of assurance. But most of them who had been outside having scurried inside their houses. Connor looked at me apologetically. I stared back impassively. I was still cautious of him. He was the man whose lover I had killed. I would never forget Fredrick's solemn gaze and the deep-seated agony inside. Even if he looked harmless, there was no w
DamianMy eyebrows twitched as Connor sipped tea calmly sitting in the living room. Myra sat on one of the settees. Her gaze darting towards me from time to time. "How did you find this house?" I asked him, crossing my arms across my chest. Connor placed the cup and saucer down and leaned on the sofa. "I...navigated." I furrowed my eyebrows. It wasn't possible unless...No, Andrew wouldn't divulge a thing, even if his life was on the line."Why are you here?" I asked impatiently. When Connor knocked on the door this morning, I had almost ripped out his throat, thinking it was some imposter. Then he asked for a cup of tea from Myra, who had come downstairs as well and refused to answer any question until now."I realised that talking in the middle of the woods was a dangerous thing, especially now that both of you are fugitives like me," he explained, his tone held a hint of sarcasm which grated my skin. I knew he would not leave any o
