Myra

What had I done? I looked at Alice's lifeless body, her eyes bulged out, her mouth wide apart as if to cry for help but that scream, that cry was stifled forever, robbed by me. The inhuman cry that tore out my lips pierced the stillness of the atmosphere. I couldn't cry, I couldn't feel my heartbeat. All I could feel was pain that radiated from somewhere within me.

I honestly don't know how I managed to take the life of this girl, the only one who had been remotely nice to me when I came here as a bride. I just had the memory of pulling myself out of Damian's hold and racing down the corridor in search of something, dazed and craving blood. After that whatever happened was blurry and like a whirlwind that destroyed everything in its wake.

My eyes locked with Damian's  —- my mate. He looked back at me sadly. His pale face held remorse, and I knew the reason behind it. His mate had turned into a monster now. My li

DamianThe glass chandelier shattered on the floor, creating disharmony in the otherwise silent surroundings. But then again it mingled with my mate's cries of pain and anguish which in turn made me want to kill the one who was the root of her misery. Her pain-filled howls weren't audible to the other servants. I had predicted the Council's surprise visit today but they didn't show up. Keeping her in the attic room was primarily because of them but it seemed that it was a good decision for whatever she was suffering from. I had sent Andrew to fetch news but her misery was aggravating me by minutes."Sire," Andrew called, drawing me out of my thoughts."What news?" I murmured. "And it better be a bloody good one.""Marianne has received 200 lashes of the silver whip. Her condition is dire." His tone held a hint of contempt, towards whom I don't know but the news made me feel content. I nodded. "Very good news indeed. How was sh

Damian"Arrange some herbs and tincture for us. We have to be out of this mansion by tonight," I ordered as I crumpled the letter viciously. Andrew nodded and left immediately while I went back into the room where Myra lay unconscious. I picked her up in my arms, her head lolled to one side, resting limply on my shoulder as I carried her down the stairs. So they were planning to search my mansion and drag my mate in order to execute her? For a crime, which she hadn't even committed? Rage engulfed my senses. How dare they? My grip tightened."Ugh," an incoherent sound made me look at Myra whose eyes had fluttered open but only slightly. I laid her on my bed —our bed and said, "Rest for a while. We need to leave. Soon." I don't know how much she understood but she nodded nonetheless before closing her eyes again. My heart would have ached at her pitiable condition had it been a beating one or so what I have read in the books.&nbs

  • Bride of the Vampire Lord   34. A Place that holds Pain

MyraI opened my eyes to stare at a wooden ceiling of what possibly could be a carriage. My ears picked up the sound of hooves and the occasional sound of a whip. It was then that I realised gentle fingers carding through my hair and that my head was pillowed on someone's lap. I vaguely remembered the pain and my screaming after which everything else was hazy. I groaned as the carriage lurched slightly and immediately the hand that was caressing my hair, wrapped around my stomach protectively from preventing a fall. The pain had dulled and my mind cleared gradually. "Damian?" I called, knowing that no one else would tend to me like he did. No one else would dare to. "Yes?" came the soft reply. Something had shifted between the two of us. Even though we had confessed, we never got to talk about it after that. The rhythmic sound of the wheels and the hooves made me feel drowsy."What happened?" I asked. My tongue felt too heavy for wor

  • Bride of the Vampire Lord   35. A Well-wisher

MyraThe air in the room shifted as if warmed by our desires. I swallowed nervously as I looked at my mate, his gaze clouded with love and lust. I nodded jerkily, lowering my gaze, suddenly feeling shy. The 'feelings' and 'emotions' hadn't receded yet, I was thankful for that. I felt Damian's hand around the nape of my neck. He tilted my face and murmured huskily, "Shall we?" At the back of my mind, I knew this was his way of asking permission even if we were mates.I answered him by weaving my fingers through his hair and bringing our lips together. Damian was a handsome man and I had always felt attracted to him. Our lips moved in sync, his fingers clenched and unclenched pulling me even closer. He squeezed my waist lightly, making me gasp. His tongue slipped into my mouth, exploring every orifice. I tilted my head back further, pulling his hair as the kiss grew heated. The hand on my nape glided down and belatedly I realised his f

DamianPocketing the note, I padded to the kitchen where Andrew had left some rations. I took the food upstairs and entered the room. Myra was still sleeping peacefully. I admire her sleeping form for a moment from the doorway. A slender bare arm splayed on the side where I had been half-sitting sometime ago, her lips slightly parted and her bare shoulder adorned by a few fading marks peek from the covers. Her skin looked pale against the dark covers. I lit a few candles to chase away the darkness, gradually setting in the room. I placed the tray on the bedside table and gently shook her awake. She blinked her eyes open, a languid smile blooming on her lips. I mirrored back her smile and bend down to kiss her lips softly. "I brought food," I murmured against her lips. She hummed in contentment. She sat up, the bed covers pooling to her waist, I drank in the sight — her bare torso, covered only by her cascading brown tresses, her neck baring

DamianI have rarely been taken off guard, have rarely become stupefied but at this moment, I was. I stood rooted to my spot. I was highly aware of Myra's weighing gaze at the back of my head but I was too dumbstruck to do much. I hadn't seen him since...it's been years maybe. Appearance-wise he hadn't changed, he looked more roguish though with his shabby overcoat and frayed breeches, but his golden eyes were sharp as ever. A smile grazed his lips as he stared at me."We meet after a long time, Raul." He walked up to me until he was just one step shy from invading my personal space. "Connor," I uttered. I didn't know I would ever see him again, not after what I did to his mate.He nodded. "You haven't forgotten me then? That's good to know," His smile remained in its place but I could detect the edge and the iciness in it. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why did you want to meet me?" I asked, partially shielding Myra. If he had received th

MyraMy mind stuttered at the information. He killed someone? His friend on top of that? I stared at him for the longest of time as he averted his gaze and opted to look at the wall instead. I could understand that at some point he might have regretted following the High Queen's decision."When you...after you did that...did you feel anything?" I just wanted him to nod and say 'yes'. Even though I knew that the Damian before I met and the Damian now were vastly different, I still wanted to know that he had an iota of goodness. He shook his head slowly. "I wasn't so forgiving and neither I felt regret." I did not comment nor reply to this confession. I did not pull away from his grasp because I understood that if not at that time but sometimes along the way, he must have felt the wrongness of his deed."Why are you telling me this?" I asked in a steady voice. He blinked and turned his head. "Because I want you to know who he is, Connor and

It wasn't possible unless...No, Andrew wouldn't divulge a thing, even if his life was on the line."Why are you here?" I asked impatiently. When Connor knocked on the door this morning, I had almost ripped out his throat, thinking it was some imposter. Then he asked for a cup of tea from Myra, who had come downstairs as well and refused to answer any question until now."I realised that talking in the middle of the woods was a dangerous thing, especially now that both of you are fugitives like me," he explained, his tone held a hint of sarcasm which grated my skin. Damian My threat had its desired effect. She paled, her eyes turned fearful as she staggered back, as if he was about to attack her. "Who-who told you such lies?! I have one no such thing!" My gaze did not waver, but hers averted. Her clenched fists shook with anger. Myra's grip on my arm tightened. "If you haven't then why aren't you looking me in the eye?" I asked. "For all this time, I have been dwelling on grief and guilt. I have regretted nothing more than the heinous act I had committed. Do you know how many nights? Have roamed the woods, unable to find peace anywhere? How I segregated myself from the lot so that I wouldn't have to face something like that again? Do you?" My voice had risen several octaves with each unanswered question, which is why the silence that followed felt jarring. "I..." she seemed o be at a loss for words. I could see how her lips had thinned, how her cheeks had paled and how her jaw had tightened.

DamianRage engulfed every vein in my body. How dare he? I lived with the guilt of killing a dear friend for as long as I could remember, and now, he is telling me that he manipulated me to do so? that I was made to kill someone? Before I knew it, I was charging towards him. I watched as Connor's. eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he retaliated. I punched his face before he could make the first move, after all, I was the Nocturnal between the two. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Greyson approaching. But before he could take any further steps, Myra attacked him. I couldn't help, but smirk, feeling proud o my mate for acting quickly.I barely managed to dodge the spell that was directed at me. But Andrew deflected it with a spell of his own. I watched Myra clearly having the upper hand in the fight. Hybrids were strong like that. However, her moves were a bit sluggish. Myra My eyes darted towards Nora, who had stiffened as well. Her body language conveyed that it was not Connor, and I didn't know whether to be happy about it. And it was then that his scent wafted into my nostrils. Damian. Dread and happiness amalgamated inside me, coiling and wounding around my dead heart. Nora rushed to the door. I couldn't move an inch, even if I wanted to. "Please, no!" I shouted, but she was out of the door. I tried to rankle the binds but only managed to get nicked by the dagger. It burned the area. I hissed in pain and backed away. I feared the worst because I didn't what Nora could do. The urge to cry increased. But that would be fruitless, given how I wouldn't be able to cry anymore. The burn on my neck did not even seem to bother me now. I eagerly stared at the doorway, and then I felt myself sag in the chair with relief when Damian entered through the door. Andrew followed him in. My mate's eyes

Damian"Sire, I beg you to calm down," Andrew said placidly after hearing a sickening crack on the wooden table. My anger did not simmer down. All I wanted to do was rip out Connor's throat and send him to his beloved."Did you get any intel?""I... think that she must have been taken to the plague village," he replied carefully. I frowned and stood up from the chair. The living room rarely resembled like one anymore, but I hardly cared for decorum."You mean the abandoned village near Shadowwick?" I asked. Andrew gave a slow nod. "It's a possibility, and I also heard from the night watchers that they had seen a carriage drive in that direction. The occurrence was unfamiliar since hardly anyone goes there and there is no other stop in between. It was highly possible Shadowwick was not far from here. • Bride of the Vampire Lord   42. Betrayal

DamianDread coursed through my body as I scanned the entire house. It wasn't even that big, comprising only two floors and an attic. I knew she wasn't here. I couldn't sense her. "Sire, I assume Connor was here. And another person," Andrew said. His voice tight. I clenched my fists. I knew it! I knew he wasn't as honest as he appeared to be. And yet...I threw the nearest thing across the floor. The ornate vase shattered into pieces. "Sire, you must calm down. We need to find Lady Myra." I heard Andrew's tentative tone. He knew my anger could turn ugly and it will when I meet Connor who dared to take my mate."Sire?" Andrew handed me a letter. "I found it on the mantel," he said. I snatched the letter and tore it open. I was certain it was written by Connor.[Dear Raul,If you have not already guessed it, then let me tell you, I have your mate. I must say that she is feisty. Put up quite a fight. But thanks to my slave

MyraI stared out of the window, into the dark woods. Damian had gone to meet Andrew, and I was awaiting his return eagerly. As time passed, my anxiousness started increasing as well. He had promised that he would come back before the nightfall...I paced around the room, feeling like a caged animal almost since he had strictly prohibited me from going out. Despite being an immortal now, I feared for his life. A bitter chuckle slipped out of my lips. Life? A useless word for me now. Yet I feared for Damian. For what he might encounter, or rather whom he might encounter.I decided to leave the confines of our room and go downstairs. The house was warded anyway. Damian had said that if someone came by, I would be able to see them but they wouldn't. They would only see a dilapidated house. I did not question his faith in Andrew who apparently was a warlock. I went and sat on the settee, my gaze pinned to the window. My thoughts wandered to Co

DamianI stared, absolutely stunned and amazed, at the tiny village that was nestled within the deep woods. Myra, too, looked around in awe. "Are they all...?" Connor nodded, answering my unfinished question. Myra walked ahead. I saw some women looking at us suspiciously, almost warily, if I dare say. I could understand the reason behind such dubious glances and wary flickers of gazes. They could sense that I am a Royal. All the vampires can sense another's rank if they had one."Don't worry, they are friends," Connor said aloud, an affable grin slipping on his lips. It was a reassuring smile, a silent promise of assurance. But most of them who had been outside having scurried inside their houses. Connor looked at me apologetically. I stared back impassively. I was still cautious of him. He was the man whose lover I had killed. I would never forget Fredrick's solemn gaze and the deep-seated agony inside. Even if he looked harmless, there was no w
