Chapter 67

"Here, try this,"

Paige shifted the dish containing the weird food towards me and I held back a grimace. I must not have hidden my discontent well thought because she snorted, picking up a fork and taking a small piece from the china,

"It's not poisonous, Dee," She drawled, snickering when I narrowed my eyes at her, "Try it and you'll see."

I hesitated, the red syrup on top of what looked like bacon strips was strange to me. I didn't even understand what the waiter called the meal, it sounded foreign. After a moment of contemplation, I slowly reached for my fork and took the tiniest piece I could manage before putting it into my mouth.

The burst of flavour hit me the second it landed on my tongue making my eyes flare open. Paige snickered again, relaxing into her chair as she watched me,

"So?" She probed, looking too smug, "Wonderful, isn't it?"

I nodded wordlessly, taking another bite and then another and another, until my mouth was full and there was no space left. Paige laughed lo
