Dale’s POV

My fingers paused over her stomach, and she held her breath.

Amber was beautiful. Despite the fact that she was malnourished and her skin was broken to the point that it was almost beyond repair, one could still see the beauty in her. Once she filled out, she was going to be one of the most beautiful women I ever met, and that was a fact.

“Breathe, Amber, I whispered.

“Breathe.”I could hear her heart as it hammered against the cages of her ribs, and I could almost feel the tears as they rolled down her face.

Gently, I wiped it away. Her eyes flashed open, locking onto mine before she lowered them again.I felt the aching need to reach under her chin and tilt her head up till I was looking into those golden irises, but I held myself back; for some reason, she was in pain, and I could tell that it was not from her injuries.

‘Mate,’ my wolf growled. ‘Mate.’I paused, wondering why he was sensing the mate bond. It was supposed to be impossible to feel our bond considering

Dale’s POV The moon priestess was right. Skin-to-skin contact did help Amber’s wolf to deal with the mate bond, and in no time, the pain was almost gone, and she was sleeping like a baby in my arms. Janine had helped as well, stuffing Amber up with different kinds of concoctions that it was hard to tell what worked in the end. “How long has her wolf been bound like this?” The priestess asked, pulling me from my daze. I glanced at Amber—she looked beautiful when she slept—and wondered why someone would do this to her. The fact that her wolf could be quite strong could not be the only reason.I shrugged. “I’m guessing since she met her wolf.” It did look like it had been going on for a long time. Amber had no clue she had a wolf when I met her. “Or before that. She used to believe she was wolf-less.” Maybe she still did. “Then it is a good thing you found her. If her wolf isn’t bound before the next culling, she might die. I can only imagine what pain she has been going through

Amber’s POV “Mate.” My heart skipped at the mention of that word. In fact, ever since waking up and finding myself in the same bed as him, my body has been going through a lot of phases. My stomach danced with butterflies when he pulled me to sit on his thighs, and now that his eyes were boring into mine with the kind of intensity hot lava used to melt iron, I couldn’t bring myself to look away. His fingers traced my scars—the ones that were healed—and his lips parted slightly. If I concentrated, I could almost feel that pull that I had felt before. It had been mixed with the pain before, but it was there; I had felt it.It proved I had a wolf. Alpha Dale had not been lying. I really did have a wolf, although I did not want to think about why someone would go as far as binding that wolf in and letting me believe I had no wolf for so many years. The fact that I may have found my mate was something I could not stop thinking of, and he was the most handsome man I ever laid eyes on. He

Amber’s POV The temperature in the room dropped. A chill raced through my spine. Tension around the room was palpable, but Eric was still oblivious to what was happening, or was it just me reading meaning into things?Who was Mallory? And why was everyone reacting the way they did to her name?Breakfast was quiet after that. No one said a word about Mallory, but I did notice that Alpha Dale pulled his brother to one side after breakfast. Their exchange was too low for me to make out the words they said, but Alpha Dale’s eyes narrowed every now and then, and Eric maintained his smug grin. Janine was busy with the beta, and I had no idea what to do. I paused at the door, wondering if I should return to my room or wander aimlessly. What else was there that I could do? Glancing back, I caught Janine waving at me, and then she began walking my way.“Are you okay?” her eyes flashed as she stopped in front of me. Maintaining eyes contact was still hard for me so I lowered my head.“I

Amber’s POV When Alpha Dale returned to the room, he was positively furious. His eyes softened when he saw me—it seemed as though he had completely forgotten I was here—but I still could see past the mask he was struggling to put on. Taking a seat next to me on the couch, he placed his head on my thighs and closed his eyes. I wanted to take care of him the way he took care of me, and probably this was the only way I could do it. Besides, I did not feel the need to push him away or complain. Was Mallory still here? I glanced at the door, wondering how their conversation had gone after that. Did Eric finally realize what was going on? Was anyone going to tell him? Did they already tell him? What was his reaction? Was Mallory really here because she wanted to get back with Alpha Dale? Could I fight for Alpha Dale?I had so many questions, but I knew I wasn’t getting any answers anytime soon. Alpha Dale was sleeping faster than I could say Jack, but while he slept, pain ricoc

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   Finding Answers

Dale’s POV Leaving our shared bedroom, I found Janine hovering just outside the door. Concern was etched on her face, and her eyes widened when she saw me. Beta Trent was with me, but as usual, he was relaxed and composed, only standing straight as he saw me come out. “How is she?” Janine demanded. “Asleep.” I answered. “If she keeps being in pain like this…” I trailed off, unable to make myself say the words. Amber’s health was quickly declining, and if something was not done about it soon, I hated to think what would happen.A puzzled expression crossed her face. “What is it, Alpha?”I took a deep breath in. “Amber’s health is deteriorating quickly. We have to find a way to unbind her wolf before it’s too late.”I scratched my quickly growing stubble. I knew I should shave soon, but I could just find the time to do it, not with all that was going on. I couldn’t sleep, and although we were still getting to know each other, being away from her while she slept felt odd.“What

Dale’s POV Mallory leaned against the wall outside my room with a suggestive smirk on her face. One look at her and I could tell what she was thinking, but it was never going to happen. Her smile widened, and she tilted her head back. “Is this any way to treat an old fling, Alpha Dale? ”I scoffed. “You and I were a mistake. One I regret making. ”Her smile did not falter, but her stance did, and suddenly she was standing too close to me that was acceptable. My wolf growled his warning, pushing her back with a warning glare. “You seem awfully protective of that weak girl. She’s so weak; are you sure she really is your mate? ”I stiffened, clenching my fist to keep my wolf from breaking through my control. “If you know how close I am to losing control of my wolf, who isn’t fond of you, you will stay out of my business and keep my mate’s name out of your mouth. ”Mallory chuckled. It was not a reaction I was expecting, but this was Mallory, and I should not be surprised. “I mean

Amber’s POV The scent of smoke overwhelmed my respiratory organs, suffocating me from the inside. A smaller version of me stood in the middle of a burning city. My tiny hands trembled at my sides. The sky was colored with red and orange, a mirror of the horror that was going on around me. Fear and tears closed my vision as I stared at the fire, which was destroying everything in its path. Bodies were scattered everywhere in the street. Someone was calling my name, but I couldn’t bring myself to move. I knew I needed to move, but I couldn’t look away from the horror I had caused. Yes, I knew this was my doing. Yes, I did this. I did this, and I was going to do more. I heard the woman’s voice before I saw her. Her screams pierced through my ears and heart, pulling my attention to the people who were running towards me. Somehow, I knew what would happen if they came any closer. My wolf—at that young age, I already had my wolf—recognized them as a threat.Slowly, I raised my hands

Amber’s POV The next days and weeks that followed were mostly uneventful, save for the bouts of pain that were becoming more and more severe and my constant run-ins with Mallory. I had no idea what she wanted from me or what her qualm was with me, but it was beginning to unnerve me. Alpha Dale was always busy running pack business that I barely got to see him, and when I did see him, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was avoiding me. Did I do something wrong? Was this whole inaccessible mate thing beginning to piss him off?Janine mentioned on multiple occasions that he was trying to find a way to break the binding without hurting me, and he kept hitting walls. Was that why? Maybe he finally realized I was a lost cause and was trying to let me off. Crossing the foyer, I waited ten seconds before I began a slow walk through the hallway that led to Alpha Dale’s office. Since my arrival here, I could count how many times I had visited this wing of the mansion. I never came

Amber’s POV My body was on fire. Not from the scorching sun or the heat that caused sweat to run down my blistering skin. It’s been three days since they tied me here, and since then, I’ve been flogged, stoned, spat on, growled at, clawed, and subjected to every horrible thing imaginable. Rope dug into my hands and legs, and my broken skin and the sweat that rolled down my body made everything worse. I was thirsty, but I couldn’t ask anyone to get me water. Not with how swollen my tongue was. It’s been only three days, and it already felt like hell; Alpha Derrick had decreed this punishment was to go on for seven days _if I even survived it. On day one, I had simply been a mode of entertainment for the pack. They all came to watch me as I suffered. I couldn’t see them, but I could hear their arrogant chatters and their scornful judgement. Of course, I was the one at fault. I had tried to ‘run away.’ On the second day, I had begun regaining my vision, and that was when Celia vi

Yeti’s POV My mother was lying to ne about working with Alpha Derrick. I knew I needed to tell someone but this was my mother we were talking about and I could be wrong. Still, I had seen her use her abilities when she said she wasn’t working with Alpha Dale. Clearly heard the lie. What did that mean? Was she still working with him or was she hiding something? Whatever it was, I didn’t want to find out and I didn’t want the others to find out as well. I sighed heavily, stumbling back when I felt the priestess’s eyes on me. My mother had left in a hurry an hour ago and the priestess had taken her place. “Is she going to be aright?” I asked, trying to shake the feeling that her stare was pressing inside me. for some reason, I felt guilty, exposed. Like she could see my deepest, darkest secrets. “What did you see, child?” she voiced, taking a seat on the chair beside Amber’s bed. I know you saw something that day. Was it one of her memories?” I glanced at Janine whose eyes were n

Yeti’s POV Alpha Dale was a mess. I saw him breaking apart in front of me, but I could only watch and do nothing to help him. It squeezed at my heart. I knew how bad it was to feel… powerless. Especially for a man like him who had all the power in the world. Seeing your loved one suffer was… well. A punishment I didn’t want to endure. Janine was not taking this well either. Earlier, I had had to watch her argue and then fight with Alpha Dale. I had no idea what it was about, but I knew it had something to do with that uncle of his and the stupid council. I clenched my fist as I thought of them. They did this to her. They put Amber in this state. She was finally healing, and they sent her spiraling over the edge. I was going to—I didn’t realize I was gritting my teeth or that my abilities were spilling out of me until I felt a firm but warm touch on my shoulder. I blinked, looking up to meet my mother’s warm gaze. I sighed, and she sighed as well. Removing her hand from my

Amber’s POV The coppery taste of blood in my mouth made bile rise in my stomach. My head ached. My body felt like it was on fire, and I was sure I was close to becoming unconscious. I struggled with it, praying I didn’t become unconscious in these circumstances. Through my now swelling eyelids, I peeked up at Lydia and the man who were deep in conversation. If I became unconscious, they’d definitely kill me without hearing my side of the story. I laughed internally at my foolishness. They were going to kill me with or without hearing my side of the story. I was a slave. Lydia was a pack member, and worse, she was very close to the Alpha. It was clear the man already believed her words over mine. I needed to run away, to hide until I figured out what to do and how to get out of this mess, but my body was too weak to listen to my mind. I knew what was going to happen. What usually happened to runaways. They died. Simple. The patrol guards usually shot them in their spot, and

Amber’s POV Something was wrong. Something was horribly wrong, but I couldn’t place my fingers on it. I thought hard about everything. About Alpha Derrick’s word—threat. I thought about my place in this pack. I even considered running away, but I shook that last thought away. I was not ready for the consequences of becoming a rogue. Not having a pack affiliation—no matter how thinly stretched it was—would do me no good. I was better off here. I nodded with a convinced nod. No matter how badly they treated me, this was my home. The only one I knew—although I didn’t love—but leaving here scared the hell out of me. People out there could be worse than—The sound of a familiar voice startled me out of my thoughts, and I bit the inside of my cheek as Lydia suddenly appeared in the kitchen area. Becca, an omega who worked in the kitchen as well, spared me a pitiful glance before shuffling out of the space around me. “Do you want to tell me you did not hear me calling you three go

Present Time Dale’s POV The clamor reached me even before Trent’s hurried knock on my office door. His expression was frightened—I knew only a handful of people who could make my beta frightened—and his eyes were wide as he blurted out. “Alpha Dale, it’s Amber. She’s losing control. The whole infirmary is in chaos. ”I was on my feet before the last words made it out of his mouth. My wolf had been giving me warning signals since, but I was in the middle of… I didn’t think…“Fuck!” I started, breaking into a run immediately I was out of my office doors. I could tell Trent and the others were struggling to keep pace, but I was faster. My wolf was hounding us to get to our mate in time. The bond between me and Amber was practically screaming, buzzing with her pain and anger, so raw that it made my head hurt. There was noise everywhere, but the thudding of my heartbeat drowned everything out. All I could think was Amber and my fucking uncle. This was exactly what he wanted. I

Amber’s POV I knew I was in trouble, and like most times, I wasn’t sure what trouble I was in or what punishment I would get. The moment I stepped into Alpha Derrick’s office, she shut it with a force that rattled my bones. Flinching, I stumbled back, bracing myself for whatever punishment he was about to unleash. “Sit!” he snapped. My knees buckled before I even reached the chair. I sank into it, wincing as the cold, hard surface dug into my skin. Alpha Derrick remained standing, looming over me with cold, calculating eyes. In this pose, he looked like a predator who just caught prey in his trap. “I’m going to make this quick, Amber.” His voice was clipped, each word dripping with irritation and resentment. “Did you get your wolf? ”The question slammed into me like a fist to the gut. Shame clawed at my throat, and I dipped my gaze to my trembling hands. Twisting and untwisting my fingers as if I could wring the answers out of them. “No,” I breathed. Alpha Derrick released a

Amber’s POV The trek to Lydia’s home was agonizing. Every inch of my body ached, my head pounded with the force of a thousand men, and the world tilted with every step I took. My vision narrowed, blurring in and out until I was sure I would collapse before I got to where I was going. When I finally stood in front of her door, my knees felt like they would give out beneath me, and I had the urge to double down and pour out the content of my intestines. The thought of the hell Lydia would put me in stayed with me, and I swallowed back my gut, praying silently that it didn’t spill out when I was still here. Taking a deep breath in, I knocked and waited. Her voice filtered to my ears a minute later. “Come in. ”Hesitantly, I swung the door open and stepped in. Her eyes narrowed as soon as they landed on me, and she stood from the vanity dresser she had been looking in to pin me with a loathly glare. “I see Alpha Derrick let you out.” She sneered. “He shouldn’t have. Amber’s POV Ten years ago My body was broken, and I was nothing but a heap of skin and broken bones sprawled against the filthy, dirt floor. The dim room stank of human waste, suffering, and death, and cold seeped into my bones, no matter how much I squeezed myself like a ball. I could hardly tell how much time has passed since they dragged me in here. Hunger and starvation wrecked through my already broken body, and I was sure that if this went on for a few more days, I was going to die. Not that I had died the other eight times they put me in here with the same treatment. Just like now, I was sure I was going to die then, but they always came to get me out before my body finally gave up. This time though, I was sure they had abandoned me here. How long ago was it since I saw sunlight? I could hardly remember. It felt like months. My throat was parched to the point it felt like a needle piercing my neck. My tongue was so swollen it was like it was permanently stuck to the roo
