Emily's POV

The moment they were out of earshot, my phone buzzed in my hand. Adrian’s name lit up the screen, and I felt my cheeks warm involuntarily. I swiped to answer, barely managing to steady my voice.

“Hello.”

“You sound pleased,” Adrian said, his voice smooth and deep, the kind of tone that always set my nerves alight. “Let me guess—you tore him to shreds in that meeting, didn’t you?”

I bit my lip, trying not to sound too proud. “How did you know?”

A low chuckle vibrated through the line, sending a shiver down my spine. “I always knew you were exceptional, Emily,” he said, his voice dropping an octave. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you when I first met you, and you proved me right in bed. In fact…” He paused, letting his words linger like a teasing caress.

“Adrian, stop,” I whispered, feeling heat flood my cheeks.

“I’m not done,” he continued, his voice like honey. “You’re exceptional everywhere, Emily. And now, even in the workplace. Tell me—” his tone turned playful, but th

Adrian’s jaw tightened, and I could see his fingers gripping the armrests a little harder.“You’re going to kill me,” he muttered, his gaze following the movement of my hands as I worked my way down the blouse.“No,” I said with a smirk. “I’m going to reward you.”I let the blouse slide off my shoulders, leaving it to pool on the floor behind me. • Bound to the Ruthless Billionaire   Chapter 62 - Double Date

Emily’s POVThe warm glow of the restaurant lights reflected off the wine glasses, casting a cozy ambiance over our table. Adrian had insisted on a double date with Claire and Vincent tonight, and while I loved seeing Claire happy, there was something about the way she avoided meeting my eyes that set me on edge."Are you okay?" I mouthed to her as Adrian and Vincent exchanged friendly banter about work. Claire smiled, but it was thin and brittle, as if the smallest nudge could shatter it."I'm fine," she whispered back. Her tone didn’t convince me.The waiter came by, serving our entrees. Claire poked at her food, and I knew she was far from fine. Then, as if summoning her courage, she looked at Vincent.“I need to say something,” she began, her voice shaky. Adrian fell silent, sensing the change in the air. I put my fork down and reached for Claire’s hand beneath the table.“Go ahead,” Vincent said gently, his dark eyes steady on her.Claire drew a deep breath, her free hand cradlin

Adrian’s POVSitting across from Emily, I couldn’t help but marvel at how utterly radiant she looked. Her laughter danced through the air, melodic and carefree, as she nudged Claire with a joke. Watching her with her best friend, I saw another side of her—one unburdened, glowing with a lightness I hadn’t realized I’d been desperate to protect. This was why I brought her here. Not for the food, not for the setting, but for this. For her to be surrounded by the people she loved, the people who loved her back.Vincent leaned closer to Claire, whispering something that made her roll her eyes, though the faint blush on her cheeks betrayed her amusement. For a man as bold as Vincent, his quiet tenderness toward Claire was striking. He wasn’t trying to steal the spotlight tonight, which was uncharacteristic for him.“Earth to Adrian,” Emily teased, snapping me out of my thoughts. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. “Are you going to tell us what’s on your mind, or should I order you another dri

My thoughts churned like a storm, threatening to drown me. I finally broke the silence, my voice low and gruff."I went to see the Grahams yesterday," I said, watching as Vincent's brows furrowed. "I told them I couldn’t go through with Bianca’s demands. That any agreement we had with their family died with Samantha."Vincent leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "And? How did they take it?"A bitter laugh escaped me. "They dismissed me like I was some rebellious teenager refusing to follow orders. Told me Samantha’s death is in the past, that Bianca wants this, a

Emily’s POVSeeing Adrian like this—vulnerable, raw, and on the verge of breaking—filled me with a sadness I couldn’t put into words. My strong, invincible man, the one who always protected me, now needed someone to protect him. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his temple gently.“You’re strong,” I whispered, stroking his cheek. “But I promise to be stronger for you.”His eyes glistened with unshed tears. It made my chest tighten. I had never seen him this way before, so human and exposed. I wiped a tear that slid down his cheek with my thumb, then tilted my head to tease him.“You know,” I said with a small smile, “I think your tears are more expensive than mermaid tears. You shouldn’t waste them.”Adrian chuckled low, but before I could say anything else, he cupped my face, his lips capturing mine in a deep, soul-searing kiss. He pressed me against the wall, his body heavy and warm against mine, and the kiss turned desperate, almost punishing. I could feel his emotions bleedi

Adrian’s POVThe cemetery was quiet, the air heavy with the faint scent of rain-soaked earth. Standing before the cold, gray headstone etched with my parents' names, I felt the weight of fifteen years lift off my shoulders. Emily stood just behind me, her hand warm and steady on my shoulder as I knelt to clear away the leaves that had gathered at the base of their grave.“I kept my promise,” I murmured, my voice barely audible in the stillness. “I found the truth. And I made sure they can’t hurt anyone else the way they hurt us.”Emily crouched beside me, her touch grounding me as she placed a bouquet of white lilies on the grave. “They’d be so proud of you, Adrian,” she said softly, her voice brimming with sincerity. “You’ve been through so much, but you turned it all into strength. That’s… that’s incredible.”Her words hit me harder than I expected, and for the first time in years, I felt a lump rise in my throat. Emily’s POV“You may now kiss the bride.”The pastor’s voice echoed through the garden venue, and as Adrian cupped my face with gentle, possessive hands, the world around us melted away. Everything—every face, every sound, every moment—blurred into insignificance, leaving just him and me in a universe of our own. His lips captured mine in a kiss so tender yet electrifying that it didn’t feel like the start of something new, but rather the continuation of something eternal. It was a promise, a silent declaration that the past no longer held me hostage. The applause that erupted around us was distant, muffled. Tears brimmed in my eyes, spilling over as our lips parted. But for the first time, these weren’t tears of heartbreak or regret. They were tears of unfiltered, unrestrained joy. This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a rebirth. The scars from my first marriage no longer stung as they once had. They were still there, faint and faded, but they no longer had power over me. This was my se

Marissa was beside me, her fiery gaze still locked on the door where the doctor had just exited. I could feel the heat of her anger radiating off her like a furnace. She was muttering curses under her breath, fuming about the person who had dared to lay a hand on her husband.I let out a deep breath, trying to remain calm. I knew I had to. I couldn’t afford to make her angrier, not now. She was already so close to snapping. Her temper was something I’d learned to fear. And right now, I had to navigate this minefield carefully—because I was the one who had planted the bomb.As soon as the door clicked shut behind the doctor, Marissa turned to me, her eyes blazing. "What happened, Larry?" she demanded, her voice sharp. "Tell me everything. I want the truth."I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry. I kn

Mirabel’s POVVincent’s mother entered the living room, a tray of fresh fruit in her hands. She smiled warmly at me, setting it down on the table in front of me. "You should relax, Mirabel," she said kindly, her tone motherly as she patted my shoulder. "Let me pamper you.""Thank you, Mother," I said, reverting back to the role I’d carefully crafted. I’d always called her "godmother," but now, with her affection and the way she had welcomed me back into the family, it seemed fitting to step up the intimacy. The word felt sweeter now, more genuine in my mind, but I kept my face neutral, feigning innocence. Her eyes softened. "You don't need to call me 'godmother' anymore. You can call me 'mother' from now on."I smiled, nodding as if her words were a blessing, though inwardly, I knew I had to play this part carefully. She was so eager to please, to believe the best in me. And that was exactly what I needed. I let my fingers graze the edge of the fruit bowl, eyes still on her, wondering

Surely, someone in this glamorous city would recognize my beauty and charm. But I had no plan—just desperation. For a month, I drifted from one extravagant party to another, mingling with powerful men. A few were intrigued by my looks and rising star status, but none saw me as more than a fleeting distraction.“You’re stunning, but let’s not pretend this is more than it is,” one man had told me, dismissing me like I was some common club girl.I hated the way they looked at me—like I was cheap. And as my pregnancy became harder to hide, their interest waned. I tried convincing myself that I could manage alone, but the truth was, I was sinking fast.By the end of the month, my options were gone, and my savings were dwindling. I have his mother wrapped around my finger, and Vincent... well, he’ll never know. Men like him don’t ask questions when the answers might inconvenience them.Still, as I stand in front of the ornate mirror in my suite, brushing a hand over my barely-there bump, memories of six months ago creep in, unbidden and relentless.Six Months AgoThe club was alive with electric energy, music thundering in time with my pulse. Neon lights danced across the packed room, blurring faces and distorting intentions. I sat in the VIP lounge, surrounded by sycophants who laughed too loudly and drank too much.“She’s getting too big for her boots, don’t you think?” Sandra, the loudest and most shameless of them all, leaned in, her voice dripping with malice.I didn’t have to ask who “she” was. Claire's POVThe road stretched endlessly before me, the headlights of passing cars flashing in fleeting bursts. The rhythmic hum of tires on asphalt, usually a soothing backdrop, grated on my fraying nerves. My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, the leather biting into my palms as I fought the nausea building in my stomach. My knuckles, pale and strained, were a testament to my stubbornness—I had been holding it in for too long. But I couldn’t anymore.I swerved onto the shoulder and threw the car into park. The engine’s low rumble seemed to mock me as I stumbled out, barely making it to the side of the road before doubling over. My body convulsed violently, the nausea clawing its way out of me in harsh, unrelenting waves. I clung to my knees, trembling as I retched until there was nothing left. When it finally subsided, I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and reached into my bag for the bottle of water I always kept.
