Marcus’s POV
I waited on the ground in the grand hall, Alpha Ethan had asked to speak with me. The anticipation was killing me. My knees were hurting and I was getting tired from all the waiting. After last night by sealing the deal with Alpha Logan I thought I would be getting a good job or something. I saved the pack from not being able to protect themselves. Then the sound of footsteps echoed through the air. I sat up straight and waited to know why I was called here.
“What the fuck were you thinking Beta?”
“Alpha.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind?” Ethan said then slapped me through the face.
I closed my eyes but didn’t dare to show pain, “Alpha, I didn’t have any other choice. Alpha Logan was planning on leaving and-“
“And you decided to offer your step-sister to our enemy?”
“Wait. I don’t understand. I thought you sent me there to keep them on our side.”
“Exactly. Not to fucking give one of our pack members to him. Even if she was useless. What kind of message will this send to our pack?”
“Sir, I did what I had to do to keep them on our side.”
“Well, you did a shitty job doing so.” He said then fell into his chair.
“Sir-“
“Just shut the fuck up. Sort out the mess that you have created. Because now every pack is going to think we will offer them a pack member if we need them on our side. If you don’t sort this out, then you can forget about being Beta anymore.”
“Alpha, you can’t-“
“Can’t what? I most certainly can. Now leave my sight.”
I nodded in agreement and left the grand hall. As I stepped out I saw Mia standing in the hallway. I looked away and walked past her, “What happened in there?”
“Nothing.”
“What am I supposed to tell Zack? Mm? He is going to kick us out if he finds out you were the one who offered his daughter to another pack.”
“Mom! Just shut up! I will sort it out.”
“Sometimes I wonder who the real disappointment in this family is.”
I turned around and slammed my mother against the wall, I stared into her eyes, “That useless mutt is. She never should have existed. Somedays I wonder why the fuck you married her useless father. You had to marry the Alpha instead. Then I wouldn’t have been in this situation.” Stepping back, I looked at her with anger running through my veins.
“Marcus-“
“Stop.” I said then walked away.
Making my way to my room, I fell onto my bed and stared at the roof. ‘What the fuck am I going to do? I need to figure out how I am going to get her back.’ My thoughts started to take over my mind, thinking how to fix this fuck up.
What felt like hours, my door swung open, “How fucking dare you? How dare you give my daughter to such a horrible man?”
“Zack-“ I said as I jumped up.
“Don’t! Just fucking don’t! You are worse than that man! How could you sell my flesh and blood to someone who will ruin her life?” He lifted his hand and I noticed a knife in his hand. But before he could swing, one of Ethan’s men tackled him to the floor. Ethan made his entrance.
“Good job men.” Ethan turned to face me, “You need to remember one thing Beta, you are mine. I own you. If anyone is going to hit you into a coma it will be me.” He turned his gaze to Zack, “Take him to the cellars. He will be there until his last breath.”
“Wait! No!”
“What did you just say?”
I watched as Zack tried to get loose from Ethan’s men’s grip, “You can’t. He-“
“He will pay for disrespecting me. And Beta, you better watch your tone towards me, if not you will join him.” He turned around and stopped in the doorway, “Oh, and Beta.”
“Yes Alpha…”
“I will not save you from him again. I will even give him a sword if I must. So, watch yourself. Sort out the shit that you had created or you will not walk out of the cellar alive.”
“Yes… Alpha.”
I watched as they carried Zack out of my room. My heart raced as I tried to catch my breath, the thought of almost being killed scared me. The thought of knowing I would be thrown in there with him if I didn’t get Veronica back scared me even more. I was a strong wolf, but Zack was much stronger than I was. I tried to fight him a year ago and I ended up in the hospital, with multiple cut wounds.
I knew I had grown stronger over the past year, but so did he. And Ethan was also stronger than me, stronger than anyone else in the pack. That is what made him the Alpha.
“Fuck you, Marcus! You never should have existed!” Then he groaned as one of the men threw a punch into his stomach. I looked away, unable to face him any longer. Zack had become more of a father to me than my real dad was.
Standing in the middle of the room waiting for everyone to leave, my legs finally got a motion to allow me to walk. As I closed the door, I fell to my knees. I knew who was to blame for all of this.
Veronica.
No matter how hard I tried to be the only one she always seems to find her way to ruin everything. “Veronica. You will fucking pay for this. I will never stop. I will ruin your life even if it means I need to kill you with my bare hands.”
Veronica’s POVPlacing my ear on the bathroom door to hear if Logan had taken me to my work. Yet, he did. With shaky hands I opened the door, peering out I saw the room was empty. Not even the curtains were moving. With a deep breath I stepped out, my feet sticking to the tile floors. I stood in front of my bed wondering if I should lay down or sleep on the mat that was placed next to it. “Why am I here? Why did Marcus make me believe that I was doing good by coming with Logan? I should have run away. Away from everyone and everything.” My voice was barely audible. Then a knock on my door made me startle. Making my heart beat extremely fast. “Who is it?” My voice shaking.“Miss Veronica, Alpha Logan had sent me to give you something. Can I come in?”“Um… Sure…”The door creaked open, and Henry poked his head through the opening. “I do apologise for the intrusion, but Alpha Logan requests your company in the dining hall in,” He looked at his watch, “Two hours time. Please take a nice
Veronica’s POVFalling onto my bed, I curled into a ball and tears just kept pouring out. The soft hum of the light filled the silence. It was late, and the moon cast a pale glow through the blinds, it casted painting stripes on the floor. I was trying to fall asleep but my thoughts kept drifting back to Logan. It was the first time he had raised his voice at me. Today had been the breaking point, with him snapping at me over something so stupid, so childish. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something much deeper was bothering him, and I don’t think it was the fact that I was underfed. It couldn’t be. And why would he care for me? Why would he want to be nice to someone that is nothing in a pack? A knock at the door snapped me back into reality. My heart raced as I stood up. I took a big breath and dried my tears and made my way across the room. I didn’t want to see anyone right now, especially not Logan. But the knock came again, more insistent this time. My hands trembling slight
Veronica’s POVMy eyes shot open as pain radiated up my leg the moment I tried to turn in bed. I blinked against the bright morning light that filtered through the curtains. My mind started playing back the event that happened the night before. ‘The fall in the forest. Can’t believe I was so stupid, I just had to stand still. Why didn’t I look where I was stepping? The sharp, twisting pain in my ankle as I fell to the ground.’I tried to sit up, but a stabbing pain shot up my leg making me wince. With a groan, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, gently testing my weight on the injured ankle. Nope. Not happening. I sank back into the soft mattress, frustrated I let out a loud sigh. Staring at the ceiling I heard the door creak open, startled, I sat up. An unfamiliar face stood in the doorframe, her silhouette sharp against the dim light of the hallway. Her eyes were cold, a predatory gleam in them. My pulse quickened for all the wrong reasons.“Hi?” My voice shaky.“You must be
Logan’s POVI sat in my study, I worked through the papers in front of me. Andrew gave a soft knock on the door and peered through the gap. Glancing up, I noticed he was anxious to tell me what he had discovered. “Enter Beta.” I said leaning back in my chair. He entered holding a file containing information I had asked for, but his face told me he had found more than we had anticipated. “Tell me. What did you find?” I leaned forwards resting my face on my fists, my interest peaked.Andrew cleared his throat, he glanced around as if the wall might hear, “Veronica’s past… It’s a bit complicated.” “Complicated? How?” “Well, her mother…”“Get to it Andrew.” “She wasn’t just the Luna of her pack. She was much more. Way more.” He said sitting down on the other side of my desk, “She… was a dream hopper.” The words hung in the air. I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my chin. Dream hoppers were rare, their abilities both praised and feared. To be able to control and traverse dreams gave o
Veronica’s POVA little glimpse of light shone through the curtains, shining right onto my face. I slowly started to wake up, rubbing my eyes I let out a yawn and let my arms fall onto the bed. I turned over and was greeted by an unexpected sight, a stunning dress hung over a chair that was standing in the corner of the room. Its delicate fabric caught the bright sunlight. Before I could admire the dress too much, a soft knock echoed through the room. The door slowly opened and a friendly face peaked in.“Good morning, Miss Veronica.” She greeted, her voice soft and warm, “May I help you get ready?”“Get ready?”“Oh, yes Miss. Alpha Logan has given me orders to help you get ready for the day he has planned for you.” She said as she started packing her things out on the dressing table.I nodded, and she gave me a hand to get out of bed. She led me to the chair placed in front of the mirror. As she worked on my makeup, the room filled with a faint scent of rosewater and lavender. Her ha
Logan’s POVAs we walked out of the dress shop, I couldn’t help but notice how skinny Veronica was when I placed my hand on her back. I glanced at her, but her eyes were fixed to the ground, she was lost in her own thoughts. It was understandable, today was overwhelming to her. She had never been to town and being around so many people. She had always been trapped away from society, only around people she knew.“Are you alright?” I asked softly. She looked up at me, her gaze didn’t meet mine, “I’m fine. Just processing everything.”I tugged my hands into my pocked, looking up at the sky, “That’s understandable. I get it. But there is one more thing that we have to do today.” It was silent, then I continued, “I want you to meet my pack.”Her eyes widened slightly, “Your pack?” She asked with hesitation.I nodded as I opened the car door for her, “Yes. You’ll be staying there, so it would just be fair for you to meet everyone.” She climbed in, and I made my way around the car and climbe
Logan’s POVI had gotten an invitation from Alpha Ethan, that he was requesting my presents. Already knowing what it would be about, I knew it was a risk going there. But as Alpha, I could hardly reject an invitation to go and see another Alpha regarding business. Leaving early, around six in the morning to be on time for the nine o’clock meeting. I was still tired from last night, going to sleep that late, but I was used to it, sleeping early wasn’t part of having the title as Alpha. As we drove onto the driveway, Ethan was waiting for me in the clearing, his posture was rigid and his eyes hard. He wasn’t one to hide his emotions well. You could always tell what he was feeling, even if it was heartache. But from what I could see he looked pissed. The instant he saw my car drive in, his eyes darkened even more.“Logan.” His voice greeted me as I stepped out.“Ethan.” I replied, my tone matching his. There was no point of fake friendliness. We both knew why I was there.“Let’s go to m
Marcus’s POVI sat in Ethan’s office, my heart pounding in my chest making it difficult to breathe. The air filled with tension, the kind that can make your skin crawl. I was ordered to meet with Ethan, and I knew exactly what this was about. Assuming the meeting with Alpha Logan went horribly wrong. Then the creek of the door behind me made me startle. Throwing myself around, my eyes met as the figure stepped in.“Alpha Ethan.” I quickly jumped to my feet, showing respect by bowing my head.“Marcus.” He began, his voice dangerously calm, “I’m assuming you know why you are here. Why I called you into my office.”I nodded, swallowing hard, “Yes, Alpha.”He grabbed my head and gave me an uneasy smile, before I knew it my head was against the table. Pain spiked through my face, “Logan has refused to return Veronica. Do you understand the gravity of the situation? The mess that you have caused?”I tried to open my eyes but he held me pinned down, placing more and more force, “I didn’t thi
