Chapter 39

Veronica’s POV

The sound of the machines beeping slowly woke me from my sleep, my eyes heavy as I struggled to open them. My body was frail, weakened by the wolfsbane in my system. I heard the machine beeping faster as fear kicked in. The fear of death. My breaths got fast, my heartbeat started to race. All my energy was drained but fear didn’t care.

A nurse came running in and calmed me down, she gave me some relaxers, I assume. She gave me a warm smile when the machines started to beep at a normal pace. I was left alone once again, I turned my head slowly and closed my eyes.

Then an unfamiliar voice spoke. “Hello my lovely.” Opening my eyes I started scanning the room, no one. I must be hallucinating, it had to be. “You’re not hallucinating dear.”

“Who… Who are you? Show yourself.” I demanded, my voice barely above whisper.

Hearing a soft chuckle, a sound that made me remain calm, “You’ve known me for a really long time. It just took me a bit longer to reveal myself.”
