Dominic's POV

I chose not to publicly reject Lila in front of the pack because I didn’t want to humiliate her.

Despite my efforts, word somehow got out, and she became the target of mockery.

Who gave them the right to treat her this way? It had to end—it was an affront to me as the Alpha.

I quickly mindlinked Jonathan, asking him to address the issue. I wouldn’t put up with such disrespect.

He confirmed my request, and I felt confident that he would handle it appropriately.

Lila had already faced so much in her life, and now she was dealing with an even more perilous situation due to the unexpected turn of events. She was now living among strangers against her will; that was a huge sacrifice in itself.

There wasn’t much I could do to help her feel comfortable, but her safety was my greatest concern.

As I left my parents’ cabin, I intended to head straight back to the pack house when I spotted him just a few feet from my car.

Instantly, my demeanor hardened.

“Dominic, I see you’ve c

Lila's POV The moment she asked me not to move an inch, I knew I was dead. My heart started beating fast and all kinds of thoughts spiraled in my mind. I ignored her warning and bolted out the front yard. I could swear I was almost out before I felt her hand on my hair, fear ran through me as a shiver ran down my spine. I yelped in pain because of how tight her grip was on my hair. “Lady, we can settle things without you grabbing my hair; that’s what cultured people do,” I said nervously, fear written on my face the moment I turned to see her bloodshot eyes. Was she that angry because of me, or was there more to it? I was still lost in thought before she forcefully yanked my hair backward all of a sudden, making me feel pain like my head was about to be removed from my head. I let out a deafening scream again, “What do you think you are doing? Do you even know who I am?” Maybe I shouldn’t have said that because it only made her drag my head down further. And before I could even rea

Lila's POV I noticed the way he placed his hands on his hips, releasing a deep sigh as if he hadn’t truly meant what he just said. The silence that hung in the air after his words allowed us to hear the sound of a needle hitting the ground. My chest continued to rise and fall forcefully, but it wasn’t synchronized with my heartbeat—it was racing so fast that I couldn’t gauge its pace. They had always told me this, how they regretted ever crossing paths with me—my foster mom, my dad, my friends, my first boyfriend, and now my mate. I feared I would experience a panic attack when memories of each of them expressing their regret about meeting me began to flood in, yet I followed the advice one of my therapists had given—I counted silently from one to ten in my mind, inhaling and exhaling until my breath became steady. “I apologize for causing trouble, but I still maintain that I did nothing wrong,” I said calmly, concealing the fact that I had just managed to suppress a rising p

Lila's POV “Lila?” I heard Jonathan's voice calling out to me, sensing I was drifting away from the conversation with Dominic. Panic hit me hard the moment I read the doctor’s text.Blame flooded my mind—I replayed every harsh word I had said to my mom, warning her that her drinking and smoking might someday lead to liver damage, and all the times I should have reached out to help her with her struggles but chose to look the other way.My heart raced, and the space around me felt like it was freezing over. I staggered back, my vision turning hazy.“I think something’s wrong with her,” Brian’s voice broke through as he held onto my arm, steadying me from falling. I couldn’t make out his features, but I heard the concern in his tone. I clutched my chest, overwhelmed by the suffocating knot in my heart. Groaning in pain, I felt like I was losing everything—my mind and my grip on reality.“Breathe into this,” Judith instructed, handing me a paper bag. I looked down and realized I was alr

Lila's POV “Hold on!” I interrupted him before he could end the call. With my heart racing and my voice trembling, I pleaded, “Please let me hear her voice; I need to know how she’s doing.” I needed to know if she truly had cancer because she might not last long based on how she had been handled. “He.. he..lloo.” My mom said, her voice was extremely shaky and hoarse. She must be hydrated. I felt a pang in my chest.“Mom, are you okay? How are you feeling?” I cried profusely. I didn’t expect that a day would come when I would be the one to put my mom in danger. She was right after all, I was the unluckiest thing that ever happened to her. “Is it true, Lila?” She cleared her throat, “That you have powers and you’re marrying a werewolf? Is that why you left home?” she questioned, coughing in between her words. I saw a few men we brought along from the pack trooping in, I guessed Dominic had mindlinked them. “I’m sorry Mom, I shouldn’t have left like that.” I apologized, even though I

“Silver bullets?” I asked Dominic, shaking in fear at the scene before me. My back was still against the wall we used as cover, and I watched as he bent over to check the lifeless body before us, horror cast on Dominic’s face as he slowly closed the man’s eyes with his hand. “I bet you didn’t see that coming Dominic.” The man in the mask called out. And his voice sent shivers down my spine. “You should have just come alone, Lila,” He continued, “why did you have to bring everyone here to die.” He finished off. The thought of everyone that came along with me dying utterly terrified me, my whole body began to shake. Dominic was still beside the dead man, he seemed to be lost in touch and shocked at the same time. I didn’t know how to console or sympathize with him, since he literally lost one of his warriors.“Let them go!” I moved away from the wall and proceeded to step forward. I didn’t know what I was doing then. Call it an act of bravery, but all I wanted was to get everyone out o

Dominic's POV I expected her to crumble at the news of her mother's condition but the only thing she did was let tears roll freely down her face. The moment Brian told me about her mom’s condition through the mind link, I was already thinking of ways to console her, but I wasn’t sure if I had the right to do so given the nature of our relationship. I wanted to hug her tightly and let her cry into my chest all she wanted.I wanted to place a gentle kiss on her forehead and assure her that everything will be okay.I wanted so badly to tell her that I was there for her. But the weight of the prophecy sat heavily upon my heart. I remember my conversation with Lauren after the revelation at my parents’ house.I probed her about why she kept that part of the prophecy from me, and she explained that she omitted it because she believed we could overcome our unfortunate fate. I wish it were that simple, but this isn’t a movie or a novel. This is reality. Prevention is better than a cure.

Lila's POV I stayed with my mom for over an hour before Brian convinced me to take a rest. He saw how pale my face had become, but he didn’t know there was a reason why I had that expression. My body’s temperature was weird, so he concluded I might be coming down with a fever or other type of sickness due to stress. I didn’t see Dominic when I left the room, so I headed for the pack house, where I met Judith and Jonathan. “Lila, are you okay?” Judith rushed towards me, holding my arm before letting it go in a rush. “Why are you cold and sweaty at the same time?” She asked, her eyes held onto confusion for a while. I didn’t respond. “Lila, is everything fine, and where’s Dominic?” Jonathan asked, placing his hands on his waist. He narrowed his eyes on me as if he were trying to see if there was something wrong with me. “I’m not feeling entitled or anything, but don’t you think you are doing a bad job at watching over the elemental?” I asked Judith, air-quoting the elemental. Lila's POV It happened when I was with my mom; I held onto her hand, blaming myself for not realizing her sickness earlier, even though I was a nurse. But at one point, I saw her at the time when she went to get diagnosed for the first time. It was like a trance. Funnily enough, it was where I worked—she must have chosen a day I was off duty at work. Judith saw her when she was coming out of the oncology ward. She approached her, and using her specialty as a nurse, she was able to figure out what she came to do. I thought I had imagined it, and I hoped it wasn’t true. But the moment Judith touched my arm after I entered the pack house, I saw it again. I saw how she asked if I was at home with my mom during my time off the next day. And it was at that point I knew I didn’t imagine it, I read her memory. “An elemental can read people’s memory?” Brian asked in shock, closing the gap between us, while Dominic took his time to close the gap. As expected, Dominic was the only one not

Victor's POV I couldn't help but wonder why Dominic didn’t suspect me at all, he must have really underestimated me. And that only made me furious. Call it an inferiority complex, but I do not like being looked down on. Luther informed me that Lila and Dominic kissed at the diner. How could they be in love when I was still struggling to deal with stigmatization? I had concluded that as long as I was still breathing, I wouldn’t watch them fall in love and get mated. I decided to instill a little bit of fear in Dominic, so I sent him a text. “What if he traces the number back to you?” Morgana asked, peeling the orange in her hands with all seriousness. Her fingers were long and painted in black with only the index fingers painted in red. What a weird way to show her personality.“He can’t. The phone belongs to a dead man.” I said, trying not to remember how I killed an innocent farmer, whose body is rotting below a strange tree in his farm. I bet he didn’t have a family that c

Lila's POV Dominic didn’t try to persuade or make me stay. He stared keenly at me for a long while, as if pondering over what I said.“Fine.” My heart skipped when he agreed.I didn't think he would let me have my way so easily.“I can leave?” I asked in surprise, just to be sure.“I didn't say you could leave.” He responded and I was taken aback.“You said fine, what did you mean?” I questioned further, a frown forming on my face.“You're not leaving; I'm leaving," he stated. Jonathan turned swiftly to look at him, his brow raised.“Alpha!” He called out as if trying to bring Dominic back to his senses.“Huh?” My eyes widened in the utmost confusion.Dominic turned to Jonathan and said, “I know what I'm doing.” Then he turned back to me.“I can't let you go out there, knowing fully well that people are waiting to get a hold of you.” He explained calmly, his eyes not leaving mine. I swallowed hard; he was right. The people who kidnapped my mom just to get to me, we still don't know

Dominic's POVMy wolf had been restless ever since I kissed Lila. I didn't expect to act on impulse like that—neither did he.All I knew was that I wanted to remind Juliana of where she stood, but what surprised me most was Lila retracting her kiss. Who does that? She continues to astonish me.Jonathan and I have finally narrowed down our hunt for the witches to three individuals, but records indicated that they were all deceased.Jonathan and I brainstormed, and it became clear that one of them must have faked her own death. We decided to trace their origins and see if they left any clues that could lead us to the truth behind their disappearances. As I checked my wristwatch, I realized Jonathan should have returned by now.Just then, he walked in with a strange expression on his face. It was evident he had some grim news.I leaned back in my seat, prepared for the confirmation of my worst fears.“They're all dead. Lila's POV Should I go to Dominic and ask him if what I heard from Julian is true or should I just sleep in my room and ponder on it by myself? There was warfare happening in my soul. Of course, I ended up pondering about it all night. And I finally concluded it was best I stayed away from Dominic. But I still gave myself the benefit of the doubt—I decided to ask Judith about it. Even if it meant guilt-tripping her until she talked, I planned to do it. Judith stopped working the moment she moved into the pack. She said it wasn’t her dream to be a nurse, but she had to deal with it because she had been protecting me. So, she started taking a course on fashion—it was her dream to become a fashion designer. Good for her, now she has a dream. I, on the other hand, still didn’t have a dream. I chose to become a nurse because it was well-paying, and it was the only stable job that could pay my mother’s debt and also grant me access to legalized loans. I chose nursing to survive. It

Juliana’s POV I couldn’t stop tears from rolling down my face. I knew Dominic had told me on several occasions, even before he met his mate, that I would never be more than a sister to him. We weren’t blood related so why should I be his sister? I remember how I used to follow him around when I was still a pup. It was uncommon for werewolves to joke about their child getting married to another wolf, knowing the wolf probably had a soulmate somewhere. But my dad wouldn’t stop talking about how nice it would be to have Dominic as his son-in-law. So, I grew up believing one day he would be mine. The moment I turned sixteen and I couldn’t smell him as my mate, I knew I’d have to double my effort in loving and trying to win his heart. And given the all-prophecy saga around his soulmate and how he was so not bothered about finding her from the get-go, I felt he was indeed finally going to notice me. But now what? Did he kiss her? How could he do that to me? I was certain he

Lila's POV Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one taken aback this time. How could someone be so shameless? I shook my head as I tried fanning myself with my hand to cool the hotness I felt from within. I turned to Brian, who also had a shocked expression. “Is this one of the rituals she does every year?” I asked out of deep curiosity.“No, this is new.” He replied in a low voice. He proceeded to take a sip from his cocktail, clearing his throat right after as if he had something to say. “Juliana, everyone is watching.” He sounded irritated. That was probably the first time I’d heard Brian sound like that. Juliana didn’t reply, but instead, her eyes were fixed on Dominic who was probably in a daze or unbothered by what just happened. Anyway, I couldn’t figure out what was going through his head at that point. I had to applaud his composure in my head. “She’s so annoying,” Brian muttered under his breath, but it felt like he said it on purpose. I could hear him ‘cause I was sitting c

Lila's POV “You are crazy Judith!” I said, throwing a pillow at her. What a ridiculous suggestion. I stood up and headed for the door. I swung it open and pointed outside. “You should take your leave if you have nothing useful to say,” I stated calmly. I needed to get rid of her before she polluted my mind. She kept laughing. She had been laughing after my exclamation; I knew she found it amusing, especially when she caught me blushing, too. She was beginning to get under my skin. “I was only joking. You shouldn’t be standing there.” She patted a spot next to her, and continued, “Come sit and let’s talk.” She raised her hands in the air as if she were surrendering herself. I rolled my eyes at her childishness. How was she different from Brian? But I could swear I’d kick Brian in his groin if he ever tried that shit with me. Instead of taking the spot she offered, I went to sit on the bed instead.“Now be serious,” I warned, my voice steady and stern. She dropped her hands, adju

They were too shocked to say anything. After that intense conversation, I retreated to my room.I wash away the day’s stress in a warm shower before sinking into the comfort of my bed. I lay on my stomach, the fabric of the sheets cool against my skin, hoping the cramping pain in my abdomen would subside soon.I heard a knock on my door, I decided not to answer, thinking whoever was at the door would leave if I didn’t respond. But I was wrong, the person kept knocking.Reluctantly, I peeled myself off the bed and walked over to the door, turning the handle to reveal Judith standing there, her expression a mixture of concern and determination.“Judith?” I asked in a soft voice, the surprise barely contained. Lila's POV Brian choked on the water he was drinking, spitting it out. Luckily, no one was close enough for the water to splash on them. My mouth widened in disbelief. Luis really said that. It wasn't new information, but his delivery was completely off.If it had been someone else saying it, I might have supported their point, but I couldn’t bring myself to agree with Luis. Though Dominic wasn't great to me, I would choose him over Luis— it was a choice of the lesser evil."Says who?" Dominic asked in a deep, authoritative tone, his hands calmly resting in his pockets. What trick was he trying to pull?It was already a known fact that we had rejected each other. I slipped my hand into my pocket as the pain in my stomach intensified.Luis shifted his gaze to me, “Lila, were you not rejected?” That bastard, why did he have to drag me into it? I laughed weirdly at Luis’s question, what was he expecting me to say? “Who told you I was rejected?” I asked without batting an eye. There w
