Lila's POV

I sat alone in my room, watching the rays of the moonlight sneak through the window.

I didn’t pull the curtain before going to bed and I was in too much pain to stand at that moment.

I didn’t know what was going on. Ever Since my powers came back, I had been having all kinds of pain surging through my body.

Apart from the feeling of hotness and coldness, I was feeling at the same time, I was also tormented by visions I neither understood nor could control.

I remember getting a glimpse into the memories of everybody who came in contact with me.

I had seen flashes of lost love, bittersweet moments of childhood laughter, and even hidden pains that lay buried beneath layers of smiles.

Those images crowded my mind like a restless tide.

I could see their faces, hear their voices, know their secrets, and their feelings—both joyful and sorrowful ones—tangled together until I struggled to distinguish my memories from their own.

The weight of these foreign memories was too mu

The night after I saw the vision of what would become of me if my powers consumed me, thinking straight became harder for me. I had to act like I was sleeping before Dominic could leave—I didn’t want to be near him. The story of him witnessing my horrific moments was terrifying. I remembered how my eyes glowed with darkness and the chilling sensation that I was losing control that accompanied the moment. I knew I was only a few steps away from becoming who I didn’t want to be—a very wicked person. And I didn’t know if I’d be able to hold on to myself any longer. Judith entered the room at that moment without knocking—maybe I should not have told her my passcode. Her presence was steady as the moon that had witnessed my terror the previous night. Her eyes, filled with both compassion and determination, told me that she wasn’t here to blame or chastise me. She had seen too much already, she knew the fight I was going to face wasn’t going to be an easy one, and she understood th

Lila's POV Not long after my episode, I began to feel a bit better; the elixir Judith gave to me was now working. I told her I wanted to sleep, even though she was reluctant to leave, she later left after much persuasion from me because I needed some time alone. I kept turning in bed even though the storm inside of me had been getting calm. I couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness and shame. How I would be neglected and become an outcast if I eventually became what I saw myself become through the mirror. Finally, sleep came, and it wasn’t as bad as I had expected it to be; instead, it was full of calm with a strange dream. I had a dream where a woman appeared to me. I found myself in an old house; the paint on the walls was peeling, and the roof was falling apart. I looked around carefully to see where I was, but it didn’t look familiar. I took careful steps towards the window that was draped in a black curtain. I was so close to the window when I heard a voice behind me. “Li

Lila's POV Maybe he was used to my unexpected kisses because he didn’t look surprised at all. I retraced my steps and lowered my head as I fiddled with my fingers. It wasn’t like I was feeling embarrassed or shy, but I was hoping he wouldn’t think I was shameless for throwing myself at him like that. I cleared my throat in an attempt to stop the silence between us. “It doesn’t mean anything or that I have an expectation. I just wanted to do it in case it might be my last chance.” I said, trying to make sure he didn’t get the wrong idea. But his quietness was more unnerving—how could he remain calm in such a situation?“It’s fine.” He said, his hands were now back in his pockets. “I’ll be away for some time.” He quickly added. And just like I had expected, he would be leaving. I really shouldn’t have asked that we be separated in the first place. “I’ll drop by often to see how you are doing though.” He swiftly added as if noticing the worry on my face. I smiled slightly at his

Dominic's POV I mindlinked Brian to keep Lila’s company for as long as he could. It appeared she was overthinking and given her state of mental health, I wouldn’t want her to feel more burdened. I couldn't stay with her because of work and our investigation—also our situation wouldn’t let us be together. I let out a sigh of uncertainty—who knew what was waiting ahead?“Have you sent anyone ahead to scout the area and see how much advantage we have? I do not want us to draw the local police.” I said to Jonathan, pointing to the map he handed to me before I stepped into the car. “Yes, I had Moore—our best tracker to see. He went there to blend in with the people living in the town, and since it’s an old town down the country, security is a bit loose there.” He explained carefully. It wasn’t like we were going to commit a crime, but that was how we had been living. We wouldn’t want to expose ourselves to the rest of the world. This reminds me of the story of the werewolf that got

Dominic's POV “What do you mean by you have dementia? You are a witch.” Jonathan retaliated. He looked rather annoyed than surprised. The fact Lila had been subjected to a few mental disorders made me find it plausible that she could have dementia. Jonathan was probably too blinded with rage to reason that far.“I guess that’s what happens when you keep looking into other’s memories for a long time.” She said, taking a deep breath after her words. “Maybe I shouldn’t have overdone it,” she continued, “now, I can’t tell my memories apart from others' memories. So subconsciously, I lock some of my memories away and claim to live the life I’ve never lived before. Do you know how excruciatingly painful that can be?” She asked tears welled up in her eyes. “How come you seem fine now?” Jonathan asked, looking at her skeptically.“Because you mentioned my husband.” She sniffed her nose, “He was the only reason I had to stay sane for a while and he was the reason why I started digging

Dominic's POV “How did you know your husband died?” I asked Morinda right after she mentioned her husband’s death. If she knew her husband was dead, why was she still going around asking about him? The more I thought of it, the more strange it sounded. “Werewolves are not the only ones with their souls connected to their lovers.” She leaned forward. “My husband was a wizard and we both got connected after making a blood covenant between ourselves. I could feel his pain and I could feel his joy.” She said, staring into space like she was trying not to picture what she was about to say. “And the night he died, I felt what he went through—it was antagonizing.” She finished, but not without letting out a deep breath. “You mean his death wasn’t natural but murder?” I asked her, my eyebrows furrowed in curiosity as I wondered how she must have felt. Would it be the same for Lila and I? When I die instead of her, would she feel the pain of the death I would be going through?“Yes. He

Lila's POV “I’m so sorry to hear that, Brian,” I said. My smile faltered already, and I couldn’t help but wonder how he managed to keep smiling despite having experienced such a tragic ordeal. If it were the former me, I’d have kept looking at him with probably teary eyes, telling him he has his friends and all that bullshit people use to console others. He waved his hands before me. “It’s fine, Lila. I’m okay now.” He smiled, returning his candy to his mouth. “You are the first person though.” He said, confusing me. “You didn’t look at me with pity.” He quickly added after noticing the questioning look on my face. “Because I understand. I just lost my mom, remember?” I smiled at him, and he gave me a big smile in return. “To those who have never lost someone dear to them, it’s just sympathy. But to us, it’s beyond sympathy, it’s like a void has been created in us and no amount of sorry or condolences can fill it up.” I said solemnly, trying not to sound pathetic and sad at the

Dominic's POV I kept thinking if I made the right decision on my way back to the pack with Morinda in the car with me. I couldn’t care less about her revenge. But the more I pondered on it, the more I saw how it was a win-win situation. She might not need Lila’s power because I signed a contract with her that I would help her with her revenge. Whoever killed her husband did deserve to be punished. “I’ve heard of Blackwood, but I didn’t know it would be this far,” Morinda commented on our journey. It was the first word she had said since we left her apartment. It was hard to convince her caregiver that we would be taking her with us. She thought we wanted to take advantage of her vulnerability. I wondered how she had lived with Morinda for six months without knowing her real identity. “What if she has a breakdown again and her dementia gets in the way of our plan?” Jonathan asked me through the mindlink. I lowered my head a bit, using my thumb to rub my temple. How come I didn’

Lila's POV I was a bit taken aback at her utterance. A girl her age shouldn't be thinking of revenge. And the way she spoke with so much determination made me wonder who had hurt this little girl so badly to make her reason this way.We found a table and sat, and then I asked her, “Take revenge on who?”“The people who killed my mother!” She spat, her voice laced with venom and her eyes shimmering with tears that she fought back. The pain of losing a mother at such a young age must have made her believe that someone was the cause.Sometimes, things like this just happen. Things beyond our control and we look for someone to blame it on, just to feel better.“You think your mother was murdered,” I said, even though I wanted to make it a question.“I know my mother was murdered.” She corrected, her tone growing colder. She seemed offended by my statement.Whoa! This kid is something else.“Oh,” I managed to say.She was silent for a while, “Do you have anyone in mind?” I asked her. Beca

And now that they stopped it, her powers are unlocked. Which was exactly what I wanted from the beginning.I was waiting for the best time to strike.“Morgana, this may be a little too extreme. I turned to face Judith.“Judith,” I called with a nervous laugh, hiding the uniform behind me.“You're back already?” I asked her.“I never left this place,” She responded as she moved slowly towards me. I suddenly shifted as I found her unusually intimidating.“You never did? Then why didn't I see you when I came out?” I bent my head to the side, feigning confusion.“Cut the crap, Lila,” She said as she stopped in front of me.“I honestly don't understand what you mean by crap, I just went out for a moment to get stuff. I told you to stop knocking; I would come out when I was ready; it's not my fault that you decided to ignore my warning and camp here.” I said, pretending to be upset.“I never knocked on your door.” She said, her gaze piercing through my skin. But over the phone, she said she did. Lila's POV The person stood about two tables from us. I couldn't recognize the person due to the gauze bandage that was wrapped all over his face and head. One eye had a plaster over it. He literally glared at me from one eye.He looked like Lazarus from the Bible story which was a bit laughable.“What are you looking at?” Brian asked, sensing my distraction.I gestured with my head and he followed the direction of my gaze and saw the person.“Who the hell is that?” He asked.“I have no idea,” I responded. Why would someone hold a grudge against someone they've never met before? Something seemed off.I stared at him trying to figure out how I had met him. To be honest, his figure looked quite familiar, but I couldn't just think of a name. Then it clicked, “Luis?” I called, not really sure if that's him. But considering the state I saw him the other day, it only made sense now.“That's Luis?” Brian asked, surprised. “Damn! They did him dirty.” I only hummed in response. He suddenly

I was about to have a panic attack.“What do we do?” I whispered, my voice breaking.“Don't do anything, I'll handle it.” With that we turned, it was Greg.“Is there a problem?” Brian asked, his hands sealed away in the pockets of his trousers.“Not really, I just need confirmation,” Greg said, his gaze on me the whole time; I put my head down, avoiding looking directly at him.“What confirmation?” Brian asked, his head held up, trying to match up Greg's energy.“Where are you headed?” Greg asked Brian, his voice stern and unfriendly.“To the hospital, do I need to report to you?” Brian shot back.Greg stood unfazed, “W

Lila's POV It's been ten days since Dominic traveled, and I've been doing my best to train.I've been able to master three elements: earth, fire, and air. My ability to manipulate water is still fluctuating.I went back to Morinda three days after our first try and I was able to do something.I never imagined that accepting my witch side would be more difficult than cultivating my powers as the elemental.I've been able to master a few spells, but sometimes they come on too strong, and I lose control. It's just frustrating how stressful it is.Eve never stopped to check on me, it's as if Dominic put her to it.I really enjoyed her company. We've been doing things together lately: cooking, washing, and so on.We went shopping at the Pack supermarket.Sometimes she would come watch me train just to cheer me up.I'm probably the luckiest girl in the world right now.I got dressed, ready to meet Judith for our session today. My phone buzzed and I looked to see Dominic’s number. I felt traumatized just by looking at it.Brian turned swiftly and came to me, saying, “I told you to stay back.” His expression was serious and his tone commanding.“What is it doing here?” I pointed to it, my finger slightly trembling.“I don't know but you can't go near it.” He patted me on the back slowly, but his palm was not gentle.“Don't touch it!” He suddenly yelled at Judith who flinched in realization. He ran to her and grabbed her, then pulled her to where I stood.“What were you thinking?” He yelled angrily. If they had just written the damn thing in English it would've been easier to recall.“Do you remember the title?” She asked politely.“Not really,” I responded. She said, “Well, do you remember anything that might help us find the book?”“I think so.” I said, “It has symbols and pictures; it's not written in the English language.” I described it as best as I could. She nodded and continued, “Your description matches a hieroglyphic book. Now she won't even say a word, just standing there and staring at me like there's poop on my face.I squeezed my face in disgust at the unpleasant smell of her incense.“Can you read my thoughts?” She suddenly asked out of the blue.“I'm not interested,” I replied bluntly.I kept wondering what a weak witch like her could teach me but I didn't have a better option. I would have to manage her.She sighed, “I was contemplating where to start, but your mind-reading ability is already advanced. We might just have to skip that for now and focu
