Mate

Cameron's Point Of View

It has been a week now since I last got her scent.

My mate.

The words flew right out of my mouth.

My mate.

It echoed more in my head as Vittorio taunted dreamily, making me swirl in disgust; he argued for days with me for losing her; finding a mate was the last thing on my plate. There was still more that needed to be done. For the first time in half a century, I'd gotten much closer to an answer.

Yes, 'It's been fifty years already'

My name's Cameron Donnelly, And I am a werewolf turned Vampire. Most people call me a Hybrid. I have existed for two decades and six years, but my kind were the werewolves for a longer time now after the mythological Lycans.

My Father, the Alpha King, along with my mother, the Luna Queen, died some years after I was born; I was only five. A flash of that day crept into my thoughts as I took a turn out to town to meet someone who I have searched for for many years now with hopes that she may have an answer in breaking the crescent curse that has plagued my kind for some years now.

I took another turn to the cafe where Mitch, my Beta, and Carter, my Delta, waited for me. Slowly my thoughts drifted to the past, my past. To the night where my parents had no other choice than to turn me.

I paused, recognizing a familiar scent. My wolf, Vittorio, growled in excitement.

"What was she doing here?" I questioned while Vittorio kept on chanting 'mate'. I alighted slowly from the car, trailing her scent as I stopped in my tracks. It came from the cafe where Mitch and Carter seemed to be waiting for me.

I walked further through the door as her scent hit me more gracefully. It was an intoxicating and alluring vanilla scent mixed with the calming sweet scent of roses.

My legs move with haste into the cafe, allowing Vittorio to search carefully for where the scent came from.

'Nothing... Nothing!' Vittorio growled yet again with frustration as her scent faded rather quickly.

Odd. Not that I cared, I brushed the back of my hair with my palm as my eyes dwelt on the restless duo. Mitch and Carter. I moved closer, taking a seat beside them as they nodded in courtesy.

"Where is she?" I asked, diving to the seat opposite them.

"On her way..."They responded, still feeling uneasy in their seats.

Something we quite had in common. I let out a heaved breath, waving my fingers as a clue for a waitress as my eyes wandered around the overly populated cafe and its surroundings.

Humans.

Such fragile yet judgemental kind. That was why we stayed away in a small secluded town for my kind.

To my kind, I am the Alpha of the Crescent moon pack, but to the Human world, I am merely an eligible bachelor and CEO of Castle Corp.

Then it hit me again, the sweet vanilla scent. My senses got alerted as my wolf stood in awe, and suddenly, my eyes met a pair of sky-blue eyes.

“Mate.” It flew out of my lips without warning as Mitch and Carter's eyes widened at my words. She strode slowly into the cafe from another door as she moved behind the counter.

A blonde. My eyes begin to travel down her body, from the seemingly messy hair to her white collar shirt which moved with ease underneath her skirt. My eyes continued right from where her skirt stopped before her kneecap, revealing her slender, soft legs. Gorgeous.

'Mate' Vittorio began to fight for control. 'Mate. Mate.Mate.' He repeated as if reciting an anthem, and my demeanor remained unchanged. Her eyes gently met mine for a split second; as if cognizant of my stare, she retracted her glance.

"Alpha" Carter pulled me away. His eyes were on me.

"Luna, Is it?" Mitch managed to say, glancing at her and then at me. My silence seemed to have sent an answer straight to them.

"You should go to her," Carter gestured, dismantling the restlessness he had. For the first time in a long while, I didn't have a single idea of what to do, and right before my eyes, she picked up her bag and left the cafe.

“Has she closed for the day?”  thought.

"She's leaving. Alpha, we need her, "Mitch, as usual, reminded me. Waiting for my response.

"I'll wait for the woman. Go after her," Mitch and Carter stood up after hearing my words.

I glanced at my watch, trying to take my mind off her as a figure moved toward me.

Fair-skinned, tall, looked like in her thirties and had a persistent stare."You must be Esther"

I said as she nodded with a smile while taking a seat.

"Mr Donnelly, I'm Esther Brooke."

'Of course, I know who you are. You are a descendant of Agatha, one of the Ancient witches with information for me.' Vittorio screamed in frustration.

'Why are you on the edge?' I questioned Vittorio, rolling my eyes.

She was a descendant of a member of the nine witches from the French quarters; after the incident of my father, they all fled from their coven when their identities were compromised. Since then, I have been searching for them; some are long dead without a descent, while others are just not on the map. It might be a cloaking spell. I thought.

I took a good look at the woman I had been communicating with for months over the phone.

"Ketsya is dead, along with the other five." She slowly scrubbed her upper hand.

"Amara?"

"Dead too"

"Petrova?" I called remembering the leader of the coven.

"Also dead" Her words hit me like a lightning bolt.

The only witches that could as much try to pry for an answer were all dead. I froze, recollecting each of them and the great help they gave to my father not minding the danger they were prone to.

"But..." She continued, "From what I've gathered and what my mother told me before passing, Petrova had a child before she died, but no one knows about the child."

"We need to find that child, hopefully still alive" I rubbed my face forcefully with my palm as Esther nodded understandingly.

Finding that child was of utmost importance, even Esther knew it. If the child still lives, Petrova's blood flows through the veins.

Petrova Amnell was the greatest witch who led her time, not forgetting her bonded connection with the ancestors—somewhat like the spirit world which was the center of all witches' power. It houses everything related to their kind, to the darkest kind of magic. Black magic.

"I tried a locating spell trying to find her child, but her child's essence was everywhere;  her child still lives; if the child was dead, it would have come back blank." She paused on her words. "The child is heavily cloaked."

"I'll spread the word, everyone will be searching for her child." Esther nodded as she took her leave.

I sat there for some minutes, processing all I was told before making my way out of the cafe, back to the pack where she should be, waiting. I didn't imagine I'd meet her this soon; sometimes, I'd pray to the moon goddess never to meet her.

Although the prophecy had said, she could be a help but I highly doubt that. She was a human, after all, and what would a fragile and helpless human have to offer?

“Nothing,”

I closed my eyes. And now, everything has changed, but my heart hasn't.

I didn't want her.

I don't need her.

MY MATE
