A deal

Alina pov:

The smell of breakfast woke me up from a deep slumber.

Today was my eighteenth birthday.

From today onward I stand a chance of finding my mate.

My mother had told me many stories about mates.

Especially how she had met my father.

Because of their love that prevailed through everything, I couldn’t wait to experience that type of love myself.

I’m sure that if my father’s love could prevail even death, it would’ve.

But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

I never met my father, so I always wondered what he truly was like.

I could only know him through my mother’s stories and it was a gap within my life that no one could fill.

Maybe if I had a great father-in-law, that would help. Just then, the door to my room swung open, revealing my drastically aging mother trying her absolute best to show no pain.

But it was all to no avail.

My mother had me when she was about forty, but after losing her mate, her body started to give in much faster than an average wolf. It took its toll on her.

I quickly jumped out of bed, taking the tray filled with pancakes stacked upon another with a candle in the middle.

I placed it on the bed and helped her to sit down.

“Thanks mom I love it,” I said, smiling at her.

“well then, make a wish and take a bite. You can’t say you love it when you haven’t even tasted it,” she retorted in her usual sassy tone.

I loved that my mother cared enough to go through all this trouble for me while she was struggling the way she was.

Sometimes I think she’s holding onto life just to make sure I meet my mate and live a happy life.

Which makes me feel guilty about her suffering. I then held onto her hand and hummed my special song.

A song that I learned when I was sixteen through my wolf, Althea.

A song that helped my mother’s pain. One that healed her slightly.

This was an ability that my mother made sure I knew the rest of the world may never see, as they would take advantage.

Being a healer wolf was something that only happened every few generations with a handful of wolves.

It was something rare.

Something that would make me a target for many.

I made a wish and blew out my candle before taking a big juicy bite of the stack of pancakes before me.

The maple and cinnamon goodness exploding in my mouth.

“hmmm” I hummed. Making a big smile appear on my mother’s face. “I put extra love into those,” she giggled. “I can tell,” I replied.

“Come on, get ready. You still have a school to go to. End year exams are over so you need to go fetch your results im curious to see them.”

She said in a strict voice.

I had not attended a werewolf school, as we weren’t in a pack.

I was attending a normal human public school as we were werewolves living as humans.

Just the two of us. Something that was just another obstacle between me and my mate.

Whom ever he might be.

“If your results are good, and you passed. We can go to the Forrest so that you can run. This saterday” She said.

This was something we did rarely, as my wolfs form was a dead giveaway to my powers.

Something we had to be very careful with.

"Deal?"

"deal"

I Helped my mom downstairs to the lounge where she would spend most of her day.

She was nowhere near able to work in her condition.

So I had to go after school to support ourselves. As her pension only covered that much.

When I placed her down on the couch, I went back upstairs and finished my pancakes.

My mom really was a master in the kitchen.

When I was done, I scanned over my clothes hanging in the wardrobe.

I grabbed a pair of flared jeans and paired it with a nice white button up.

For shoes I did a white mid heel Mary Jane styled shoe.

I put my blonde hair up into a ponytail. I sprayed some perfume and headed out.

I kissed my mother goodbye on the cheek and i was off to school.
