Melissa POV
The two packs were becoming more and more tense. Even in the absence of conflict, every day seemed like a struggle. But it was Raven that was causing me trouble. I was unable to continue to ignore his tactics since they were getting more and more blatant. He was speaking to a bunch of wolves when I observed him strolling through the pack's area; his voice was believable and low. They nodded in agreement as though he—and not Dennis—was their leader, clearly ready to listen to him. Why do people want to follow him so badly? I murmured to myself as I observed from a distance. "Because he poses a threat," a well-known voice replied from behind me. I looked around and saw Lucas approaching me. He looked serious, more serious than usual. He came to a stop beside me and looked over at Raven. I have been investigating him, Melissa. I believe he is connected to a negative activity. Incredibly awful. I scowled. "What are you trying to say?" Lucas gently continued, "I've been looking into Raven's involvement in your parents' deaths," as our eyes met. "The more I look, the more I find, and I don't trust him." My chest throbbed with my heartbeat. "You believe he bears some blame?" Lucas gave a slow nod. "I believe Raven played a role in their demise. He is concealing something that has to do with what transpired with them. A shiver went through my body. Is that possible to be true? Was Raven truly complicit in the demise of my parents? Lucas had never made a mistake before, even though I didn't want to accept it. "I must obtain the truth," I murmured, my voice almost audible above a whisper. "We'll locate it," Lucas assured me. But Melissa, exercise caution. Raven is a dangerous person, and he doesn't operate alone. I heard something later that evening that instantly chilled me to the bone. I heard noises in the hallway as I made my way through the pack house. Raven had a conversation with Selena. I did not know Selena very well. She had always desired to become Luna, and she was a strong wolf. Her aspirations were well known, and it appeared that she had partnered with Raven. With a low, focused voice, Raven stated, "We have to move quickly." Dennis is starting to cause issues. We need to move quickly if we want to seize both packets. "And Melissa, what about her? Selena questioned in a stern voice. "She's more powerful than we realized." She might present an issue. Raven said, "Leave Melissa to me." "After Dennis gets out of the way, she will be simple to handle." I took a step back and pressed myself up against the wall, attempting to slow down my heartbeat. Raven intended to depose Dennis and seize command of both packs. Nor was he working by himself. He had Selena by his side, and the two of them were planning to steal everything. It was worse than I had anticipated. I decided to speak with Dennis the next day. I had to let Raven ruin everything, and I had to keep this a secret. Dennis was practicing with some wolves in the training yard when I spotted him, but his attitude stiffened the instant he noticed me. "Melissa," he said, his tone rigid. "What are you hoping to achieve?" I swallowed, mustering up my bravery. "We must speak. It concerns Raven. Dennis looked at me impatiently as he wiped the perspiration from his forehead. "How about him?" Quite frankly, I stated, "He's plotting against you." "He intends to overthrow you and seize command of both packs." Dennis squinted his eyes. Where did you hear about this, too?" Last night, I heard him talking. He conversed with Selena. They both want you to get out of their way since they're working together. Dennis stepped forward, his teeth tightening. And you're informing me of this because you have feelings for the pack? Or is it that, behind my back, you've been practicing with Damon?" The charge made me tighten, clenching my fists. It's not about Damon in this. You are the subject of this. Dennis, you're in danger. Raven intends to turn against you. With a harsh laugh, he laughed. And after all of this, you think I should be able to trust you? Following your escape with Damon?" I yelled, "I didn't run off with him." "I'm attempting to ascertain the situation! I'm attempting to keep this pack safe!" By joining forces with Damon? Dennis spoke softly, his enraged eyes glaring. Melissa, I don't trust him. I'm not sure whether I can still trust you, either. I became frustrated, and my chest clenched. Dennis, trust isn't the issue here. This has to do with surviving. I'm trying to help you, even though I know you don't like what I'm doing. Dennis looked at me for a considerable amount of time before his expression changed. His rage appeared to subside and be replaced by something more profound. "You're not getting it, are you? He stepped closer and whispered in a hushed voice. "Trust is not the only factor. It concerns you. Since I turned you down, I've felt... something. I can't help but feel drawn by you, despite my best efforts to resist." My throat tightened around my breath. Dennis, I — He gave a headshake. "However, I can't own it. I refuse to. I've made up my mind, and I'm not changing it. Unsure of what to say, I just stared at him. His emotionally charged remarks lingered in the space between us. However, Dennis turned and left before any of us could say anything more, leaving me standing there with my heart thumping in my chest. Lucas arrived at my place that evening, somber and with a pale face. After delving further into Raven's past, it appeared that he had discovered something dreadful. "Melissa," he uttered in a strained tone. "I discovered something. It has to do with your parents. My stomach dropped. What were the findings?" Lucas replied, his voice hardly audible above a whisper, "Raven." "It was him who ordered the murder of your parents. Everything was planned by him. The words felt like a kick to the stomach. I staggered backward, my thoughts racing. "No... That is not possible. How come he would do that?" "He intended to undermine your lineage," Lucas explains, his voice quivering with rage. "Your parents were a threat to him," He was aware that you could take him on if you inherited their authority. Therefore, he ensured that they were out of the way. My eyes welled up with tears as the truth hit home. My parents were slaughtered by Raven. He had done it to ruin my family and to rob me of the opportunity to grow into a strong person. I wiped my eyes, a mixture of wrath and anguish burning in my heart. "I'll hold him accountable for his actions." "We will," Lucas resolutely stated. However, there's more. I discovered additional information. My heart pounded as I turned to face him. "What is it?" "Raven intends to murder Dennis," Lucas added in a melancholy tone. "Raven will assume the Alpha title for himself after Dennis leaves." A chilling panic swept through me. I had underestimated the threat facing Dennis. Raven would win, and then everything would be lost. "We must stop him," I murmured, my voice trembling with resolve. "He cannot be allowed to win." My heart pounded as I thought of Dennis, unaware of the danger he was in. I had to warn him, but time was running out. Raven’s plan was already in motion. Would I be able to save him before it was too late?Melissa POVThe air was calm and frigid in the early morning. Something was off; I had a queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. There had been rumors of an impending attack for days, which had made the pack anxious. But nobody anticipated it happening so quickly.Abruptly, I heard someone shout in the distance. With my pulse pounding, I ran toward the sound. Dennis was standing close to the forest's edge, his face blanched with astonishment and his chest heaving. His arm was covered in blood, but it wasn't his."What took place? Breathlessly, I rushed to his side and asked.Dennis clenched his jaw, rage blazing in his eyes. "Raven... He attempted to kill me.My heart fell. "Are you serious?"Dennis whispered, "Serious as death," as he wiped the blood from his arm. "I got duped by one of my men. An ambush occurred. I would not be alive if I hadn't been faster.I looked around to see if there were any more warning indications. But it was silent for the moment. Far too silent."He refu
Melissa POVIt was a chilly and tense night. As Lucas and I stood in the clearing and stared forward at the dark jungle, my heart was pounding. Dennis was being held captive somewhere in Raven's fortress, and it was up to us to free him. But my mind was racing as we got ready for the task.My emotions were jumbled. My partner Dennis, the one I was meant to be with. He was extremely proud and difficult to approach. Then there was Damon, who was always there for me, encouraging and teasingly revealing emotions I wasn't sure I was ready to deal with. Lucas, too... the constant, dependable presence that, until recently, I hadn't even realized was there for me. Regarding each of them, how did I feel? I was tormented by the uncertainty."Are you prepared for this? Damon interrupted, jolting me out of my reverie.I swallowed my doubt and nodded. Indeed. Dennis has to be saved.Lucas nodded comfortingly at me from his position to my left. "We'll manage to free him. Raven won't recognize what
Melissa’s POVI felt the weight of Raven's message bear down on me as I clutched his note in my palm. As I explained the contents of the letter to Damon and Lucas, they stood beside me, their faces tight.I muttered, my fingers shaking, "He said... my lineage holds a secret that could destroy both packs."Damon's hand extended to rest on my shoulder as his eyes grew softer. "We'll work this out, Melissa. I will not allow you to suffer any harm. But first, we need answers.Lucas looked intently as he nodded. Perhaps it's time to research your ancestry. You don't have any knowledge of your forefathers, do you?Slowly, I shook my head. "No, all I know is fragments. My parents never talked about much. However, we must find out the truth if Raven's claims are accurate.I could feel the warmth of Damon's confidence as his hold tightened. Then, collectively, let's find out. We'll find whatever is hidden.I gazed at them both, with a peculiar mixture of appreciation and perplexity. Their enco
Melissa’s POVThe library echoed with the growls of the rogue wolves as they continued to close in. As my hands began to glow golden once more, my only thought was to keep my friends safe.As Dennis had said, I tried to focus and channel the energy by closing my eyes. Gradually, I visualized a wall erecting around us, a shield of defence that would deter the outlaws. The light intensified, and all of a sudden, I sensed an invisible wall of power pulsing outward. The wolves yelled in astonishment as they were flung backwards after running into it. As the shield held firm for a few while, I gasped and felt a wave of tiredness sweep over me. However, the light around my hands quickly faded as my knees gave way and I staggered.I was caught by Damon, who had worried eyes. "How are you, Melissa?"I was so exhausted that I could hardly stand. I gripped his arm and muttered, "I... I think so." "However, using my power drains me so much."Looking around, Lucas saw the outlaws fleeing. However
Melissa’s POVThe woodland was silent, with shadows reaching between the trees and the only sound being my heartbeat pounding in my ears. I took a deep breath and tried to stabilize myself. I was here alone to meet Raven. I wanted answers I needed them but I was afraid of what he might say. Then I saw him. Raven emerged from behind a tree, his eyes flashing in the dark light. His smile was piercing and unnerving, sending shivers down my spine."Melissa," he said, his tone low and silky. "I knew you'd come.""I came for answers, Raven. Nothing else," I answered, attempting to maintain my tone.Raven chuckled and tilted his head. "Oh, I'll give you answers... but you may not like them."I gulped, but my gaze remained on his. "Then start talking."He took a step closer, staring at me with weird intensity. "You come from a line of powerful wolves, Melissa. Your ancestors weren't ordinary, they could alter the destiny of entire packs. They could bring prosperity... or destroy everything."
Melissa’s POVBack at the packhouse, I collected Dennis, Damon, and Lucas in a meeting room. The hush was oppressive as if everyone knew something enormous was approaching. I took a big breath and looked at each of them."Raven told me something strange," I said. "Before he left, he said I didn't know the real enemy."Dennis lifted his eyebrow. "That's Raven attempting to scare you, Melissa. "He wants you confused and afraid."I shake my head. "No, Dennis." This felt odd. He wasn't simply attempting to intimidate me. It was as if he knew something we didn't.Damon clenched his jaw as he gazed at Dennis. "Maybe Melissa is right. We should not disregard a warning simply because it originated from Raven."Dennis scoffed and crossed his arms. "So, what?" We start hunting for an enemy who may not even exist. Raven is the enemy, and he's only trying to play with your head, Melissa.Frustration rose within me. "Why don't you believe me, Dennis?" "You're always trying to dismiss things as if
Melissa’s POVThings between Dennis and myself had changed since I discovered the prophecy and his hidden knowledge. The trust that previously bound us together seemed to be slipping away, replaced by a nagging unease. As I passed inside the packhouse, I attempted to shake off the turmoil in my heart, but it persisted like a shadow."Melissa." Dennis' voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to see him standing by the door, his expression tense. "We need to talk."I crossed my arms and kept my tone steady. "About what, Dennis?"His eyes were filled with frustration. "You've been avoiding me since our conversation about the prophecy. I'm trying to protect you, yet you're acting as if I betrayed you."Because you did! "The words came out sharper than I had intended. "You concealed something very vital from me, Dennis. How can I trust you now?"Dennis clenched his jaw and took a step closer. "I did not tell you because I believed it was the greatest way to keep you safe. I did not want yo
Melissa’s POVI entered the common room in the eerily calm morning. There stood Lucas, pacing, looking at the door like he was waiting for someone."Lucas?" I frowned as I asked. "What's happening?"His expression was filled with worry as he turned to face me. Dennis is gone, Melissa. He departed early this morning to face Raven."What?" My heart was pounding when I gasped. "He went by himself. He is aware that it is a trap.Lucas shook his head and remarked, "I suppose his pride prevented him from returning." "He is directly putting himself in danger."Damon heard us and came in at that very moment. Then we can stop wasting time. Before he kills himself, let's leave.I swallowed my dread and nodded. "Leave now."We hurried outside, running across the woodland in the chilly early air. Every stride I took made my heart race. I didn't want to consider the consequences of not getting to him in time.Dennis and Raven were heatedly arguing when we discovered them in a clearing. Dennis was
Melissa’s POVThe Storm Pack was no longer the same. There was no unity where there had been disagreement. There was strength where there had been dread.I watched the pack as they passed through the village from the balcony of the Alpha's estate. The area was bathed in a golden glow as the sun was just starting to rise. The smell of fresh bread wafted from the kitchens, young pups played by the river, and wolves trained in the fields. There was peace for the first time in a long time. There was a knock behind me."Come in," I said quietly.Damon entered, his piercing golden eyes silently laughing at me. Arms crossed, he leaned against the doorway. "You've spent a lot of time lately gazing at the sunrise."I turned to him and grinned. "Now it feels different. More vivid. He approached me and put an arm around my waist. For that reason, it is. Melissa, you made all the difference.I leaned against him and let out a deep exhale. "Everything was altered by us."Although I still felt the
Melissa’s POVThe conflict was over. The noises of warfare had long filled the battlefield, but now it was oddly quiet. The storm had passed as though it had also been vanquished, and the sky had cleared. But the weight of loss weighed heavily on my chest, and the smell of blood was still there.Dennis had left. The newly turned ground was wet underfoot as I stood at his grave. He was buried by the pack near the top of Storm Pack's property, where the forest's aroma wafted into the air. It was a place for Alphas, for warriors. In the end, for a leader who had saved himself.Tobias firmly touched my shoulder. "The pack shares your grief," he muttered.I gave a nod but remained silent.Behind me, the soldiers stood with their heads bowed in reverence. Some of them had recently sustained wounds and were still wearing bandages from the fight. Although the wounds of war will never truly heal, none were more painful than losing our Alpha.Jacob, the youthful, doomed warrior, appeared in a l
Melissa’s POVAs the storm raged above us, the sky was painted in rich tones of black and red. Although there was silence on the battlefield, the strong smell of magic and blood permeated the air. With her dark cloak flapping in the wind, Raven stood in the middle of the mayhem. Around her, the shadows twisted strangely, as though they were alive. She gazed at me, her eyes blazing with hate. She growled, "You won't stop me this time."I stood with Dennis and Damon, our bodies tight. Although we were weakened by the previous combat, we were still intact. With a firm voice, I said, "We end this now, Raven."She gave a chilly laugh. "Are you still not understanding? Retaliation was never the only goal here. I'll mould the werewolf race to fit my vision. You are all weak and holding onto an outdated system that ought to be abolished. With the Moon Goddess's might still blazing within me, I took a step forward and said, "You're incorrect. Destroying is not what strength is all about. It's
Melissa’s POVThe nightmare had only just begun, but the struggle was finished.Breathing heavily caused my chest to rise and fall as I stood in the middle of the battlefield. The bodies of fallen roguess were strewn all over the area, and the air was heavy with the smell of blood. However, there was a problem.Incorrect.I heard a low, guttural growl that made my ears perk up. When I turned abruptly, I saw Jacob, one of our troops, shivering fiercely. Once a familiar shade of brown, his eyes had turned completely black.Jacob? I moved ahead with caution. His body gave a strange jerk. His breathing became laboured. Then he suddenly launched an attack. With horrifying strength, he sprang at a fighter nearby, sending them to the ground. Like a mad beast, Jacob ripped into his packmate, causing the pack to gasp in fear."No! I shifted in midair as I sprinted at him. The injured warrior was knocked off his feet when my wolf struck his side.Jacob gave me a growl, no, a snarl. Something in
Melissa’s POVThe air was heavy with the smell of conflict, and the battlefield was covered in blood. The night was filled with the snarls of the rogues as they circled us like vultures. However, Raven captured my interest. Her dark eyes gleamed with twisted glee as she stood erect, her black cloak blowing in the breeze."Melissa, do you still not understand?" Her voice was like ice as she spoke.I balled my fists up. "Do you understand?"She tilted her head and grinned. "That I'm to blame for everything you've gone through."A shiver went down my back. "What?"She walked ahead slowly, enjoying the moment. "Selena was merely a pawn." Is Dennis turning you down? I did it. The roguess? My troops. The pack's turmoil? Everything was planned.Behind me, the warriors let out gasps. Dennis tensed up as well.My heart was racing as I swallowed hard. "Why?"Raven's face grew serious. Because mine was damaged by yours. as your lineage ought to have terminated years ago. A snarl curved her lips.
Melissa’s POVThe air still carried the smell of blood. I didn't have time to think about what I had done, even though Selena's body was dead at my feet. The roguess were approaching. From the forest came a howl that was deep and bone-chilling. Another came after it. And yet another. The sound caused the pack to tighten and their ears to twitch. Warriors shifted on their feet, ready to fight, and reached for their weapons.Dennis moved to stand next to me and looked around the trees. He whispered, "They think we're weak." "They believe we'll fall apart now that Selena is gone."I gave a quick breath. "Then we prove they are mistaken."He was about to reply when the first rogues, a huge, scarred wolf with red eyes that glowed, emerged from the darkness. Then another. And yet another. They soon filled the area, their snarls tearing through the darkness. The soldiers of the Storm Pack prepared."Remain on the line!" Tobias yelled. "Avoid breaking formation!"My silver wolf was at the fro
Melissa’s POVWith their gaze fixed on me, the pack became silent. As I stood over Selena's quivering body, I exhaled in calm, controlled breaths. Even though she had already given in, it wasn't enough.I wasn't finished with her yet. With my silver wolf looming over her smaller, vanquished body, I took a step closer. My voice was piercing and authoritative. "Arise."Despite whimpering, Selena remained still. The soil beneath her was stained with blood that spilt from the wounds I had caused to her.I transformed back into a human and stood erect, my body still pulsing with strength. I responded icily, "This isn't over." "You took my spot. You planned to harm me. I was poisoned by you. I stepped forward, staring into her eyes. "You will now be held accountable for it."Selena's gaze flitted about, looking for assistance. However, none arrived. The pack was waiting and observing.Dennis was standing close by, his face unreadable. The elders and Tobias remained silent. Damon, with his a
Melissa’s POVLong shadows were formed across the battlefield by the full moon's strong light over the training grounds. With their faces stiff with expectancy, warriors formed a close circle. Two Alphas, each vicious and resolute, battling for the right to claim me was a conflict the pack had never witnessed before.Dennis straightened up, his tense muscles taut. He turned to confront Damon, his dark eyes blazing with rage. "This concludes tonight."Damon rolled his shoulders and grinned. "At last, we can agree on something."The elder, Tobias, moved forward and held up a hand. "The guidelines are straightforward. This is a struggle for power and control. No meddling. No pity. The victor asserts their entitlement to Melissa.I balled my fists up. I didn't want the decision to be made in this manner. Now, however, neither Damon nor Dennis would listen to me.Tobias took a quick look at both Alphas. "Are you prepared?"Dennis gave a rigid nod. Damon cracked his knuckles and grinned.“S
Melissa’s POVTension began to build as the sun had just begun to rise over the Storm Pack's territory. Whispering among themselves, warriors stood in groups. A few glanced in my direction, their eyes puzzled. Others were standing close to Selena, showing their allegiance. The group was dispersing. My fists were clenched as I stood at the training grounds. This was more than a fight, yet the challenge had been set. It was about who owned the pack, authority, and trust.Dennis stood with his arms folded in the middle. He scanned the assembled gathering with his piercing stare. "Today, we will resolve this," he declared. "Melissa asserted her legitimacy as Luna. Selena has also asserted it. The pack has to make a decision. With a sly smile, Selena moved forward. She flicked her hair and hissed, "The choice is obvious." Dennis, I've been by your side. While she was away, I took the lead. There were murmurs. While some warriors scowled, others nodded. An elder took a step forward. "Meliss
