recurring nightmare

Linda POV

Tonight, the Lycan King will grace the Moon Stone pack with his presence. According to the word sent, it seems like he will be here to find his mate.

The Lycan King has a reputation of being cold blooded and a ruthless killer. He rules over the land with an iron fist and all the Alphas have to bow down in respect.

Lycans are stronger than werewolves. It is said that one Lycan can engage six strong werewolves in battle and win against them.

They also don't shift like werewolves do. On the contrary, they shift into a bipedal beast.

Every year during the blood Moon, the Lycan King visits a pack in search of his mate. It's a belief among us that under the moonlight, new bonds are forged. Mates find each other during that special night. Rumour has it that the Lycan has remained unmated for hundred of years hence earning the title of " mateless king"

Some people say that he was cursed with immortality and that only his Mate could undo the curse.

Over the years, he has searched for his mate but in vain.

The sudden announcement of his arrival to our pack shocked many since today is no blood Moon.

What I can't understand is why my parents seem more anxious with his arrival.

" He can't find you here Linda, you have to go back." Those were my mother's words earlier before I convinced her that I'll stay back at the house and conceal my scent tonight.

I am a mated wolf. Although Lucas never marked me nor did he acknowledge our mating bond, he did not reject me either.

That keeps me out of the list of eligible mates for the Lycan King and that's why I don't understand why my parents would have such an exaggerated reaction about my arrival.

I am not ready to be mated to anybody. The only thing I am looking forward to is officially rejecting Lucas and then finding answers to my recurring nightmare.

Everytime I have that nightmare, I always wake up feeling like it wasn't just a dream, it feels like it's something happening in reality.

I have to find out the identity of the man who always smiles at me so warmly only to abandon me the next moment.

I have so many questions but I don't know who will answer them for me.

Although Kaiser insists that I should talk to my parents about it, I don't think it's a good idea.

The last thing I want is to have my parents worry about me.

I know Just how much of worrywarts they can be.

The sound of howls fills the land, signalling the arrival of the Lycan King.

Despite thinking that concealing my scent is of no use at this point, I still do it to reassure my parents.

Plugging in my earphones and playing my favourite playlist, I slowly turn the pages of the latest development on poison research by professor Julio.

Alex's POV

At nightfall, my warriors and I prepare to leave for the Moon Stone pack.

" You have to smile a little, don't scare the ladies away." Valeria jokes and I glare at her.

At this point, I am too anxious to listen to her jokes.

I understand that she is trying to lift my mood, perhaps help me ease the tension but it's not working.

" Don't worry, the search will come to an end tonight." She assures me , patting my shoulders.

I nod in acknowledgement but deep down,I can't mask my anxiety.

The flame of hope is burning in my heart and I wish that tonight, I don't come back empty-handed.

Valeria's presence in my life has been a huge blessing. Others might not know but she knows what I have gone through looking for my mate.

Others might think I am nonchalant about finding my fated one but Valeria knows how it has been killing me to finally have her in my arms.

At times, I even thought about giving up but she always reminded me that giving up was never an option for me.

" Thank you." I said in a low voice making her chuckle.

" Don't thank me. If you want to thank me, make me an aunty soon." She replied jokingly, making me smile.

The idea of having kids has never passed through my mind but now that she mentioned it, I think that it's not a bad idea.

" Let's go. We are bringing our Queen back home tonight." She announced and I nodded.

Shifting into my beast, my warriors and I headed to the Moon stone pack.

It did not take us long to arrive at the Moon Stone Pack.

Five years ago, the pack was nothing special. It was a small pack led by the youngest Alpha.

Looking at it now, I could not deny that the pack had gone through transformation.

Despite being the Alpha of all Alphas, I rarely make personal visits to the packs, not unless it's the blood moon, where we get to choose mates.

" It's an honour to have the Lycan King here tonight." The boy whom I recognised as the Alpha welcomed me.

' He is Alpha Lucas.' Valeria whispered through the mindlink.

At times like this, she's always there to save the day. I don't bother keeping in mind the names of the Alphas of different packs. That's where Valeria comes at hand.

Looking at the man before me, I could smell arrogance and ignorance reeking from him.

My eyes wandered to the woman by his side and a sense of dislike washed through me.

" I don't have all the night here, Alpha Lucas. Where are the ladies?" I replied, looking him straight in the eye.

I was not here to exchange pleasantries with him, not with my increasing anxiety every passing minute.

" This way, my king." The boy replied, bowing in respect and ushering me to what seemed like a hall.

Sauntering to the hall, I let my beast take control. With his ability, he would be able to sniff out our mate faster.
