Six hours of ruin

She didn’t die.

But she wasn’t quite alive either.

“We’ll leave her on oxygen for the main time and observe her.” The doctor said.

“Is this normal?” I asked the doctor. I knew people didn’t drown in their tubs every day but I wanted to know if it was the normal process after someone almost died by drowning.

“Cases like this are rare, especially with the whole bathtub thing. You said you heard no struggling sound.”

“I was asleep, I searched for her as soon as I woke up,” I explained.

“The thing is, when people are confronted by death, they fight for life. I’m sorry to ask this but Do you think she did that on purpose? Does she have any reason to?” The doctor asked, looking me in the eye.

“Why do you ask? What do you mean?”

The doctor took a deep breath in and out. “Your wife has no will to leave. This is something she can go through, the danger is past now but she isn’t responding to anything. It feels like she doesn’t want to respond, it’s not like she can’t.”
