Jealous of a woman

“Emily! Emily!” I shook her but she didn’t wake up.

She was fighting in her sleep, struggling and sweating but didn’t come awake. It seemed like shaking her forcefully wasn’t working so I cradled her into my arms, squeezed her into a hug, willing her to stop trembling. Thankfully it worked. She didn’t wake up but she slept more peacefully, I didn’t want to let go of her.

Sarah sighed in relief as we both saw that Emily was calm. I wondered why Emily had chosen to ask for her help instead of listening to me. The girl lived in one of the numerous cramped apartments in Paris and from the background check I did on her, she was nobody.

Sarah caressed Emily’s hair even while I held Emily and murmured, “I shouldn’t have taught her to swim. She got too comfortable in the water.”

The action was too intimate, I didn’t like it. “Who are you? Why did Emily come to you?” I shot at her. I’d have slapped her hand away from Emily’s hair but the action seemed to soon Emily so I let her be. “
