KERRIENNE
He reached out to touch my cheek and I could feel the whole room hold its breath. He leaned in, sniffed my hair and rubbed his cheek against mine. That's the second time he's done that. Like he's scenting me or something. We stood there, in the middle of the room, cheek to cheek bloody swords hanging from our hands. I leaned into his touch and felt peace.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Lars and several of Emrick’s clansmen slowly approach us. They were trying to outflank him… “Laird…?” Lars asked cautiously.
Emrick made a growling sound that had no business coming from a human throat and before anyone could react, he turned on Lars and had him lifted by the throat, leaving his feet dangling inches off the floor. I handed the sword back to my father and tentatively touched his arm. He looked down at my hand then into my eyes. I watched in awe as his eyes turned back to sky blue.
Lars was making gurgling noises and turning blue. “Emrick, let him go.” I whispered. He released his hold so suddenly, Lars slumped to the ground.
He coughed and I watched the feared look on his face turn to one of awe and gratitude as he stared up at me. He got on one knee and exclaimed hoarsely, “Thank you my lady…”
I looked around the room and all of Emrick’s clansmen were looking at me with the same look on their faces.
Without meaning to, I spoke out loud. “I accept your proposal for an alliance through marriage. Those three,” I said pointing to the dead men on the floor, “were sent for our heads. Combining forces will give us the numbers needed to win in the upcoming battle.”
“Do you ken who sent them, my lady?” Lars asked hoarsely.
“Apparently, someone named Alastair will pay a great deal of money for our heads and is also willing to sacrifice people to do it.” I added thoughtfully. “He had to have know that he was sending these men on a suicide mission. Even if they had succeeded in killing Emrick and I, someone in here would’ve killed them for it.”
Emrick cursed under his breath.
“It's very probable that he is the one behind the attack on your clan.” I continued, “Why he did so using our colors, I know not. Nor does it matter, he needs putting down.”
My father put his hand on my shoulder and asked gently, “Kerrienne is this truly what you want? I'm sure we can come up with another solution.” He said, sending a quick glance at Emrick as he said the last bit.
I closed my eyes and without much effort, called up a vision of the future. I saw death and devastation all around me. My father lay disemboweled on the floor, with Emrick’s head mounted on a pike and all the while Alastair laughed maniacally. I saw both our clansmen dead, our kingdoms set ablaze, turning to ash…. Our people turned into slaves… I shuddered and said “What I want doesn’t matter, father. Alastair will destroy both of our clans if we do not join forces. As of now, his army outnumbers us but joining our clans will change that and give us the numbers we need, thereby evening the odds.”
The room, silent up to now, erupted into angry curses and exclamations. Emrick took my elbow and led me to the head table. I sat in the chair he held out for me. He smiled down at me and turned to the room. “Quiet,” he said calmly. His voice resonated with power and carried to all the corners of the great hall. A hush fell over the room as everyone obeyed his quiet order. My father took the seat next to mine and I found myself seated between him and Emrick.
Emrick took his seat calmly. “We have a wedding to prepare for.”
Sarah approached me and whispered, “Can I get you anything my lady?”
“Some water and a small piece of cloth, please.” She hurried to get me what I asked for.
Lars approached the table. “Our clan elders speak of a legend that says, one day, a great warrior woman from a distant land will come and together with our chosen son, will lead us to greatness. I believe that day is upon us.” He said, raising his cup. “I know you are from a neighboring clan my lady, but your mother was not.” I looked at my father, who wore a pained expression on his face, but he gave me a small nod. The room erupted into shouts and everyone banged their cups on the tables.
Sarah returned with the water and cloth. I thanked her absent mindedly, thinking about my mom and my father’s small nod, the pain I saw on his face. He didn’t talk about my mother much. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him with a woman, at least not in a romantic way. I wet the cloth and leaned over to Emrick. He leaned towards me with a smile, tilting his head back, offering me his neck. I wiped the blood off his neck and found no wound. The cut has already closed, leaving a thin pink line in its place.
I looked up at him in astonishment. He took my hand and placed a gentle kiss on my knuckles. If possible, the room got even louder. I crouched down into my chair as I felt my cheeks redden in embarrassment.
KERRIENNEThe next few days went by in a flurry of activities as our clans prepared for an upcoming battle and a wedding. I was given a room in the castle, as had my father. Some of our men were bunking with Emrick’s soldiers, since our village was a five day journey. Since the version of me I was before had given express orders for my men not to kill any of the Mcleods until our differences could be resolved, there were no hard feelings. My father had sent word back to our village for more men to come and join us. They made camp outside the keep as they came in.At the betrothal celebration, my father spun me around the dance floor as I laughed and giggled.“Just say the word and we are out of here.” He said half-serio
KERRIENNE As I closed the door, I could feel his need for me. I felt it too, hell I could feel it through the door which is why I opened it. Power oozed from his pores calling to the power I could feel deep inside me, but it was more than that. I felt a need to touch every inch of him, and have him touch me in return. We stood staring at each other. Now that I've got this other me in my head, I see things much clearer. My father was always telling me not to be afraid of my gift of sight, he said I was blessed by the Gods. I’ve always known the best time to plant crops. Which fields needed rotation and when our borders needed protecting. But now, it's as if my gifts have been amplified. Along with other gifts I didn't even know I had. I barred the door and
EMRICKDriving into her was pure ecstasy and holding back skidded further and further from my grasp with each stroke. She fit me like a custom made glove. I haven’t felt this out of control since I was fifteen and laid with a woman for the first time. I grabbed her hips and started a relentless rhythm. She wrapped her legs around my waist instinctively, almost shattering my control. Her body tightened around mine seconds before she threw her head back and screamed her release.Muscles clenched and locked across my body then snapped free as I saw stars from a mind numbing release. My guttural roar drowned out her soft cries. There was no way the whole damn keep didn’t know what we were up to by now. I opened my eyes to watch the satisfied look on her face. Suddenly, I felt my life force leave my body and
EMRICKTwo more thrusts and I joined her in ecstasy. My body, shaking from the force of my orgasm. She unwrapped her legs from around my waist and slumped into my arms. I wrapped my arms around her waist to keep her from falling to the floor. Hell, I'm halfway there myself.I picked her up and carried her back to the bed, where she curled into a ball and went right to sleep. I chuckled as I pulled the covers up and covered her sweet body before I decided to climb in after her and lose myself in her sweet flesh for the rest of the day.It wouldn’t have mattered to me if she wasn’t a virgin, but the fact that she was will save me the trouble of hunting down any man who’s ever touched her and relieving them of their head
Kerrienne “Hello” I said, “My name is Kerrienne.” “Oh, thank the Goddess I’ve found you.” I took a small step back in surprise at the feminine voice that sounded in my head. “I was on my way to find you when I was accosted by these brutes. I was contemplating eating them but I was too weak after my transmutation. Then I heard them talking about your arrival with their Laird. So I let them capture me and lead me to you instead.” “You were looking for me?” “Aye.” “Why?” “I am your familiar.” The answer popped into my head. “My fa…” I stammered, looking her straight in th
EMRICK As I bathed and got ready, I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I was also excited about claiming Kerrienne as my bride, even if she wasn’t an ideal political match I’d still want her for my wife. I felt invincible whenever she was around, as if her magic somehow amplified mine. I took special care to comb my hair back, tying it with a piece of cowhide. I buttoned up my shirt and made my way to the great hall. It was empty. Since Kerrienne was the outdoors type, the festivities would be held in the courtyard, that way all of my people could attend the festivities.I made my way outside where the tables were now covered with food and drinks. Lars had sent more men hunting to make sure there would be plenty of meat for everyone.
EMRICKI nodded at Kerrienne then turned to look out at our clansmen. “Spread the word that I’ve been killed by an unknown archer and that my widow, the warrior princess of the McKay clan is marching towards Alastair’s keep in search of revenge.”I turned back to Kerrienne. “Looks like I have to wait a bit longer to claim you as my bride my love.”“So it seems.” She answered.“My lord, What should we do with the would-be assassin?” Lars asked.I looked into Daniel’s eyes then at Kerrienne. If someone killed her in the manner that Daniel’s wife was killed and made me watch, I would move heaven and earth to get my revenge on them, n
EMRICK“I don’t think your father likes me very much right now.” I said, taking her into my arms.“I don’t really care at the moment.” She replied, turning to face me. “Emrick, I’m scared.”“You don’t have to fight love.”She pulled out of my embrace and walked over to one of the portholes. She turned to look at me with such a look of despair. I crossed the distance between us in two steps and took her shaking frame back into my arms. I raised her face towards mine with a finger under her chin. As soon as I touched her, I knew.“You’re not
