"If preparations are almost complete, why hasn't he made his move yet?"

Betty's eyes widened incredulously. "Because of Caroline?"

"Yeah, Caroline being here alone unsettles him."

Betty laughed and said, "Kirk is already married. When is it going to be your turn?"

Sean quickly glossed over the subject and hung up when Betty started to urge him to consider marriage. His phone immediately rang again after the call had ended.

Sean checked his phone and sighed in relief. It wasn't a follow-up call from Betty, but rather a call from Kirk.

He answered the call. "Hey, you must be calling to ask about Caroline. She's doing well now. She went out to seaside with my mom today."
