"Your... your eyes?"

I tilted my head as I looked into them, pretending that I didn't understand what was happening. He ignored me completely while changing the subject.

"You sure about going out in this again? I mean, you could stay in here until it lets up, I wouldn't mind the company a bit longer, plus I doubt the people here would mind considering this weather."

"I wish I could, but truly, I need sleep before I have to work tonight. Thank you for the offer though. Maybe we will see one another again before you head back out of town again, if not, good luck on your vacation."

Smiling at him as he released his hold I turned and left.

When I reached my apartment, to no surprise we didn't have full power, but enough so that everyone could run necessities. As I stepped inside the front doors the building manager was sitting out in the little lobby area.

"Ellie, holy shit you were out in this? Why didn't you stay at the diner?"

"No power plus I helped a guy to the hotel around the block who was stuck with a flat tire. No power here either?"

"I have the generators on but it's limited power or they may crap out. I had everyone turn off most everything but leave their refrigerators plugged in, so basically you can flush or shower if needed as well as your food not going bad.

Hopefully it will get better soon, if the power comes back I'll send out a mass text to everyone letting them know.

Are you going to work tonight?"

"I'm going to try. They haven't called to say they are closed so I assume I'm going in. Thanks Bare."

I headed upstairs to my hot apartment. I always turn the air up when I'm not home to save me money, luckily I remembered to do that this morning so I wasn't wasting the generators to have it run while I was out.

I stripped off my raincoat before hanging it up, grabbing a towel to place on the floor to catch any water that drips off of it. After that I slipped my wet shoes off before pulling off my wet socks to throw in the washer.

Standing in front of the washer I looked down at my uniform, I didn't get it dirty today but it did get a bit wet so I should wash it anyway so I pulled the zipper down from the back before slipping it off myself.

Pushing everything into the wash before I threw myself onto the bed in nothing but my underwear and a bra not caring because of how hot it was as I took a nap before my shift at the club started.

Laying here, like this, my mind went back to that damn dream again. Ever since coming here I still relive those horrible moments when I sleep. How my life used to be when I lived in the pack house with my dad, with Elias. I sometimes think these dreams are my mind's way of reminding me why I left them all behind, almost as if giving me the excuse I need to have stayed away for so long.

I used to pray that I would be mated outside of our pack, not wanting to stay in ours.

I grew up with the Alpha Heir, we spent our entire lives together even though he was two years older than I was.

I knew being his Beta wouldn't be smart for me. I wanted to leave and have a life outside of there, away from his conceited, arrogant self. When we started butting heads as he became a teenager, I didn't truly know how I could be his second in command.

At three years old my mother had another child, a son, my brother Elias. He could become the Beta when my father retires, I wasn't needed once a male Heir came along.

However, that's not exactly how things ended up working out for any of us. I am here instead, living a life away from it all just as I wanted, only, alone.
