"I thought you were going to a party." I asked Clara who was now walking to where I was with that same astonishment on her face.

"I should be asking you that, oh... Wait, now I understand, but you should've told me that you're refusing to come with me because you're actually coming with a date."

My brow furrowed as I tried to make sense of Clara's words. I replayed our conversation in my head, I don't remember telling her about a date, in fact I don't have any date, and I'm not even attending the party so what...?

"I didn't have a date, and this is the hotel where I'm staying for the time being." I pointed out as she exclaimed loudly, "oh."

Then her face suddenly switched, the confusion written on her face a minute ago was gone, now replaced by a brightened face staring at me as she said, "That's great! Because this is actually the party, since you're here, I'm sure you can have a brief glance at the party, you can just show up with me for a few minutes before going

Hello, this is christine Hannah (Dew_CH) So this is my first book here, and I'm pretty excited about this. And thank you for following this book thus far. I promise to make this a quick, yet interesting read. Well, I should've said this in chapter six which was incredibly long, yeah, I had to summarize it and put it into a single chapter to avoid confusion and to clarify how she ended back in Arizona. Thank you for following my book.

Flashback I rushed into the dining room when I heard Derek's car, I hurriedly arranged the table and cups properly, before taking another spree into the kitchen, I washed my hands and dried them with the hand towels then I hung them back. I smiled, everything was in place, dessert has been made, the cake was baked, and the meal was also prepared. I took a great time that morning grilling the steaks and making sure it was all greasy and a little spicy, just as Derek liked them. His footsteps grew closer, by the time the doorknob twisted and he stepped a foot in, I threw in the air the foil cutout I made shouting… “Welcome back daddy, and happy birth—day” the rest of the words came out almost mechanically as a pair of black heels stepped into the sitting room. Derek stood at 6.2ft tall. His black hair was just like mine, soft and smooth. I'd helped him dry and combed them when I was little. Derek took the hand of the brunette woman behind him and brought her to my side. There w

Ember I don't plan to have any conversation with her as I managed to walk through the little space between us without making any contact with her, even though I'd brushed against the doorway, i prefer that to brushing against her. I was already in the hallway when I heard her footsteps— closer, faster and faster, she was running after me, "Ember..." She called. My eyes turned dark as my jaw clenched, but I kept going without looking back, I don't really want to end up on the headline as a cold blooded murderer, because I know the moment I turned back, I won't be able to control myself, therefore, I keep going, pretending it wasn't her, pretending I'm the only person in the hallway right now, but I underestimated the nerve of the woman. "Ember." She called breathlessly, this time, I felt her quickening her pace, running even faster, her heels clicking on the hallway tiled floor, I felt her closed, and the next second, her hand aiming at my shoulder to pull me back, "Hands off!

Maverick I shouldn't be here tonight, I glanced the watch on my wrist with a straight face as I walked into the party, now it only remained for me to wait for that man. The orchestral was slowly playing in the background, but my eyes didn't leave the watch, why is he taking so damn long! Frowning, I took out my cell phone and put Alex's number on the dial. "Didn't you say he was going to be here in a few minutes? What's taking him so damn long?" "Can you hold for a moment and let me get in contact with him to know what's going on," He said from the other end, putting me on hold. After a few seconds, his voice came through the line again, "He won't be coming tonight, something held him up, I think you should come back now, I've already scheduled another meeting with him in a week time, but I will be the one meeting him, we can't have you strangling him to death.” My brows were tightly knitted together as my fist clenched against the phone, "He should've just said he would

EmberI couldn't think straight, my mind raced with fear, but before I knew what's happening, Mr Nightshade took the boy from Clara's arms and bolted away.I quickly shifted into my human form and sprinted after him. A sleek black car was waiting outside, he put the boy at the back seat as I rushed inside with Clara who was still shaking with fear. The car zoomed away from the hotel and sped into the nearest werewolf owned hospital, he turned off the ignition and jumped out of the car, Kai was now held in my arms as we quickly made for the emergency quarters, but the hospital security officer stopped us from going inside."Please identify yourself before you can go in." Werewolf's establishments were often wary of threats coming to them, so even though there were several pack hospitals around the city where humans could also go for treatment, but supernatural being like werewolf needed their IDs to be allowed an entrance. After all, they couldn't risk the existence of supernatural b

Ember"Kai...?I started slowly, reaching out a hand and touching his forehead, his body remained immobile, and rigid as he continued to stare into blank space. The two unfamiliar irises were vibrantly staring at nothingness."What's going on ..? Clara, whose attention was now caught by Kai's strange behavior, asked as she tried to touch him, but out of nowhere, his hand shot out and shoved Clara away.Clara stumbled back a little, her eyes widening as her mouth flew agape, she stepped back. Not out of surprise, but fear.I immediately rushed to her side and held her shoulder to stabilize her, but her eyes still had that shock in them as she pointed at his eyes. My brows knitted together as I sat her on a chair and walked back to the bed, Kai was still staring into blankness, my eyes were damp now as my lips trembled slightly. "Baby..." I placed my hand on his little shoulder, but the boy who had earlier Been staring into nothingness snapped his eyes to me, then he peeled my hands aw

Ember.I could feel some pain in my upper arm, which was gripped by Clara who seemed to be out of her mind, so I removed her hand from my arm. "What's wrong with you Clara?" She seemed out of her mind, but I guess my question reached her as she blinked repeatedly, then she leaned into the seat, taking a deep breath, followed by her face softening over,"I'm sorry Ember, I didn't mean to hurt you, it's just that, it's important you tell me whomever his father was, it's just very crucial, because it might just be the only way to calm him down." Worry pierced my heart as soon as Clara mentioned his father, but I hesitated... I couldn't bring myself to reveal the truth. "His father is... Umm. He's fine and alive, just that he wasn't around now." I feel so worthless right now, even though his father had been here just a while ago, but truthfully, he didn't even know about him, nor do I know anything about him except for the estate and that he's insanely strong aside from that, I knew no

Maverick"I'm telling you that what you're doing these days might just blow your cover, I mean was she really worth it? Moreover, haven't you always had things against werewolves?" Only one man dared to talk to me in that manner,Alex jaw clenched, glaring at me, with a yellow folder in hand, while his shoes tapped on the floor impatiently."You're right, I've got things against werewolves. Just not her." I replied to him with a straight face, then I leaned into the chair. He had called me earlier at the hospital to inform me of some trespassers that needed to be taken care of. I felt really reluctant to part with the boy and his mother in the hospital, but I had only left them because I was assured that he had already regained consciousness. And seeing this guy with two red eyes glaring at me, I couldn't help but chuckle. Alex, although was my assistant, he was also my only friend, so he knew when to be formal, in addition there was this strict side of him that went all out when

Ember. The man's eyes widened, he was staring at me with surprise he couldn't quite conceal, I mean who wouldn't be surprised to have a woman showing up at their door at this hour of the night. He stood tall, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, his hand was still hung on the door knob as he kept staring, my gaze involuntary flew to his waist and I gulped inwardly.I couldn't help but notice his naked abs, this man only had a white towel wrapped around his torso. After all, Proudly displaying his well proportioned figure, while his uncombed damp hair lightly fell on his forehead, his golden eyes fixated on me, as if searching me. I want to dig some space in the earth and hide my whole figure right now.He finally cleared his throat and stepped aside, creating space for us to pass through, Kai was peacefully sleeping in my chest."No problem, you c

Ember“So… now that the yacht’s gone, what are we supposed to do?” I asked, glancing around at the wide-open water stretching as far as I could see.“Wait for it, I guess,” he replied, way too casually. “Probably just ran low on gas.”I narrowed my eyes, noting the way he smirked ever so slightly. “Is this some kind of setup? Was this your big surprise?”He chuckled, shaking his head. “Not at all. This was definitely not part of the plan. But look—it’ll come back. We just have to wait.”I shifted uneasily, trying to mask my growing anxiety with humor. “What if we end up living out some kind of real-life Jaws nightmare?”He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Seriously? You’re a werewolf—you’re supposed to be the one scaring off predators.”I rolled my eyes, smirking back. “Yeah, well, if wolves can eat fish, why shouldn’t a shark be able to enjoy some wolf?”He let out a soft laugh, sweeping his dripping hair back. “You’re something else.”I swallowed, glancing back at the empty horiz

Ember I thought I will be able to pull this off successfully, however I'm not so very confident right now.I was wondering what it'll be like with him for the first time as not a business partner… om that topic, what are we really? Logically, he admitted taking a likeness to me, and I might've like him too… no, I likes him too.God's I couldn't even tell exactly when that happens. Inhaling, and exhaling. The sand was cool beneath my feet as I stepped onto the beach. A handful of people were at the shoreline, their voices mingling with the distant crash of waves. My eyes scanned the place, searching for him but there was no sign of him, even though he'd texted he will be here at 6pm, and I'd done a good job spending extra minutes at home to not appear overly excited and too over the date with him, in the end i was still the first to get here. However, my search was set aside when I caught a glimpse of a white yacht anchored a little further out,It was beautiful, I admit, but when

Ember“Ember, hurry up and get out here! We’re starving!” Lyra’s voice rang out from the dining table, teasing but loud enough to make her point.I could almost see her rolling her eyes, a little grin tugged at my lips as I called back, “On my way!”I arranged the dishes on the tray, carrying them to the dining table, where Lyra and Kai were already seated. As I entered, Lyra’s gaze swept over me, and she let out an exaggerated sigh. “Finally,” she muttered, rolling her eyes, her voice filled with drama as she continued sarcastically, “We were this close to death.” she indicated with her fingertips.“Oh please, Lyra,” I growled playfully.Just then, Alpha Jordan walked closer, glancing at her with a raised eyebrow. “What’s going on?”Lyra shot me a mischievous look before turning to him. “It’s Ember,” she said, grinning. “She’s been holed up in the kitchen, smiling like an idiot. I almost got chills seeing her like that, considering how cold she’s been lately.”Alpha Jordan chuckled

MaverickShe broke into a scream as I held her in my arms and leaped off the building. But her palms quickly covered her mouth, muffling the sound when she realized she was safe. We glided through the air until our feet touched the ground, thankfully no one was paying attention to the building, so I was sure no one saw.“That’s insane! You should’ve warned me or something.” She frowned, folding her arms as she walked away.I quickened my pace to catch up. “Did I scare you?” I reached for her hand to slow her down, but she stayed silent, ignoring me completely. Was she upset? I know I shouldn't have done that, she must've been taken off guard, thus leading to her annoyance. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that… I’m really sorry.” I apologized, reaching for her arm.But I was stunned when she suddenly burst out laughing, giving me a playful shove. “You’re apologizing? PresentEmber“So, she wasn't lying when she said you're married?” tilting my head, I asked curiously. Honestly, I wanted to know more, even though I knew I shouldn’t be asking. I shouldn’t be digging into his past, but a part of me still wanted to know.“Yes... she didn't lie. But you have to trust me; I don’t have anything to do with her anymore.”“I guess.”“Yeah…” he replied, and then silence filled the air between us—heavy, almost to the point of suffocation.I lay back on the concrete floor beside him, my hand nearly touching his. I eventually tucked it behind my head, mirroring his posture. We just looked at the sky, feeling the breeze brush our faces—soothing, calming. This was exactly why I loved coming here to clear my head when I felt overwhelmed.I couldn’t help but ask myself at that moment, ‘Do I really deserve happiness? MaverickFlashbackI exploded, bolting out of the cabin. The consuming rage burned through my veins like wildfire, eating everything it touched—my reasoning, my thoughts—clouding them like a fog in the woods, wrapping everything in its misty embrace. I sat there, paralyzed, my hand was still firmly locked in his grasp. “If it was just a one-night thing-” he said, his voice barely above whisper, “-would I have dropped everything and come here to Arizona just to see you?” He exhaled and continued, “You kept running every single time, leaving me worried and distressed. My heart raced and my pulse pounded in my neck. My voice was stuck in my throat, unable to form words. His thumb traced gentle circles on my palm, sending shivers down my spine.
