I woke up the next day and quickly prepared myself to go to the company.
Fortunately, Alpha Jordan wanted Kai to stay with him, since he'll be at home all day with Lyra. Just that I was a little nervous to run into that man again, I don't think I can hide from him, most especially those piercing golden eyes staring into my black ones as if searching for the truth. Furthermore, there was even this dangerous feeling I got from him when I was close to him that day, my senses were yelling at me to run, but there was also this allure too. Pushing my hair backward, I packed it and applied gloss on my lips before grabbing my bag. Alpha Jordans Beta, Chris, will be taking me that morning. I slipped into the car as it drove away from the estate. In no time we were already in the company, "Thank you so much for the ride, you don't have to wait for me, I might take a lot later, so I'll be taking a cab back." "Alright." He nodded and drove away. I also walked into the company before me after taking a deep breath, and approached the receptionist, I asked for directions to the boss's office. She looked up from her screen, smiled, and pointed me towards the elevator. "Third floor, straight down the hall. You can't miss it." I thanked her and stepped into the elevator, feeling a slight flutter in my chest. This was it – the moment I'd been waiting for. The doors opened on the third floor, and I was immediately struck by the sleek, modern decor. The boss's office was at the far end of the hall, with a glass door that offered a glimpse into a spacious, beautiful room. The moment I entered, the boss stood up from behind his mahogany desk, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. " Ember Flynn if I'm not wrong? Welcome. I've been expecting you." His handshake was firm, but not crushing – a good sign, I thought. We exchanged pleasantries, and I couldn't help but notice how nervous he seemed. He fidgeted with his pen, his eyes darting around the room before settling on mine. I wondered inwardly why he was acting so strange around me when In truth i should be the nervous one, but I pushed the thought aside and focused on the task at hand. He handed me a folder containing the contract, his hands brushing against mine in the process. "Please, take a look. Let us know if you're interested in proceeding." His tone was respectful, almost deferential – which confused me even more. I scanned the terms and conditions, my eyes widening as I realized the scope of the project. This was big – really big. I nodded, took a deep breath, and signed on the dotted line. "All good," I said, handing it back to him. He smiled, relief written across his face. "Excellent. We'll be in touch soon, Miss Ember." And with that, our meeting was over. I left the office, contract in hand, feeling accomplished. I entered the cab after giving him directions. I leaned back into the car seat, but my phone dinged, bringing me out of my thoughts. It was Erica, my assistant. [Hi, Ember. I hope you're doing well, I'd like to take a leave of absence for a week, I got a message from home that my grandmother health is unstable, I want to visit her so I can care for her] [Of course, Erica. Take all the time you need. And please give your grandmother my warm regards, I hope she feels better soon] I replied to her and turned off my phone. I soon got out of the cab and went straight into the house. Alpha Jordan and Lyra were really happy to learn that I just got a contract with one of the most successful companies in Florida. The day went by quickly as I went to bed with Kai, the next day, I was getting ready to go and check on the estate that needed interior design since the time given was not that long, so I had to finished everything as soon as I could, and since Erica is now away, my workload had drastically multiple. I took out the documents handed to me and checked the location on it, only to have my eyes almost bulging out of my skull.. The State I saw in the paper made my jaw drop. How could it be Arizona of all places!! What I had in mind was it would be here in Florida, but Arizona? I don't want to go back to that place, all of my bad memories were there, but if only I could take back the documents I signed yesterday. Who signed a contract without reading it properly? Only an overly excited me, How could I have made such a dumb mistake! And if Erica were here, I would've sent her to overlook things there while I managed the rest from here, but with this... I could only sigh with defeat before packing my things I'll be needing for the next week. Kai's things included. "Mommy, what's wrong.. ?" Kai asked, staring at me. I ruffled his hair and said, "it's nothing mommy is fine." I later got out of my room to explain things to Lyra and Alpha Jordan. ***** Arizona I got out of the taxi and paid the driver. During the ride from the airport to this hotel, I noticed everything had changed, the state is no longer what it was when I left four years ago, the roads, most building's, everything had changed a lot. I handed the cash to the driver who drove away then gazed at the hotel in front of me, large and beautiful. I entered with Kai still held by me and we walked up to the receptionists. "Hi, I have a booking here. And I'd like to check in." She flashed a bright smile, "Welcome! May I have your name, please?" "It's Ember Flynn, online booking." I had booked this hotel, not only because of its appearance, but because it was far from a high moon pack house and the daycare system is really good. I got that from the reviews. "Give me a few moments. Let me just check..." She began to type on the computer before her, then she grabbed one key from the rows arranged behind her, "Okay, here you are. Room 314. Here's your key." "Thank you." "You're welcome! The elevator is just down the hall. Enjoy your stay!" "Thanks." I replied and took the key then we headed towards the elevator. Kai was looking around the hotel lobby with his eyes darting around, " Is this a new place, Mommy?" "No, sweetie, I'll just be staying here for a week, and then we'll go back home." He nodded cutely and said, "Okay." I couldn't help but smile and give him a reassuring touch on the shoulder, "It's just a temporary stop, but it's a nice place, isn't it?" He looks around again, then he nods "Yeah..." By now, it was around 3pm in the afternoon, I placed my things inside the room then I took Kai to the daycare right in the hotel, before going to the address on the documents. . .. ... The car stopped at a very huge estate in a remote area. It was so huge that I found it a little hard to believe that it belonged to an individual. It was even larger than the Highmoon Pack house, and the silver fang pack estate in Florida. Nevertheless, I paid the taxi and walked towards the estate. I had to hand over my personal ID card before I was allowed by the people guarding the estate, too much security. I was only here to check the interior and to take in what I'll be designing, since the already built estate only lacked interior design, I walked through the empty rooms with some of the construction workers, taking mental notes and scribbling down the relevant details in my notebook. "Thanks so much for showing me around, and I will be seeing you tomorrow." I turned to them after checking the last room for that day. One of the workers, a friendly-looking guy with a thick beard, smiled and replied, "No worries at all, we will be happy to help. If you need anything else, just give us a shout." I smiled back, feeling grateful for taking me around and introducing me to the estate, "Will do, but I will be going back now, thanks again!" I said, tucking my notebook into my bag, heading out. But, I felt cold running down from my head down my toes when I saw a familiar face of that man, he was smiling good naturedly and said with an ever there grin, "What a coincidence running into you here.”Ember."Bunny." It was that same nickname I told him I hated a lot, however I had to be professional at this instance, and looking around, we were surrounded by workers, so I'm sure he wouldn't try anything funny with me. His black shirt had two buttons undone, and his black hair was styled differently today, "It's fancy running into you here." He stretched his pocketed hand for a handshake which I took. His hand was cold, but I kept my composure as I took back my hand from his and replied with a smile, "Of course it was." I'm not really sure about that because with him here, I wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.Who would believe we're running into each other? but I just couldn't get what he wanted with all of this so I asked, "Are you also a worker here?" He laughed and suddenly stopped, "No, I just came to check things, but it was such a coincidence to run into you here. A good one I
Maverick I stood by the window, gazing out at the garden downward as I sensed someone's presence behind me, his steps was drawing closer, I turned to look at the person. "Ryder," My face gather up a frown. Alex would have to answer why this man was allowed in my house, "Good to see you, Maverick, It's been a while." He grinned. "What brings you here?" I asked curtly, shifting my gaze back to the window. I didn't want to get into small talk. At least not with this one. I heard him exhaled and plopped himself into my sofa, "Not even a drink?" Seeing I didn't reply, he began to say, "Well I'm just worried about your latest venture, I mean weren't you putting a lot on the line?" My gut tightened, as my jaw clenched in irritation. Ryder was one of the few people I could call acquaintances, considering we've known each other for a while now, and I've known him enough to knew he wasn't here for a chitchat. "I believe what I do wasn't any of your business, " "Maverick, ev
Ember I couldn't wrap my head over what Kai said, things like this never happened to him. Kai was the type of boy that shared his things with his friends. Even if his friend did something bad to him, he'd rather keep it to himself to save the friend from getting into trouble. So I was baffled by what he said. "Don't be scared alright? Mommy is here, and you have to promise not to listen to it when it tells you to do bad things alright?" With a gentle tug, I pulled him closer, my eyebrow quivering upward as I rubbed his back in soothing circles. I'm more than worried right now, Kai wasn't old enough to meet his wolf, so how could there possibly be a voice whispering something to him? And to do bad things that is. "Mommy, Kai is hungry and wants a dumpling." He suddenly said, his voice muffled by the fabric I'm wearing. "I will get you dumplings, just stay here and let me change my dress," I said as I sat him on the bed in the room, I quickly took off my dress and threw o
Ember "I thought you were going to a party." I asked Clara who was now walking to where I was with that same astonishment on her face. "I should be asking you that, oh... Wait, now I understand, but you should've told me that you're refusing to come with me because you're actually coming with a date." My brow furrowed as I tried to make sense of Clara's words. I replayed our conversation in my head, I don't remember telling her about a date, in fact I don't have any date, and I'm not even attending the party so what...? "I didn't have a date, and this is the hotel where I'm staying for the time being." I pointed out as she exclaimed loudly, "oh." Then her face suddenly switched, the confusion written on her face a minute ago was gone, now replaced by a brightened face staring at me as she said, "That's great! Because this is actually the party, since you're here, I'm sure you can have a brief glance at the party, you can just show up with me for a few minutes before going
Flashback I rushed into the dining room when I heard Derek's car, I hurriedly arranged the table and cups properly, before taking another spree into the kitchen, I washed my hands and dried them with the hand towels then I hung them back. I smiled, everything was in place, dessert has been made, the cake was baked, and the meal was also prepared. I took a great time that morning grilling the steaks and making sure it was all greasy and a little spicy, just as Derek liked them. His footsteps grew closer, by the time the doorknob twisted and he stepped a foot in, I threw in the air the foil cutout I made shouting… “Welcome back daddy, and happy birth—day” the rest of the words came out almost mechanically as a pair of black heels stepped into the sitting room. Derek stood at 6.2ft tall. His black hair was just like mine, soft and smooth. I'd helped him dry and combed them when I was little. Derek took the hand of the brunette woman behind him and brought her to my side. There w
Ember I don't plan to have any conversation with her as I managed to walk through the little space between us without making any contact with her, even though I'd brushed against the doorway, i prefer that to brushing against her. I was already in the hallway when I heard her footsteps— closer, faster and faster, she was running after me, "Ember..." She called. My eyes turned dark as my jaw clenched, but I kept going without looking back, I don't really want to end up on the headline as a cold blooded murderer, because I know the moment I turned back, I won't be able to control myself, therefore, I keep going, pretending it wasn't her, pretending I'm the only person in the hallway right now, but I underestimated the nerve of the woman. "Ember." She called breathlessly, this time, I felt her quickening her pace, running even faster, her heels clicking on the hallway tiled floor, I felt her closed, and the next second, her hand aiming at my shoulder to pull me back, "Hands off!
Maverick I shouldn't be here tonight, I glanced the watch on my wrist with a straight face as I walked into the party, now it only remained for me to wait for that man. The orchestral was slowly playing in the background, but my eyes didn't leave the watch, why is he taking so damn long! Frowning, I took out my cell phone and put Alex's number on the dial. "Didn't you say he was going to be here in a few minutes? What's taking him so damn long?" "Can you hold for a moment and let me get in contact with him to know what's going on," He said from the other end, putting me on hold. After a few seconds, his voice came through the line again, "He won't be coming tonight, something held him up, I think you should come back now, I've already scheduled another meeting with him in a week time, but I will be the one meeting him, we can't have you strangling him to death.” My brows were tightly knitted together as my fist clenched against the phone, "He should've just said he would
EmberI couldn't think straight, my mind raced with fear, but before I knew what's happening, Mr Nightshade took the boy from Clara's arms and bolted away.I quickly shifted into my human form and sprinted after him. A sleek black car was waiting outside, he put the boy at the back seat as I rushed inside with Clara who was still shaking with fear. The car zoomed away from the hotel and sped into the nearest werewolf owned hospital, he turned off the ignition and jumped out of the car, Kai was now held in my arms as we quickly made for the emergency quarters, but the hospital security officer stopped us from going inside."Please identify yourself before you can go in." Werewolf's establishments were often wary of threats coming to them, so even though there were several pack hospitals around the city where humans could also go for treatment, but supernatural being like werewolf needed their IDs to be allowed an entrance. After all, they couldn't risk the existence of supernatural b
EmberI stood there, heart racing, as Astrid appeared in the doorway. The moment she saw me, her brow furrowed, a frown settling across her face. She clutched her round belly as if it could shield her from whatever she was feeling. There was a tension in the air, with a mix of worry and something else I couldn't quite decipher at that moment.Astrid’s hand paused on the door, ready to slam it shut, but I stepped in her way. Her glare could have burned a hole through me.“What are you doing here?” she shot back.“I’m not here because I want to be,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “If I’d known it was your place, I would’ve turned around. But since I’m here, I need answers. What happened four years ago?”The silence between us was heavy with unspoken words. I could see the conflict in her eyes—anger mixed with something deeper. However I wasn’t about to back down; I needed to know, I didn't came all the way here to be slammed the door upon on, all my prejudice against her was temporarily
EmberI threw two dresses into the mini box, grabbed a few necessities, and finally took my spare toothbrush, just in case. After zipping it up, I carried it out. Lyra was solemnly wiping Kai's body with a wet towel. I exhaled. I can't back away now—I have to go. I walked up to his side and crouched next to him. “Mommy, is that you?” His little fingers landed on my cheeks, and with all my strength, I pressed back my sobs, whispering in a broken voice, “Yes, baby, it's your mommy.” “Lyra said you're going to be back soon.” He took a short pause, blinking rapidly as he stared at my face before eventually asking, “Are you leaving me alone?” “No, baby, I would never do that. The thing is, Mommy has to get you chocolates, a bunch of them.” “I… don’t want chocolates. I only want Mommy.” Streaks of tears ran down my face, and this time I didn’t wipe them off. Instead, I let them flow freely. “I’m sorry, baby… Mommy is really sorry you're going through this. You know what? Mommy
EmberI kept staring at the letter with wide eyed, confused; first I had know idea how this got here, secondly how the heck did the person knew that I wants answers, answers to everything, the gut feeling is gnawing on me, yet I always finds a make believe to rid that thought, just like this letter stated that I wanted answers. But what answers would I probably want? What answers do I really seek? Why can't I say it, why don't I know it. I stared at the address which clearly reads a house in Arizona. Do I really want to do this? Honestly, I have no idea, whatever this is, whatever will come from it, but I folded it and put it back going out of the room to the yard. For some peace and quiet, maybe I could fatten my thoughts and come up with a reasonable plan on how to help my son get better. And maybe I could even go back to Arizona, in contrast to the fact that the man had come all the way from Arizona to Florida to look for me, but since I pushed him away, he definitely must've go
EmberAfter Maverick was gone, I couldn't make sense of what's going on. I washed my face in the bathroom, swinging back my hair to get off the water that drenched it, eventually grabbing a towel and wrapped it around my head like a burrito. Exhaling, I walked out of my room to check Lyra's door which was still very much locked, thus has been on lock since the moment she stormed out of my face in the sitting room.I walked into the sitting room to touch Kai's forehead, he was still burning up, but not as hot as he was when I'd come back. He wasn't supposed to get sick again since Lyra got him the herbs that had kept his condition stabilized since we came back to Florida, so I never have to bother about looking for the man, however hearing the news earlier was not only a blow to me, but it makes me even more panicked. And thankfully, having him around for a few seconds reduces the boy's temperature, however, now I can't really tell for sure because he's a little hot now doesn't mean
MaverickI had planned tonight to be very colourful and bright so Ember could enjoy it as much as she wants, after having Alex scout around for one of the biggest and beautiful beach around here I had shut down the whole place so we can have all the time— Alone, and I was glad she really came looking stunning in her dress.I had made sure to also reserve the top floor of the restaurant on the island where I hoped we'll spend the night, but she was so curious to know what I have in store, however I was determined to not share it with her.We got off the yacht and made for the building, however her phone rang, but just after the call ended she was trembling. Her face turned so pale that I had to calm her down. She wanted me to follow her, which I did without a second thought. The sound of that boy going sick affected me so much that I yelled at the sailor to get the Yacht moving again. When we got out of the car, I was really surprised to see the familiar environment we're in. Why would
Ember. I glanced back, he caught me staring at the distance and his cold hand grabbed my chin bringing my face to him. “It'll come back.” he casually replied, “Or do you want it back now? Are you feeling cold?” “I'm fine.” I answered rolling my eyes. He was now back to my side. “Okay, when it comes back, we should probably go to the next surprise.” he said, and i understand how awkward this was for him as much as it is for me. “Oh, that…” I trailed off as the heat flushed my face, remembering what we're on to a while ago before the thing about him and Alexandra, “Yeah… other surprises,” I replied non enthusiastically fisting my hair and squeezing out the water that had drenched it. “Are you sure you're not cold?” He asked again drawing closer. “Not yet.” I answered pushing back a little but I underestimated the man as he swiftly followed grabbing my waist, his palm flew to examine my forehead, “it's a good thing you're not catching a cold yet.” “I told you I'm not
EmberWe're staring at each other's faces as though we're in a competition. I thought he was going to say something but he didn't; he just kept staring.Biting my lips, “Do you have a sibling or... ?” I gulped the remaining question down my throat, considering the facts that I never saw him with anyone except Alex. “Only child.” he shrugged so casually. “Don't even ask about the parents... they're no more.”“Oh...” I muttered trailing off, suddenly feeling bad for probing at his wounds. “I shouldn't have asked.”“i said I'm ready to answer your questions didn't I? So go ahead ask any questions and I'll answer.”I searched his face for any traces of lies but found nothing so I licked my lips and asked, “The other day at the rooftop what are you trying to say about Alexandra?”He thought for a while before smacking his lips, “Are you sure you would like to hear that?” he asked again, making me want to know more about why he seemed so hesitant when he'd been the one to bait me in the fi
Ember “So… now that the yacht’s gone, what are we supposed to do?” I asked, glancing around at the wide-open water stretching as far as I could see. “Wait for it, I guess,” he replied, way too casually. “Probably just ran low on gas.” I narrowed my eyes, noting the way he smirked ever so slightly. “Is this some kind of setup? Was this your big surprise?” He chuckled, shaking his head. “Not at all. This was definitely not part of the plan. But look—it’ll come back. We just have to wait.” I shifted uneasily, trying to mask my growing anxiety with humor. “What if we end up living out some kind of real-life Jaws nightmare?” He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Seriously? You’re a werewolf—you’re supposed to be the one scaring off predators.” I rolled my eyes, smirking back. “Yeah, well, if wolves can eat fish, why shouldn’t a shark be able to enjoy some wolf?” He let out a soft laugh, sweeping his dripping hair back. “You’re something else.” I swallowed, glancing back a
“Do you want to take a sit over there over a cup of wine?”“Alcoholic?” I asked the man preparing to say no, there's no way I'm drinking wine that contain alcohol, not after my experiences with alcohol. “Fruity, it's tastes like an alcohol, but it has not even 1% in it, do you want to give it a try?” “No harm in trying.” I chuckled. The Yatch had slowed down now, in the middle of the sea, “Why aren't ships or Yatch other than this one moving anyway?” I asked curiously moving to the swim platform. I was expecting to see Yatch or cruise ships moving around but none, I had noticed at the beach that there were lesser people compared to how crowded beach used to. “The whole place is ours for today, and don't tell me you're dunking your legs in the water in that?” He pointed to my dress.I stared down embarrassed to look at my flowing black gown, I laughed awkwardly, “I will be changing that.” I never thought about that sincerely.“You should, there's a lot to choose from in the first se
