I checked my watch for the third time while walking to the branch. The branch was a little clearing under two trees where the branches created an arch. It was a spot that my friends and I would meet up at and walk home together. I had originally told them to go along without me but I had urgent messages and didn’t feel like waking home alone.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the girls' laughter. I collapsed on the ground beside them, breathing deeply.
“Are you alright,” Shay asked, brushing my frazzled curls from my face.
“Aren’t you supposed to be tutoring that athlete who is excelling in all his classes because he can’t get enough of you,” Brianna teased.
I rolled my eyes at her. Jay did not like me that way. He was just being nice. A guy like that could have any girl on campus, why would he like me.
“Your heart is pounding,” Thalia commented, shuffling closer. "Do you like him," she said suggestively, wriggling her brows.
“No! It is because I just had a close encounter with death himself,” I exaggerated. Yes, my heart was running a marathon and jumped a hurdle as the words left my mouth.
“What do you mean,” Shay asked worriedly.
“Gideon Demetrius,” I said slowly, taking out the platinum card from my bag and handing it to Shay. “He wants to talk to the knight in shining tin foil,” I said, referring to Shay’s mate.
“What,” Thalia commented dumbfounded. I nodded slowly.
“That’s a platinum, plus unlimited Lexus card. That’s the hottest club in town. They don’t even let in the rich kids into that area,” Brianna marveled. I shrugged and glanced at Shay.
“What are you going to do,” I asked her.
“We don’t really have much of a choice, do we,” she said quietly and I shook my head.
“Okay, let’s get going now,” she stated.
We all got up and had a long quiet walk back to the house. Alpha Thomas had provided a house for his son Erik, to live close to college. The college was located at the heart of town with enough land in every direction to not be affected by noise. There were only quiet business places surrounding it. A café, a floral shop, a small bakery and more beyond those were hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, diners, clubs, a park, you name it. Lenon was a fairly large town, on the outskirts was a forest where the Pack reside. There were also a few suburban homes and mansions everyone called uptown.
Yep, that’s where Erik lived. It was walking distance to the two storey mansion but sometimes we like to order a cab and take the long way home. Nevertheless we arrived home- well my temporary residents. I prepared myself for the teasing as the boys' boisterous laughter could be heard from outside. Shay opened the door and entered the house, I closed it as I entered last. I gave her a thumbs up as I rushed up towards my room.
So what! I’m a wuss. I despised confrontation. Though I also wanted to be helpful, so I changed into a military print cargo pants and an oversized cropped T-shirt. I went down stairs and it was quiet and empty. I found Shay in the kitchen sipping straight vodka.
“You know if you wanted me to make you a cocktail you could have just asked,” I said, stuffing my hands into my pocket.
“Nope, I need it like this,” she said groggily.
“What happened,” I asked worriedly.
“Nothing other than the fact that my soulmate is keeping things from me,” she said, her voice getting lost in her throat.
“Like seriously, you’re the strongest person I know. You are the future Alpha female of a pack, you are not supposed to be drinking your sorrows away over a guy. He’s the one that’s supposed to be drinking his sorrows away over you,” I said, feeling a passion ignite in my soul.
“I...I don’t know, okay. I asked him if I could come and he barked at me: no,” she said, the frustration and anger evident in her voice.
“So, he doesn’t own you. You are equals. If he doesn’t want you to go, screw him. It's your decision to make. P. S, I don't think you should go, things could get messy,” I said, contradicting myself.
Shay sniffed and rolled her eyes. “You're right,” she said with a nod and I sighed in relief. I couldn’t live with myself if any of my friends got seriously hurt. “It is my decision. I’m going and you are coming with me,” she said, digging my grave and dropping me in it.
“No,” I objected as she began to pull me away.
“Weren’t you the one that said you’d always be my knight in silver armor,” her words stiffened my bones.
I didn't say that…well not that way.
A few hours later we were all dressed to impress, well, all except me. I was dressed in high waist jeans that showed off too much curve in every direction and a sweater top that ended above my jeans waist. Thankfully, I had my coat on and refused to take it off but only to leave it open since inside the club was hot.
Shay lead the way with a perfect confidence up the stairs towards the V. I. P area were a small line was. I leaned against the handrail and checked my account. Mr. Demetrius had payed me triple the usual amount. I glanced up towards the glass walls and you wouldn’t believe the eyes that were on me. He motioned to something behind me. I glanced back and really wanted to kill someone.
Mr. Alpha’s son pushed past me rather harshly and gripped Shay's arm roughly.
“What the hell are you doing here,” he said angrily.
“Let go of my hand and I came out with my friends to have fun,” she snapped, tugging at her hand.
“Where’s the card,” he growled. She tugged at her hand obviously being hurt.
“Erik, let go,” Brianna defended her best friend but he growled at her and she cowered back. Brianna was a beta wolf, all of the girls were beta wolves so they were no match against an alpha.
A hand on my ass caused me to push at the closest person to me. The pervert Colton. I moved away from him in disgust and pushed past the girls toward Shay and Erik. I slipped her purse out of her hand and pushed between the two of them, glaring at him when he finally let her go.
He growled at me but one of the upsides of being a half breed is that you can do whatever you want under no control.
“Know your place, half breed,” he snapped.
“Likewise,” I muttered, pulling out the card from Shay’s purse. I handed it to the bouncer. “Zaira Silvera,” I said with a dash of pride. He marked something on his clipboard and handed the card back to me.
“All of them, Miss. Silvera,” he asked motioning to the long line of wolves behind me.
“Ladies first and him,” I said pointing to the girls and Erik. “Karter can come too,” I said, noticing the bundle of red hair just joining the line.
“You bitch, who do you think you are,” Colton slurred, spitting all over himself.
“Bitch with a platinum card,” I said cockily. Karter chuckled as he passed by me.
I slipped the card back into Shay’s purse. Karter was Erik's beta and Brianna’s on and off again. He was a good guy. They were just hesitant, since they weren’t sure when their mates would appear. I was rooting for them though.
“Happy you could join,” Gideon said with a smirk playing on his lips. He guided us to a private area towards the back of the room, where we had a perfect view of everything. The entire room had a dark blue themed layout. There were colorful lights flashing from below where the true party raged. I took a seat on the U shaped black sofa with a perfect view of downstairs activity. Everyone else spread out. Erik and Shay took a seat closest to Gideon, who sat in the middle of the sofa. Brianna and Karter sat across from me and Thalia, who kept sending shy glances at Gideon.
“So let's get down to business, shall we,” Gideon said, motioning for a waiter.
“What do you want from me,” the prick asked with a gulp. When the waiter came with a bottle of champagne and Gideon poured him a glass, he downed it in one go. I pushed down the urge to snort. Homeboy was scared. Ha, serve you right for hurting my friend.
“An alliance. Soon your father will pass on the mantle to you and you're going to need all the alliances you can get,” Gideon responded.
“What’s in it for you,” Shay asked softly, tilting her head at Gideon. There was curiosity in her eyes. I mean they were in mine but I wasn’t that crazy. My palms grew sweaty as Gideon stared at her.
Gideon shrugged. “An alliance with one of the most powerful packs in the North,” he casually stated. He wasn’t quite lying but he wasn’t telling the truth either.
“All alliances, future and past goes through the present Alpha and Luna,” Karter spoke up. “Its duration determines if it's upheld by the future alpha and Luna,” he continued. He was a pack law book.
“If that’s what you feel is best,” Gideon stated, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
“Hey, you wanna help me get a drink,” Thalia whispered to me. I nodded and we left the couch. She was probably feeling the weird tension there and how we didn’t exactly fit in.
At the bar, she ordered a few—a lot of drinks that had me worried. Thalia was guarded but she wasn’t reckless so I decided to trust that she could handle her liquor. I didn’t drink at all. I had bad experiences with alcohol and stayed far away from it. I choose to watch the group in the far corner instead.
What was he planning? Did he want to take over the pack? No, he could have killed the alpha years ago and grasped the throne. He had something different planned and honestly it scared me but at the same time, I was curious. Curiosity killed the cat but I'd be careful.
When your life is as boring as mine, you develop a routine that’s more of a habit that you can’t quit. Wake up, do a few minutes of indoor exercises, shower, do homework, watch a movie, go to class, eat every 5 seconds, write a few lines to a book you have been working on for the past 3 years, watch another movie, idle, sleep and repeat. Yep, the life of an introverted werewolf. It wasn't much but I got by just fine. On weekends, young pack members go over to the pack house to train or too assist. I mainly assist even if I’m not really a part of the pack. So why was I currently walking towards the training grounds? Well, because I'm a really good friend and this is what good friends do. “What do you think of Gideon's proposal," Shay asked. Her first words spoken since this morning or last night. I shrugged. "There seems to be more to the story than he's letting on," I replied honestly. "Maybe you can ask him, maybe find out what he really wants," Shay suggested hopefully, slowing
Have you ever woken up with a blaring headache? So loud, your ears felt numb. My vision was blurry and my throat was dry. I blinked furiously trying to clear my vision. The room that I was in was dark. I furrowed my brow as I raised my upper body to glance around. I was laying on a soft bed with what felt like silk sheets. "The hell," I said, feeling a nauseating feeling come over me as I spoke and the dark room began spinning. I groaned and closed my eyes. I felt as if I had been hit by a truck. I wrapped my hand around my torso and sighed. What had happened? Oh, gosh, don't tell me that I was hungover and where on God's green earth was I? I opened my eyes. They struggled to adjust properly to my dark environment because my supernatural juju was too busy fixing my body up. Though, I didn't stop trying to look around the room. It was when the blurriness subsided did I see it. The quick movement of a shadow. I instinctively leaned forward watching it closely. "Is someone there,"
There are two kinds of people in the world, the bad and the worst. Gideon Demetrius was on his way to becoming the wicked. Growing up on the run, everything he wanted he had to take it, chipping at his soul bit by bit. An uncontrollable hunger, the light so very far away. He was caged within his own shell, alone with only the darkness. Within the shadows, he changed into the manipulative bastard who sat at the center of a literature lecture, distracting every feminine and a few masculine eyes in the class. I rolled my eyes and went back to scribbling notes in my notebook. If only they knew the truth about the most feared wolf in…well, the world. They would be running for the hills as we speak. It was easy to say someone was feared but to actually feel the hair on the back of your neck stand up when they walked by, was something else. Even now about 5 seats away from him, a thin sheet of sweat began to coat my palms. I ran my hands over my baggy jeans and tried to pay keen attention
