Chapter 9

Author: Little Dazey
Xavier worked fast and had the results within a single night. Even though our daughter had been cremated, the tissue from the placenta had been enough for testing.

Someone knocked on the door again.

When I opened it, Xavier stood there—unshaven, eyes bloodshot from exhaustion. The heavy scent of alcohol and cigarettes clung to him, making my stomach turn as I instinctively covered my nose.

"Eloise, I'm sorry," he said, his voice raw. "I didn't know she was mine. I thought—"

I did not let him finish. "Reina told you she saw me at a bar that night. Did you ever stop to wonder why she was there? Who she was with?"

Xavier stiffened, his expression briefly flickering with confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Nothing." I exhaled, exhausted. "Just leave, Xavier. I don't want to see you anymore."

As I pushed the door shut, he caught it with his hand. I could not care less and slammed it anyway.

The door crushed his fingers, and he let out a pained grunt, his lips trembling slightly. He said

Reina pushed open the door and asked, "Xavier, aren't we supposed to have lunch together? What are you—"She stopped mid-sentence when she saw me sitting at the desk.Xavier instinctively glanced at me before his expression hardened. "Why are you here? I don't have time right now."Reina blinked, her tone laced with disappointment. "Xavier, you haven't answered my calls in days. What's Eloise doing here? She never cared about the company before."I did not bother looking at her; my attention focused on the numbers in front of me. I replied, "I'm starting to care now. Mom left it to me, after all. It's only right that I take over instead of leaving it in the hands of an outsider."Xavier's back stiffened slightly. He glanced at Reina and said, "As you can see, I've been busy. You should head home."However, Reina did not leave. Instead, she slid into the chair he had been sitting in. She asked, "Why can't I stay? You always said you wanted me by your side."She looked at me as sh

I snapped and said, "Reina, what do you want?"I yanked my arm free, sending her stumbling backward. She hit the ground just as Xavier arrived, and in the next second, she was in his arms."Xavier, don't be mad at Eloise," she whispered, her voice trembling. "No matter what I do, she'll always hate me… It's my fault."The situation had escalated so quickly that I barely had time to react. I shouted, "Reina, you were the one who grabbed me!"However, Xavier did not even look at me. His attention was on Reina, his expression filled with concern. Then, his gaze snapped toward me, full of anger."Enough, Eloise! She's your sister. Why do you always have to target her?"Without waiting for a response, he ignored the murmuring guests and carried Reina to a private room.I immediately followed him. The moment he stepped out of the room, I grabbed his arm, stopping him. The warmth in his eyes, the tenderness he had shown when he told me he wanted to marry me, was gone."Eloise, how lon

Before pushing me down the stairs, my younger sister, Reina York, smiled sweetly and said, "My dearest Eloise, you're just using your baby to keep Xavier by your side, right? That's just too bad—Xavier doesn't want your child. Keeping it around would just be an eyesore."The world spun as I tumbled down the stairs, a sharp pain stabbing through my stomach. Reina did not stick around to watch. Instead, she just walked away, leaving me bleeding on the floor. My husband, Xavier Morales, was nowhere to be found when I needed him the most. The baby was too small, and all that was left after the cremation was a tiny handful of ashes. I placed them in a clear glass vial, holding onto the only thing I had left of her. When I returned to the house, it was eerily empty, with barely any trace of Xavier ever living there. He was hardly home, and I had spent my time there alone. The blood from that night had dried on the living room floor. There were still the baby clothes and toys I had lovin

Xavier never cared about me or our child, let alone my feelings. Even now, after losing our baby, he did not even realize it had happened.I took a step back, my voice cold as I said, "Don't touch me, you filth."Once, I had clung to him, desperate for his attention. However, I could no longer stand him coming near me.Xavier started to step forward, but Reina spoke up first. "Eloise, Xavier asked you a question. Did you give birth? Why are you hiding the baby? He's busy, and you must be more understanding. You—""Reina, shut your mouth!" I raised my hand and slapped her across the face, pouring all the pain of losing my daughter into that single strike.I growled, saying, "You know what you did to me. Don't push me, or I swear, I'll kill you."Xavier was about to say something, but at that moment, his expression twisted with fury. He shoved me hard, and I stumbled, nearly dropping the vial holding my daughter's ashes. He yelled, "Eloise, she's your sister, and you hit her?"My

Xavier hesitated for a moment, his gaze flickering to my stomach before a cold smirk tugged at his lips.He said mockingly, "Eloise, you're getting really creative. Now that you know you can't fool me, you're trying to pin this on Reina? You think I'd believe you?"Tears blurred my vision, and my heart ached so painfully that I could hardly breathe."It was her!"I lunged forward, rage burning through me, desperate to make Reina pay for my daughter's life.Reina let out a terrified shriek and clung to Xavier, trembling. "Xavier, help me! Eloise is trying to kill me! What did I ever do to deserve this? Why does she hate me so much?"Xavier pulled her protectively into his arms, and before I could react, his hand struck my face with a vicious slap."Enough, Eloise! She's your sister, and you're accusing her of this? Just because your baby is gone doesn't mean Reina had anything to do with it!"Reina whimpered, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks, and Xavier's expression instantl

My daughter's ashes scattered across the floor, and I scrambled to gather them with my hands like a madwoman.Xavier frowned. "Eloise, what is wrong with you? Why are you bringing dirt into the house?"Reina's eyes flashed with something sinister before she leaned weakly against Xavier's shoulder. She said softly, "Xavier, it wasn't on purpose. I'll clean it up."She stood up and grabbed a broom while Xavier pinned my arms back to keep me from stopping her."No! That's my daughter's ashes! Reina, what are you doing?!" I screamed, thrashing desperately, but it was useless. I could only watch as Reina swept away every last trace of my precious baby."Xavier, where should I dump this?" Reina asked casually.Xavier finally let go of me. "Flush it down the toilet. It's disgusting. You shouldn't touch it—so much dust, you'll make yourself sick."He reached for the dustpan, fully intending to dump my daughter's remains into the toilet."No!" I let out a bloodcurdling scream and threw

The water swirled, carrying my daughter's ashes in circles before swallowing them completely. I remained frozen, my hand still reaching into the toilet, my eyes wide with disbelief. That was all that was left of her—the only proof that she had ever existed. However, even that was gone, and it was all because of Xavier and Reina.A tidal wave of hatred surged through me. I shot to my feet and started pounding my fists against Xavier's body like a mad woman.I screamed, "Xavier, you're a monster! You flushed my daughter away! Give her back to me!"He shoved me off with brutal force. My balance broke, and my head slammed against the wall with a sickening crack.Warm blood trickled down my forehead, pooling around me as I collapsed onto the same bloodstained floor from the night before."Eloise, stop acting insane," Xavier said. His voice was devoid of warmth, filled only with condescension. He said, "If you stop making a scene, I'll take you to see the baby. If you want a wedding,

Xavier instinctively rejected the news. "That's impossible."Then, he scoffed, saying, "Connor, it looks like Eloise has gotten really good at this. She even managed to get you on her side to trick me?"Connor's voice dropped. "Mr. Morales, I'm telling the truth. The baby was born premature and passed away shortly after. I can send you the clinical report and death certificate."After that, Xavier's phone buzzed with incoming documents.Connor said, "Mr. Morales, the baby has already been cremated, but the funeral hasn't been held yet. Should we—"Before he could finish his sentence, Xavier hung up abruptly, staring at me in disbelief. He blurted out, "Why didn't you tell me?"I flashed a hollow, bitter smile. "How was I supposed to tell you? I didn't even know where you were."I had just given birth, and I was weak. Even so, I endured it all as I clutched my daughter's lifeless body, crying myself unconscious.Meanwhile, Xavier had abandoned his work and seemingly disappeared

I lifted my head sharply, staring at Xavier in shock. I asked, "Someone else's child?"He was the first and only man I had ever been with.Reina had returned the same day I moved into Xavier's villa. He had been drunk that night and mistook me for Reina. We ended up sleeping together that night. When he woke up the next morning and saw me beside him, his face twisted with shock and then disgust."Eloise, you're unbelievable. You knew I loved Reina and still threw yourself at me."After that, I got pregnant. However, he had not been happy, not even for a second. He was not happy because he did not believe the baby was his. The thought was so absurd that I laughed out loud.I asked, "Then tell me, Xavier, whose child do you think it was?"His expression darkened as he slammed the bowl onto the table. "You know damn well. I'm not going to argue with you about this."Before I could respond, his phone rang—it was Reina. Without another word, he turned and walked out.I sat there i

Xavier's patience snapped, and his voice rose in frustration. "Then what do you want?! Eloise, don't push me. I already agreed to marry you. What more do you want from me?"He was right. For so many years, all I had ever wanted was to be his wife. I had loved him so much that I had thrown away my dignity and self-respect.I had loved Xavier enough to stay by his side without a title, carrying his child while he paraded Reina around as his true love.Even when he introduced Reina to the world, claiming she was the woman he loved, I had not dared to question him. I had poured everything into loving him, but now, there was nothing left inside me.I was exhausted. I had loved him enough, and I did not want to love him anymore.I did not say another word. Instead, I dragged my battered, broken body, and walked away from that house.Later, I returned to my own home—a villa my mom had left me before she passed away. The nursery was still filled with everything I had carefully prepared f
