Katie's POV
Walking through the streets of Red Moon Pack, pictures of my dad were plastered in every corner of the streets. He was running for the position of Alpha President, and his beloved pack members were campaigning for him as they shared fake stories of his good deeds.I call them fake because, for the past seventeen years, he has never bothered about my well-being. Yes, I'm his illegitimate daughter, he raped my mom when he was drunk, and instead of owning up and taking responsibility for his actions, my mom who was nothing but an omega was threatened to keep quiet, while he went ahead to marry the former Pack's councilors's daughter, Joanna, and they have a daughter who is just a month younger than me named Jessica.I hate this Pack and everyone in it. They all know I'm an illegitimate child and they even know how I was conceived but they chose to turn a blind eye, and instead, decided to bully my mother and me into silence.I've never felt any sense of belonging here, and I can't wait to leave this hellhole and give me and my mother a better life than we truly deserve. But my plans of living are yet to bear fruits, well for one I was still underage, and I can't just ask my mom to leave without any solid plans in place, but soon enough I'll have everything sorted out."Hey, Katie!" I heard a familiar voice call me from behind making me freeze at a spot. It was none other than Leslie, the only girl who has taken it upon herself to make my life miserable. Other Pack members bully me but not as much as Leslie and her cronies. She was friends with my step sister Jessica so I guess that's why she feels she's untouchable."Ignoring us, are you?" She asked with her hands folded across her chest as she walked towards me."I– I'm-""Just look at her," one of her cronies said as she eyed me and chewed her gum carelessly. "Do you even wash your hair? Why is it such a mess?" She asked with disdain written all over her. With how she said it and the look in her eyes, one would think I'm a walking pile of garbage. But there was absolutely nothing wrong with my hair, I may not use expensive hair products like the other girls to make my hair bouncy and shiny, as well as bring out my curls, but I make sure my hair is neat."This would help," the girl said and smeared the gum she was chewing on my hair."I–""Here," Leslie shoved about 15 books at me. "These are our assignments, we want them done by evening," she instructed. "You already know what will happen if they aren't ready by evening.""B– but Leslie," I began to argue. "There's–""Just look at her, you've grown some balls, huh?" She snarled. "Listen here tramp," she sneered. "Just because your whorish mother seduced her way to your daddy's bed, doesn't mean you're suddenly important, you hear me?" She snarled. "Your Dad doesn't even want you, because he knows you have whorish genes like your momma.""My mum is not a whore," I retorted. "She was ra–"One of Leslie's cronies pulled my lips. "Just shut up, tramp!" She snarled and raised her hand to hit me."Let go of her!" Another familiar voice came from behind."This doesn't concern you Ryan, mind your business," Leslie snarled. "This is girls' business.""So girls' business involves bullying, huh?" Ryan said as he glared at Leslie. "You seriously don't want to piss me off.""Fine," Leslie said and raised her hand in mock surrender. "Remember what I told you bitch. I need my assignments done by evening," she whispered into my ears, and shoved me aside as she left, making me fall to the ground."Are you okay?" Ryan stretched out his hand, as he helped me to my feet.Ryan was fair, like pale white, with dirty brown hair and a pair of deep blue eyes that glowed with love, where you could get lost if you stared too much. Ryan didn't have an athletic physique like most guys his age. I think it has to do with him not having his Dad's Alpha wolf, but that doesn't matter. I still find him incredibly attractive."You don't have to do their homework for them, you know?" He told me."It's fine, Ryan," I told him. "Thanks for rescuing me.""It's no biggie," Ryan said with a smile across his face, making my heart skip a beat. I've had a crush on Ryan for as long as I can remember. I seriously wish he would turn out to be my mate once I turn 18 in a few months. I can't imagine having one of my bullies turn out to be my mate, the thought of that made me cringe.Ryan was the current Alpha's son, and just like me he had a weak wolf, he didn't inherit his father's Alpha wolf, but no one dared bully him or they'd face the wrath of his parents. In the entire Red Moon Pack, Ryan is the only one that's actually nice to me, he doesn't care if I was a product of rape, or if people referred to my mum as a whore, to him I was no different from all the other Pack Members. Ryan was the only person who gave me presents on my birthday apart from my mum.Times have changed, and the position of Alpha is not being held by inheritance, an election is being conducted and the Pack members are to decide who their next Alpha would be.My Dad, on the other hand, was contesting for Alpha President, he'll be the head of all the Alpha's in our region. There are about six regions, and whoever the Alpha president is would be in control of all the regional affairs.Sincerely speaking I want him to lose, and lose shamelessly so that he wouldn't be able to show his face to anyone ever again. That'll be some payback for all the heartache he caused my mom and me. Most especially me, he needs to know how it feels to want something terribly and not get it."Where are you headed?" Ryan asked, breaking my train of thought."I– hmm," I stumbled for words. "I'm going to work."I work part-time at one of the Pack's cafes. This was an avenue for the Pack members to bully me more as they sent me on the silliest of errands. But I don't mind, I needed the cash, and the cash plays a huge role in my plans of leaving this hellhole. I've been able to save some money but it still isn't enough to move to the capital district with my mum, but I believe working a few more months after I turn eighteen I would have been able to gather a reasonable amount to help us start afresh."Let me go with you," Ryan offered. "I don't trust those girls not to come back.""Thank you," I said, avoiding eye contact with him as my cheeks heated.Ryan and I walked to the Cafe just having little random conversations about everything and nothing in particular."Thank you, Ryan," I said, as we arrived at the Cafe."It's nothing," Ryan said with that killer smile of his. "See you in school."Ryan turned around to leave while I went into the Cafe, and made my way straight to the changing room, ignoring the sneers from the Pack members.Ding! A message popped up on my phone screen as I was about to take off my clothes.'Katie, come to the hospital now! Your mom had an accident on her way to the grocery store. She's in a critical condition.Katie's PovMy heart sank as I read the message. Without a second thought, I dashed out of the Cafe, grabbed my colleague's scooter keys, and rode straight to the hospital, not paying heed to my colleague who was screaming at the top of her lungs that I should return her scooter."Where's my mom?" I asked the receptionist at the hospital as soon as I got in.She glanced at me with disdain and got back to pressing her computer."Where's my mom?!" I growled and banged the front desk. She looked up at me lazily and pointed to the room. "Room 103."I raced through the hospital corridor with my heart pounding in my chest as different thoughts ran through my mind. My mum has the best healing abilities in the entire region, I'm not just exaggerating. I've seen her heal people who were left for dead, so getting a text that she was in a critical condition scares me out of my wits.As I reached the room, I took in a deep breath before pushing the door open. Tears welled up in my eyes as I saw m
Katie's PovI woke up to the sound of a nonstop knock on my door. Last night after I came back from the hospital, I could hardly sleep as all I could do was cry over the death of the only person who ever truly loved me, my mom. Groggily, I stumbled out of bed. I couldn't help but wonder who could be at the door, as no one in the Pack visits us. Groggily making my way to the front door, I hurt my pinky toe."Ouch!" I winced in pain, as I limped the rest of the way to the door.Opening the door, I realized it was mid-afternoon, I must have slept all morning because I couldn't sleep last night. My father stood at the other end of the door dressed in his usual suit and tie, and beside him was a lady I had never seen before in my life."What's going on?" I asked as I glanced at both of them. "Have you guys found what happened to my mom's wolf?""Let's go inside please," the lady spoke. "So we can talk properly."I furrowed my brow at her."I'm sorry," she apologized. "I'm Stella Bowman,"
Katie's PovI was beyond stunned and highly disappointed, mostly at myself for believing that a monster could change overnight. He has never cared about him, so my mom's death was definitely not going to make him start caring."Oh you poor thing," Joanna's tiny voice snapped me out of my train of thought, and then she pulled me closer to her and enveloped me in a tight hug."Poor Katie, I'm so sorry for your loss," she muttered and wiped a fake tear from her eyes. The reporters saw this as a one-in-a-million act and didn't waste time in taking pictures."Don't worry you'll always have a place to call home," Joanna said, as she broke the hug. Their level of hypocrisy made me cringe. "Jessica, come over here," Joanna waved at her daughter, my step-sister.Jessica walked over to where we stood surrounded by reporters, with a forced smile on her lips."I'm really sorry about your mum," Jessica said and wrapped her arms around me."Awww," her mother cooed. "She loves her step-sister alrea
"No," I muttered.Jessica squinted her brows as she stared at me for a few seconds. "Okay," she said dismissively. That night, my dreams were plagued with nightmares of my mum pleading with me to get justice for her. Three times that same night, I woke up trembling from the haunting images, and my entire body was drenched in sweat. The nightmares felt so real, and every time I drifted off to sleep it continued. It felt like my mum's spirit was urging me to uncover the truth of her death.Morning soon arrived, with the morning light seeping into my room. I slid out of bed, took a shower, and got dressed for school, before making my way downstairs.Getting downstairs, I noticed that the house was quiet, it looked like not a single soul was in it. I don't know if it's me just overthinking, but back when my mum was alive, breakfast with her was something I looked forward to all the time. It was my favorite part of my day."Good–""Your breakfast is on the dining table," the first person I
Killian's POVFor a 22-year-old, and given the current time, one would think I'd be allowed to choose a life partner for myself since I haven't found my mate, but no, my parents who feel they always know best decided to choose an arranged mate for me. I guess that's one of the perks of being the sole heir to Hux enterprise, a multi-billion dollar company founded by my grandparents.I sat at the six-seater dining table with my parents seated at both ends, as they went on and on talking about my fiance and arranged mate Ana. Their conversation was mainly about how nice it would be to take her out on a date to the newly opened five-star restaurants at Greenville's Avenue, but I had my mind on something else and was not interested in what they were saying.I tapped my feet impatiently under the table, as I played around with my food which was growing cold. My parents didn't seem to notice that I just sat down there but I wasn't really with them, especially since they decided to make the b
Katie's PovI woke up to the blaring sound of my alarm. This time around it sounded louder than normal and it irked me. Still half asleep, I slapped my hand to the right to turn it off but my hand landed on the bed, and not on my alarm."Where am I?" I mumbled, as I slowly rubbed my eyes open. Everything looked entirely different, the bed, the room– then my memories began to pour back in, and I recalled that I had moved in with my so-called father and his family, so I was in the room allocated to me. Well, at least for one, the bed was soft, and more spacious than my previous bed.I stretched my arm further and reached out for the alarm, and silenced it by tapping the knob on the top, as I tried to figure out what must have happened.Lifting the upper half of my body, I could feel a dull ache by the side of my cranium but it was so faint I needed to pay extra attention to it to have felt it. Figuring I was in my room didn't end the confusion that still clouded my judgment. "Who brou
Katie's POVAnyone could have missed the iciness in Joanna's eyes due to the smile plastered on her lips, but definitely not me. I have always been weary of her right from the very moment I stepped foot into this house, so there was no way she could fool me with that smile of hers, pretending to be a sheep, while her true fur was that of a bloody wolf. There was no driver out front to take me to school, and I've never been happier. I was able to find the bus stop after walking for a while. Less than a minute later the bus came into sight. I drew my beanie as low as I could so it covered some part of my forehead, then threw my hoodie over it. I just want a day filled with less drama. Waking up, getting yelled at, and almost getting slapped across the face for something I had no idea of already threw me off course for the day. I just needed to keep a low profile after that.Arriving at school, I tried my best to avoid Jessica and her friends, Ryan included by all means, but that wa
Katie's POV"Mate!" Lucy screamed in my head, and the most intoxicating scent wafted into my nostrils. It smelt like the warmest cream and milk mixed to perfection and a tear of spice. It was perfect and I swear if I wasn't feeling extra self aware today, I wouldn't have been able to stop Mystery from wrapping my arms around him and inhaling more of his scent.I took a small whiff of him again as time slowed down giving me the privilege of taking another breath of him. I could keep going on and on about how I really wanted to not make this as weird as possible but I was crippled and my curiosity had the front seat.He wasn't making it easy for me either. The strength in his gaze and his full glance are the things I now realize were crippling me. It felt like the first time I was having an encounter with another person. His face ticked—that’s how much attention I was paying because I needed to see where this ended. And it was over. The rest of my body spilled into the hallway and I wen
Killian's POV “I actually like her.”I blurted out. The car went silent, only the sound of a live engine and the dull voice of the radio presenter filling the air. The rest of it was pure silence and awkwardness.“Fuck…” I said out loud. Not to the fact I just confessed my feelings for Katie but because It felt good. It felt good to admit it out loud for once that I found every moment with her thrilling.“I don't think you know this but you weren't exactly subtle about it on the trip, you know that, right?” Stephen asked, looking at me through the front mirror. The same mirror I used to flip him my middle finger.“Well you try having a mate you are destined to be with where you can't control how you feel, what you feel and when you feel it. And when your other comes as close as ten inches from you, you can smell their soul. It's that deep.” I said defensively. I hated how it seemed as if I lacked self control when that was like my greatest fort.“Killian, are you saying Katie is you
Katie's POV I exited the room since that wasn't where my bag and toiletries were. My face was flushed and the memory I had closed the door on, burned alive in my head. I wouldn't stop playing. The moist feeling between my legs told me what to do to make it all feel better. I almost pressed down on the door handle out of a last minute decision, only to decide against it. Self control, self control, self control… I reminded myself as I walked into the next door. Jessica looked better. Her skin wasn't as pale and she was in another hoodie and sweatpant. The only difference between what I wore usually and what she was wearing now was that she had sweatpants on. I gave her a weird look through the mirror as she took care of her hair while she just stared back awkwardly.I was ready to give her some hate till I remembered that she had gone through an operation just the previous day.“This is probably a good time to ask how you are feeling?” I broke the silence. “Less pregnant and in pai
Katie's POV How did we get here…Killian was asleep beside me on the bed and the time was reading 4:03 PM. Honestly, I had thought I would sleep longer considering how much of it I knew I needed. I turned to look at him again, his thicc carved eyebrows were more relaxed now, his face appeared more calm without those stress lines popping out. His lips were parted but not too wide enough to slip a finger pass. I thought I had the whole thing figured out.I had decided that I was going to continue whatever game this was—generally, he has been super nice to me. And In return, I was also going to be super nice back to him. I wasn't going to put as much energy he was putting in, I would only mirror back whatever he gave to me because I wasn't still sure why he picked so much interest in my life even before we knew we were mates. This morning changed everything I knew and felt towards him—In a good way also.I never thought I would need to say it out loud but I think I have unconsciously f
Killian's POV“You guys think I joined this willingly?!” Esther cried. Katie stared down at her with disgust before bending down to her eye level.“Ma’am, asides the fact I do not give any fuck about what you think…I also plan on finding out myself every single detail from you even if it takes my last breath.” Katie said with so much hate that left me appalled. If I didn't know better, I would say she sounded just like me. It was exactly something I knew I could say.I felt Melissa's harsh gaze on my side profile but I refused to look her back in the eye. There was no way I was giving her the satisfaction of being right about not allowing Katie to get attached with the whole revenge scheme. This was until she came to my side by the window.“Are you seeing what I am saying or do you want her burning down the whole pack before you believe me when I say you cannot let her anger supercede her. You think I didn't know what I was talking about?! Look back, look at her!!” She forced me to t
Ryan's POV “Ryan…he was the only one who wasn't healed and still managed to escape without getting killed by the poison…” Katie revealed.“And you just thought of telling me about it now?!” I heard Killian yell.Fuck…I have been caughtSlowly, I tried retracing my steps back up the stairs. I barely stepped on the last one when I heard my name being called.“Hello Ryan…didn't know you fancied snooping around, I would have also had you tied down.” The look in Killian's eyes was far from friendly. I didn't even make it back behind the door of the room I was sleeping in when he swept me off my feet.“Got you.”~~~~Katie's POV I could tell I needed a good sleep when I saw Killian dragging Ryan by the collar down the stairs like a thief. My body didn't react, my mouth wasn't agape nor did I feel any emotion. I was completely numb. I think using my ability came at a cost. I felt numb on the inside like I was a plain white sheet floating across the river to Florida. The way I made sense
Katie's POV And she did just that. Her groaned out so loud, my attention immediately went to Jessica and Melissa who stood by the corridor watching the ordeal take place.“Are you ready to answer the question?”She nodded her head eagerly. Her face contorted to show how much pain she was in and it only made me smile. Images of myself sleeping off in the waiting room two months ago as I waited and pleaded for a meeting with her but was instead awarded with some petty excuse from her secretary. I refused to feel bad for what I did to her.“So answer it.” She struggled to sit right since her hands were tied behind her. There was not much space or freedom to move with Killian behind her and myself in front of her. “Your mother…Hannah. She was the best in everything. I was second best. No matter what I did, she was just…better. I didn't know how she got away with barely surviving on her little finances and still managing to Ace all the classes. She quickly became the professor’s pet. I
Killian's POV “HELP!!!”She screamed so loud my ears felt the need to bleed. I had the heavy urge to punch her to sleep again but that in itself wasn't time effective which meant I needed to design another device to make her shut up.“You didn't have to scream so loud like you are that innocent.” I continued to drag her towards the center of the living area. The look on their faces, especially that on Melissa. She didn't look like she was happy to be seated in our midst. I rolled the roller chair out and placed it in the center, putting her before it and sitting on the chair.“You don't need to cry now. Damage has been done.” I said while trying to catch my breath. Pulling her body across the room with my strength at its reserve phase, proved to definitely be a lot more difficult a job than I thought it would be.“You pulled me by the fucking hair, down a polished wooden floor. Do the math why my skull hurts and I need to cry!” She screamed at me. Her voice cracked like that of the i
Melissa's POV“So…how long has it been—” I checked my time, “ten minutes…wow.” We have been sitting around for the last ten minutes waiting for the both of them to return since they went to make sure that Katie’s abilities worked. I could see that it was going to take more than just some finding out when the time started running past 5 AM.“I didn't want to seem like I was bringing the impatient one but thank God someone said something. How long does it exactly take to ask a question?” Shedrack asked, standing up on his feet and going to turn on the TV that had been turned off since I arrived here.“Guys just give them some time. I am sure they have other things to sort out asides Just knowing if her powers worked alright.” Stephen muttered over his laptop screen that was seated between his legs.“There has been a functioning TV all this while and no one thought to turn it on?” I asked, looking at the smart TV displaying Netflix.“Because no one asked. And besides we were all busy tr
Killain's POV “Okay…just one more time.” She agreed. I could hear her heart beating like a fair maiden soft drum, but the intervals were so short, it made me worried why. I took a brave step forward. Yes, that's what it was, a brave step. No one was so confident in someone else with this kind of ability but there was a huge part of me that trusted her. Cade trusted her and that just happened to push me into whatever madness this may turn out to be. I cleared my throat and it happened to get her attention as she raised her eyes to mine. She blinked, going down to look at my hand and then my eyes again. I see her swallow hard. “You can ask any question, as deep as you want. Nothing is off book. Just don't ask me to kill myself because I would find a way to kill you instead.” “Killian!” Cade yells at me but I ignore him. It was something that wouldn't leave my head. I just felt the need to say it out just to put it out there. “I figured…” She chuckled nervously. See?! You made t
