Years later….
The dimly hushed sound of the bar was getting more deafening when it was past midnight. Vida tried to find an untouched place in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the atmosphere and she managed to find a place in the corner, near the area leading to the toilet which was a little dark and quiet. Her eyes glanced at the dance floor which was so crowded and full of people moving their bodies to the beat, carried away by the atmosphere.
Really, it wasn't her desire to be here. However, what can she do? She needs money. They all need money.
Her parents used to be rich, but due to the actions of her mother's twin named Kina, everything fell apart. Her parents' household, Angel and David, became disorganized because of Kina's cunning interference. Vida had never met the figure of Kina, but she really hoped to never meet her. She was angry at what she had done, but she didn't want to rekindle the flames of revenge either.
Vida got home at three in the morning. Luckily the bar owner was kind enough to provide a vehicle for his bar maid girls, otherwise Vida might have to wait for the sun to rise until she can find public transportation back home. After all, she needed to go to sleep soon. At six in the morning she had to get up, prepare breakfast and lunch for her father, then go to work. Her unemployed father must have been fast asleep when she left for work, but at least she had left him some food. She was so tired and lacked sleep. Vida's mind was heavy thinking about tomorrow. All day at the office, coming home at five in the afternoon, then immediately getting dressed to go to work again as a bar maid. Really, her days feel so tough, but she must be strong. Her father couldn't even support himself, so Vida was completely alone in this world and had to fend for herself. Her eyes suddenly glanced at her handbag. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she opened the bag, took out
Vida widened her eyes in confusion as the blue-eyed man dragged her through the passageway from the toilet to the back door of the bar. There was no one there and no one to turn to for help. Usually there are bodyguards guarding the back of the bar, but because tonight the bar was quite busy with visitors, all the bodygyards were on duty at the front. In the end Vida could only give up, letting the man half drag her with wide strides. However, when at last the man's steps stopped, Vida immediately jerked her hand and freed herself from the man. The man let her off easily, but still stood in front of her as if to prevent her from running.Vida suddenly felt scared. What if this man was mean to her, trying to rape her? It was quiet here and the screams would surely be overpowered by the loud banging music up ahead. Her terrified expression must have been readable as a cold smile instantly appeared on the blue eyed man's lips."Don't dream too far. I won't t
"Oh, then I'm sorry." Vida immediately realized that the man in front of her was not the man she was supposed to meet. She must find Mr. Arga who is now somewhere. "Looks like I entered the wrong room."Vida nervously stood up from her seat, then half bowed politely towards Liam. She hastily turned around to walk away from the room."You didn't enter the wrong room, Vida, you really should have come here. I told Mr. Arga to leave earlier."Liam's words made Vida's steps near the door stop. She then turned around and looked at him in confusion. "You told Mr. Arga to leave? So my transfer has something to do with you?"Liam smiled sweetly. "Your transfer is only used as a tool so I can meet you without causing gossip. Even your current superiors in administration don't know anything about this. I put you under the supervision of Mr. Arga because he is one of the people I trust in this company."Liam gestured with his hand. "Come, si
Vida opened the door to her house and immediately asked, "What does the Wijaya family have to do with me?" she was still staring warily at the man dressed as a chauffeur. The man looked confused what to answer. He then took out a photo and a letter envelope of beautiful golden paper."I don't know, miss. Mr. Roy Wijaya told me to give this to you. He said, after you see this, you will definitely want to come with me to the Wijaya family's residence," he answered as he handed the envelope and photo sheet into Vida's hand. She received the photo and envelope of the letter. She turned over the photo that had yellowed with age and then frowned when she saw it. The woman in this photo is similar to her mother, but certainly not her mother because given the age of the photo, her mother could not have reached this age several decades ago. Then… this was her grandmother in youth, Vida immediately concluded. People used to always say that her mother was ver
Two fiancées at once?Who would want to have two fiancées in this world? Vida never imagined she would get one fiancé out of nowhere, let alone two.Vida looked at the faces all over the room and was confused. All eyes were on her and she seemed to be pressed for a choice, not to mention Reeves' blue eyes were staring at her with an implied threat.Reeves must have been trying to remind Vida that she had to return the favor to him because he had put so much money in her account. However, Vida also remembered Liam's words, that she had to be fair to him, that he deserved to be given the opportunity to compete fairly.Vida's face grew pale, confused. If she chooses, doesn't that mean she's voting for her future? She must marry the man of her choice, right? Was there no chance for Vida to refuse this engagement? She can't just accept this matchmaking, can she? Vida has the right to determine her own future husband, r
The next morning Vida left the room still scared. The house was quiet as usual. She then stepped outside and saw her father still sleeping on the sofa, snoring loudly. She took a deep breath, then immediately headed for the kitchen and prepared breakfast. It was still half past six in the morning. Vida looked at the rice cooker and found that there was still a lot of leftover rice from last night. Her father might decide to eat instant noodles so the rice is not touched. What a coincidence. With that Vida would be able to make fried rice for breakfast. Today is Sunday, so she doesn't need to rush to get ready to go to work.A few minutes later, the smell of fragrant fried rice filled the tiny house, waking her father. The middle-aged man stepped, still half asleep towards the kitchen."You're up so early," her father greeted hoarsely, smiling as he sat down at the kitchen table.Vida observed her father and was grateful that it seemed the alcohol ef
The car that picked up Vida arrived in front of the Wijaya family's mansion along with Reeves' sports car which stopped at the same place. From behind the backseat of her car, Vida saw Reeves get out from behind the wheel. The man nodded to the servant who quickly came and lifted his things from the car. Suddenly he turned sharply at the car, stared out the back window, as if he knew Vida was still sitting there watching him. After that, Reeves stepped closer to the car, making Vida gulp. Without permission the man opened the back door of the car and lowered his head, looking at her who was still sitting nervously in there with his blue eyes."Why don't you get out?"Reeves' eyes were very sharp, making her a little scared. Once again she swallowed her saliva and then answered in a weak voice, "I was just about to get out."Of course she didn't say that she had deliberately stayed out and waited for Reeves to come in, because she was afraid she'd ha
As Vida had expected, the dinner was awkward. Roy Wijaya was the only one who seemed to be chattering, asking everything about Vida, from her childhood story until she grew up. Meanwhile Reeves and Liam, who were once again somehow on purpose, were arranged to sit to her right and left, just enjoying their meal in silence."Your grandmother, Diana, used to love this food." Roy Wijaya looked reminiscing, staring at the lobster soup in front of him. "There is a Dutch restaurant at the end of town, the only one that provides this menu. Your grandmother and I used to steal time to eat there."Vida watched Roy Wijaya and was saddened to see how much this man seemed to still love her grandmother. Maybe his love for her grandmother was so deep, that almost tens of years had passed and that love still maintained. If only Vida could experience that kind of love.Unfortunately now she is stuck in marriage between two choices, two men who don't seem to love he
