Jarren's POV

“Usted es el niña del sol. Brilla intensamente maravillosamente dentro de usted.” (You are the girl of the sun. It shines intensely and wonderfully within you.) The jewelry woman told Jillie.

I looked on as she smiled. She had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. I could have told her, but I was still trying to calm myself down from Carson. He's pushing all the wrong buttons. I absent-mindedly watched as Jillie continued to look around the small tent. I saw her pick up another bracelet. It looked like it matched the one on her arm. The only difference was this one had more silver than gold in it. She walked up to the woman.

"I'd like these." the woman looked at her confused, and Jillie looked a little frustrated.

I laughed. “Quisiéramos comprar éstos.” (We'd like to buy these.)

Jillie whipped her head around and looked at me. "You speak Spanish?"

"Yes."

"Well, that would have helped earlier

Unknown POV I watched as she slept soundly. She was beautiful. I watched the easy rise and fall of her chest. Her breathing was quiet. I wonder what she's dreaming about. How I hoped it was me, but I knew better. I knew she was dreaming of him. That bloodsucking leech. He didn't deserve her. She was too good for him. She needed someone better than him. She needed me. I deserved her. She stirred silently, and I held my breath. When she settled back down, I released a silent stream of air. I watched her intently while she slept. Taking in her every feature. Locking it into memory. Not that I needed to. I knew h

Jarren's POV "I think I should go and start getting my things together as well. See you guys later." Becka called before walking out of the door as well, Nic close behind her. I sat on my bed in silence, the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. It wasn't the silence that was making me uncomfortable. It was something else entirely. What it was exactly, I didn't know. I couldn't put my finger on it."So, Aaden, why were you so interested in knowing how Nic's activities with Mallory went?" Mason asked, putting air quotes around activities."I just wanted to know if she was as giving with him as she was with me."My gaze landed on Aaden. "Seriously, dude. What kind of friend are you?""I'm a great friend.""Throwing Mal's business out there like that isn't being such a great friend," Mason informedhim."Yea, well, oh well." If I

  • Bitten   17: Special

Jillie's POV I watched him walk away toward the water. I called after him, but he didn't even as much as look back. I looked down at the guy on the ground, and he was shaking. I didn't blame him. I was shaking to. What was up with Jarren's eyes? They'd looked almost black. I shook my head as I began to walk slowly toward the water. I continued to walk into it until my feet could no longer touch the bottom, and I swam out a little way."Jarren!" I didn't see him anywhere, but I was positive this was where he came in at. "Jarren!" I turned around when I heard water moving behind me. I came face to face with Jarren. I jumped a little. "You scared me.""

  • Bitten   18: Home Again

Jillie's POV I couldn't wait to get off this plane and home. The trip was fantastic. I loved going to the beach and the botanical gardens. That was my favorite part of the entire trip. I lay back in my chair. We'd been in the air for about almost seven hours. Another hour and I'd be home and in my own bed. I missed my parents."What are you thinking about?"I turned to look at Jarren. "Being home.""Someone was homesick."I laughed. "Just a little." He grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it lightly. I felt a shiver run

  • Bitten   19: Cursed Life

Jarren's POV I pulled back instantly, fangs immediately retracting. What had I done? I got off of her and walked over to the window, opening it just a bit. I needed some fresh air. I needed to air her scent and the smell of her blood out of the room. I turned back to look at her, and she was holding three fingers to her neck. I could have died if it were possible when I saw the blood on her fingers when she pulled them back. She got off the bed and walked into the bathroom, closing the door. How the hell could I have been so stupid? I got so caught up that I let my guard slip down too far. I'd put her in danger. It was already a battle controlling myself around her when she looked at me. I shouldn't have let my guard down

Jillie's POV"Jilliannah." I jumped so hard it felt like I'd pulled something. I looked behind me, and Nunny was sitting under a gazebo. She motioned for me to come over. I walked slowly toward her. I sat on the bench beside her."What's the matter, dear?" Once again, I felt compelled to tell her, but what exactly was I supposed to say? Tell her that the guy I was in love with was a vampire, and I didn't know. Tell her that even though he wasn't human, I couldn't make myself stop thinking about him. How would I say something like that? She'd think I was crazy.

  • Bitten   21: Still At Odds

Jarren’s POV It’s been an entire two weeks since I talked to Jillie. She was avoiding me. She didn’t sit beside me in classes, and she’d find some excuse to tell the others why she wasn’t in the cafeteria for lunch. It was driving me up the wall. I didn’t know what to say to people when they asked what was going on with her. I didn’t know what to say when people asked if we were still together. I knew the answer, but saying it out loud would finalize it, and I couldn’t deal with that. I made my way to Drama and took a seat at our table. This was the one class that Jillie sat remotely close to me in. I too

I turned off the shower and wrapped a towel around myself. I dried off and slipped on my yellow panties and bra before putting the towel in the hamper and walking out of the bathroom. I stopped in my tracks when I saw Jarren sitting on the window seat. I paused for a moment before opening my top drawer. I pulled out some shorts and a tank top and slipped them on quickly. He didn’t say anything. I walked over and sat on my bed slowly. It was silent for what felt like hours.“What do you want?” I finally asked softly.“To talk to you.” He stood up and took something out of his pocket. He took a step toward me, held out the little bottle, and gave it to me. “Just hear me out. If you think that I’ll hurt you, just use this.” &nb

  • Bitten   104: Bitten By Love

Jillie’s POV I took a deep breath. My hands were both shaking. I’d been avoiding this for two weeks now. It was too painful. I knelt in front of the headstone. Running my fingers over the engraved words, tears slowly ran down my cheeks. “Hey, Mal,” I stated through my tears. “I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. I just couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing this happened because of me.” I stated quietly. “But the guilt I felt for leaving your funeral early and trying to stay away outweighed that.” I took another deep breath. “This sucks, Mal. This really is unfair. We were supposed to make up, and everything was supposed to get better between us. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. Me sitting here crying my eyes out and talking to your headstone.” I paused for a minute. “We were supposed to do so much together. Go to college, get married, and have kids. Oh, speaking of kids, Alyx is pregnant. I know she wasn’t your favorite person, but I also know how much you like kids.”

Jarren’s POV“We’ll take them outside and burn them,” I stated, looking at all the bodies around us. I then looked around the room for Jillie. “Where did Jillie go?” I asked, panicking.“She and Kaileeh headed that way. I think there’s a door over there.” Garret stated.“Who screamed earlier?” I asked. I’d been so occupied that I hadn’t stopped to see who it was. I just knew it wasn’t Jillie. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on Mallory on the floor in a pool of blood. I then saw Mina on the floor as well. I shook my head. She was the only vampire I knew that could be easily

Jillie’s POV I watched as they were all secured to a wall with what looked like metal shackling. I was held in place by one of his many goons. I surveyed the room and counted thirteen of them. Even if the three weren’t bound, they’d still be highly outnumbered.“Malinda,” Nyx stated, drawing my attention.“I already told you I don’t know who Malinda is,” I stated calmly.“You’re in denial, my dear. You’ll remember soon enough.” Oh wow. He really was insane. Not just the crazy I’m going to kill you all insane, but t

I glared at Xander before finally letting him go. I made my way over to the sitting area in the library.“Well, what did she see?”“She said she saw people, but they were more like shadows.”“Shado

Jillie’s POV I sat up as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Kaileeh came into view a moment later.“Hey. Where are you headed, all dressed up?”“Garret just called and said he had a surprise for me, so I’m going to meet him. I was wondering if I could borrow your car.”“Sure. The keys are on the ring by the door.”“Thanks, Jillie. I’ll be back in a few hours.”“Be careful. It’ll be dark soon.”She nodded. “Bye.”

  • Bitten   99: I'd Never do That

Jarren’s POV I watched as she tossed and turned. There was absolutely nothing I could do for her. Reid had already given her a sedative, but it wasn’t working. What was happening to her? I heard her say my name a few times, but that was it. At first, I couldn’t make out the rest of what she was saying.“Jarren, stop it!” She screamed. I looked at everyone in the room, confused.“Stop what, Piccolo?” I asked, moving closer to the bed. I let out a hiss as pain ripped through my right side. What the hell was that? I lift my shirt slowly to see a wound. It looked like fire hit me. I could feel all eyes in th

  • Bitten   97: Bite Me

Jarren's POVMaking my way through the trees, I ran nowhere in particular. Just trying to run my frustration out. I’d been moving for hours, running to the next city over and beyond before returning. I was still a bit agitated. I continued to run until I was outside Jillie’s house. It was after two in the morning. I knew she was sleeping, but I couldn’t stop myself from waking her. I pulled out my phone and hit her speed dial button. It rang five times before going to voicemail. I hung up and called again. This time she answered on the fourth ring.“Hello,” she answered groggily.“Come outside.”“Okay.” I could hear her moving around. “Give me a minute,” she stated before hanging up. I slipped my phone back into my pocket. I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the house. I couldn’t go inside for what I

  • Bitten   96: Reincarnation

Unknown POV It was all coming together now. Everything I’d worked so hard for the last hundred and fifty-plus years was coming true. It took me a while to get to this point, but the reward at the end would be well worth it. Rising from my seat, I made my way to the window. Looking out, I was met by the vast expanse of trees. Secluded and, at the same time, visible.“Brother.”“Have a seat. I have something I want you to do for me, sister.”“I’m listening.”“There’s a full moon Friday night. This is what I need you to do….”
