Lorenzo's POV
“Take them all away” I pointed at the apparatus that had been used by the media team. With hands placed akimbo, I took large strides toward the window, staring at the booming city, the very one I had built, and I ruled over, before running a hand through my hair as what the old man had said hit me again."Come with your fiancée today, Lorenzo, or I will hand over the company to Jaden'' I pulled at my tie angrily, before yanking it to a side, as the word he had said resonated.I didn't know how at age twenty-seven, I was being considered old, I had earned the respect of all, both young and old and everyone feared me except one person. The young lady who had slammed me with a hundred dollar bill, even when I had given her more than that.Somehow, she had impressed me with her actions. I had done what I wasn't supposed to do, have sex with a random stranger unprotected at that, but it had happened in my moment of weakness.I had seen her, Trisha, my first love, and yet again, she had told me to my face how undesirable I was to her, making me want to get stronger, and I had let her words get to me. Yet again.“F**k” I grunted out, sweeping all the items off the table, as her words came back, hitting me as hard as a running train would.“Grrrrrr” I flipped my head at the office phone which has been ringing nonstop for a while now, grunting slowly, I took steps toward it, before placing it on my ear.“Lorenzo” a sharp, feminine voice shrieked from the other side of the phone and I exhaled deeply, running my fingers gently on my temple. “Speak, Helena” I should have known that she was the only one who would be calling me at such a busy hour when she knew that I was supposed to be working my ass off just so we wouldn't climb off the top of the food chain.Because if we do, all of our enemies would come crawling in, demanding my head as payment for all I had done to them. “You were looking so handsome, Lorenzo” I puffed out my lips, letting out a whiff of air." Cut to the chase Helena, or I am cutting in three seconds, I,2…” I started counting.“ You don't have to be that shrewd to me, Lorenzo, anyway when are you coming over? Father has been stomping his staff on the ground waiting for you ever since you ended your press conference"I gazed at the wall clock before slamming the telephone back on its hold. I should have known that the old man had put her up to this. I picked up my blazer which I had left hanging on the coat hanger before attempting to walk out of the office when my secretary yanked the door open with a huge bulgy file in her hand.I raised a brow at her, curious as to what was in those, my eyes wandered to the wall clock which indicated that I was late already but who cares? I didn't have a fiancée nor have I seen anyone yet who would stand in for her.“Yes…?” I gazed at my secretary, waiting for her to speak. She swallowed before staring at me, “These files came in not too long ago when you were having the press conference and I had to bring them in”“Fine” I stretched out my hands on the table at her.“Drop them there, I will attend to them tomorrow” I tried walking past her when I felt a hand around my wrist, sparks went off in my head as I tried to wrap my head around what was happening.“What do you think you are doing?” I asked irritatedly, before she pulled her hands away as though she had been scalded by something hot.“I am sorry, Sir” she apologized, her head bowed to the ground, in such a way that her cleavage was in front of me, and it disgusted me, I knew that I needed to chase her away soon.“It had a note of emergency on it and…”“Get out…!” I was trying as hard as I could to keep my cool, what nerves does she possess that she has to act unruly?I watched as she scrambled away, shutting the door behind her, before I threw my blazer to the side.Somehow I couldn't stop myself from searching for what was inside those files, what exactly had been placed in there?I placed a finger on top of the documents, my touch lingering on it for a while before flipping it open, and my heart flipped.I picked up the pictures that had fallen to the ground, gritting my teeth angrily, how could I have been careless?I slumped on the couch beside me, squeezing the picture angrily, everything was pissing me off lately, and now this, somehow, everything finally made sense“ Hahaha" I chuckled softly as that bitter sensation I felt lingered, penetrating all of my senses.“So she was a spy? One that has been planted just so that I could lower my guard?”I placed my index finger on my forehead, massaging it gently, it was beginning to ache suddenly, and I could tell that it would worsen soon.Standing up abruptly, I yanked the phone from the holder,“ Come up Jack” I spoke into the phone before slamming it back on its hold. I tapped my feet on the ground while waiting for Jack to step in.The door was flung open, and my shadow guard stepped in, looking Stoic.“Here” I shoved the picture I had received into his hands. He ran his gaze on it for a while before looking at me,“Boss…what do I do? Do I need to protect her or…”I shook my head at him,“ All I need you to do is to get her for me, I want her here, kicking and screaming because I need her to spill why exactly she had accepted to do so”Lorenzo's POVWhen the car drove into the familiar estate, I dragged in a deep breath because eventually, I had to do this, and it was better that I got it over with. “ Lorenzo” Helena scurried out, her heels clacking as she raced down to me, hooking her arms around mine as we counted the steps down to the huge sitting room, where I knew my father was going to be at. “ I thought you weren't coming, you made father mad you know, although the interview went well, he is ranting about how you should give him a grandchild pretty soon” “ What about you?” I threw my head at you. “What happened to getting his favorite and only daughter to get him one?” I knew the answer to that already, Drago would do everything to keep Helena by his side. He loved her because she was a replica of our mother and since the moment our mother died, he made sure he spoiled her to the tilt, giving her whatever it was she wanted. Only the best for my angel, he would say. While I went through rigorous trainin
Daphne's POV“Oh, please stop it” Irene waved her hands at me as she shoved the necessary items I was going to need into a bag. “There is no way Lorenzo would know you are the one. It has been three years already, and besides, whoever you are going to work for is entirely different from him”. I let out a whiff of air, hoping that it was going to be just fine. In three years, I had done so well for myself. From starting a little business which I had never expected to blossom to sitting over a lot more which ran into millions. With lips pouted, I threw a salted gaze over my head at Irene. “Don't tell me that you are thinking of dropping this job?” Her eyes dimmed at me. I could tell that she was thinking of various ways to send me out right away if I was. Force me there, if it had to get to that. “Nope, I am not. I am not going to miss it for anything in the world” It was one of the biggest events that I was going to host in years and if I let this spiral out of my hands, I was going
Daphne's POV My guts twisted as I chugged yet another glass of wine, not caring an ooze if it would end up being an alcoholic one. Hopefully, it will be a non-alcoholic one. With eyes fixated on the raised platform, I watched the man who had sworn a while ago that he was going to get me back, act all chummy and sweet with his fiancée and my eyes rolled inwardly out of disgust. What exactly did he think of me? Someone who he could talk to and was going to consent at once? Lorenzo had been adamant, had pinned me to the wall, while his hands ran by my side as he pledged his unending love to me and I wondered if indeed he was the same person standing there. Our eyes met, and a bump formed before I threw my gaze to the side even when I knew that his had never left mine. The heated gaze gave it away. Scorching endlessly on my back. “Hi” someone uttered as they stood beside me. I twirled around, my eyes meeting a bulky man. “ Here” he gently placed a card on my palm. “ You must be the
Lorenzo's POV The door was shoved open, revealing a plain faced Jack. He always had that look on his face. I could attest to the fact that he had a dozen thoughts flipping through his mind, but he had gotten so good with it. Putting over a plain face like it was nothing. “So what is the update?” I looked up from the iPad I had been scrabbling on, waiting for a response. “Done boss” my eyes went to the paper he had shoved at me. “Like you said, she was making plans to run away with Irene and the kids” My hands stiffened around the papers. My kids. They were ours. Kids I didn't want but now, I knew they were going to be one of my weaknesses if not the greatest. “ Any pictures?” He nodded before sliding it over and I blinked. A girl and a boy. The girl was my replica. I didn't need DNA to tell me whether she was my kid or not, but the boy looked just like her, although I could see that he was going to take all of my inert attitude. His eyes contained so much darkness than I could f
Daphne's POV Tears pricked my eyes as I tried to fathom when last anyone made me feel this way. Being relegated to the edge had always been a thing for me, and I was already getting used to it until this. Trisha huffed, her chest squared as they rose slowly, eyes drilled daggers at me. I scurried to Lorenzo's broad back, which gave me enough coverage from her deceitful eyes. “You didn't mean that, right?” Trisha’s fist clenched into a ball as she demanded an answer from Lorenzo. “I have never been so serious about anything else before. Trisha” his voice lacked empathy. My heart swelled at the thought that I was different to him, but all the thought came crashing when I thought about this. I wasn't any different from Trisha. To him, I was just a possession he wanted to have. Who knew when he would get tired of me and trash me away? “ I will leave now” I weaved through the tense atmosphere, stalking out, not minding the ugly gaze that trailed me. Letting out a breath of air, I fe
Daphne's POV My palm got sweaty as I beamed excitedly, yet another massive deal that I had never expected. When Mrs. Smith had placed a call through, I had thought it was all a joke until I stepped in here and found her seated right now, her face emitting just enough glow to draw in anyone to her. “Oh yes, Mrs. Smith” I gave her a gentle smile as I listened to her chat on about how exactly she wanted her party to look while scrabbling on the iPad I clenched onto. Running a swift glance once more with her making the necessary corrections, I gave her a gentle smile before accepting her outstretched hand. “I will have my secretary wire the money over immediately I am out of here, I can't wait to watch you do your magic” her words dipped into me as I watched her walk away. Throwing a punch in the air, I let out a yes, trying so hard to keep my balance as she drove away. She was everything I needed to get into the upper echelon. Once I handled her party, I would get more. It wasn'
Daphne's POV “What are you going to do?” Irene threw the question at me as though I had a choice. I was left with just one, which was to go back to them.“ Do you think he would have gotten to know where exactly they were without the kids saying a word… I know…” it was almost impossible that they had, they had no idea who exactly their father was. Guilt laced at me as the possibility that I was going to leave her behind filled every part of my being. My eyes swelled with tiny tendrils of tears as I interlocked my hands with Irene's.“ I don't want to leave you behind. I don't want to”.A life without her was going to be a dazed one, one that wouldn't have any meaning. She had been by my side for years, and that wasn't going to change. Not now. She tried to flicker off the tears in her eyes, but it seemed she wasn't doing enough. “ Gosh, I didn't want to tear up, but I just can't help it. Daphne…” her eyes lingered up at the white ceiling for quite some time. Every little fiber in
Daphne's POV His words, they weren't supposed to settle in me the way they had, they weren't supposed to ruffle the feathers I felt the way they had just done, but I just couldn't help it. With misty eyes, I decided to take a glance at him and when he mustered the words. “ I love you” all of my charade shattered into tiny pieces. “ Okay” Irene gulped in “ Also, you can come along and live with them. I wouldn't be living with them for some time so you should come alongside them” My eyes flickered with warmth, he knew exactly what he was supposed to do, and he was doing just that. He wasn't mincing his words and he was letting me know the length he was ready to go just because of me. Just because he wanted me with him. “ I can't really say” “ Please” I squeezed her hands. “ Come alongside and stay with us” Irene stood, contemplating for a while before she nodded“ Great. Our kids are waiting at home, you can go back and pack whatever belongings you want, although I can assure you
Lorenzo's POV “ She wouldn't like this,” Don Dawson said to me as I offered him the drink I had managed to win at an auction. “ I know right? Daphne would hate it if she knows that I am here with you, but it doesn't seem like I have a choice here” He shook his head to the side, snapping them gently before he uncorked the wine, the pop going off as I glanced at it, he poured a bit into a glass which he handed to me, and another which he kept for himself. “ She actually told me to settle things with you, smooth things out, she had said,” he gave the only reason which I could say made sense. That she had an idea about what exactly was happening, because if she hadn't found me in bed with her, I knew she would have blown up my phone with calls right about now, and I was loving it. It showed that I was loved just as much as I loved her, with how she didn't hide at all to show that. I bobbed my head, gulping down the drink in a go when it hit the back of my throat, I swallowed, letti
Lorenzo's POVWhen she had asked, wanting to make sure that I was fine, I didn't know what else to say aside from the fact that I was fine.I didn't want her to worry, I didn't want the crest on her face to deepen, I hated to see her worry, so I just couldn't bring myself to give her an answer that would break her again. When we had walked into the decorator greenhouse, the makeshift one that I had ordered to be made before all the ruckus happened, I found myself saying the word that I hadn't even practiced for. I had thought about this moment for years, kept it in mind for hours, thought about her expression when she saw it, but none of them had prepared me for when I was there, kneeling before her. I found myself stuttering, the words I didn't plan came out of my mouth instead, was I perhaps tense? I probably was, but it helped me get away of the thoughts that my father was dead. The doctor had given a heart attack as the answer, and we hadn't pushed on, neither had the workers
Daphne's POV My hands held Alexis, as my hands went on his back, smoothening it gently, Lorenzo was still, not saying a word, but I knew he had a lot in mind. My hand held his hands, squeezing it gently, as I tried to get him back to me when he gave a small smile at me, his eyes deepened as he stared at me. “ I am fine” he assured me, that I wondered if he knew if he had any idea that his face was a sharp contrast to what he had just said. “ It is fine to let the tears down if you want to” His lips curved into a small smile, which did little to help, before he glanced outside. “ Chad will be waiting for us, we have to be sure that everything is fine, and whatever is it wouldn't harm him, you know with everything that has been happening” I nodded, bobbed my head in understanding at what he had just said. It was going to be fine. “ Wouldn't you go back? To take him to the morgue?” He bobbed. “ I will have to do that tomorrow, I would prefer that we bury him tomorrow, but first
Daphne's POV I racked my brain, trying to ascertain that it wasn't who I was thinking, he wouldn't have been so stupid, he wouldn't do something like that. “ Daphne…. Daphne..” Irene's voice pulled me out. I threw her a glance, when footsteps glided in, and my father rushed in, rage stomped over his face. “ You said something about Alexis missing, have you seen him? Where exactly would he be? Do you think it would be from my side or Lorenzo's?” He tried to make certain that we would curtail this problem. I knew there was just a person, one person in Brooklyn but this wasn't how I wanted it to end, I didn't want to give him an easy death, he didn't deserve that. I needed Drago to be in pain, I needed him to pray for death, but he wouldn't see, I wanted him to watch my face as he died, I wanted to see his car slide down the bridge as mine had done. What exactly had been my offense? His son loved me.“ Drago” I uttered, loud enough to his hearing. “ He is the one who has him” Hi
Lorenzo's POV I traipsed into the lift a happier man that I thought I was going to be, I watched gently as she sat on the chair, holding the kids firmly, before dropping the bags on the table. I couldn't have been happier, she was back in my life and back to me. I didn't know if I was thinking too fast, but I found myself inching to give her the ring I had gone to customize before the accident happened. I hadn't forgotten, nor forgiven Drago but I didn't want to think about him, not with this new joy that I felt. “ Do you think that I should apply it in, now?” “ Mother, I will help you with it,” Avery offered. “ I will do so also” Alexis offered also, and I was relegated to the background. It had barely grazed her arms, so Chad had said, but we had to be careful. It was so close to her arm socket, that if the bullet had gone in even further, it might have caused her an arm. I didn't know what to say, but I kept taking in air, and found myself saying prayers also. Of course,
Daphne's POV I tried to force my eyes open but it stuck adamantly, I let out a hiss before trying again before whistling out in pain. I hated how I felt, it seemed as though I had been rammed over by a lorry and thrown over here, I tried to push myself up but I just couldn't. Sighing in resignation, I tried once more, gentle at first and the sharp ray of lighting that flashed through caused me to clasp it shot again. I gnashed, took in air before I flickered them open once more, this time swerving a glance around. I was stunned when warmths sipped into me. Flipping my head to the side, my eyes watered when I noticed Avery by one side, and Alexis by another, and Lorenzo holding my hands. I bit hard into my cheek, taking in the pain while I tried to force myself not to shed a tear. This was everything that I wanted, everything that I had imagined, my family back with me. I laid back, letting the warmth cascade down to my side, let it drap itself around me when I ran my hands thro
Lorenzo's POV Broken, I had never been this broken as I clung onto her, tears racing down my face while I glanced around, an empty shell. Hands held me, voices echoed around me, pleading for me to let go, but I just couldn't, I held her, squeezed my hands around her, pleading for her to come back to me. “ Lorenzo” Jack's voice thundered above me, as he shook my shoulders. I flipped my head around, barely considering his face before I stared at my hands. Coated with blood, my beloved blood, and I forced myself up. “ Where are you taking her?” Dawson's voice drilled into me, he forced himself forward, as he stretched his hands at me. “ You will get out of my front, or else, I will shoot you the fuck now” I warned, my eyes glazed with rage. “ Drop her down, she is mine and…” “ Father” a hand held his shoulder. “ Let him go with her. She will be safe with him” I didn't so much as spare him a glance as I sauntered through, my eyes darkened with rage before settling her on the seat.
Lorenzo's POV I knew that something was up, I knew there was something Daphne wasn't telling me, and although I had tried countless times not to think about it, I was so sure that it made sense now. I had felt her salty tears, the one that ran down my back countless times, and even when I thought that it was from the fact that she was enjoying it, my two senses told me that she wasn't okay somehow, but she wouldn't just say. I couldn't push her either, I was never going to do that, not when she was hiding the fact that she was Daphne so good that I didn't know what to say nor do. I had tried numerous ways that I knew about just to have her to talk, but we were tight lipped, still insisting that she was Talia and not Daphne. Now, with the card in my hands, I didn't know what to say. My heart was in shreds as I glanced at it, the names fading the more I glanced at it. I swallowed, in a world of my own, when I noticed a hand shook my shoulders. “ Get back here man, I have been call
Daphne's POV His lips slid into my mouth, making me miss all the times that we hadn't had time together. His teeth bit into my tongue, possessively, fiercely, while I fought for him to let go. My cunt pooled before he could slip a finger in, while I ached my back properly, giving him a proper view of my face. I held myself, my hands by my side as I forced myself not to run my hands on his face. I inched to do so, wanted to do so, found myself inching and aiming to do so, but I just couldn't. He pulled away gauging my expression. “ What?” I asked, his eyes softened as I stared into them. His hands drew pretty lines over my face, his love filled eyes pierced through me as he exhaled. “ You look so beautiful, so beautiful that I wouldn't mind gazing at you for the rest of my life, and I also wouldn't mind giving you my heart. I want you to own it all” My heart slammed at his words, as I drowned in them. They sounded perfect to me. I sniffed in, keeping my emotions at bay, befor
