The creature screamed in agony thrashing about in the blindingly white snow covering everything in the deep red of its blood. She watched it briefly as it struggled to crawl away from her but it was too weak and slumped to the ground in a pool of blood. The She-Wolf walked forward and nudged the creature with her nose making it scream in fear and pain. Her stomach rumbled and she snarled this was no time for her to be playing with the food she had not eaten in weeks, leaning forward she caught the strange creature by its neck and brought her jaws together sending the head tumbling across the bloodied snow. She lapped at the warm blood enjoying its sweet coppery taste as it went down her throat, she tore off the dead animal fur it had covered itself with and bit into the soft pink flesh looking for the tasty organs beneath. When her stomach was full she carefully bit off the remaining limbs and buried them near a tree far away from where she had made her kill. They would freeze in the icy cold but she would be able to return and use them for future meals with a last look at the carcass, it was a shame she had to leave any of it but better to allow the scavengers something than let them find her hidden stash of food. Now with a full belly for the first time in so long she could not remember the last time she had felt so replete she trotted off to find her cave for some much-needed sleep to regain her strength and the energy she had lost stalking her food source. When she woke up something called her back to the site of the kill, and she stood in the shelter of the trees looking at the remains and wondering what had brought her back. A low moan barely discernible in the freezing howling wind caught her attention, she pricked up her ears and turned her head searching for its source another moan had her pinpointing the exact location and she moved like a deadly shadow toward it. The young male Homo Erectus stood next to the remains of its father, it had no idea what to do, it was freezing and starving and now it was alone. It was ready to give up, berating its father for bringing them to this desolate land far away from the comfort of their own Pack. Looking around at the blood-stained snow he fell to his knees and whimpered, it had not been his father's fault. The great explosion all those months ago had destroyed their Packlands and left them with no choice but to move away from the only territory they had ever known. There had been nothing left for them there but certain death like the rest of their Pack if they had stayed, everywhere had been burnt, trees, grass, even the water had turned to steam. The young Homo-Erectus curled into the bloodied snow seeing no use even trying any more he might as well join his father there was nothing left for him in this cruel inhospitable place. The beautiful she-wolf watched the strange creature and sensed its despair and when it curled up in the snow she knew it would die if she did not act.
‘Why would she act to save this strange creature?’
She thought her amber eyes showing her confusion, something inside her compelled her to save this strange thing, some primal instinct that had been awakened inside her by the destruction of all she had known when the ball of fire destroyed their world. She crept forward slowly, keeping her body low to the floor all her instincts on full alert as she approached it but it did not move or even acknowledge her presence. Her ears pricked up as she noticed the strange creature was breathing but only just and knew she had to do something quickly or it would die. Standing over it she gripped the creature by its neck, holding it as she would a Pup with firm gentleness. She was a huge powerful Wolf and it was easy for her to lift the creature and carry it to her cave where she laid it tenderly on the ground and curled her body around it. Her thick white pelt had many layers to protect her from the Arctic cold and it soon warmed the Homo-Erectus enough for him to snuggle deeper into her fur. A few hours later when he woke he sat up in shock staring at the stunningly beautiful snow wolf keeping him warm, and she was keeping him warm, there was no doubt about that. Cautiously, acting purely on instinct, he reached out his hand to stroke her thick warm pelt and it was bliss silky soft and as white as the freshly falling snow. It touched something deep inside him and when she lifted her head their eyes locked and both of them felt the electric shock as a connection between them was made. ‘He was not afraid of her.’
The thought drifted through his mind and it surprised him,
‘This beautiful She-Wolf had killed his father and he should hate her, even try to kill her but he knew she had not had a choice, in this bleak wilderness it was kill or be killed and he understood that at the most primitive level.
Her eyes were a brilliant blue as she surveyed the strange creature whose life she had saved, it was looking at her without fear and not many creatures would dare to do that. She was a huge wolf, much bigger than those that evolved later, and she was the apex predator, it was why she had survived when the rest of her Pack had fallen.
Stretching she stood in the entry of the cave and shook out her long thick fur when the strange creature moved to follow her she bared her teeth at him making him step back. After a few attempts it seemed to understand her message for it to stay put in her den, it was warmer and drier inside and she sensed this creature was not very strong and it needed her protection.
He watched her leave understanding her unspoken command that he stay put, the cave was reasonably warm and dry, in one corner he found a place where she had stored the fur she shed each spring. It was a little dirty from being shoved into the corner but it more than made up for that inconvenience by being thick and silky soft. With quick agile fingers, the Homos Erectus pulled and twisted the fur shaping it into a rough covering that it could use to cover itself with. It was warm and comforting and he curled back up to sleep until she returned. She had brought him food and even though he knew what the pieces of frozen meat were he had no choice but to eat what was offered to him, his stomach heaved as he chewed and it took a huge amount of effort not to vomit it back up. He did not have a choice, there was no other food to sustain them, it was eat or die and he had a very strong survival instinct just as she had. When they grew tired of eating she nudged him outside to a small rec
She smiled up at him and he chuckled,‘They will not have it all their own way my love, you know what the plans are for this pretty blue planet it will be an interesting experiment watching how they all develop.’The male creature had one more act he needed to perform, and as the She-Wolf's belly grew big with the approaching birth it made it difficult for her to hunt and she knew it was essential that both her and her Pups survived. Two days before she gave birth she did what she had to do and killed him as his meat would feed her and her Pups until the Spring thaw she had given birth to six Pups, three male and three female but only four of them mattered, they were the new Species and when the time was right they took the lives of their siblings and their mother as they needed the food to help them survive. The world settled around them with the great continents detaching themselves from each other to form the land masses of today and the Homo-
Just as they knew of the other creatures that the humans had long forgotten, the powerful Dragons that remained behind their protective shield, the stunning winged unicorns descendants of the mighty Pegasus, the Elves, Faeries, Witches and Warlocks who lived by the ancient codes of magic. All had once shared their lives with the Homo-Sapien race and believed they lived peacefully and helped their neighbours when needed. It was the humans who developed their strong beliefs in a higher Deity rejecting the world of magic and myth and turning against them viewing them as their greatest enemy. They had simply stopped believing as they evolved and developed finding they no longer needed magic when science overtook the old ways and truth became greater than fiction. Humans could fly like birds, only higher and further, they had flown into Space, and they could swim like the fish only deeper and faster as they plundered the bounty of the seas. On land they bred at such a rapid rate they soo
She laughed heartily as he grabbed her and gave her a hug,‘I don’t tell you often enough how much I appreciate all you do for me.’He kissed the top of her head and let her go so he could pick up his sandwich and take a huge bite chewing contentedly,‘It’s nice to be useful.’She grinned and bustled off to his room to make sure the maids had finished his bed and put his clothes away properly and when she closed the door he mind-linked his Beta,‘Karl, bring the Warriors to my office in half an hour’He commanded,‘Yes Alpha, we’re on our way’Alexis stood looking out of his office window at the snow capped mountain finishing his sandwich he felt restless and had a deep foreboding something was coming and it wasn’t going to be good.Aurora sat in her room brushing her long, rich copper coloured hair, it was stunning, a myriad of colours from pale gold to rich crimson a legacy from her Mother she had been told many times growing up. Not that she would know, her Mother had died two week
‘There is nothing I can do for you my Princess, your future is set but your daughter has the blood of both sides running through her veins. On her eighteenth birthday she will inherit the powers of her Ancestors and the magic that runs in your blood that you have had to repress. She will stop the Hunters, including the man you love so much, and your people will be forever free.’Aurora was born at midnight on All Hallows Eve, the wind was howling and hailstones battered the castle as the wildest storm anyone had ever seen raged. She came into the world waving her tiny fists and shouting right back at the storm and as her Mother held her in her arms for the first time the storm broke. Holding her tightly the Princess took her to the window as a huge incredible moon appeared, it was blood red and all around it the clouds seemed to be on fire as the colour seeped into them.‘The Blood Moon, little daughter.’The Princess understood the Goddesses sign,‘It is for you Aurora and I am truly
Martha carried on,‘This is how they work, this ‘feeling’ is just the beginning. Slowly Pack members will become Paranoid and start reacting to each other. It weakens the Pack so that when the Hunters attack it makes their job so much easier. Without the strength of Pack unity, we become easy targets fighting solo instead of together.’She stopped and looked at Alexis her face reflecting her sadness,‘I’m so sorry.’He moved across the room and hugged her tightly,‘Don’t apologise Martha, none of this is youor fault now please can you tell us what else you know?’It wasn’t much more but it was enough, Alexis turned to Karl,‘Go and find Morgana and bring her here.’He asked his Beta who nodded and left immediately.Morgana was the most powerful witch in the whole of the Vottovaara Mountain Region he had found her many years ago, seriously injured and dropped into a ravine just inside their boundary and left to perish. He had been a young wolf, only just coming into his adulthood, out
A bolt of energy slammed through Aurora and she cried out closing her eyes as the room grew brilliant white and the fizzing in her body intensified spreading rapidly through her.The beautiful teenager began to shake and then she was lifted off the ground by a hidden force it spun her violently making her hair fly out around her until everything imploded and she dropped onto her bed like a lead weight her powers had finally been released,‘You are so like her, Aurora, and now you must confront him, show him that you are her daughter, not his. She walks beside you, my dear child. It is time to embrace her. You must take her hand and become the woman she knows you are meant to be.’The Witch touched the Princess's forehead and everything went black and when she opened her eyes again the Witch had gone, all that remained were a few rags on the floor. She turned and looked up at the sky gasping at the beauty of a huge blood-red moon just reaching its zenith in the night sky with the cloud
Joachim did not live long enough to see the Mother of Alexis find her Fated Mate and leave his Pack because she left silently in the early hours when her mate called for her. She knew that to ask his permission would have meant certain death for her, he did not want her in his Pack but he would never have agreed to free her. When her mate had her safely far away from them within his borders the Goddess had intervened sending Constantine and his Hunters to them and the whole Pack had been wiped out. Unfortunately, when Meredith’s Mother heard what had happened it broke her gentle heart, even though he had rejected her and thrown her and their daughter out of his Pack she had never stopped loving her Mate. It destroyed her completely when she discovered her beloved daughter's Mate was the Hunter Prince, the man who had murdered her whole Pack, he was the man who made it his life’s objective to destroy as many of their kind as he could, it was all too much for her. The day before their m
