Chapter 45

I lay there, my body still trembling from the aftershocks of our heated encounter. Shraf's arm was wrapped around me possessively, his breath warm against my neck. For a moment, I let myself get lost in the sensation, in the comfort of his embrace. But the questions in my mind refused to be silenced.

“Shraf,” I whispered, trying to keep my voice steady.

He hummed in response, his hold on me tightening. I could feel his reluctance to face what I was about to bring up.

I turned in his arms so I could see his face. The dim light from the bedside lamp cast shadows across his chiseled features, making him look almost vulnerable. “Why did you ask for a divorce?”

He sighed deeply, his eyes darkening with something I couldn't quite place. “Eva, we've been over this.”

“No,” I said firmly, sitting up and pulling the sheets around me. “We haven't. You asked for a divorce out of nowhere. You didn’t even give me a reason. And now you act like...like this.” I gestured between us, frustration boilin
