C28 - The one that got away.

"I'm sorry, Ethan. I overslept," Felicity apologized as she arrived.

He stood up, pulled a chair for her, and gently planted a kiss on her cheek.

"It's fine, Siti," he replied, returning to his seat.

"So, why did you move our date to breakfast? You know I'm not a morning person. But don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining," she said with a smile. Maybe she was just really curious.

He gave a slow smile, contemplating how to tell her that he wanted to end things with her.

"I know that smile, Ethan," Felicity said, her smile fading. For a moment, Ethan thought she looked insecure. "I hope I'm wrong. But I'm starting to feel uneasy about this breakfast. You have something to tell me, don’t you?"

"How about we eat first?" he said gently. He didn’t want to break up with her before they had even had a meal.

Felicity nodded, but she looked sad. The confident smile she had when she arrived was gone.

They ate in silence. Although he occasionally asked her about her work, her answers were short.
