Ch. 49: Escape

Before we could reach the top, I stopped Murphy. “Wait, my purse, I need it. I didn’t bring it with me.”

“What? I thought you had it? I’ll get it; just wait here,” he said, but I didn’t let him. Even though I was dizzy, I did my best to get back to our table from earlier. When I arrived, all the remaining men immediately focused on me. I ignored them and sat back down. Damn. If I went back with Murphy and Jasper upstairs, it might be the end for me. I’ll just have to endure the heat I’m feeling.

I felt Murphy behind me. “I thought you were going to the restroom? ”He leaned in and whispered in my ear.

“No, it’s not necessary. I suddenly changed my mind; let’s stay here for now,” I murmured.

He only responded with, “Okay,” and sat down to my right once more, with Jasper returning to my left. I felt stiff; I was uncomfortable between them. I needed to do something to ease my anxiety. I took my phone from my purse and planned to send a message to Maddox.
